I also have UHC Choice Plus. They didn't require a 6 month diet from me either. My plan only required a 5 year weight history with a diagnosis of morbid obesity. If you call them, they should be able to tell you exactly what you need.

51 and TONS of fun: My Story
BarefootDrummer replied to Hayleymillay's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yay! I'm glad the surgery went well. Congratulations on the continued weight loss. You're doing great! -
I got the gastic sleeve done on 6/28/2016. Some days are hard and a learning experience. My start weight was 276. Before surgery was 250. Right now is 222. I walk everyday but I need to do more of a workout. For some reason I am scared to workout. I know it will be alot easier but don't want to hurt myself. As far as eating. It am a bit over a month out. I am eating some solid foods. I still drink my Protein shake for Breakfast. I find it hard to eat right away, around 10am is where I can eat a fruit or Jello. For lunch and supper I eat every small portion of what I make for my family. I have learned to use the app the fitness pal. I love it. I am up to 600 calories. Everyday is a challenge. I think I can eat more and I am reminded to eat slow and not much. It is all a learning process. Sent from my SM-G920R4 using the BariatricPal App

I decided to go vegetarian (again). 3 years ago before I gained almost 100lbs I was a vegetarian. I felt light, healthy and energized back then. I always wanted to go back to it but couldn't find the willpower. Thanks to having the VSG I've been without meat since surgery & feel amazing! Everyone's journey is their own & I'm certainly not encouraging or saying my way is the best way at all. However I would like to have support and wanted to share with my bariatricpal family ! If anyone else is looking to do the same (after much research) or already may be a veg please connect so we can share recipes and such. I'll keep you all posted on my journey. You will. You are gaining muscle which weighs more than fat. You also were pumped full of fluids and more than likely haven't lost that yet. Don't sweat it. It will happen. Sent from my SM-G800R4 using the BariatricPal App

I was too tight with 6cc and had .4cc taken out now I have very little restriction I can eat way too much of anything. I'm afraid I'm going to gain weight because I'm able to eat too much I trying not to but I'm nervous.

I had a fill 3weeks before Thanksgiving and had a terrible time until my next appt, on the 2nd week of December/ I told my Dr, that I had been "throwing up" on the average of once every day or so. He was concerned that I might have a slip if I continued doing this so he didan unfill. I feel no restriction and have gained 5 pds in the last 3 and half weeks. I know that it is all my fault for eating all the wrong things over the holidays and intend to get back on track right away. I would rather have to try harder on my own than to be too tight and suffer a slip. Wish me luck. Jenhay

So I have just stepped over the border into onederland!! Took a little longer than I thought it would, and the last stall felt like forever! I still have almost 20 pounds to lose to reach the goal weight I set pre-op...180...I figure that's reasonable for my 5'8" larger frame. I haven't been under 200 in over 20 years! *happy dance*

Been Givin the run around
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to Syl 153's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I understand that you're eager to lose weight. Reading between the lines, however, it seems that you may not have demonstrated a wish to lose weight sufficiently to the bariatric practice or your insurance company. For example, you say you've been gaining weight in the two years. That's very different from, if not losing, just staying the same. It's important that those who make the decisions for you (insurance and surgeon) see that you understand what your part is in losing weight after surgery. Before you run off to Mexico, I think you would do yourself a great service by examining whether you truly have been given the run-around or if you have a part in the process taking so unusually long. -
The doctor said I have to lose the weight again. He also said he would not be apposed to me using diet pills, but would not prescribed them. He told me I would have to get my general practitioners to prescribe them. She said that they do not prescribe diet pills. So I made a appointment with a local weight loss clinic, they gave me 1 months worth off Phendimetrazine pills. I go back for another month of pills on the 14th. I have lost 14lb on the pills, the diet doctor has been monitoring my blood pressure. He said it was all good. I have 1 1/2 monthso till I see my bariatric surgeon again. Wish me luck. Thanks for being so nice Sent from my SM-G930T1 using the BariatricPal App

