Orlando/winter Garden Fl support groups
Lynnlovesthebeach replied to BRYCE86's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
The ORMC Bariatric Practice has a support group on the third Tuesday of every month at 6 pm in the same place where you went to your initial seminar. Good luck with your surgery tomorrow. Today is my first day to start soft foods. So far, not interested in anything! -
You know Sisters (and a Brother or 2) I'm a little apprehensive, when I get,a clean bill of health, and it has not happened yet, am I going to carefree eat? I have had so many puke-ups, fearful to try? And am I going to have to consult a bariatric psych to keep away an anorexic leaning? I had tried so hard, had things popping up and out my mouth, can I relax and keep it down? I know the SMH people are peeved when a poster says HELP but I do sincerely, mean it HELP!

In my first few weeks, I took Milk of Magnesia to get things moving. Since that time, I regularly take a fiber supplement and that seems to keep me regular, but if I find that my body needs a little help, I just take a bisacodyl (dulcolax). I've tried the smooth move tea and it's quite effective. However, I hate the taste and it makes the BM smell (really bad). *As this is my 2nd time around with bariatric surgery, I used Miralax a lot when I was banded and it helped, but I haven't really needed it much with the sleeve.

Here's a bariatric-friendly recipe you could try at home! One of the things I've been really proactive about doing while I'm still on liquids is trying to find recipes NOW that mimic foods I used to have but are healthier swaps. These are things that my whole family could enjoy in their portion size but at the same time allow me to eat without fear of weight gain. There's lots of great books and websites out there! Spend an hour or two just browsing google and amazon and you're sure to find some awesome stuff.

I dragged some friends out on a walk with me today. Then we went to a coffee shop. (I know this doesn't solve the "bars aren't fun" problem, which I'll get to in a moment, but it is a suggestion about how to get in some socializing on your own terms.) I haven't been to a restaurant or a party-party, yet; there's been food at a couple of places I've gone, but it hasn't really been hard to avoid, yet. I'm hoping maybe I can hold off on any event that's too food-heavy until, if there's something I really want to eat, I can have a bite of it without endangering my healing stomach. (I am not going to be one of those hardcore diet deprivation folks you see on here. Not judging them--if anything, I'm impressed by their fortitude--but just being realistic about myself. "I can have exactly one bite of the very tasty thing, and I will enjoy the crap out of that bite" is just a better way for me, personally, to live my life.) Also, raw veggies are the one really healthy thing you can generally rely on finding at parties, and I know those are a ways off for us, yet. Failing the "delay" plan, though, I would probably be inclined to bring something I can have, that others might also like. BananaTummy suggests that her Mandarin Greek Yogurt is a hit at parties: http://www.bananatummy.com/2011/04/greek-yogurt-mandarin-yogurt-sweet/ And I can imagine that this custard would also be a hit (when I used part Splenda, part xylitol, nobody could tell it wasn't sugar): https://www.bariatriceating.com/2015/04/egg-custard-perfect-bariatric-food/ Hummus, which I am absolutely enough of a barbarian to put on my plate and eat with a spoon

I have a question for those who have had Bariatric Surgery. How is your health compared to what it was before? I know many people have major health concern before surgery and they are cleared up once the weight is lost. But has anyone’s health declined? Do you catch the “common cold” more often? Are you on different medications? I’m very curious about this, I’ve heard conflicting arguments.

I just received my order yesterday and I'm going to start using these vitamin patches today. I got the Bariatric Pack with the multi, D3 and B12. Plus I also got Glucosamine/Condroitin for my knees. Here's my question........ I was looking on the back of the multi vitamin pack and noticed that you get over 100% of your D3 and B12 within this vitamin alone. So is it really necessary to take an extra D3 & B12? I don't know what my levels look like as of yet. I have a physical in January where the DR told me he'll do a full lab on me. I was just curious if I could get away with buying just the multi next month. Plus, for those who use the glucosamine/condroitin patch, how do you feel it works? And exactly what have you felt a difference on, if anything?

