  1. Anyone have band revision with Dr Ariel Ortiz?
  2. Anyone had a band revision with Dr Ariel Ortiz???
  3. I had the same issues after about 6 years with my VBG, but that was done 20 years ago. I feel great with the revision to RNY, but something did need to be done years ago, but I never found a Dr that could help till last year. I feel the medical knowledge is much better today, and hope you can find a Dr. that can really get to the bottom of it soon.

Band to RNY 12/6....scale hasn't moved

I had so many problems with my band before the revision. My doctor told me I'm probably taking in more nutrients now than I did at the end with the band, that's why my weight loss will be slower. When I see him again I will ask him how big my pouch is and if it is bigger than other bypass patients.

Band to RNY 12/6....scale hasn't moved

That's really interesting, I definitely feel like my stomach can hold more than many people describe in the bypass forum. I've only lost 14lbs since my surgery on 3rd December. Saw my surgeon last week who said we have to be realistic and weightloss will be slower for revision surgery but that I should focus on exercise. Kind of wondering if it was worth all this money but gotta stay positive, what's done is done! I am making healthier choices, it's just not quite as dramatic a change as I imagined. Three fills and no restriction

I had the band done in 2009- I lost 40pds but gained back 10-15 up and down- it was awful the band was never right either too tight or too loose- I just had a band to sleeve revision done- the band is such a failure I didn't think a lot of doctors still would suggest it Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Big Fat Failure!

Sooooo i just looked at my blog and see it's been like 5 years since I posted!!!!! WOOOOOOWWWW!!! So if i wrote everything that has happened in those 5 years this would be like 8 pages long, so i will make it short as possible. I met my goal size of a 12 within 11 months of having my band. I was good at maintaining for like 2.5 years. And then my band and i started fighting more and more. Between life, band slippages, emergency unfills, relationship changes and the death of my mother i have basically gained all my weight back. I am back to a size 16 and my original size preband was a 20. I have changed jobs and now am in the process of getting my band removed and revised to a vertical sleeve. I have had many emotions about this from embarrassment, shame, anger, etc. I was self pay for the lap band, but my current insurance does pay for the surgery. I was submitted for the removal of my lap band and revision to a sleeve and was DENIED!! To say I was devastated is putting it mildly. I am in the process of having my doctor submit further explanation of why it is medically necessary to remove my band. This time will be different. I will be going to support groups and doing thing before that i hated like actually tracking food and gym times. I'm pretty sure no one even follows this blog anymore, but i am keeping my youtube blog up to date! Thanks for stopping by!

Band to RNY 12/6....scale hasn't moved

I assume you are probably at purees or just starting solids. I did not feel restriction/full till I was eating solids...meats like chicken provide the most feeling of fullness. I was told to measure everything so didn't really go beyond a 1/2 cup portion. If you are looking for restriction make sure you avoid sliders like sauces etc with your meat. I assume you had similar instructions to eat meat first then vegetables and carbs if there is room. One thing to keep in mind is as a revision patient we can end up with a bigger pouch than normal because the Banff stretches your esophagus. So an ordinary bypass patient has i hunk a 30 cc stomach. Mine is 55 cc.

Band to RNY 12/6....scale hasn't moved

I had my revision on 12/9 (three days apart!). scale has not moved much (1 pound) since I got home. Tracking everything diligently. I had to go back in 2 days after surgery as I had a blockage/twist in my intestines (not stomach) and had to have an additional surgery. I have found that I am progressing through the post diet almost too easily, keep my Protein up, my calories at about 800, and have not felt sick or over-stuffed at all,so that worried me... why am I not having the issues others have had? But I will consider that a blessing. But, I am not losing weight. I think this requires a lot of patience ( my weakest attribute) and logic. There is no way I will not lose weight (you, too) when I am taking in less calories, exercising, and eating more nutritiously. Here's the thing. With the band, I got used to disappointment and problems for over 10 years. So, I am afraid the by-pass would be disappointing, too. But it won't... my attitude and determination are different than what they were. I read somewhere that I need to think of my pouch as "my little friend", and we need to take care of each other. That set well with me, so I insanely talk to my little pouch and might even name her ! Patience! Keep in touch since we are close to the same timeframes and surgeries! Gail

    Any hope for an abuser?

