Can't get out of my own head!
mimigal replied to mimigal's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had surgery 3/31/14 and I've lost 54 pounds. It's funny cause it's the same thing I would go through on weight watchers (I'm a lifetime member!) I would get frustrated and give up (when I was younger I lost 90lbs on WW but gained it back plus after my 15 year old son was born). I can feel those defeated feeling creeping in but I'm not sure why! I am doing OK. Like I said...my mind is my worst enemy!! I need to be more involved in these message boards to feel a part of this community. I think that will help. Thanks for posting! -
Fresh is always better but if you are into the frozen meal, try lean cuisine or weight watchers.

What a difference 6 months makes
jhclikesshopping@gmail.com posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
So last year at this time I was meeting with my PCP to talk about options. I had another trip to the ER thanks to my asthma and allergies. After the meeting, set up my first appointment with the surgeon. Needed to wait the 6 months and lose weight. I was glad for this requirement and I think it has helped me in my success. Now here I am 1 year from my surgeon meeting and 6 months from my surgery. Down a total of 108.5 pounds as of this morning. Not at goal but getting closer each day/ week. I do not regret my decision and know its going to get easier. The first 6 months have been hard, but I would not change it for anything. I have never felt better in my life. Post op Diet! What do you eat now?
pamelardz91 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello! So I got sleeved on January 13th. I am currently 26lbs down (yay!) Anyways, my sister got sleeved about a year ago and now eats everything! Like I'm saying she eats pizza, coke, chips everything that she ate before (in smaller portions of course) she weighed 187 and now weighs 137. She only followed the diet for 3 months before started eating everything. She is still loosing weight. I guess my question is when did you start eating everything and have you gained any weight because of it? How long have you had the sleeve surgery? And how long should we follow the diet for before beginning to eat other things? -
All I can say is that bras suck. I thought that losing weight would make me want to wear cute clothes and a good bra is very important when you aren't wearing baggy clothes. I am at goal and I still hate bras just as much. I am not very large chested, and I have never found one that I can actually say is comfortable.

Target Amount of Protein
Jachut replied to clayverde's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was never really told a goal but when I asked because I'd seen so much about it on here, I was told 40 to 50 grams is ample. Furthermore, I was told by my doctor that that formula is supposed to be based on your IDEAL body weight not your current, because your current body weight includes an awful lot of metabolically inactive fat. -
Target Amount of Protein
Guest replied to clayverde's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
According to my doctor, yes, this is the formula for calculating the amount of daily protein intake based on body weight. The larger/more you weigh, the more protein you need. -
Ever since I can remember I was fat. Childhood wasn't the easiest and going into my teens was a nightmare. I remember one of the girls in 8th grade asking me if I could fit through doors. When I got out of high school I didn't think to much of my weight. I would only do things that made me stay out of the spotlight. I got married and then divorced and in many other mentally abusive relationships. In my mind I thought I didn't deserve anything better because I was ashamed of myself. After my mother died in 2008 of congestive heart disease it made me realize that I could die of that. I began the weight loss journey for a few years.I would lose 20-30lbs,exercise,etc. If I didn't see movement on the scales it would discourage me and gained all the weight back and more. My highest weight was 380lbs. Last year I decided to look into gastric bypass surgery and see if my insurance could help me. I was sure I wanted to do this, always knew about it but never confident in myself to go through the process. October of 2015 I took the first step and had everything completed on my end. My surgery was last Tuesday January 12,2016. I do say the pain has sucked but I'm looking forward to this journey ahead of me. ☺

Weight loss question.....
CowgirlJane replied to Nell009's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know what the options program is, but I lost half my body weight and have been maintaining a normal size/weight for a few years. -
You probably will not like this answer but stalls are normal. I would first make sure your eating and exercise habits have not changed. If they are the same then you body is just in a adjustment time. I have had several stalls. Some short and some as long as 1 1/2 months. The longest one was just recent and I had lost a lot of weight....I knew my body was adjusting. That being said I always lose inches during a stall on the scale. Try not to panic the scale will move again. Best Wishes to you...

I think you are going to be fine. Your body's schedule for losing weight does not match what you have in mind. All you can do is exercise more and keep your calories under 900 a day. Your body has to finally give in at some point. I've been through a couple of small stalls. They can really be discouraging, but they seem to end after 2-3 weeks. I have found that they are most likely to happen when I'm doing the same thing for several days like same food, same workout.

I'm not currently doing the online thing (have in the past with mixed results) but I have wondered about this too. How do you open that convo up about WLS? How do you make a total stranger understand the metamorphosis that is taking place? Im still just getting started with a long road ahead of me. Part of me would really like to find someone to walk with me through all this someone who could like me big or small, and another part of me would rather wait and seek out a partner after the weight loss process is done and its just about maintaining. I don't know what's right lol. I don't really have anything helpful to add to the original posters question, just that I'm rowing along in a similar boat and wish you the best. Good luck to all us singles!

Excess skin
capecoralgrandma replied to Brandi7011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Brandi, The only thing I remember about tightening skin was from Weight Watchers that drinking skim milk would keep skin from getting flabby...hope that helps. Betty -
Alisa, congratulations, 10 lbs. is a great loss. My doctor told me at my 1 week check up not to worry about losing weight, but not to gain any, and 4 weeks later when I went back for my fill I was down another 11 lbs. I didn't get a fill because I had lost the amount of weight one is supposed to lose if the band is tight. I was only on a clear liquid for a week after my surgery. The second week I was on pureed foods, the third week was a soft food diet and I started back on solid food my 4th week. So far I have not been hungry. I get to have a shake for Breakfast, mid-morning snack, Protein and veggie or fruit for lunch and dinner, an afternoon and evening snack. I seem to be eating all the time, but just small portions.I got to start back to the gym this morning and am walking also. I feel great, and I am already off of 1 of my high blood pressure meds. Hang in there and keep us posted.

