Vegetables after weight loss surgery
BLERDgirl replied to Shannon Piper's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My typical base is either Isopure unflavored whey or on occasion CVS vanilla whey with sunfiber plus half to whole cup of Fage 0% Greek yogurt. I then add fruit, cacao powder or nut butter to taste. I almost always use water to mix and loads of ice. I drink half before my 9am water aerobics class & half after. I end up with 30 - 40 gms of protein before noon. -

SalvoStrike replied to Ashbash88's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I also had a bypass surgery a few weeks ago, and it started with soups and protein shakes. I understand your desire to get back to an active life, especially if you were into sports. I'm also looking forward to when I can resume physical activity. As for satisfying and filling meals, I've found that braised vegetables with chicken breast and quinoa can be a tasty and healthy choice. Additionally, fruits, low-fat yogurts, and vegetable omelets are good for variety. The key is to watch portion sizes and follow your doctor's recommendations. -
Need bariatric vitamin suggestions- HELP NEEDED
heidikat72 replied to Browneyedgirl41's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I take two Centrum adult complete chewable Multivitamins a day (one when i get up and one before i go to bed) - they are orange flavored ( kind of like the old chewable baby aspirin but much much bigger) I prefer the Bariatric Advantage Calcium chews over the Celebrate ones - the celebrate ones are ok but a little more gritty in texture than the BA ones. The BA strawberry is good and they have a coconut now, the chocolate ones taste a little like a tootsie roll. These also contain Vitamin D so you might not need an additional Vitamin D supplement. My plan recommends getting 1200-1500mg calcium per day. I was taking 3 chews a day but realized I was getting enough calcium from my food (yogurt, skim milk etc) that I could cut back to 2 chews a day. For B12, I take a sublingual 1000mcg every other day. I think the one I have is nature made found in pretty much any pharmacy. My 3 month labs looked great! -
Chinese - hot & sour soup, moo goo gai pan, beijing chicken. Mexican - Beans, especially thinned with salsa juice or sour cream. Chipotle bol with no rice (lasts for several meals). McDonald's - the only thing I ever eat from that place is the fruit & yogurt parfait. If I have need to go there post-op I'll pass the fruits to DH and just eat the lowfat vanilla yogurt. Schlotzsky's - they have awesome Soups, and good pizzas. I used to get their thai chicken pizza, eat the toppings off and then pick at the very top (saucy) part of the crust. Chipotle and Schlotzsky's are really the only fast food places I'll eat at, I enjoy cooking too much (and knowing what's in my food).

Webchickadee, How are you measuring your calories? I use a scale for accuracy for most foods. If you are eyeballing or packing in a measuring cup, your calorie count may be off. Also, if you eat out a lot and are using the restaurant guide, you may be getting more calories than you think. For me, I find hunger increases when I eat any kind of non-nutrient dense foods. For example, last night I ate dinner and then had a muffin later. Before the muffin, I wasn't really hungry, but after I ate the one muffin, I really wanted another and my tummy was rumbling for it like a dump truck. The only thing that got me out of a stall was reducing calories. I know that others have found success in increasing calories, but that has never worked for me. I recommend dropping your calories to 1200 per day. To avoid hunger, make them really nutrient-dense. Low fat meats, fat free greek yogurt and milk, whole grains, and fresh or frozen vegetables and fruits. Lynda

Satiety foods for post goal hunger?
Supersweetums replied to Fiddleman's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I buy almonds that are already sliced for me (you can usually buy slivered or sliced almonds in the baking aisle or bulk food store). The slivered ones tend to brown quickly, so I prefer the sliced. It does not slide for me, I find it very filling ( I also mix with yogurt as well). It keeps me full usually all morning! -
sleeve surgery 11 months ago. no more running to the bathroom. (in all fairness, it only happened in the morning the last 7 years or so). i have struggled with constipation. as long as i take my konjac root (a fiber supplement), eat oatmeal couple times a week, dried fruit, yogurt, stay hydrated i am good. still happens 2-3 times a month usually.

I was banded on 2/26. Thank you to everyone for posting your experiences. The gas and burping, I was told, is a side effect from the surgery. I found a comfortable position to sleep in and have not been doing too bad. I eat sugar free popsicles, yogurt, pudding, and broth, plus decaf green tea, Water and decaf coffee. It feels like someone kicked me in the stomach. But I did get my period this morning, which sucks, but I will deal with it. I am, as I am sure you guys are, looking forward to getting back to normal. Melanie PS, weight gain is just the gas they put in you for the surgery...

