Going out to eat with the Band

We eat out at least once per week. I don't have any trouble. Sometimes I will split with one of my kids or husband & sometimes I order my own and take leftovers home. I can pretty much eat whatever I want - I try to eat "healthy" - I stay away from breads, meats can be difficult depending how they are cooked. This lapband has not stopped me from eating out or having an occasional alcoholic beverage - I just need to think about my choices.

    15 Days till banding

I saw my Dietician today - Trudy Wiliams. I have been seeing Trudy for a couple of years now and she is very familiar with my struggle. She is very possitive and supportive about LB and has every confidence that I will do well. She ran through the pre op. diet, the post op diet and the puree diet. I just want to get started now because I have everything ready to go. I think the 2 weeks pre op diet is going to be the hardest so I just want to get that over and done with. I've been having a few of my old favourite meals the last few days - saying good by to them for good I suppose. Today I had Narchos. I feel so full but I dont feel bad. It wasn't that great. Tomorrow morning I weigh myself and take measurments. These will be my starting figures.

    Headaches

Does anyone notice if they are getting more headaches since their surgery? I don't know if its my body going through withdrawl...from not having so much fat/calories/carbohydrates....Or if I am just not sleeping enough....or what the hell is going on...But it seems like every other day for the last week i have had a headache. And the only thing I can take now is that nasty liquid tylenol!!! I would rather swallow a sword!!!! I use to be prone to migraines and what would trigger my migraines is a)not sleeping enough not eatting enough.....The headaches im getting now are not by any means migraines, but dull constant aches.......makes one quite miserable. Okay...any feed back would be appreciated. Talk to you later

    Headaches

I had headaches every night for years. Only Anacin worked for me. As far as I'm concerned, Tylenol is a non medicine. Doesn't do a thing. I was afraid to take anything because I thought it would burn a hole in my pouch but I've been very lucky and have not had a real headache since my surgery. (May 2nd) Now I think my headaches were due to my blood sugar trying to adjust itself. My blood sugar has been almost normal since a week after surgery. Good luck to you. I hope your headaches go away like mine did.
  7. Hi Everyone! I've been browsing your forums for a week or so now to help me make my decision whether to go for the surgery or not, and I thought it was about time I introduced myself. If all goes well I am looking at being sleeved in early September, but there is just one question I have which I can't seem to find the answer to anywhere online... Once you reach your ideal weight how do you stop losing? I have seen a few people whose tickers are now showing underweight, and I know someone who lives near me who has had it done and is now painfully thin. Does this happen a lot? How do you stabilise your weight when you can only eat such small amounts? I have been underweight before as an aneorexic teenager and I looked terrible. I really don't want to end up there again :tongue_smilie: I hope someone can give some feedback. Thanks for taking the time to read my post. L x
  8. Why can't you go back and get your fill early? Why do you have to wait until March? I started booking my next appt 2 weeks after my fill in case I didn't feel restriction. I just had my 3rd fill, 5.5cc in a 10 cc band and now feel restriction. I will see how it goes and if I am still feeling restriction next week I will cancel my appt and make it for a later date.
  9. So, I had a bad second fill experience. I'm over it now, but have no restriction at all. Can't get my third fill until the first week of March. Here are some things I'm thinking of doing to get through this and still lose some weight. Any other suggestions are GREATLY appreciated! 1. I am planning healthy dinners for this week so I don't just do carry out and get something unhealthy. 2. I'm going to add an extra day of working out. 3. I am not going to eat after 8pm. 4. No more munching on snacks at work. I'm going to bring hot tea and have that instead.
  10. Hello. I am a 45-year-old female from Birmingham, Alabama. I am currently scheduled to have the gastric sleeve on December 18, 2015, pending final approval. I can't believe I let myself get to this point. Over the years I was focused on finishing college and starting my career, then with some ups and downs of life added in...a car accident in which left me with the inability to walk for almost a year, caring for my mother who battled cancer and my sister who fell ill suddenly, both of whom died within 11 months of each other, then a brother who became ill and died at an early age....etc, etc....food became my comfort, and I eventually hit my highest weight of 280 last month. I have tried Weightwatchers three times, losing up to about 20 lbs each time, only to gain it back plus some. I've tried LA Weightloss....oh, my the money I spent on that program is just ridiculous! I've been a member of a gym for most of my adult life...thousands of dollars for that. I went to my PCP about a month ago, and she suggested I check into the sleeve. I was extremely hesitant, but with the words MORBIDLY OBESE constantly on my mind, I decided to do some research as well as listen to other people's stories on YouTube. I am excited as well as nervous. I've shared this with three people close to me and also a coworker. However, I sort of regret sharing with the coworker because I'm scared that I will fail at this. I'm scared that I won't be able to adjust my eating habits. I'm the person that has to have dessert... I am addicted to sugar. I'm scared that I won't lose weight or even worse that I will stretch my new stomach. Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Please share any tips or advice. It's great to have a place to commuinic with others who are on the same journey.