Hitting my first plateau :(.
2muchfun replied to finallytime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First, losing weight is different from losing fat. Don't think that losing weight is a linear path to being skinny. It just doesn't work that way. Our body weight consists of many parts. Bones, muscle, fat, organs and skin just to mention a few. I can eat a high carb, high sodium meal and gain 5lbs in one day. But it's not fat, it's my body retaining fluids. I can also workout every day, eat only 1200 calories a day. I might lose 2 lbs of fat but I also may have created and built up 2 lbs of muscle and an extra 2 lbs of fluids that my body demands to help repair the damage I've done by breaking down my muscle tissues. If you are into measuring your body, you will notice it shrinking in size but possibly not see it on the scale? tmf -
Hitting my first plateau :(.
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to finallytime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Plateaus are a normal part of weight loss and so are minor weight fluctuations. You have to remember, your body isn't a machine. It needs time to adjust to major changes and weight loss is one. It's not uncommon at all for plateaus to last weeks- sometimes even months. It's frustrating, I know I've been there, but it's all part of the process. If you keep doing what you're doing your weight loss will pick up again. As far as a fill, talk to your doctor to be sure. But typically speaking a plateau isn't reason to have a fill. The fills are to control and dim your hunger. If you feel your hunger isn't controlled as well then maybe you do need one. But if it's just because of the plateau? A fill won't help. Best wishes. -
Surgery on Wednesday...nervous but ready
YOLOTEXAS posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am excited and nervous, but looking forward to the future. I know the first few days probably will not be fun. I will be so happy to start dropping some of this weight. I don't want to tell to many people yet because I am a very private person. I just want time to adjust with out everyone watching everything I do. Once I get comfortable with things I will share it with everyone, and maybe others can benefit from the information. -
Ugh I'm going thru this right now! I lost 14lbs before submitting to insurance and getting my date of Oct. 5th for surgery. After that last weigh in, I started "cheating," or allowing myself to eat foods that I really won't ever eat again, because they are unhealthy. So far in the last 2 weeks, I have had pizza, Chinese, a turkey hoagie, and threw my daughter a 1st birthday party and indulged. Well, now I am up 5lbs!!! I'm feeling really low about it, but I know that I'm starting my pre-op liquid diet soon, and I'll lose that weight again in no time. I guess it's really my last hoorah. ???? pathetic, I know.

2 years post op, not doing well :( sleeve redo/duromine?
able2cope replied to miss_lovesfood's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sorry, I read it as lbs, not Kgs... No, I agree - diet pills are not the way to go... I'm 3 years out today and have put on 14lbs since my lowest weight - I'm not a happy cookie with this either. Trying to get back onto a good (no bad snacking) plan -

taylokat replied to miss_lovesfood's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 2 1/2 years post op and I gained 30 lbs this past year. Due to life circumstances I fell off track. (Mom diagnosed with cancer. She has good days and bad days so I take it one day at a time) I have been trying to get back on track and I have trouble exercising due to low hemoglobin levels I get too tired. I'm thinking about trying Qsymia, a prescription weight loss pill just to help get me jump started. I know people that have lost 20-30 lbs with it and feel great. -

Hi everyone I'm new to this forum, I'm 22 and have a beautiful 7 month old.. Not long after getting pregnant and realising my appetite had increased i started putting weight on.. So I started at 165kg, got to 102, got pregnant and I'm 125kg now has anyone had the sleeve redo, OR tried duromine? -
So it's that time of year where we get poked a lil harder for that weekly insurance premium because our insurance blows and we have to pay more and more each year. My question is, does anyone know of an individual plan with any insurance company that covers lapband. Sad to say, that is my goal to find an Insurance company that covers it and then I can drop my insurance at work! $62.00 a week for insurance is a little steep for not covering weight loss and after months of emailing back and forth to see if they would add the policy, they say no because it will cause our premiums to go higher....HELLOOOO!?!? Any guidance in the direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Ronda

Do you allow yourself any healthy splurges?
AvaFern replied to Swampdoggie's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Every once in a while I eat baked Tostitos with the white cheese dip that comes in a jar. It's pretty much the only cheese that doesn't make me throw up, so while it's a guilty little pleasure and I only have it occasionally, it is one I enjoy. Every couple of months or so I get a cakepop from Starbucks or one of their blueberry muffins and at Christmas I eat chocolate and Cookies, which I don't do the rest of the year. I'd say I eat what I'm supposed to about 85% of the time, watch my weight and my calories, and then really enjoy a few bites of the good stuff when I want it. Fortunately now I want it every few weeks or so as opposed to everyday, so that has been helpful! -
Newbie! (Or is it NOOB?)
The Candidate replied to talkingmountain's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sounds like you will be having a Merry Christmas indeed! I'm three months out from my RNY and have lost 45 pounds since surgery. Nearly 80 overall. I couldn't be happier and have zero regrets! Many go on to lose over 100% of their excess weight, so don't get bogged down by averages. A lot of it has to do with how much work you put into it as both a pre op and a post op. Best of luck to you and welcome!
