    More Confused Than Before

I had my surgery in early July. I have been off my diabetes meds since the surgery, and my blood sugar has consistently been pretty normal - around 80-90 before meals and generally under 150 a couple of hours post-meal (for example, tonight's post-dinner reading was 131). I'm due for my regular testing, so we'll see what the results look like for that! At this point, I even have the occasional small serving of whole-wheat Pasta, steel cut oatmeal, brown rice or whole-grain bread with no ill effects. I've also had small bites of my husband's dessert, or a small piece of chocolate once a week or so, as long as I've also had enough Protein and gotten a reasonable amount of produce in.
  2. Ok guys, I've heard about 3 weeks stall but this is ridiculous...I had my surgery on january 18th, weighing 194. Around february first I was down to 178. So I've only lost 16 pounds since Jan 18th!!! This is so discouraging. I know part of the problem is I'm not getting enough protein. So this past week, I started whey protein shakes, 1 shake equals 38 grams of protein. I try to get the remainder of protein from food. Also I have not been able to drink 64oz everyday. Should I try the 5 day pouch test? I'm getting worried that I may have failed the sleeve

stuck at 178 for 5 weeks

Hey, just this morning I said to my husband, "Look, I've lost 10 pounds since February!" That's not a bad weight loss -- 10 lbs a month is fantastic -- in fact, I've pretty much lost 10 pounds a month since my 2nd or 3rd month -- the first month you're going to the lose the fastest -- but there after should be a regular, steady weight loss -- some months more, some months less -- but more or less the same. 16 lbs in one month is awesome!! Don't worry, you're still gonna lose! And a 5 week stall is not unheard of -- make sure you're eating your protein, getting in enough calories and drinking your water!

    Kinda Screwed up... :(

I did it. I mess up. It happens to us all, I know I shouldn't beat myself up. I tried to eat something crummy for dinner. It was a quesadilla with cheese and chicken. I don't know what I was thinking, I just gave in. I ate 3 bites and felt super sick my stomach hurt so bad, so I stopped and threw it away. So I guess that's a good thing at least, I couldn't eat it. I'm just mad that I gave in. Things have been going so well! This week was the first time I've actually seen results. I'm always so hard on myself, but I can't ignore that I'm wearing clothes that haven't fit the past year. I should be thrilled! I've just had someone at work who claims to be supportive, but ends up saying comments that come across a little hurtful. And it's been eating at me for a few weeks. I can't believe I let someone make me feel so bad. I never thought I'd feel like this again. :'(

Wondering if I need an slight unfill

So today is day 3 of my unfill and my stomach is still really bloated!!! Below my breast area. I am awaiting an endoscopy to be scheduled next week my doc is concerned it may have slipped. But he did a brief sonogram and left the room. Just tole me to drink 2 bottles of water wait 30 mins and make sure the water didnt regurgitate back up. But now I sit here and Im so uncomfortable. Is this common with an Unfill?

    Out of Work?

I originally expected to be out a week, but decided to do 2 weeks. I went back to work on a Wednesday and decided i didn't want to push myself.
  11. The appointment went well. I know she answered my questions, but I'm a little stunned and can't remember. Stunned because when I sat with the admin folks to set an appointment for surgery, they asked if I wanted to so it April 15! I said yes. So, while I wanted to do this ASAP and get it over with, I'm stunned that its next week. I've been on their modified pre op diet for a couple of weeks. They said to continue that, so I'm good there. Just shocked that it came up so quickly. But pleased too.

2nd Day of Pre Op diet

Today is my 2nd day of Pre Op. I am hungry, but feel good. I had energy even if I am only having about 800 calories or so a day! I am having my protein shake for breakfast, Lean Cuisine for Lunch/Dinner. They are such small portions. It makes me realize that my portions were enormous! I could normally eat 4-5 of those little Lean Cuisine plates. I weighed in today at 182. The scale at my mom's last week said 185. I was also premenstrual. I am waiting for Dr. Ortiz's book to come. I can't wait to read it. Hopefully, I will be in Mexico this coming Sunday!!!

    My NSV Very Exciting

I went to meet some friends at a local club. I got there after they did and was standing at the bar getting my drink. Kinda looking around for them. I look up and see them and wave get my drink and go over. They were kinda laughing when I got there and I asked them what was so funny. My friend said well we looked at you and said is that Kristie her boyfriend said where, she said at the bar. He said where I don't see her. She said right there in the brown shirt. He said I don't think so. Thats when I turned around and waved at them. And they were like omg it is Kristie. They didn't even recognize me!!!!!!!!!! I've only lost 50 pounds but boy did that make my night and the next week!!!!! IT was WONDERFUL. I know I said only 50 pounds let me rephrase I've LOST 50 POUNDS in THREE MONTHS!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO
  14. I'm wondering if anyone would share their experience regarding the follow-up appointment they had one month after surgery. I am getting anxious because I lost a significant amount of weight in the week leading up to the surgery and the two weeks after as I was taking in mostly liquids and very few calories those weeks. I have definitely kept portions much smaller for the most part, but I still find myself hungry (I call it "real meal" hungry) at least once a day. For example, I can eat an egg or a protein shake for breakfast and a can of tuna for lunch, but by dinner I'm having a harder time controlling portions. With this pattern I've put on most of the initial weight I lost while I was on liquids. I'm only down a net of 2 pounds. My doctor doesn't put anything in the band until 2 months out from surgery. I know weightloss is supposed to be slow and steady, but I'm kinda worried that they will be condescending about such a small number. I'm also concerned about having another month where I'm not supposed to eat more than 1/2 a cup of food 3 times a day with no snacking when the band hasn't been restricted at all yet. At any rate, I'd love to hear from anyone willing to share their experience.
  15. If you can avoid last meal syndrome, I definitely recommend doing that. You'll already have some healthy habits down and may have less to lose after surgery. That being said, I personally did not follow that same advice. I had about a three week period in which I enjoyed many last meals. I'm eight months out from RNY now and down more than 90 pounds. The tool helped me focus and cultivate and maintain good habits in a way I wasn't before. The most important thing is that you put your game face on after surgery, fully dedicate yourself and (perhaps literally) work your butt off.