Slipping back to old habits - scared
MarinaGirl replied to amandalp1021's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Pouch reset is a fad diet; crash diets never work and is not the right approach post-WLS. Instead, work with a therapist to resolve your head issues, then focus on the bariatric “rules;” dense protein first followed by non-starchy vegetables, use a scale to measure portions, don’t drink during meals or 30 mins afterwards, track what you eat with a food journal or an app like MyFitnessPal, drink a minimum of 64 oz of water a day, cut out processed food & junk, no alcohol, etc. -
Sleeved on 8/22. Down 44lbs. Been stalled for two weeks due to getting sick and eating what made me feel better. Mainly saltines. Back to eating what im supposed to again but I feel like I'm eating too much but when I track it it feels like almost nothing. Still don't feel like reaching my goal could actually happen. Like this is all a dream and I'm kidding myself if I will ever get under 200lbs. Anyone else ever feel like this? What happened to you? Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Dr Vuong seminars, who has been, what are they about?

Oy Vey! A former Bariatric surgeon pushing HGH. What has this world come to?! I am not sure why someone would take his advice.... -
It has been 10 days since my ESG, I have lost about 5 kilos (11lb) since then. The centimetres are also dropping off. I am on a free liquids diet until 11/11 and then a pureed food week followed by a week of soft foods. There was a couple of days where I seemed to be lacking energy, all good now though. Other than the initial cramping it hasn't been painful at all, I am still on a nexium a day for another couple of weeks, so far no acid reflux. My skin is even looking better as I haven't been eating all the crap food I use to. I had my follow up with the doctor on Tuesday, all good, he wants 4 hours a week cardio until my appointment with the exercise physiologist, where weights/resistance training will commence. My doctor works of body composition rather than the scales. My post procedure support program includes 4 appointments each with a dietician, exercise physiologist and behavioural pyschologist along with unlimited support from a bariatric physician, formally there are eight appointments with the bariatric physician. I have yet to have a bowel movement, I am slowing upping the levels of treatment for that, started off with the lowest does and working my way up until output

I love all of these posts... just read through the whole novel and, although I'm still a newbie, I completely agree with all of it! For me, before I ever even visited my surgeon, I did a TON of research. And then while I was going through the pre-op I continued my education. I would never have had this surgery by relying only on what my doctor told me. No matter how educated he is, he doesn't know everything, everyone is different, there are infinite ways my journey could go, and it was best to be as prepared as possible. I've read medical papers, joined numerous forums, visited every bariatric website that I could, watched so many YouTube videos about not just the surgery but also various posters in different parts of their journeys. The information from my surgeon was just a small piece of the puzzle. So, although I don't have the time under me the rest of you do, I find it just as annoying when I read some of the questions people post. I can't believe so many followed through on such a life-changing surgery without the knowledge to help carry them over the finish line. Knowledge equals success, and I want to be successful. You guys are all wonderful and give me quite a few chuckles throughout my days. And I know when I have any questions you'll all be there to help guide me. Thank you!

I’m 8 days post-op. If you are like me the thought of another protein shake makes you gag, try it warm. My doctor required us to use the Bariatric Advg. I warmed about 9 ounces of unsweetened vanilla almond milk and added the chocolate shake powder. I could almost convince myself that it was hot chocolate. I thinking drinking it hot may get me through the next 6 days until I reach purées.

so I have tried the ensure high protein chocolate, it is pretty good, I just got my priemer protein shakes to try, but it doesn't look like you are required to do the meal replacement shake pre surgery so I think you are able to move on to the post surgery type shakes that are not meal replacements, like unjury and protein water? As far as vitamins are concerned all depends on your levels for example I will have to take extra vitamin d right off the bat... but I will tell you they told us as a general rule and for the beginning we could do a flinestone, and then when we move on they suggested opurity orange berry bariatric sleeve multivitamin and then take our remaining calcium and iron if needed. I just ordered mine 90 day supply was 29.00 so not awful I thought.

I am having trouble finding many items in the bariatricpal store that does not have whey in it. Anyone here familiar with any products on there that are whey-free? I've clicked through a bunch with no luck, except for the sloppy joes.

Dr Vuong seminars, who has been, what are they about?

