I should be clear that I am 2 weeks out tomorrow. I have not eaten anything that I wasn't sure about. I am getting my Protein from cottage cheese and Protein shakes and powder. The manual I was given said to buy no fat, no sugar yogurt (that's it) it didn't say to buy one high in my protein. It also said to have no sugar Popsicles to help getting fluids in. I have not had Popsicles or yogurt yet because I haven't been sure about the brand. I feel like some comments on here were judging me and my ability to do this program. I simply had a question about whether the yogurt was what was recommended in my manual (low fat, sweetened by Splenda). Obviously I am trying to confirm something before I put it in my body but I am following the manual and life diet perfectly. I don't feel it was a stupid question to ask others opinions before I ate it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Before I give you my take (opinion) on this yogurt, I'd like to suggest that you make an appointment with your bariatric RD to discuss how to make good food choices, how rigid to be when you make them and how to read nutrition labels and ingredients lists. I'm going on the belief that your surgery career is young and feeling a little overwhelmed and cautious. You wouldn't be alone in that. Better to get some peace of mind and confidence than to feel unhappy. Whatever I write below is opinion, but opinion that has served me well. Beware of opinions from many quarters. Loads of input from many people may might make your woozy. Another reason to run things by your RD -- not only the facts, but, again, guidance on making choices on your own. Also keep in mind that I'm not advocating foods that you haven't been cleared for yet. That is, if you're to be on liquids, don't grab a sandwich just because it will make you mouth happy. It probably would do that, but all the rest of you will mutiny. I'm going to disagree with the knowledgeable Inner Surfer Girl on this one. The yogurt you're asking about, approx 4 oz, is only 40 calories. You'll be eating one container, not dozens. If it makes your mouth and your mind happy and will help you stick to your overall plan, I say "Go for it." Check the ingredients list. If sugar, corn syrup and such things aren't listed, sugar isn't a concern. If the popsicles contain real fruit, such as the yogurt, they contain the natural sugar of the fruit rather than the added sugar you want to avoid. Empty, to be sure, but only 15 calories. Again, you're eating one, maybe two, not a lifetime supply at a sitting. If the mouth is happy and a yen is satisfied, I still say "Go for it." When I plan my meals and Snacks, I consider not only my daily calorie limit and goals for protein, et al., but I also take into account that I don't want to feel under a sentence of punishment and deprivation. Losing weight should be joyful on all fronts. -

Have considered Greek Yogurt. It is higher in protein so that makes it a better option. Be careful that it also doesn't have too much added sugar. -

That yogurt is lousy? I tried to get one without sugar, fat and low calorie. It's sweetened with Splenda. I won't eat it if it's bad for me , I just don't know which brand to buy. I would love some recommendations. I live in Canada. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

My cheat..
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to FunkyMunkyBrat's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@grasseschic, whenever you're cleared for all the ingredients, this butternut casserole is wonderful according to my tastebuds and those of anyone I've ever made it for. Of course ignore Katzen's number of servings; for WLS folk, it yields more than 4 or 5 servings; you'll see for yourself. I don't get why people sweeten already-sweet things like winter squash and sweet potatoes. The contrast of the savory ingredients here makes it. I have the original cookbook (from the 1970's I think??) Any way I got it in the 80's. The recipe may have given a choice between yogurt and buttermilk, but I can't say how much of the latter. If you make this, read first, as Katzen never listed ingredients in order of use. http://www.molliekatzen.com/recipes/recipe.php?recipe=arabian_casserole P.S. It's not a high-Protein dish, so a smaller serving may work best as a side dish. -
What was your "last" meal?
catalina_uk replied to lgivaudan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Bacon sandwich and dulce de lecce cake+custard...but it was sometime well before I started my pre op diet. I m 5 months out and I don't think I'll ever try that cake again.Anything sugary makes me feel funny, not sick, light headed. And we are talking here about a fruit yogurt not an icecream or chocolate bar. Haven't tasted that in 6 months. -
I had a terrible time with the pureed stage for the same reasons you list. I would gag and end up vomiting and it was a total aversion. I pretty much stuck to things that would not gag me such as greek yogurt, cottage cheese, chicken broth with added Protein power. My bariatric team had me switch to premier Protein shakes and milk them down with fair life so they were thinner. Premier does not have that disgusting protein taste or smell and they are ready made. In the beginning weeks i would mix 1/3 of the 11 oz shake with 2/3 fairlife protein milk. My tummy did not and still does not tolerate regular milk for some reason. I can eat other dairy but not milk so i buy lactose free milk which fairlife is. You really need to get some protein in your body, besides getting sick you can lose your hair. Everyday it should get a little better but you really need to try some different protein options. Best of luck to you.

