    Help! Mushies?

I did soups blended, mashed potatoes, light yogurt, cream of wheat, activia light, apple sause, sugar free pudding and jello, fat free cool whip, your taste and appetite will be different to though so just try one new thing at a time eat slowly and don't stress. For me if it isn't gonna work I know instantly it's such a weird feeling. I'm nearly 4 months post op and I can't do any seafood or chicken but I can eat steak. Everythings trial and error so be patient and take it one day at a time. Good luck
  2. My protein has been hamburger pattie on George Forman ( 1/2) eggs ham thick sliced with hidden valley flavored greek cream cheese rolled in it , greek yogurt and almonds
  3. Hi, I had my surgery 10 days ago, yesterday I had my followup and lost 23 pounds! Now I can start mushy diet, glad my dr. didnt have me do the pureed, lol, he just said go slow. Tonight for dinner I had 2 T mashed potatoes with some low fat cream of mushroom Soup and it tasted so good! I could only eat a few tablespoons all together but thats ok im not hungry at all. Ativa has a lowfat/sugar free vanilla yogurt that is also good. Dannon has a 2x Protein yogurt that will help me get my protein in. I've finally been able to get my Water and Vitamins in but the protein is hard for me.
  4. Hey everyone, I'm exactly 3 weeks post op today! I have been feeling GREAT! No pain since 5days post op other then some soreness. I went back to week last Monday so it was 13 days post op & I did great (office work) other then feeling like I had no energy 1/2 way thru the day! I have not had any nausea since I left the hospital. At my 1 week post op appt my dr have me my new menu which consists of scrambled egg, cheese, yogurt, vegetarian refried beans, mashed potatoes, tuna, & grilled fish. I have been doing great with all the above I've tried! When I go to my 1 month post op next week I get a new menu. I can't wait. I'm getting tired of the same 7 items lol. I lost 21 lbs the first 2 weeks post op & then gained 1.5 lbs & have stayed at that weight the last 6 days. My clothes are definately getting loose on me. I have dropped 1 size. I hope everyone else is doing good & good luck to u all. I will keep u updated!

    Dr. Spivak's patients .....

Nurseamy -- Now, I'm not banded yet, but I do have a long history with blood sugar issues and related hunger. If I was eating what you're eating, I'd be starving too!! To me it looks like too many carbs, and not enoughprotein and fat. This may sound really odd, but not to anyone who's ever been on a low-carb diet like Atkins. Adding a little fat will really help keep you satisfied longer. LIke Betsyjane said, make your soups hearty, make scrambled eggs with some butter, use full fat cottage cheese and yogurt and add some whey Protein powder, blend Peanut Butter into your shakes, etc. You can watch your calories on www.fitday.com. There will be plenty of time for restricting your calories further later on after you get filled when the band is doing a better job.

    Day 4 Post Op

I'm on 30grams of Protein shakes and 64fl oz everyday for 2 weeks. Haven't managed any of it yet! LOL! Have gotten about 24fl oz down so far, which includes about a 3rd of my shake, today. Doc actually specifically said NO gatorade/g2 stuff! I don't know why, didn't think to ask. Hmmmm. Anyway, that's it for me for 2 weeks, then I can start progressing w/yogurts, applesauce, etc. I have to read my paperwork again b/c I can't remember much of it.

    KETO

I will be doing a variation of keto in that I have no intention of eating any fruit since I don't care for most of it and I don't want to trigger any sugar cravings. I also have gluten sensitivity and don't eat any gluten containing products (wheat/barley/rye) or the gluten free crap they sell at the store. I do make my own almond bread which I do not plan to have until much later. I love almost all vegetables and I am the queen of cauliflower. I absolutely adore chicken or shrimp fried "rice" with cauliflower as well as other recipes. I plan for this to be my ongoing weight loss diet. I do not purchase any fat free stuff and use small amounts of regular unsalted butter and/or EVOO. I did get some plain, reduced fat FAGE greek yogurt for my current postop period but not eating much of it (2-3 ounces per day) Protein sources of chicken breast, salmon, shrimp, fish, black or red beans. Not a big red meat fan. Love all types of cheese but will have very little, more like a garnish. I dislike sodas and juices so no worries there. My downfall are the candy type protein bars (atkins and others) and sugar free chocolate stuff that taste so good that it is hard to eat a reasonable portion so those are out. Swearing off all alcohol until football season at the very earliest. Hopefully by then I will not want it.

I had my second fill yesterday afternoon. Got 0.6 ccs, bringing me up to 5.6 ccs. No problems with finding the port this time, I just laid down, he felt my side, popped in the numbing medication, then in went the huge butt needle and voila! It was in. He likes to take out all the fluid first then put it all back in till full. Let me tell you, when he filled it all the way up, I could feel it close off my tummy! It didn't hurt, but it did feel odd. I did the normal drink water till I felt it at the back of my throat, then he let out fluid until the water went through quickly. Last night I ate some of the shredded pork I made with maybe a 1/4 cup of mashed potatoes topped with green chili from hubby's restaurant. The nurse did tell me to lay off the yogurt in the mornings, she said it's my new ice cream, so no more (since it slides right through and won't sustain the full feeling). So this morning I brought an egg that I'll scramble with some string cheese and salsa. I go back in two weeks for my next fill.

