Scared To Step On The Scale!
mnbsleeve replied to Pammie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pammie, I know it's hard not be discouraged... while I don't recall the exact amount of weight I lost at that point I can tell you that I have had the LONGEST stalls!!! and most were early on, by the way. Some over 4 weeks. But, the weight DOES COME OFF! I have already lost close to 80 lbs.!!! Often after these stalls are followed by a steady weight loss. I know it's hard, but try not to be discouraged. I always focus on nutrition and doing what I need to do. Eventually you begin the downward trend. I think the body just needs to adjust! Hang in there kiddo!!!! -
When Did You Start To Eat "regular Food" Again??
Sojourner replied to hmd's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
As 2muchfun has posted, you really should not be going against the instructions of your surgeon. If you are newly banded, and already want to break the rules, what will your attitude be when you are 6 months or a year post op? Once you give yourself permission to cheat, it becomes progressively easier to do it again, and again. I call it the "slippery slope". Bandsters do cheat; but those who do, especially early on will likely diminish their motivation to remain diet compliant, and therefore perhaps compromise their success with weight loss. I'd definitely let your surgeon know how you are feeling, and follow their instructions. I may be possible that they would give permission to begin mushies or soft foods early. Definitely DO NOT use chewing gum...prohibited my surgeon, and not advised by others! I had to be on liquids for 2 weeks post op, then on mushies for a week, and soft foods for another week. By week 5, I was able to tolerate moist poultry, fish, overcooked broccoli and cauliflower, and well chewed strawberries and blueberries. -
Lap Band To Gastric Sleeve. Same Surgeon?
mary101678 replied to carbgrl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Everyone: I just saw my surgeon today regarding a revision from the band to the sleeve. I've had no issues with my band whatsoever, except that my weight loss has been extremely slow, only 28 lbs in one year! Not that I want those pounds back, but I expected better results after undergoing WLS! I've stuck to a diet, exercised and have been weighed by a nutritionist once every two-three weeks for a year! Interestingly, my surgeon did not hesitate for a second, and immediately brought me the consent forms for the revision! He also immediately arranged my endoscopy on the spot! I'll see him again once that is completed, and then on to the next step. So, yes, I would definitely use the same surgeon, he understands the issues involved and wants to see his patients succeed. I'm glad he was so helpful. Cheers... Mary -
I was told by my chinese herbalist to use a shampoo that has garlic and aloe vera. I have been using it and notice that harly no hair falls out now as it always did when I washed my hair. It leaves no odor either.
-
Yes, it can. I color my hair every 5 weeks. Just remember that it takes 3 months for it to work. By the end of the 3rd month, you will have stopped losing hair. By the end of the 4th month, you'll see a lot of new growth.

Gained 2 pounds since surgery :(
kbinaz replied to Kimberly Henson Edwards's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, try not to stress out about it! Remember you just had surgery - there are all kinds of wacky things going on with your body. I know it seems like a no brainer that if you are on liquids you should lose weight but that is rarely what happens. Try not to stress about the weight thing right now, concentrate on healing and doing what your doctor told you to do after surgery. That will be the best investment you can make in the future and then you will have success with weight loss. Everyone loses weight at different points of the journey and the only thing I can tell you for sure is that you WILL lose weight! Just maybe not one week after surgery! Hang in there! -
Anthem Blue Cross CA ..PPO
SuperblyInsane replied to sarahzamudio1091's topic in Insurance & Financing
I had this insurance last year and wished I had taken advantage of it when I had the chance! I have 3 friends who had surgery, one paid a total of $500 and the other 2 paid nothing at all. I'm not sure what the difference was in their policies though. I do know they had to do 6 months of physician supervised weight loss and meet specific BMIs (40 without co-morbidities I believe) -
What is realistic weight loss with the sleeve?
Zoumommy posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I ask bc my surgeon really didn't give me a goal number. She just said I would get to 225 with little effort. My primary are doc wants me to land in the 130s. I'm 5'6 and started at 314. I was sleeved on 2-3 and my goal is 137. How realistic is it for me to get to 137? I am cleared to start cardio on Monday (can't wait). Plz tell me what you have done to lose the weight?? -
When did you start your 6 month plan and when did it all get submitted to insurance? Insurance has denied me because they say there isn't 6 months of a documented weight loss plan. I went to my PCP in October of last year. She weighed me and we talked about diet/exercise along with getting my referral to a bariatric center in our area. I started going to them in November and have not missed a month. So, March should have been month 6, correct? I'm not sure if they just aren't counting the PCP one or if they count their months differently (October-November, November-December, December-January, January-February, February-March would only be 5?). If anyone has had this situation and had it resolved, I would love to hear from you! Although I will know the answer in a few days I can't help but ask!