OK - That's IT! I am STILL not losing!
rcarter76 replied to rcarter76's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I keep my carbs under about 60-80 and my nutritionist said not to worry if the carbs come from things with Protein like cheese, yogurt, refried Beans etc. So I am not sure what it is, but I haven't heard from ANYONE else that they have hit a plateau like this... It is hard not to get depressed. Thanks for the response girl! -

I ate pretty regularly. I was just really label conscious. It will work for you, and everyone's body is different. Also, my sleeve is shorter than most patients since they had to remove more tissue during my leak repair. Your sleeve may be a bit bigger than mine, or your body may be adjusting differently. Some days, I can take more food in, but I think a lot of my issues go back to having to eat so slowly, and chewing excessively. I still don't have hunger, and if we go out to eat, my husband and son, know that we'll be at the restaraunt for at least an hour. I have trained myself to eat super slow. It's a habit now. If I take my time, I can eat more at one sitting. I relied on greek yogurt and laughing cow cheese. When I got to soft solids, I ate deli meat with laughing cow. I did have a couple of weeks where mashed potatoes were my staple. But, I only ate about 2 oz of them. They were super filling. I would say that 90% of the time I stayed below 30 grams of a carbs a day. Some day, I would have a few more, but I never got over 50 carbs a day. It was just a rule I followed within my surgeon's and nutritionist post-op diet. Now, I'm getting in more carbs because I'm trying to maintain. -

What are your plans this weekend? My plans this weekend are hanging out with Vegas Angel Bearded Italian and Ruthi. We went to downtown Las Vegas last night and that was a real eye opener. It was a lot of fun. There was music playing and a dome over the whole area with Woodstock music playing and a moving video of scenes from Woodstock. It was really cool. This afternoon Vegas Angel Ruthi and I went shopping. We found the Fage yogurt at Trader Joes which I am anxious to try. I wish I had a Trader Joes. I also bought a scale at Jennie Craig and I am having it shipped home. Tonight we are going to see a show and to the Strip. That should be a lot of fun. Tomorrow I have to fly home. 2) What's your favorite movie and why? My favorite movie is Forest Gump. I don't know why I love that movie so much, other than it spans the entire time of when I grew up. 3) How many states have you visited? Lived in? Your favorite? I have visited so many states I couldn't list them all. When I was 17 my parents dragged me around on this trip across the United States with their RV from Chicago to California all the way back to New Orleans. The only states we missed were the Northeastern ones. I was a teenager who missed my bf at the time, and was not pleasant to be around at the time. The only states I have lived in are Oregon and Illinois. I would love to live in San Diego because I think the weather is perfect there. That will never happen though, because I know how expensive it is to live there. I do like Oregon better than living in Chicago, although I miss Lake Michigan a lot. It's like a big nice warm ocean. The ocean in Oregon is freezing cold and pretty to look at but not much good to play in.

My poor experience with A Lighter Me
dawndenise posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
So yesterday I wrote that I was happy with my decision. Today...not so much. I am at the Marriott where I've been since yesterday morning. Like everyone else who's had the surgery, I left Mi Doctor Hospital with a drainage tube. The staff at the hospital did not change the dressing, so I awoke from a nap yesterday to find that I had bled through the bandages and soiled my clothes, the sheets, the comforter, and a couple of the pillows. I immediately contacted the driver, Abraham, who told me this was normal (I highly doubt it) and that someone would be there later to remove the drain. He also told me to change the dressing myself. I attempted to do that with the thin gauze they had given me, but I promptly bled right through that within the hour. I spent the rest of the evening with a hand towel pressed against the wound. By this morning, that too was soaked. When I awoke this morning, I promptly called both Abraham and Janese Pitcher, the Patient Coordinator. Abraham promised to be in touch with someone and call me back within 15 minutes. After an hour had passed, I called him back and got the same story. In the interim, I placed two telephone calls to Janese on both her mobile and work telephones but I never heard back from her. As of this writing (12:22pm) no one from A Lighter Me has followed up with instructions, questions, concerns, or anything about the issue. I am both shocked and appalled at this, considering that prior to the surgery (I.e, before I paid the balance), I could get ahold of Janese at the drop of a dime. Rather than take a taxi back to the hospital (which is what I was planning to do, I took a taxi (with some new friends who were also here to be sleeved) to Walmart and got some new gauze, bandages, and Mexican neosporin. Who knows when this drain will be taken out? I just want it to be clean and sanitary while it's in. If there is a silver lining to this story, my new friends and I stopped at Yogurt Bling (think Pinkberry) after we left Walmart. I got the tiniest bit of frozen yogurt, which I was unable to finish. So this sleeve thing is actually working!! -
No snacking for me. Solid meals and meal times as instructed by me team (thank goodness) because the further out I get the more relaxed my restriction is so i can easily eat more than required. But yogurt with granola or a protein bar as a meal.

