    May 2011 Bandsters Report In

Hello out there! I have gained so much from my 42 pounds gone. I love my band. I've had 3 fills and have 8 cc in my 11cc realize band. I posted a list of NSV's in my hospitals fourm and wanted to share it with all of you, so here goes: I have lost two pants sizes and 1 shirt size. My skinny jeans are becoming my fat jeans. My double chin is now a chin and a neck.I can cross my legs.I can reach my shoes to tie them. I don't mind looking in the mirror, as much.People notice. My rings are too big.My lanyard hangs all the way to my belly button. My ankle has less and less pain everyday. My PCOS has resolved. The seatbelt in my car doesn't cut my neck.I have become an inspiration to others! Its amazing what you gain when you lose! Thanks for reading, I'd love to hear some of your lists!

    July 2011 Bandsters!

Hi Everyone! I'm still lingering in the 171 pound region, haven't broken through that plateau. Good news is that I have had major NSVs instead, and it helps me know I'm doing something right. I'm wearing my size 10 abercrombie and fitch jeans and my medium uniform pants. Everyone noticed my uniform pants! I was worried they were too tight but my girlfriend at work said they fit great. I really wish I could break 171. Been stuck here for a while. Guess it is time to step up my exercise game. Hoping for you all to be healing, losing & winning! Kate

    7 week update

I had my "6 week" checkup today - just one day shy of 7 weeks post-op. I've had several NSV's during this time - especially in the last few days. I asked the dietician to take my measurements again today. They were originally done when I first saw the surgeon on May 18 - about 2 months before my surgery. All measurements are in inches. Body measurement May 18 August 29 Upper Arm 16 13 Forearm 11 9 Chest 46 43 Waist 52.5 44 Hips 61 57 Upper Thigh 33 28 Mid Thigh 29 22 Calf 19.5 19.5 The only measurement that did not change is my calf. I can't believe how much my waist and thighs have changed though! I have gone from a size 28W pants to 24W. My tops have gone from 3/4x to 1x. I am able to walk greater distances without loosing my breath (about 1/2 mile actually), stand for longer periods of time (about 1/2 hour) and take about 30 stair steps without loosing my breath. I couldn't do any of that before surgery. My back is feeling better, as well as my knees. The actual weight loss isn't as much as I was hoping for, but it's still not bad. I'm currently in my 2nd stall. I was cleared today for solids and to start with the personal trainer at the healthplex (2 personal trainer meetings and 6 month membership at the healthplex was included with my fee for the surgery). I'm currently waiting for the healthplex to call me to set up the meeting and start the membership. The dietician today said that in another month and half I should start feeling normal again - like I never had surgery. I told her that I already feel that way - with the exception of some occasional itching in my stomach area from the healing incisions. She was a bit surprised by that. The surgeon looked at the one incision that bled a bit the other day and confirmed that it still looks good and is not infected. In fact, he said they all looked good.
  5. Can't believe it has been 6 months since I was sleeved I am now down a total of 86 lbs since I began the 2 week liquid diet so 74 lbs since the day of surgery. I am down for a grand total of 81 3/4 inches! Talk about a LOT of inches lost off this body! I am now 4.8 lbs from goal but really I am fine with my weight. Though according to the BMI scale I am still overweight, I so happen to think that scale is stupid ha! I am not pushing to lose that last bit but not preventing it either, my weight is still coming off pretty nicely. Last week alone I had a huge drop and lost 4.2 lbs, this week I lost 1 lb. So my sleeve is absolutely still working. I have had so many NSVs lately from people guessing my weight to be 115-125 lbs, which is beyond me since I am at 154 lol, I was always good at hiding my weight though at the lower weights so I guess that is a plus I had someone FINALLY tell me my ID card looked nothing like me YAY! She remembered me fat and kept looking at me like something was wrong, finally she said I must have lost a ton of weight and even called over one of the other receptionists to come look at me lol. I finally hit my size goal too, well at least at Old Navy, I have yet to try elsewhere but I can comfortably wear a size 8 now and generally medium shirts, occasionally a small or large, depending on the brand. Dresses are medium to large now too. I am still dealing with some complications, I still have pain at the top of my sleeve, especially in the morning. Still taking 2 nexiums and 1 zantac a day to try to control the pain from the heartburn I now have. Lately I have been seriously restricted, I am sure it is from stress, it's a struggle to drink Water, let alone food and I am full within 2-3 bites of anything right now but this shall pass hopefully soon. I will be seeing a surgeon today so not sure if he will want to scope me again or just let it go and see if it goes away. I suspect my labs are off too, specifically my Iron given how I am feeling. I will be seeing a plastic surgeon too, I was told I needed a panniculectomy (sp?) long before I considered weight loss surgery and it is absolutely needed still, my poor stomach is destroyed and I still carry a large amount of fat there. I am also looking into a breast augmentation too, they are long gone LOL! All in all I am still very pleased with my sleeve and glad I went through with it Don't mind the crummy pics, I had to use my webcam.