I had a similar problem with losing insurance post op and rarely getting into the green zone. My surgeon was TERRIBLE and now that I have been seeing a really good team (Im revising to the sleeve) I can see even more how little information and preparation I got from my previous surgeon. (Dr Milton Owens Chapman Medical center Orange, CA.....avoid like the plague) I understand your sentiment about feeling uninformed. I asked questions, but I didn't know enough to ask ALL things band related to equal the benefits from seminars and classes and interaction with a solid knowledgeable team. I got a generic print out and info where to buy shakes. That was about it. I assumed it was normal because I never even knew anyone else who had bariatric surgery. So wrong! Anyways I was banded in 2009 and paying out of pocket for fills.....one time I was so tight I couldn't swallow saliva.....and it was very difficult to keep up with them since they are so temperamental and office visits cost so much. So for years I had a dormant band and could usually eat anything (occasionally I still got stuck, but no regular restriction) I recently found out my band has slipped because I had an endoscopy for my upcoming sleeve surgery. If I had attempted to get a fill it would just be a waste of time and money because my pouch was stretched and my band was out of place. I recommend you talk to your bariatric doctor (whomever is going to be filling you) and ask about a barium swallow test to check out the placement of the band before you start getting fills again. Also, make sure you have the insurance or financial means to stay current or maintain your fills or the band wont work for long anyways. liquid diets will help you lose weight with or without surgery, but to use your band you need to know whats going on in there. Best of luck to you! Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App
  11. You can get a revision! No need for a total reversal unless tests prove otherwise. RNY can KILL. My sister went with a RNY because insurance paid for it but she ended up with two bowel resections and multiple stays in the hospital. Join MGB Group on Facebook. Both Dr. Rutledge and Dr. Peraglie watch the page and can jump in when needed. We have members from all over the world who have had or are hoping to have the procedure and many have years of experience.
  12. I had lap and surgery in 2011 and revised to bypass in March 2016, so I am a veteran to this. #1 I would say that it may depend on the type of surgery you had. With lapband there were no foods that I was restricted from after two years and could drink as much Water as I wanted. At the beginning eggs and chicken breast were foods that I had problems with, but not by year two. Having had the bypass and still being under a year from that surgery, I do find a difference. The amount of food that I can eat is much less, as well as some textures. Hard foods and raw vegetables I avoid because I have a lot of scar tissue that causes it to be a problem. I have a hard time getting in my water now, too. Probably if I cut back on my coffee consumption I could get more water in (mostly decaf). Anyway, what you may consider "normal" is going to be your "new normal". Sent from my Z981 using the BariatricPal App

    Clear liquid diet

Get Better than Bullion. It tastes so much better than premade broths and they have a ton of flavors. It was the only thing that got me through liquids! Katy W- Louisburg, NC Lapband revision to VSG with DS HW- 297 Weight at Surgery-279 CW- will update at two week appt
  15. I am sure you've had your operation by now, but after some 9 years of research i narrowed it down to MGB. The second place choice was DS, but its a very complex operation and your pooo and farts will clear the room. Also with DS you MUST take your vites or you will die. MGB is simple op and can be reversed and revised becz you keep your stomach. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
  16. Join facebook and friend dr r rutledge. He invented the MGB and will have great advice. I would get a 2nd opinion on your surgeons recommendation.. you could always revise the MGB to be changed. You will lose your stomach and lose the possibility of changing back. 18. Has anybody had a revision from sleeve to RnY? Why did you have it done? How far postop are you? Any complications? How much did you loose with the sleeve? How much have you lost since the revision? How do you feel now? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. So, I'm officially a month and a few days post op from revision- vsg to rny to be exact. I wanted to know what you guys are eating at this point. I'd like to try a new few ideas. liquids are going down pretty easily as well as soft foods, but I'm having trouble eating solids. Anything I eat goes right back up Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. I have ben banded for almost 9 years now with minimal success. I've flat out abused the band ever since the honeymoon was over. I'm really trying to get back and do things right. I ran into a video on how things are supposed to work. Not bad mouthing my surgeon, but I think this is info a patient needs to know. They may be doing a better job these days of explaining things IDK. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qa3Lwt6ElIs My question is fairly simple yet has 2 parts. 1- Has anyone ever recovered from a stretched out pouch? 2- Is there a way to shrink it back and restore the nerves at the top of the stomach? I lost my job shortly after my last doc visit in 2015. That said, I've not had decent insurance until now. I am working full time now and have pretty decent insurance. I have plans to get to the LB doctor. A revision is not in the cards right now due to just starting this job and not being able to take time off. I appreciate any and all advise!
  21. I have MGB but don't have the issues you're experiencing now (however, I'm only 8 months out so...). Your surgeon seems to be very quick about recommending revision into RNY. An "it might be IBS" doesn't sound like a valid reason for performing revision. If possible see the doctor in person and I'd get a second opinion before revision, especially if you really don't want one. There should be proper diagnostic done before deciding what treatment might be the best.

    Question

Usually worse.I had to have revision to bypass after 5 years with the sleeve.
  23. So I had MGB 8months ago. I have been getting bouts of diarrhea and after insisting to speak to the doctor over the phone (since my appointment is not until end of feb), doctor thinks it might be IBS. I'm down to 114lbs and most probably this weight loss will continue so now doctor is recommending revision to RNY!!!! This is crazy.. has anyone been through this before?? If I will have to go under the knife again I would prefer to get a total reversal but doctor thinks a reversal is not an option!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