    Older sleeve patient advise.

Hey ! I am 2 weeks post op, I kno this may sound horrible but when I see people saying they gain weight, does this mean your sleeve isn't restricting you or what? Or you eating pizza burgers and fries? I say all that because it would be nice to know things will change...meaning I am 2 weeks post op and have had 3 baby spoons of yogurt....rest Water,tea,milk....so having a pretty bad dc regrets right now, would love to know hey I can get back to normal eventually and make better food decisions. Right now there are no food decisions...
  17. So , I am going to start the process this week. I have only one concern that I was hoping I could get some feedback and insite to. My concern is that I dont want to dread meals. I still want to be able to sit down with my family and enjoy dinner. I have heard some negative reactions to this . What can ya'll tell me?
  18. He hubby is two weeks and two days from surgery. He has lost 40.9 lbs since may 31. That is including the pre op weight loss. He is feeling amazing. Mowed the lawn yesterday. Has no more back pain! I am so damn proud of him!!

    From a June 2012 sleever

Is it physical hunger, as in stomach growling? If yes, maybe it's acid. Do you have an acid reducer? If no, Pepcid makes a chewable that you can use. I had this problem my first 6 weeks after surgery -- especially at night. Turns out it was acid. Now when I think I'm hungry, it's actually that I am thirsty. A drink sometimes helps. I am 12 weeks out, and I don't get those hunger pangs anymore. I get tired or weak and then I think, "oh, I must need to eat." That's a small miracle for me. The other thing is head hunger. I have that when I am working (not thrilled with my job right now). For that, you might want to consider a therapist. I am about to start seeing someone if the head hunger doesn't stop bugging me.
  20. I have had this lingering cold for the last two weeks! Wondering if it will stop my surgery from happening tomorrow ? I'm scheduled for 12/18 band removal to gastric bypass .....

    Time till approval?

Wholy Cow....3 days?!? They submitted me last week and we still are pending "Approval"! (Cause I know it is going to be approved..I am faithful) I too have slight apprehension about the alternative...but my faith is keeping me positive....and I am preparing as if I am already approved! Faith goes a long ways in my world!

    Time till approval?

It took 3 days for them to deny me (BCBS), but also 3 days to approve my appeal submitted a month later.. the letter of approval takes the longest (about 2 weeks).. I would keep calling. Once approved asked for the approval code and let your Dr.'s office know.. sometimes they will proceed with scheduling with that approval code before they get the official letter. Faith is powerful for sure Hope you hear your good news soon!!
  23. Make sure you are speaking with your doctor about your food intake and the pressure you feel when you eat. I was at a point where my band was like half a CC too full and my stomach eventually swelled shut and i had to have it completely emptied and had to be on liquid diet AGAIN for 2 weeks. It was right around my 18th birthday so it was a bummer. Otherwise, just try to make sure you chew chew chew. You will get sick more often from eating too much rather than having some food you can't pass. It feels like eating a really dry sandwhich and having it stuck in your throat but it never passes so you have to spit it back up. It's really not that bad as long as you are paying attention to what you are eating and how much. It will take you a little while to get used to how much food you can fit in your pouch. It will take a few days after each fill for you to be sure how much you can have each time. But it really isn't as complicated as it sounds. Sometimes I forget I even have the band. Hope that helped. :]
  24. Hi I am 1 and 1/2 years out from surgery and mostly get compliments and good stuff my way. Last week a good friend said, "geesh, you look so thin!" He doesn't want me to lose more weight -- that actually made me feel good, and I took it as motivation actually. Even if people say I don't need to lose weight, I told them I need to get to goal, which was a healthy BMI and that usually ended the conversation. On the other hand, almost all of us know of people who had WLS and regained weight. Take it as a challenge for yourself NOT to do that. It scares me to no end to gain back weight. That can be a GOOD thing actually. I say to myself, "ok you've been given this new body, NOW what are you going to do with it? We've been given a gift, and I look at it that way and not many people are given a second chance at a body. So take it as a scary challenge for something you vow not to do. It's not always a bad thing to hear of those who regain weight. Apparently it is a possibility (not sure of stats with the sleeve though). Ok, so let's do all we can to put practices into place for us to succeed and not fail! I admit there are days I eat badly and I yell at myself. I made a deal with a coworker that I would let her know everytime I was one ounce above goal weight, and so far I have had to confess one time only. This is a good thing knowing I need to fess up. Good luck with your continued weight loss and getting to that healthy BMI!