NSV, well I think it is

Definitely a NSV! I'm reaching the point where I miss exercise if I can't do it when planned!
  7. I've been working out for many years, while trying to lose weight. But for a long time I've always felt, blah I guess I'll go to the gym. I mean I enjoyed listening to music and stuff while on the elliptical and stuff, but didn't love it. I've now gotten to the point, that I enjoy working out and find that if I don't work out I feel crappy and tired all day. I just feel lazy. On Friday, I took the day off, I usually take off Tuesday because I work in the morning and I get exhausted after work, though this past Tuesday I went to the gym, since I recently joined one that is open later. And on Friday since I didn't go, I slept in, and felt so lazy, and at work I just felt so tired and stuff. Today the gym and kickboxing were closed due to hurricane Irene so I couldn't go, and I've been feeling kind of lazy, and even took a short nap, so even though it was still drizzling and quite windy I went for an about hour long walk and just looked around to see if there was any damage and stuff. It made me much more awake. So for those of you who just feel obligated to work out, keep at it eventually you may do it just to feel better and you'll enjoy it!
  8. YAY!! Great NSV!!!)))) it is just stuff like these that keeps ensuring us how great we are doing!! WAY TO GO and congrats!!! thanks for sharing and drawing a smile on our faces:)
  9. I went out with some friends for Girls Night out on Friday. I knew I was going to have fun and get some much needed ME time. Well, the night started off great when I tried on a pair of size 16 jeans, buttoned, zipped, and they fit!!! In January I was wearing size 26. So while driving to town, I was thinking that it was a great night already and not thinking it could get any better. Well, while waiting on the rest of the girls to show up, a couple of us stood outside talking when one of the girls walked up and said "Susan, I didn't recognize you." It was a great feeling. Can't wait til the next GNO in October. I know some on here have had friends who have not been supportive, but I have been so blessed.
  10. That is a wonderful NSV! That is a landmark! To me it ranks right up there with not having to be weighed at the feed store, not having to use a seat belt extender, and not having the slats fall out from underneath the bed when you lay down on the mattress. BTW - I take two measurements - I measure my "belly" - which is what I call the largest part of my stomach / apron. I also measure my "hips" - which is where the widest part of my butt is - and it is (now) just below where the apron ends. I even lifted up the d**n apron to get this measurement early on. I take that measurement to let myself know what my hips would be if I get the apron removed. (I can dream, right?)

    Frustrated

i feel your pain. i was banded on may 20th of this year and am stuck between 17-20 pounds. AARRRGGGHH!!! my only conselation is that i've gone from wearing 20's to 16's moslty. so since my goal is a size not a weight that gives me some comfort. i dont understand how my clothing size is changed but the scale isnt. i've had 3 fills and i feel i have good restriction taking about 4-6 hours to be hungry, eating smaller portions and exercising twice a week with a trainer and twice on my own. have you taken your measurements or notice other NSV's?

    NSV- Tucked Shirt!!

Lynda... FUNNY, FUNNY, FUNNY... do it, do it, do it!! I can just see you shaking that tushie around the shops... and why bloody not! What a brillant NSV... and as far as the belt goes.. GET ONE... with SEXY written on it!! I've recently bought some belts, not quite in the next size down and they make my jeans and trousers look better... do it ladyeeee x

Almost too embarrassing to admit, but...