How Often Are You Getting A Fill?

My surgeon typically wants to do fills every 6 weeks, until you are in the "green zone". You most likely will not be able to tolerate solid foods for at least a couple of days after the fill. I have been advised to have a liquid diet for 2 days and then "mushies" for another day after a fill. As Mis73 has shared, it's important to take a "gulp" of Water in the office to be certain that the water can be tolerated by the pouch without coming back up.

    Burping/ Water

holy cow - my personal opinion is that your body is telling you that you're doing too much! At my post op today, I was told no exercise (other than short walks) for a month post op because the stomach is still very swollen. not sure mowing the grass when you're 1 1/2 weeks post op is a good idea, but I'm glad that you're feeling well enough to do so....but be careful, ok?
  14. I was banded on April the 11th. I have had 4.3cc in a 10cc band. I had ABSOLUTELY NO restriction after the surgery, none, really after my first fill, and only a little restriction after my 2nd fill...and that is only if I really think about it and try to convince myself that I am full. I take that back. I am often full after my 3oz of protein, but it doesn't last very long. My stomach is usually growling 3 hours later. I am also questiioning if I have the right amount in my band, because there is NOTHING that I cant tolerate. Bread...no problem(don't eat much, but half/a hamburger bun this past weekend didn't phase me...1/4 of a waffle last week didn't either) The promise of having harldly ANY appetite between meals, just hasn't been true for me. I have only lost 10lbs in the 8 weeks since my surgery. I am working out 4-6 days a week with either aerobics or walking for an hour or more. I will be including strength training starting today. I'm not going to lie and say that I have been perfect in changing my eating habits. on a good day I have between 1200 and 1500 hundred calories. I may or may not have ALL 60 grams of protein that is suggested. On a bad day, I may only hit between 4--50 grams of protein. On a really bad day, I might have as many as 2000 calories, but this is still WAAAY fewer than I had without my band. And I try to increase the exercise on the days when I slip. What could I be doing wrong. Is it going to take a Zero tolererance for mess-ups on my eating program. If so, that''s discouraging. If I could've done that, I wouldn't have needed the band. I have been told by the nurse in my Doctors office, that most people don't feel the type of restriction that they hoped for until somewhere between the 3rd and 6th fill. I am trying to not get another fill, until I figure our what I need to change on my end...besides...I'm too ashamed. :confused2:Any advice?
  15. Thanks everyone, so much for your support. I needed the encouragement more than you could know. Isolating myself from reciving (and giving) support has been my biggest pitfall throughout the years in my efforts to lose weight. I think for the next week I am going to keep a written log of my food. Maybe that will give me a better picture of what I need to do before I decide whether or not to have another fill. However, regarding yvonneb3 comments: "It sounds to me like you keep pushing to see how far you can go and eat. What you are doing is restretching your stomach and making it harder for the band to do its work. " I do not intentionally "push" to see how far I can go. I generally eat until I am "satisfied" not "Full", but to get to this point, it can take anywhere from 1 cup to 1 1/2 cups of food...sometimes much less, because my band is tight in the morning. I thought that I should be feeling satisfied at 1/2 cup of food, but that has not been the case so far. "If you are really working out as much as you say, then you have to be taking in too many calories to lose anything. I have no reason to be anything less than 100% truthful on this forum. Lying to myself and others about food is how I ended up 100 pounds overweight. As I stated above, I am going to start keeping a food log. There is obviously something I am not seeing. I have a toddler and I have a bad habit of taking a bite here, or a bite there of whatever it is that I am trying to coax her into eating. Maybe over the course of a week, that could be what is holding me back. We'll see. We all know how hard it is to diet but the band won't do all the work for you. I never thought it would. Nor am I trying to get it to do all the work for me. I assumed that my success would be based on 80% my effort and maybe 20% the band. SO FAR, it has been 97% my effort and maybe 3% the band. I apologize if I sound a little irritated. I'm fighting off a chocolate craving as I type this. At this point, I would gladly give up the toddler that I mentioned in the paragraph above, in exchange for a Godiva Truffle. Any takers???

