ACID REFLUX/HEART BURN
berry girl replied to Dabeyhive's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For a couple of years now there have been reports of the danger of heartburn drugs/PPI blockers like zantac that are commonly used to help with the side effects of gastric surgery. Today Canada officially recalled these drugs due to their link to cancer. Personally, I am completely dependent on these drugs due to the acid reflux side effect of my gastric sleeve. If you use these prescriptions daily, I strongly urge you to contact your doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible. https://healthycanadians.gc.ca/recall-alert-rappel-avis/hc-sc/2019/70989a-eng.php?utm_source=hs_email&utm_medium=email&utm_content=77363999&_hsenc=p2ANqtz-8zLyVDfQD8I8hCu3-XeY7Fh97rFTkpD6v27F37TI29RzLKaNdKiDz_TiM1BKOzRo_NfiS6IqmuYpTuPc_HRfMUlmpaxA&_hsmi=77363999 image-0.00596046447753906.jpg -

Sorry about your problem and I'm happy to hear you are on your journey! I was 72 when I had my sleeve done July 30. I'm losing and have hit my second stall, at almost 8 weeks. This time I'm not losing my mind, kind of. You know it is 1.8 pounds short of my next goal. I have set 5-pound goals since my surgery as I found 10-pound ones take too long. Keep drinking and keep your protein up, that is hard too when you don't eat much. I also went on Amazon and ordered children's stainless flatware. The small spoon and fork keep my bites small. You did great losing so much before surgery so I know you will be successful. It is great to have another senior in our group.

Went to surgeon office today and I'm down 7 more pounds only need to do 10 day pre-OP diet instead of 2 weeks. Everyday counts lol...

Food Before and After Photos
FluffyChix replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ok, so now I'm approaching the chaffel bandwagon. I love them made with egg whites rather than whole egg. No eggy aftertaste to contend with. I also used Daisy 2% cottage cheese as part of the cheese and added a spoon of protein powder to up the protein even more and add to the crispness. Even though I overcooked these (should have been closer to 4 mins rather than 5), the turkey club sandwich was the closest I've come to an honest to God sandwich since a year before surgery! AND, go run and immediately buy these Twin Peaks Protein Puffs from Alex in the Bariatric Pal Store. Cuz I kid you not...the ingredients aren't crazy bad AND they taste and feel so much like miniature "cheesy poofs" aka UTZ cheeseballs that I feel like I should confess being bad. But the whole meal was less than 300cals and less than 8g net carbs, and had 37g of protein. Lemme repeat that in case you missed it...37g of protein. I feel like I'm yelling. Am I yelling? I ate the whole damn thing. It wasn't really a trigger meal. But I absently continued to eat cuz it tasted so great and was so exciting to eat as a sandwich with cheesy poofs. Can I just say, I heart the crap outta maintenance? Here's the MFP info. The order of the macros is: cals; protein; fat; carb (whole); fiber; sugar And here are the Twin Peaks Protein Puffs I ordered from Bariatric Pal Store. I'm so STOKED about these. TOTES worth the $25. Seriously. A serving size is 1 cup and there are 10 servings. But I only served 6g of protein puffs with my meal and it was PLENTY! These are not very sliderish cuz of the protein content. So I felt replete from them. So I should get about 50 servings per container. Bargain! (I love these enough, that I'm racing to leave a review and I rarely review things!) I can't wait to order the other flavors! -
Do you revise from sleeve to RNY due to GERD?
TiredOfMyself replied to SeattleLady's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was sleeved October 2016. I had horrible reflux daily and was on several meds. I still gagged and vomited up acid daily. I also gained back 25 pounds I had lost. I was snacking all the time because if my stomach was empty I threw up. I had my revision last Monday, September 2019. So far so good. No reflux. -

Lynda486 replied to Repeatingthoughts's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 10 days out today and finally have dropped all the water weight from the hospital. Still feeling like a hot mess, but there are changes for the better each day. I am getting in 50 to 60 in fluids a day and only 2 protein shakes and do I feel weak. Today is my first follow up appointment. Still taking a nap everyday, but maybe not today. Hubs is taking me and we might go to the store after, so we shall see how that goes. I am worried about going back to work next week. Glad to see everyone is doing so well! Take care! -