Been Givin the run around
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Syl 153's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had some delays due to financing issues and even had to repeat some testing because the window had passed, so I know how frustrating it can be. In the end, everything worked out for the best. Do you know what it would take to get a surgery date? Are you required to lose a certain amount of weight? Are you working with a NUT? I know that many people have had success by going to Mexico, but if your delays have been because of health reasons then I would encourage you to resolve those before you pursue the idea of going to Mexico. You want to be as healthy as possible going into surgery whatever you decide. -
My turn tomorrow. Nervous but it's a must!
Sunny222 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am having surgery tomorrow and I too have went back and forth in my mind. I lost 80lbs a few years ago and then hurt my hip so the weight has creeped back on and I am up 30lbs. In order to get my hip fixed I must lose 40 lbs. I am now 230 but of course I hope I lose more than that. I find that my self esteem is tied to my weight unfortunately and being newly single after a 24 year marriage it's in my thoughts always. I pray this surgery is the right decision. I wanted to do this journey alone as my family will not be supportive but the hospital required I have someone pick me up and wouldn't let me cab it home. So my brother knows now. He was supportive but I am still bummed I had to involve family. That sounds sad I suppose but it is my reality. I love this forum and appreciate all of you who share and provide support. You have no idea how much I have learned from this place. ❤️❤️ Tomorrow I start a new chapter. Appreciate your thoughts and prayers. Lori. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

There is no lotion or pill that is going to have any real effect on saggy skin. Using lotions is good for basic hydration of the outer surface, but that's it. It isn't going to radically fix skin that has been stretched out from being fat. Several things are in play for how well your skin will bounce back after weight loss: Genetics. If you have family members that are not real wrinkled and seem to be aging well, then chances are you might have a decent chance of having good skin. If you didn't get lots of stretch marks from gaining weight, then that is also a sign of good skin genetics. Count yourself lucky for this. Age is also a factor. If you're young, skin just has more elasticity. How fast you lose weight. If you are a fast loser, then the skin will sag much more. The slower/longer it takes you to lose, the more time your skin has to adjust to weight loss. Of course if you are a fast loser, you might look much more saggy for a while, but skin may tighten up after so long, so it's not terrible to be a fast loser. How long you've been fat. The longer you've been at a large weight and the longer your skin has been stretched out, the less likely it will bounce back as well. It is just like blowing up a balloon - blow it up and then let the air out immediately, the balloon will probably look pretty good, but wait for 5 days and deflate it and it will be stretched out and wrinkly. Same principle with skin. The best thing you can do is make sure to keep up with your Protein and Water. If you're taking your Vitamins, eat healthy and stay hydrated, that is your best path. By all means, use good lotions like coco butter to keep the outer layer hydrated and nice, but what you put in your body is probably the best way to help minimize the sag. Oh! And avoid tanning and sun damage, and exercise to build muscle since that also helps fill out skin that has lost fat.

I'm 34 weighing in at 252 lbs. I've struggled with my weight my entire life. I've finally had enough, the day I could no longer strap into my favorite roller coaster was the day I started looking into weight loss surgery. I've decided on the gastric sleeve and am currently waiting to schedule my sleep study and attend the mandatory seminar for qualifications for my insurance. This is an amazing place to read information and I'm grateful to you all!!! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using the BariatricPal App