yoga-now my port hurts (sore) HELP

I do yoga with some pilates several times a week starting 6 wks post op. At first I was nervaous about my port and a bit sore, but this passed quickly and I can do yoga as I did before I was banded with no pain or complications. I would start slowly and enjoy!

yoga-now my port hurts (sore) HELP

I do Yoga-Pilates - just 2 hours per week. I went back into it VERY slowly, or should I say carefully. Yes, I did get a little sore when I started, the first week was quite sore. The area felt quite warm too until the next day. I took it really easy the next week and its been fine ever since. I finally got to start on my weights/treadmill (nothing too drastic LOL) and the first day my port was really, pinchy and sore, but this settled very quickly too. I think perhaps both times I just needed to stretch into it and it was a shock to my system!
  20. I had sinus surgery in December and went many hours without eating before the surgery. I thought I'd be starving, but I wasn't. I guess my body had better things to worry about! From what my doctor tells me, you won't be hungry for a while after this surgery. My pre-op diet includes real food, just small quantities of it. I'm so thankful for that! My doctor requires me to stay on a liquid diet for two weeks after the surgery. Then it's two weeks of mushy liquids. I didn't like the chicken-flavored unjury either. Bleh! The unflavored stuff is decent with some Crystal Light.

    Also need "at goal' mentor!

I still struggle with how often to weigh. I should probably only weigh once a week, because there's so much fluctuation from day to day. And during the weight loss phase, weighing more often can be depressing. On the other hand, if we see a weight loss from one day to the next, it might give us liberty to have "just one more bite" that we don't really need. I think once I get to my goal, I'll probably weigh more often to head off any slight gains. Jan

    Surgery day

Good or you. Keep up the great work. I had a hard time last week when my regular schedule was changed. I know I shoveled but missing the gym and not eating right really took me back. Have job ever had ones of those week? If so how did you deal with it?

    Firecrackers...how we doing?

Hey Tracy! I think a lot of people have stalls, and then there are a few of us that just keep on trucking. I am super glad I am in the latter group, except, I'm having skin issues already, and I still have 80 pounds to goal. I started out at 310, and hit 250 on Saturday! I'm thrilled with my weight loss, but not so much about the loose skin. Keep your chin up, you're doing great!!!
  25. I'm so excited and nervous! Walking into my appointment today, I almost turned around! I was so nervous of the "what if's".... What if I'm too big for surgery... what if he thinks I'm not a good fit for the surgery I want... what if he looks at me and tells me I'm not trying hard enough with other options (my mom's suggestion: "Why don't you exhaust all of your other options first honey!") What if he likes everything and first surgery date avalible is in December... what if!!! Thankfully my husband was by my side and I'm too chicken to tell him "lets turn around and hide!" What if nothing! ***Happy "I'm getting surgery" dance!!!!**** (never thought I would be happy about going into surgery willingly! needles *cringe*) He approved me for surgery, he said two weeks of shakes/ less than 1,000 calories a day and surgery on June 13th!!! Bonus: Work is good with the days off, kids are going to hang with my mom and my honey is going to be by my side (he is my rock!) On a side note: The girls in my office are always having some sort of weight loss something going on... I think the current thing is $5 to weigh in each week for 6 weeks and at the end the "biggest loser" gets the "pot". They have always invited me to join in, but at twice their weight I've never been interested in everyone knowing my actual weight. Today they told me they didn't want me to join... that they all knew they would lose!! (this actually makes me happy!) Happy Tuesday everyone!