I think I made a big mistake
Bastian replied to chula313's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi @chula313 first of all which procedure did you have? 2ndly whichever procedure it was you should be able to tolerate 60ml an hour with constant sipping. 3rd you NEED to go to the ER, you should be sore but not so uncomfortable that you need heavy-duty painkillers still or not tolerate fluids lovely. you are almost 10 days out and should be coping pain and fluid wise and are probably dehydrated by now. So get yourself to the emergency room and get sorted. I had a terrible time post-op and couldn't even keep 2.5 ml down which is just ridiculous, anyway I got sorted in the end but after my 2nd op by day 10 I felt like a different person compared to day 10 after the first op. Ok, It meant I was in the hospital almost 3 weeks but I got 'fixed'. If they have no idea in the ER insist they get a gastroenterologist who knows about bari surgery to come and review you. So sorry you are in so much pain it is hideous and I really hope you are sorted quickly and I would be complaining big time about not getting a response from where you got it done. Please don't delay and get to the hospital to get reviewed then let us know what is going on GOOD LUCK and big virtual pain-numbing hugs xx -
I'm really having a terrible time with all aspects of the surgery I had my operation at barix in ypsilanti Michigan on Tuesday the 17 I have been in excruciating pain since surgery I was discharged from the hospital on the 20th they sent me home with 10 dilodid pills and to take one every 4 hours as needed by Monday I was out of medication I've tried calling the clinic and have left 3 messages for my surgeon and I still havent got a response needless to say I went to the urgent care on Monday and the doctor prescribed norco only 16 pills to take every 4 hours I'm still in pain I've been in so much pain I'm having a hard time with liquids although I've managed to eat a pudding cup here and there I cant tolerate the sweetness of protein shakes and I've run out of money to buy anymore shakes to try no one ever told me how much money I would have to spend on over the counter medications and vitamins I Seriously feel like I'm at my breaking point I know I'm failing miserably at drinking my liquids I have not been drinking much broth or jello the only things I can stomach are popsicles juice and pudding I feel like something is going really wrong I'm kind of scared not to mention pissed off with forest health centers call center for not "caring" who else do I call when I was discharged I was told to call if I had any concerns or questions and I seem like a bother and cant get any support from there if I go to a regular hospital in the morning will they know how to treat me I'm in serious pain and I'm starting to feel dehydrated and my mental state is not great at this point I'm actually losing my will to want to live this is the hardest thing I've ever experienced in my entire life and there's no going back I'm feeling completely miserable and alone [emoji25] Sent from my SM-J737T1 using BariatricPal mobile app

Yes. I stayed the same weight for 3 days, but then it bumped down 0.6 ounces which put me at 19 pounds total. This is my first 2 weeks so going from 1200 calories per day pre-surgery to maybe 500 calories post-surgery per day really dropped some pounds for me. I know it will not keep at this pace. I'll take what I can get for now.

You lost 19 pounds in 2 weeks. Wow

So what are you unable to eat now?
Sheribear68 replied to mlmx1138's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yeah, pasta is something that I decided was never going to be in my diet again. I had a wedding to attend in July and they had bbq buffet. I tried one bite of Mac and cheese from my husbands plate and it was gross. Everyone else said it tasted good, so I know it wasn’t just bad Mac and cheese, lol I also had part of a piece of bread with almost the same response. I got caught in a situation where I had to order out, and I got a turkey sandwich and tried to keep just enough bread on it so it wouldn’t fall apart. Again, it tasted awful and got stuck so I finally abandoned my dignity and ate the turkey and cheese with my fingers. I’m still about 10-15 pounds from maintenance and have zero idea how I’m going to “get over” my fear of carbs. Will be interesting -
I am seven months post-bypass-surgery and having terrible stomach pains and vomiting at least once a day. Had an ultrasound and they found gallstones. Have an appointment with the surgeon for this Friday and am afraid he's going to say I need another surgery to remove the gallbladder. Can they dissolve the stones? Or am I going to have to suck it up and have to deal with another surgery? This will be the third, as I had emergency surgery 10 days post-op for a blockage and was hospitalized for 10 days with that one. Needless to say, with all the anesthesia my hair has been falling out in fistfuls. I was hoping it was going to get better, but now with the prospect of more anesthesia... well, baldness, here I come....