My cheat..
FunkyMunkyBrat replied to FunkyMunkyBrat's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm not giving you hell, I'm simply pointing out a different way of thinking. And curious. Why did you NEED something off your plan? Just as there is a huge difference between cheat and choice, there is a big difference between NEED and WANT. Spaghetti squash is a great choic nutrtionally but not neccessarily soon post op. The stringy texture was a no no on my plan for three to four months. Same with string cheese, celery, asparagus... LMAO.. I know you're not.. I meant I was going to tag you to tease.. Just playful shit.. My choices for food is.. Veggie Soup which sucks and I'm going to buy stuff to make my own.. Greek yogurt which I love.. But veggies wise is.. Baby carrots, cukes, tomato, broccoli (which I'm not a big fan of), sf pudding, sf Jello,.. And I'm kinda guessing their keeping it like that for people that get overwhelmed and end up making bad decisions.. But I am going to call in the am n talk to my nut about it all.. This is just week 1 of a 2wk diet they want me to do for 4 wks n don't even have a surgery date yet.. I'm not post op .. I'm pre and no date even yet but everything is complete and they just ha to submit to my insurance.. My next appt is 20th.. *fingers crossed* Munky -

How are you suppose to get protein in on all liquid diet ?
nikko9599 replied to itzbrittaanyx3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been alternating 1 Oz of water and 1 Oz Protein shake every 15 minutes. 2 Oz was too much for me. I don't finish a shake in 1 day they are 11 Oz though. Lately I've been adding pudding or a popsicle for a different tastes. Yesterday I started adding yogurt and Mira lax to my water Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App -

For some odd reason I can only tolerate the chocolate flavored one. It goes down easier. Never tried the other flavors except for strawberry cream... idk but I can't tolerate it. I also eat the tuna packs, i pick the lemon pepper one and that little pack has 18g of Protein and I add a little bit of non fat greek yogurt and its amazing. You can do it!!!! I do get pains tho, not my incision sights or gas but the stapleline inside my stomach. I drink Pepcid for acid so it doesnt bother me as much and I drink tramadol for pain but that also makes me sleep all day so I only drink half. But let me know how it goes!!! 8 Week Shopping List
Bufflehead replied to NewAdventure2016's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Tuna and salmon packets, turkey meatballs, eggs, PB2, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, avocados, frozen artichoke hearts, asparagus (I like the frozen grilled asparagus from Trader Joe's), cauliflower rice (frozen from Trader Joe's), sardines, canned mackerel, frozen scallops, frozen shrimp, Babybel cheese, fresh mozzarella cheese sticks, unsweetened vanilla cashew milk (for mixing protein shakes etc.), frozen turkey burgers, spicy refried beans, spicy chicken sausage. I rely a lot on frozen meat & veggies, as well as tinned meat, because I live alone and couldn't possibly get through fresh meat or fish before it goes bad unless I ate the same thing for every meal (scallops for breakfast lunch and dinner) for three days in a row! -

That's great that he doesn't believe in the artificial stuff, I might try some of these. I was thinking Greek yogurt with 3 T of nonfat dry milk is like 27 g of Protein. Never thought to buy dry milk powder. Thanks for sharing. Sent from my SM-G900H using the BariatricPal App -
Filled? Discomfort? Satisfied?
mr1121 replied to Leopard sleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Last night I decided to give yogurt a shot. Your body will give some sort of sign. In the beginning eating slow is probably one of the most important. I feel. Anyway. It's gives your brain the time it needs right now to process a satisfied feeling. Mine last night was on that last bite I ended up having it come right back up. I was surprised though it was just about 3/4 of THE containers Michelle Rose Spring TX 77373 -
Anybody 4-5 days out feeling hungry?
gemigirl replied to mr1121's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is there a section of your discharge instructions that says how long for each phase? At 4 days out I started full liquids, which I was on for 10 days. If you have started full liquids, Greek yogurt is great to fill you up. And Babbs isn't being a f'n DI@@. You just barely had major surgery. This isn't like weight watchers with suggestions to follow and you get 250 calories a day to splurge. This is because your stomach was cut and stapled mere days ago and is NOT healed. It cannot handle solid food right now, period. If you eat something you risk a leak, a stricture, readmission to the hospital...at the very least you'll be in pain. My program was very clear about these things prior to surgery and I knew what I had to do at at no point did I go against the plan, because I was risking my health. If anything wasn't clear, I asked. Call your surgeon's office and ask how long each phase is. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Chobani simply 100 is my favorite. It's blended, no fruit chunks. I like all the flavors, but have always loved greek yogurt. Once you get up to a few months, you could try Chobani flips - comes in flavors like key lime pie, with little graham cracker bits and white chocolate. Haven't checked nutrition on them but they're very tasty.

We currently sell one-dimensional Livliga portion plates as well as the portion8 plate in the BariatricPal Store. The LivLiga dinnerware is great to use at home as a replacement for regular dinnerware. We receive quite a bit of positive feedback as well as quite a few complaints about the Portion8 plates. Our customers feel they're a bit flimsy and they're not watertight, which causes liquids to leak from them. We're thinking about designing our own leak-proof, microwave safe, dishwasher safe, freezable and BPA-Free portion controlled lunch or bento box. Something you can use at home or take to work that will offer a tangible demonstration of how much food we as WLS patients should eat for each meal. I'm thinking a meal should have: up to 3 ounces Protein. up to 1 cup veggies (or you can swap fruit) optionally another serving of veggies/fruit. optionally 1/2 cup protein (cottage cheese/yogurt) optionally 1 ounce cheese or nuts as a secondary protein (if you opt for this, probably you would have it instead of the 3-oz protein or the cottage cheese/yogurt). optionally a starch (size of a slice of bread, up to 1/2 cup of cooked space for a condiment So the plate would be required to have sections for protein and veggies/fruit and condiment, then you can choose up to 3 of the other options (more veggies/fruit, dairy, cheese/nuts, starch). I'm looking for any ideas or feedback our members may have on designing this plate! I will send a free plate to anyone that provides a useful suggestion that we implement into our plate.