I used to follow him on YouTube but he started moving away from bariatric related videos and started pushing what seems to be pyramid scams. He was a funny guy but he's changed directions lately with his product sales. -
Dr Vuong seminars, who has been, what are they about?
elcee replied to elcee's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thanks Alex. I had a feeling he may be a "failed" bariatric surgeon. I have a feeling that my friend may be wasting her money but I know that when your original procedure has not lived up to its promise that we tend to clutch at straws. Maybe she will get something helpful out of it. -
I am RNY for several reasons, severe reflux, HBP, sleep apnea, severe arthritis since 25, and I wanted the quickest way to lose weight. I decided the RNY would work best for me, did not want to throw away 3/4 of my stomach, so I have a turkey-egg stomach instead of one some have described a banana but my search leads me to believe a garden hose just wouldn't do me. My surgeon didn't even ask or sway my thinking. When I announced I wanted a bypass he said I was making a wise choice. Would he have tried talking me into a sleeve, doubt it, at 72 I didn't feel I had enough Life Time to revise later, so since I wanted the Gold Medal surgery, I chose the best, if they were issued medals he would wear a Big Gold one. Chief of Baraiatric Surgery and Metabolic Weight loss, full professor in College of Medicine, trained many now-successful Bariatric surgeon's in the MidWest and God only knows where else. But he also is a very nice person. My son and I are very close, my middle child, his older brother died at 31 suddenly in 2008, my Husband died 4th of July 6 years ago. So we still live together, I go to his appointments, he comes to mine. We always band together. Well at my presurgery meeting with my Dr Needleman, he did something that impressed me greatly. He came over, shook my son's hand said " I promise to take very good care of your Mother" he was sensitive to enough to reassure my 👦. And he has treated me wonderful. If I had become a doctor, which had always been my dream, I would have been happy to be even an 1/8th as good, as he was and is. And the blip in recovery I am experiencing? Couldn't have been, planned for but they know how to repair it. And I believe in them, and. that helps.

Dr Vuong seminars, who has been, what are they about?
Alex Brecher replied to elcee's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I know Dr. Vuong for over a decade. He is a very nice and entertaining guy who IMHO gives out so-so medical and surgical advice. He bounced around from practice to practice and has never been able to make it as a bariatric surgeon. -
Hiya Loos N it, never worry that you're the oldest on Bariatric Pal. I am 72 and far from thru! On September 5th I had my RNY bypass, started out healing fine, I st week stellar, 2 week I had a small blood vessel under skin broke and turned my entire stomach wall purple. Now I am 7 weeks out today, and have hit a bump in my road. Not a complete roadblock, I have a stoma stricture, can happen but not that frequently. It means I am still on a liquid diet. Friday I undergo a second EDJ, see we n9 l9bge4 can have a EGD, our duodenum is no longer, so what we really have is a. Esophageal- gastric- Jejunem endoscopy. Dr Noria my surgeon's partner does endoscopy for the practice. In the words of Duck Dynasty, endoscopy is her "bang zone"! While I am sleeping a peaceful medical slumber, she will go down and attempt for the second time to stretch the opening between my small gastric pouch and the second stage of my small intestine, the,Jejunem. Last time she discovered I have 5 new ulcers,2 within the pouch and the other 3 on the intestinal wall. So I have been on Carafate, an ulcer medicine every 6 hours, having been taking it,6am-noon-6pm- Midnight. This is on top of my other medicines. But I am following her orders. Have a feeling I will be doing this every 2 weeks into infinity. Oh but really I do wish not! But I am still glad for the surgery, I have lost a little more than 50 pounds since the end of July. No plain diet ever, did that forme and I have, heard of & done so many. Everybody wants an easy way out, losing weight is not easy. Worth it? Oh yes, I would never turn back to what i was, the future looks so much better.

Volume and calories consumed daily
Frustr8 replied to NYCNomad's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have been worried, so many bari-pals have them from their hospitals and Bariatric centers. I have not been able to believe Ohio State University- Wexner Medical did not have them. They do, it is on the other side of my assigned dieticians card. Says about the same as the others. The carrier of this card has had gastric surgery, and has a reduced intake of food. Please allow her to. order from a children, senior or a reduced portion size menu. Thank You. Ohio State university Bariatric Department. Have not eaten out since surgery; but now I Will Be Ready if the time ever comes!😛🍝🍵 -