    Hi from Ireland!

Hi there everyone Today is the first day I've felt a bit more like myself, managed to have a decent sleep last night which has obviously helped! I really am so surprised that this op has taken so much out of me, I didn't expect to feel this wiped out - just as well I'm off work for the week, how can anyone go straight back to work after having this done?! Coco, hope you're well, stop beating yourself up about the eating, like you said, if you'd excellent willpower you wouldn't have been banded - I hear that!! Allure, it was good to read your posts, sounds like you've had a bit of a battle with the band. Still, look at what you've achieved in spite of it. Scrambled egg for me today - yum! I was so fed up just with the lack of texture of the yogurts and soup of the past few days. Can't wait to get these stitches out on Sunday and then back to work on Monday... well, not really too enthused about going back to work on Monday, but will be nice to get back to a normal daily routine, the daytime tv is doing my head in! Keep strong Debb
  11. Had my surgery on 10/17/12.... up until now was really wondering what the hell I was thinking. Well, really, I'm still thinking that. I'm just out of sorts. My Dr wants me to stay on Protein shakes, Water and yogurt for the first 21 days. That was making me feel so lethargic and yucky. Yesterday I ate three or four bites of egg and instantly felt better. Is it the different type of protein or is it just in my head? I'm still getting weak quicker than I expect. Still trying to find comfort zone. I started this process to be healthier for my granddaughter. To be able to be active and live longer with her. That is my prize, so each pound lost is more time with her, thus worth every minute of any discomfort I may have.

    Heartburn.

I think u r suppose to go off total carbs. It sounds like we are both at a stall. I eat yoplait greek yogurt. Their vanilla flavor is really good and it doesnt have that greek yogurt taste. I don't know off hand the carbs but it's super low. I know it's less than chobani. How r u feeling? I'm taking my Vitamins but I'm feeling super tired still. I don't want to do anything.
  13. That sounds like classic lactose intolerance. Go to the store and get you some Lactaid pills and take 1-2 with your first sip of the shake or first bite of yogurt and it will stop.

(VSG) To those who were successful..

I'm 2+ years out. I've lost 95% of my excess weight. I have not had plastics - which would account for that last 5%. I eat a high protein, low carb diet and exercise 7 days a week. I eat roughly 1500 calories a day. I exercise at least 1 hour each day. A typical day is: Morning - coffee - black, greek yogurt (Skyr Icelandic provisions), 2 tablespoons of granola Mid morning - protein shake (1 cup fairlife skim milk, 1 scoop protein, handful frozen fruit in blender) Lunch - 3-5 ounces of chicken/turkey/beef, 2 cups of green salad mix, 1 tablespoon balsamic dressing mid afternoon - 2-3 ounces cheddar or other hard cheese Dinner - 3-5 ounces meat, salad or green veg and 1/4 c of a starch. I have had to increase my carbs to about 110 g daily due to my exercise load. I fence (en garde) 6-8 hours a week, do Cross Fit 3 hours a week and pilates and strength training another 1-3 hours a week. I eat about 110 g protein daily. I eat protein first. I drink close to a gallon of water a day. If I want a glass of wine or a cocktail, I have one. At my high point, I was over 300. I now sit around 152 with 29% bodyfat. I can deadlift 250 pounds and squat 235. I'm nationally ranked as a fencer in my age group. How well you do it up to you and your commitment to it. I've gone from a size 24 to a size 6.

I think I am going to be sick....I so blew it on Friday (and over the weekend) So on Friday...I was starving.....starving....starving....my monthly friend is here and I'm totally on a roller coaster. I can't believe everything I ate: Protein Shake Yogurt Soup at hand drink Tator Tot Casserole And then I walked over to the coffee shoppe...I totally forgot about my band...and I ordered a loaded hot chocolate AND a blueberry danish. If I needed proof that I have no restriction and the band won't stop me---I ate/drank them both. I felt so sick to my tummy after that...I didn't need to throw up I just felt ill from the sugar overload. We went to the beach this weekend and I tried to be good but I snacked quite a bit. My husband pointed out last night that I was stress eating. I wanted to cry-- I didn't even realize what I was doing. I have an appt tomorrow morning and I am going to beg beg beg for my second fill. I Can anyone else feel their port? When I sit for too long ot after I eat I swear I can feel it---it's almost like it's buldging out and poking my ribs........ Sorry for my babbling confession.....any tips of getting back on the right track???

    Hi from Ireland!