Activity Resrtictions??
jillagin2000 replied to CHACHA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes it is that involved, they want to be sure you're healthy enough for the surgery. If you're an experienced rider and you're horse is sound and sane then trail riding at your present weight should pose no problems. Especially if it's one of your only modes of exercise. You're horse is fine, check out the pro reiners, ropers, and cutters- they're often huge men and their horses are little but they work together well. Get out there girl!!! -
Activity Resrtictions??
jillagin2000 replied to CHACHA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
well, fwiw, even the skinniest dressage queen should use a mounting block to mount because it's better for the horse's back and the saddle. I started my late BS Paint myself when I weighed 290lbs and I weigh 250 now (having band complications that will require band removal and hopefully a revision to RNY). I ride 3-4 days a week on my 7yr old Thoroughbred and am learning Dressage now. I asked my dressage trainer whether my weight was hurting my mare and he said no basically because I know how to ride. I'm not a sack of potatoes that can't balance in the saddle. So, don't let your current weight stop you. It took me a while to get my surgery but my initial weight loss was significant (40lbs in 3 months). You'll be fine!!! -
Starting weight: 349 Surgery weight: 326 Current weight: 299 I'm 2days from wk 4. I am just about to move to soft foods...yay! New food tastes make life better. Does anyone worry they are loosing weight fast enough? Like I'm not doing it right. I follow the diet to a T, exercise 30min a day...I still feel tired a lot. I keep my Proteins up and liquids mostly up. Am I just worrying too much? Drs say I am doing fine, but I have a hard time believing it. My husband went through a gastric bypass just 4days ago, so I am taking care of him. His weight is dropping really fast, I try not to be jealous, we are doing this together, so we'll be there for our children and he had diabetes. Am I just overwhelmed, this whole journey is a rollercoaster of emotions? Does anyone else feel completely nutty? Sent from my XT1650 using the BariatricPal App

Can Someone Help me with My Weight Ticker
pink dahlia replied to Mikee57's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Hi mikee, I read your profile, you and I are very close in age and height. Im almost 56 and im 5' 3, and 160 lbs. As I calmly explained to my lap band surgeon 2 weeks ago during a 6 mo checkup," I think im done losing weight as ive been at this weight for a year now. I would love to get to 140 lbs, but im 55, had a child and at the end of menopause, so im not expecting to have my teenage body back, because things have changed !" He calmly looked at me and said " You can do this if you really want to, just cut back a few more calories and exersize a bit more! " I love him to death, but seriously ? Did you not hear my reasons ? Anyhooooooo.......... I think you have to listen to your Dr, but just as important, listen to YOUR body ! You' ll know when your weight is "right"! -
Starting to panic
gohelpyourself replied to Valerie R.'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on day two of the diet. I am definitely sluggish and ornery to say the least but it is doable. My surgeon lets us eat a 1/2 cup of a non-starchy vegetable a day. Yesterday I had more than a half a cup probably more like a full cup. I think today I may be able to stick to the half. Each day it will be easier. I think the main intention (I get the liver reduction part) is to prepare us for what is to come post-op. I definitely miss chewing on something!!! You can do this. Think how good you are going to feel after you lose the excess weight. I have a toddler to chase and he is my motivation. Think of what motivates you most and run with that... let that fuel your fire!! Good luck. You will do fine. Positive thinking. -
As a quick recap, Besides my family, I only told two people about my surgery. But they ended up telling a lot of other people, so basically almost everyone I know now knows. Fortunately everyone has been very supportive, asking How I'm doing and congratulating me for doing this for myself. Well today I went in to get my nails done (the one girlie thing I do for myself ) and as soon as I walk in my nail tech says "you've got to tell me how you've lost so much weight and don't tell me it's exercise and diet 'cause that's crap" Well with a salon full of people, I tried to hum and haw around it awhile but finally told her about the surgery. She and another patron were intrigued and full of questions. After the gossip session was all over she asked me why I never said anything before (I had actually been in there 6 days postop ) and I told her it was embarrassing to me that I was such a big fat cow that I had to have surgery to lose weight and I didn't want people to be watching my weight loss and gossiping about me. She exclaimed it was nothing to be embarrassed about and if anyone was gossiping it's because they would be jealous of me getting skinny and they didn't have the balls to do what I did. I seriously can't believe what supportive responses I've gotten from everyone so far and I'm so grateful I don't have any horrible, jealous haters in my life.