Hello restriction! You are back my old friend! Since my re-fill on Friday I have played it pretty safe with yogurt, oatmeal, tomotoe bisque ....... I had a couple reduced fat wheat thins with cheese earlier today. Tonight I heated up some chili (my old stand-by protein food) and didn't even eat as much as I thought would be a serving. I got that full signal and took one more bite of maybe 2 beans. My nose started running and I had a sneeze attack. That is my you-took-one-bite-too-many signal. -
What are you guys eating?

I'm 6 days out and am on essentially full liquids: Protein shakes, tomato Soup, broth, smooth yogurt, Water, are my staples. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
One great idea I got from another post many weeks ago was 1/2c canned pumpkin (not pie filling but pure pumpkin) 1c almond milk, 1 scoop vanilla Protein powder, a dash of pumpkin pie spice , 1 tsp sugar free caramel davinci syrup. I blend all together the night before and it "sets" in the fridge and can eat with a spoon. Delish!! Nutritional value - 28 grams protein, 3 grams fat, 13 grams carbs - 210 calories. Keeps me satisfied for easily 5 hours. Another thing I'll try is 1/2c yogurt or fat free cottage with 1 scoop unflavored soy protein mixed in. Also very satisfying. 20gms protein in soy powder and additional protein in cottage cheese but not so much in yogurt. I have a hard time finding the greek hi protein yogurt that everyone seems to love. You could even mix in a 1/8th or 1/4 cup of Kashi Go Lean Cereal for a bit more protein but additional carbs. These are usually quick and convenient for leaving the house by 6:30 am, and are options for something other than just having a shake everyday. I like to mix things up. Good luck!!

Healthy Choice makes a Greek frozen yogurt in 100 calorie single serve cups.

I just had to call my nutritionist because of the same thing! Its totally normal. The reason you can eat what feels like 'too much' is because you have an empty band.Once you get your fill, that'll subside. If its too tempting to eat more than you should, sub in a heavy duty protein shake (add yogurt, fruit, ice, etc so it feels substantial). Good work on the 20 that you're down!

Eating anything hard is a task. I tried stew chicken and threw all night. I can stick with shakes, smoothies, yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna &chicken salad. My husband jokes that I eat like bird. It sometimes frustrating to have to eat so slow. But I know I can safely tolerate ONLY 2 .oz of solid tilipia.any suggestions I'm like 7 weeks out. -
Anyone have gastric sleeve years after having your band removed?
EagerPenguin replied to kyotosong's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That is great! It shows dedication to a healthier lifestyle. It'll be good to have a tool (the sleeve) to help keep that off. Your appetite may or may not decrease after sleeve surgery. Mine is still there, but I've read of other who aren't hungry at all for up to a year. I've read that you can expect to lose about 60% of your excess weight with the sleeve, but some have lost more and actually achieved a normal BMI. I've been having some trouble with the diet; I didn't expect it to be this difficult to tolerate. I'm so sick of liquids, of protein shakes, and now of pureed textures. I want something crunchy, a cucumber with greek yogurt ranch dip perhaps. I'll get to regular foods eventually, but the wait is a lot longer in my mind than I was expecting. My weight loss has also been slow so far. I was sleeved on 12/7/17 and have lost about 12 pounds since then, which seems low. I suspect it's due to my medications, because there's no way it's due to excessive caloric intake. And it turns out that the timing is harder than I anticipated. Having the surgery before the holidays has been really hard. I was having a little bit of regret at first, when I was more bummed out about these issues, but I don't regret the surgery at all. I think it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. I totally feel a difference from the band. I had a more difficult recovery with the sleeve than the band (a week of mild nausea, stomach cramps), and as I wrote about above, the inital diet is typically long and in my opinion sucks, but it'll be worth it. So far, instead of my food getting stuck at the top of my stomach, it slowly makes its way to the bottom until I feel satisfied. You still have to eat slowly, and take small bites and chew chew chew, but I've not had any regurgitation, "stuck" foods, or "slime-ing", even now that I've started puree. Also, NOT HAVING A PORT. That's glorious. I hated the thing. It flipped on me shortly after placement, so I had to have another surgery to fix it, the fills were painful, and it was plain uncomfortable under my skin. The sleeve is like night and day from the band. It's becoming very common to revise from the band to sleeve. Best wishes as you make your decision.