9 Months, 8 Fills and No Restriction - Need Advice!
vlp1968 replied to gwins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have read on this forum that bands can hold more than what they are labeled as. I hope this is true and you can get another fill. It must be terribly frustrating. Good job on your weight loss! I hope restriction happens soon. -
One week buyers remorse
MichiganChic replied to ShannonbKSU's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's a pretty normal feeling, even for those who were best prepared and really understood what they signed up for. It's just such a sense of permanence, and there is no escaping it. It's odd to not be able to eat what and when you want. Pretty soon, though, you'll start to love it. You'll love the weight loss, the way you look and feel, and it will SO be worth it. I used to love that I would be full from a couple of bite. At two years out, I still have restriction, but it takes way more than a couple of bites to feel it! I sometimes wish I could get that feeling back! So, I guess that answers your question, you'll be able to eat again, and you'll have to really work at not overeating. -
My surgeon's group wanted us to reach 1200 calories a day as soon as we could. I did this at around 3-4 weeks out...eating 6 little 200 calorie "meals" a day. We were told to stay at 1200 during all of loss phase. I know this is VERY different advice than what many clinics give their clients. Some want people to stay below 1000 calories for a very long time to "take advantage of the window of loss". My doctors are part of a study addressing how extended periods of very low calorie diets may be corelated with rebound weight gain due to negative metabolic shift. They believe that for the best LONG TERM outcomes....eating calories closer to maintenance for healthy weight sooner...is better. I eat 1600 calories a day now, and have maintained the last two years with no weight gain. There will always be individual experiences and exceptions to every rule.
-
You've lost an average of over 12. 5 pounds a month, that's really good. Once you've lost weight it takes fewer calories to maintain your new lower weight, so it will take even fewer to continue to lose at the same old rate. It just doesn't usually work like we want it to. Most of us have periods where the weight loss slows down or stops for several weeks, it's just normal, as much as we all hate it to be. Now after all saying all that, you could do a day or two of liquids, that can jump start the scale.

Okay..so I got the surgery done June 9th....I have lost about 11lbs since then. I know weight loss is super slow but hey iths something. I have been doing zumba about 3-4 times a week, counting calories (about 1200 a day), and I have 8.3 in my band. I was wondering of someone would like to share their blog or food diary to see what I'm doing wrong. If i eat slow enough and take small bites, it can go eat with no problem and feel full faster...but not exactly feel full longer...what am I doing wrong??? Any type of help would be greatly appreciated. p.s. Has anyone gone through a slow weight loss but finally it's turned around?? I need some hope ....also has anyones Dr' prescribed any diet pills with Lapband?

I finally got a seminar in today. This is my 3rd try. Each time I went before they had changed the date and I did not know until I got there. My insurance requires that I do 6 months of WW(ect) while under the monthly care of my regular Dr. for weigh loss also. I started that about a week ago. So it will be awhile before I can have surgery. I also have to lose 10% of my body weight while on WW. I have tried many times to lose, even WW(weight watchers) but could only lose about 20 pounds then it would not move down anymore for nothing(weeks on end). So I know that this site is more for the lap band but what about the sleeve, anyone? The dr at the seminar says that he won't tell anyone which sugery to have but he made it seem like the sleeve was the better choice...he says is has less risk than the lap band and that he does about 35% lap band and 65% sleeve. He said that weigh loss was better with the sleeve. ......I am tore now as to which I might want to have done.

I am a bit skeptic about it, but honestly I will try anything. I was actually going to start doing the wraps now to see if I can tell any difference at all. I notice my skin moving all over now from exercising. I still have a long way to go on the weight loss, but hey I will fight this tooth and nail if I have to!!! Thanks for sharing

Weight loss before surgery

Weight loss before surgery
Ale Nunez replied to Frenchie1977's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I guess it depends, my insurance didn't require any weight loss but it did require I attempted to lose weight. My dr said that they have the 6 month requirement to increase your chances of being successful. I didn't lose any weight at all during the six months but have lost more than 15 lbs during my pre op liquid diet. Best of luck! -

You're gonna look horrible for a while...
samantha209 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
so yesterday I visited a friend. And she has always lacked a filter...sorta just says whatever comes to mind so she was like wow you're gonna look great....horrible for a little while, but eventually you'll be svelte and looking hot. so she goes on to say how her neighbor had WLS and he look horrible initially until he plateaued and then regained a little to normalize. So i retorted i'll never look horrible *flips hair* but It annoyed me. Because I know there will be naysayers and haters who will be whispering that i look horrible or lost too much weight etc. *sighs* -
At first, I didn't tell anyone. I thought it was a very personal issue. Now, there are some people I don't mind telling and others I will never tell (i.e., my ex husband). Most of the time if people comment on it, and especially if they have a weight problem and mention their struggles, I will share my band experience with them. But, when I wasn't telling people about it, I had no guilt over not telling them about my band. I just said I was on a new weight loss regime, which was true.

I was wondering if anyone ever feels the need to explain they've had surgery when someone comments on their weight loss. My neighbor has commented on my weight a few times as I've been losing and, for some reason, I feel I should tell him I've had the lap band surgery. I also feel that way about a woman that works in my office building. The other morning she complemented me on how good I looked and then said, "I wish I could lose just FIVE pounds. What are you doing?" I said thank you and told her that I stepped up my workouts (which I did with Smart Curves). But feel like I should explain that I've had the surgery. Not everyone in the building (about 50 people) knows I've had the surgery, just a handful. I don't really care who knows but don't necessarily want to come out and advertise it. Does anyone else feel awkward when someone makes numerous comments about their weight loss? Friend me on myfitnesspal.com and you will be able to see my diary, although I will say I have been very fortunate on the weight loss side, not slow at all.

I am sending positive thoughts and prayers that you get the positive response today that you are looking for. You don't have to have a band to be a part of this group. We have all sorts of folks here that just want to be supportive of others going through weight loss issues. The pre-requiste testing and waiting for approval, in my humble opinion, is more difficult than the actual surgery and recovery, it was for me at least. Sounds like you have already jumped through the hoops, but sometimes they try and throw up road blocks to discourage you, don't let them. This is your life and you are the one who knows what's best for you. Please, let us know as soon as you hear anything, good or bad, we are all here for you. Cindy