Hi Ailbhe, I didn't go on a pre-op diet I was just told no alcahol for 48hrs before the op. It would depend on your bmi if you are above 45 it might be useful to go on the milk diet for a couple of weeks before surgery, what this does is it reduces your liver size and makes it easier for the surgeon to access your stomach. As for the last supper, there is no such thing, for the first week it will be difficult to eat (in my case the first three days:redface:), you will be able to eat fairly normally once the swelling starts to come down, and thats within the first week. I was told to eat a lot of protein in the first week post surgery, to aid healing. This was achieved by eating yogurts, low fat custard, rice puddings and slim fast or any good protein drink. It wasn't difficult to do this as I didn't really feel like proper food although as I said earlier I did have a few sneaky dips into my hubby's plate from about day three. This is the week when you will have your optimum weight loss. And in most cases it stays off and some people will even lose a little bit more before their first post op app. For most people and you just have to look back on this thread, we are begging for a fill by the first appointment. So don't worry about "the last supper" there is'nt one. Stock up on some low fat custard and rice pudding portions and some soup and protein drinks and also yogurts. Make things easy for yourself for the first week post op by having little or nothing to do. Accept any help thats offered and take it easy. The best of luck and do keep posting.

    Any November surgeries?

I picked up some yogurt ice pops from target. I had some yogurt yesterday. I haven't touched not one ounce of chicken broth ???????????????? cranberry juice is all that I have been drinking besides Water. Lollipops have been delicious because I was sick of ice pops and cold stuff makes me get chest pains.... Weird. I have apple sauce too. My doctor said anything that is milk based I can eat. He also said that I could eat some oatmeal as long as I use milk to mix it up. Hopefully that will help! ????????

    December post ops

Me too! I've also added strained cream soups, sf popsicles, sf puddings and non-fat yogurt. I also try to get in a protein shake each day. It's still so BORING! Generic gas x, liquid Tylenol, and milk of magnesia have become mainstays. I'm hoping my need for this stuff reduces. The weight loss is great. But I did this to reduce my medication needs, not increase them.

It really does make you feel very isolated. My husband doesn't understand how I can eat something one day and the next day it makes me gag. Some days I eat fine and some days I eat nothing and have to force myself to drink. My staples are Quest bars and a smoothie I make with Greek yogurt, diet cran-grape juice, lemon juice, ice and stevia. It gives me 20 grams of protein plus lots of fluids since I tend to dehydrate easily. I wish I could get in a good pattern of eating regular food but it's just not happening for me yet.

    10 weeks out diet?

I eat mostly yogurt, protein drinks, lean meats, cheese, chili, raw veggies
  22. Dense proteins means high protein, low carb foods -- like meat, fish, fowl. Less dense but still good protein foods are Greek yogurt, cheese, skim milk. And, of course, protein drinks.

That list sounds similar to mine. I'm on week 2 post op RNY on Dec 30. I've considered puréeing everything in our house, but have only actually puréed Mac n Cheese with tuna ( wasn't bad tasted like cheese wiz) eating mashed and gravy, applesauce unsweetened, loads of Fage Greek yogurt with Splenda , broths, Powerade Zero, a Laughing cow cheese triangle per day, and I think I have issues with some sugar substitutes. It seems like I can drink normally, no huge issues there. Weird stuff: Crystal Light was way too sweet after surgery, couldn't stand the smells from the cleaning persons products in hospital.
  24. I know i know, they all said its not possible to do that, but I feel like maybe I did. July 21 will be 6 months from my surgery and coincidentally, my birthday! - Maybe when I went from working out at night to working out in the morning before work (up around 330/4am, workout 415-515am, home by 6am), my system went out of whack? its like after work and after a sensible protein packed dinner of mainly chicken breast or something prepared healthily, i still feel like I can eat and eat and eat. I have a protein shake with spinach for breakfast, my millions vitamins, water, decaf coffee, then a great lunch of half cup of chicken breast or a protein shake with more spinach and then dinner at home. I try to stay on my water and an 11am and 3pm snack of string cheese or peanut butter or a hardboiled egg white. Has anyone else felt like they could just keep eating? The last couple nights I ate a half container of reduced fat jif! I never even ate pb before surgery. Maybe im craving sweets? Is that im not drinking enough water? I add sugar free packets to flavor my water b/c i dont like mio’s aftertaste and dont always want a sweet powerade zero. I was having greek yogurts but stopped because i was getting burned out on dairy. Just wondering if anyone else feels this way about their pouch. Maybe its all in my head! Im 25 lbs from my goal weight!
  25. The thing is meats still make me gag. No matter how much sauce I slather them up in and how small the bites are. I don't do eggs. I'm kind of cottage cheesed out, and yogurts are making me gag (the sweetness) and the plain ones are bitter im SO LOST for foods to get my Protein in. That's why I got these. One of them is lean cuisine four cheese rigatoni. No meat in it. 15g protein. I used to love chicken breast pre-op... I'd eat it 5-6 nites a week. I NEVER dreamed I would have a problem post op Hopefully it will pass, because I'm seriously running out of ideas. Today for lunch and dinner I had 4 slices of fresh mozzarella (8 grams of protein each meal) drizzled with vinegarette and three triscuts crackers. Thankfully I'm a creature of habit and CAN stick to one or two things that I really like. But my taste buds are changing by the day and im stressing out about it. I have a half case of Premier Protein premixed and the mere smell of it makes me gag now. Sorry I'm totally ranting. I just didn't think it would be so hard for me to get my protein in, kwim?