    Awesome NSV!! Congrats.
  14. Today, I was getting dressed for a day around town and as I pulled my size Medium tissue T by Mossimo for Target over my size 10, fit 4 Merona for Target jeans, I didn't like the way my shirt looked outside my jeans so I finally thought, how will it look tucked? I tucked it in and it looked -insert drumroll here- GREAT!!! It's the first time I've worn a tucked in shirt with pants without a jacket to hide the bulges since the mid 90s! Yahoo!!!!! And I still have 42 lbs to goal. What next - a belt? And I wore it all day with sandals and at the end of the day my feet were not screaming for mercy! With nearly 50 lbs. less of me than last summer, I can actually wear the cute sandals I have in my closet instead of my uber-support shoes. Do you think my family will notice if I just wear this outfit night and day for the next week or so while I cackle madly with glee while wagging my tushie around and swinging my sandal-clad feet? I love you sleeve- I don't care if I have to eat more Protein than I want, swallow handfuls of supplements twice a day, and force down a Protein Drink every night- you are worth every bit of it! What doe NSV stand for??

    That's a great NSV!

    What doe NSV stand for??

NSV = Non Scale Victory. When something positive happens that isn't related to the number on your scale. Clothes that suddenly fit great, comfortably wearing those pants you could never quite fasten, riding an amusement park ride and having the barrier bar close without crushing your stomach, easily fastening an airplane seatbelt, a compliment from a total stranger - it can be anything. And yes, yours is definitely an NSV! Congratulations! Dave
  17. Not sure what the the letter mean for NSV but I know it means something good. I had a follow up appointment with my Cardiologist the other day and he was so happy with my progress that he told me to follow up with him in 1 year!!! (I was going every 6 months for episodes of tachycardia with hrt rates in the 200's) Also according to his scale a month before the surgery my weight was 276. So technically I have lost a total of 40lbs since April !!! Yay me!!
  18. Just got back from taking 9...count 'em 9 black trash bags of clothes that will never fit me again to the Salvation Army!!! It felt SOOOOOOOO good!! I am sitting in a bit of a stall so this NSV really made me happy! Living the dream!, Laura

    My first NSVs

I love it that you shared those NSVs with everyone. It's always my fear that I will break a lawn chair. Hopefully my hubby and I will share a loveseat soon. Keep after it--you are doing great!
  22. Hello, I was sleeved on 8/8 and I have had two NSV yesterday that I wanted to share: 1. My sister was away during my surgery and when she came to see me she said I look like one of my high school pictures. I am starting to look younger…Yea!!!! 2. Yesterday, I went for a walk with my husband and after the walk we sat in the love chair on the front porch. A few weeks ago, we would not have been able to fit. I don’t have a tracker…so I will share my stats: I started out at 245, I was 225 the day of surgery and I am 209 now. Thanks for reading, Toyia
  23. It has been a very interesting day. My car stopped dead in the middle of an intersection in a rain storm on the way to work. Not one person stopped to check on me. Got the car towed to my office, spent a couple of hours getting another tow to the garage and renting a car. The new compliance officer at work gives a whole new meaning to nit picking paranoid micromanager and he isn't even my boss. I had to leave at 3 to get to the first visit with my new doctor, which is normally plenty of time, except I got caught in a slow moving river of minivans; it took me ahalf hour to go less than a mile. Didn't realize school started yesterday. I was late for my appointment; I hate being late. According to my late father, if you were on time you were fifteen minutes late and I took it to heart. Then the doctor finally came in and talked about everything under the sun and pressured me to start insulin which isn't going to happen and then at the last minute, in a kind of afterthought as she was typing up the visit notes, she says "I JUST SENT YOUR REFERRAL FOR THE BARIATRIC PROGRAM TO THE COORDINATOR." :bananapowerslide: WooHoo, I am on my way. I had been thinking all day (because it was so stressful) that I would get dinner at the Chick Fil A just down the block from the Dr. office, but I decided against it...a kind of NSV from me to me. This post is way too long, but I had to tell someone and for the moment LBT is my support system. Thanks for listening. Robbie

    MARCH 2011 BANDSTERS!

How private is this facebook group? There are certain people I really do NOT want to know about this surgery. I really need some support though. Surgery 03/31/2011 since surgery lost 25 pds and really frustrated. Besides what the heck does NSV stand for???
  25. Hello! To answer your questions, I am eating 1,200 calories a day. My form of exercise is a turbo kick boxing class at 24 hour fitness. Maybe I do need to spice up my work outs. I figured since the instructors are all different, each day the workouts are different and it's a fact. It really is. My clothing size has actually changed! I posted a NSV a week ago about going from a size 24 to an 18. So I do feel it in inches. I just hate how the scale doesn't go hand in hand with it. And thank you for all of your encouragement and kind words. I really needed this support. <3
