  1. I had Gastric Bypass March 25th, so about 6 days ago. I am very frustrated, I have been having some weird post op experiences I never expected to deal with. 1. Bad constipation 2. Feeling incoherent at times, even being slightly combative 3. Feeling frustrated if not down right disappointed with myself. So first I have had extremly bad constipation. I still havent had a full bowl movement, today, tuesday 3/30 I sent my husband to buy milk of magnesia to help. It has helped a little so hopefully things will get better the rest of this week. Secondly is anyone else incoherent and even combative at times? It only happens when I am waking up from a nap. After exercise or activity I get really tired and almost feel like i am in a fog so I take a nap. My husband wakes me up every hour to 2 hours to get me to drink some water. When he does I am really out of it like I dont know whats going on but even worse I will argue with him. It scares him. Worse I dont really remeber it and I am not even medicated. I have been avoiding the pain medication to try to help relieve the constipation, so I know it is not drugs altering my perception. Its freaky! Lastly I feel like I am failing or the surgery was a failure. I know its the iv and stuff and I shouldn't let it get to me but the scale is showing a weight gain of almost 8.5 lbs. Add that to the swelling from the surgery and I feel so disappointed. I cant shake it. I havent gotten back on the scale since everyone let me know it takes time to get rid of the IV fluids they pump into u in the hospital. I have to keep reminding myself "I AM NOT GOING TO CHECK IT AGAIN UNTIL THE 2 WEEK Post Op" which is 9 days away. But that doesnt make the bad thoughts go away. I never thought I would deal with negative thoughts and feelings this close to the surgery! Anyone else struggling? I feel like its just me failing and it sucks so much!
  2. So why do patients face longer wait times to receive bariatric surgery compared with surgeries to treat other life-threatening conditions such as cancer and heart disease? . One big reason: Many insurance companies (including Medicaid) require those seeking bariatric surgery to lose weight before their surgery, even though there's no data or evidence to prove preoperative weight loss affects long-term success. Patients with complex medical histories enrolled in Medicaid experienced the longest delays. Nonwhite patients also waited longer... Smokers and patients with high cholesterol or psychological disorders also had longer wait times for bariatric surgery. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/07/180730090141.htm How long did it take before you had your surgery? How long did you wait calculated from your first visit to your date of surgery? What requirements or obstacles did your insurance carrier impose? Supervised weight loss attempts? Were you told that you had to lose weight during those attempts… and that any weight gain would impede your path to surgery? Did you have to meet with a psychologist, nutritionist, and attend required bariatric surgery classes before your surgery was submitted to your insurance for surgery approval? For those who were self-pay… did you circumvent your insurance carrier because of the obstacles/delays imposed by your carrier, because your BMI or other insurance mandated requirements did not make you “eligible” or because you had no bariatric benefits?
  3. its been 2 1/2 years since my lb surgery and i have reached my fill limit. the problem i am having is that i have gained almost 15lbs. is there a way i can get another fill
  4. I also had the same problem with my first pregnancy but I gained a lot of weight and with every lb gained my blood pressure went up. At around 6 months I was put on meds and I have been on high blood pressure meds since she was born 5.5 years ago. After I lost weight with the lap band my dose was decreased by 1/2. Once I got pregnant my OBGYN took me off of them completely b/c they werent safe drugs. So far my blood pressure has been ok but I think it will go up again with pregnancy weight gain. I have a drs appt today so I will know if it is high or ok.
  5. Hey everyone, I had gastric sleeve surgery back in 2014. I did pretty well over the years coming from almost 240 all the way down to 140 but now about 165. I'm definitely a stress eater. This year has been a struggle & I'm not even talking about COVID. No point in sharing my reasons because they don't help. I'd like to get back on track but I don't even remember how to start. I'd like to ask what you guys are eating on a daily basis; a sample menu perhaps? I'd be so grateful if anyone could give me pointers on how to get back on the right path! Many thanks, Fran

    Losing too much

If you reeeeaaaaalllllly want to up your calories/gain weight now beyond what are currently able (I personally wouldn't until you are further out and/or in the "Underweight" BMI category", but that's just me), you can look into weight-gain products that body-builders or the elderly use....lots of healthy calories and and very little volume (ie., Creatine or Ensure Plus).
  7. Anyone else experience this? I have only gained 2 pounds but worried about gaining more. I haven’t changed my diet or anything so I don’t understand!

    Is my band too tight?

I agree it is probably swelling but if in a week it does not change or if you are unable to take liquids do not be afraid of getting a small unfill. I went seven months too tight because I was scared of what it would be like to have some taken out. But a friend made me go as she had been through the samething, it did nothing but make me feel better no weight gain. You can always have it put back in. I only had .2ccs taken out but it made so much difference. Cheri

Totally frustrated and don't know what to do

Yoyolifechange: You go girl, you can and should do this!! It is not the easy way out by a longshot. It is a LIFETIME commitment, and it is just a tool to help you achieve your goal. Show your husband the before and after photos from gastric sleeve....that should convince him as well. Your kids are old enough to pitch in....mine are 15 and 16, and they are completely on board, along with my husband, for my March 31st sleeve surgery. They see how my weight gain over the past eight years has changed me, my personality, my health....they want the old, thin, healthy me back!!! Show him the positives about this surgery; include him so he'll understand. I pray you are successful in your Quest for the you YOU want to be!!
  10. I am literally at the end of my rope here and don't know what to do. I've gone to the seminars and scheduled my consultation appt in 2 weeks for sleeve surgery. I've not told anyone about this because "my weight" has become such a huge issue within my marriage and family. My husband views weight gain as a result of being weak and "giving up fighting for life". I've been my heaviest the past 2 years and they have been absolute misery. I've tried every diet known to man, only to plateau or loose so slowly that I end up giving up. I don't work outside the home so hubby thinks I should be "fighting for my family" everyday by going to the gym for 6 hours. Every morning I'm met with the "so whats your plan for exercise today?" instead of good morning or i love you. His nagging and negative comments about my weight have led to most of my unhappiness, which I counter balance by eating. I've tried and tried to talk to him about how he makes me feel, but he feels this is a black and white situation....I either want to loose the weight and will go full force with an exercise plan or I don't. Simple as that. If only, right? So secretly I've been going through the steps and researching the sleeve surgery, getting my thoughts together on when and how I can make it work and as usual, he asks me first thing this morning what my plan of attack was with exercise today. I reply "eliptical" to which he starts the normal lecture about how that's not enough, its not gonna give me the results I need, I've gotta go hard, he thinks I would've had more results by now......so I decide to broach the subject of "getting some drastic done" to which he boldly tells me gastric bypass is nothing but giving up, taking the easy way out, how will the kids react knowing their mother wouldn't fight for her family, fight for her marriage. I said I wasn't doing bypass and he asks "what then"? and I refused to tell him. I said I didn't trust him, obviously I don't have his support, and there was no reason for him to know. He asks "well than why are we together" and I'm left thinking I really don't know. I refuse to let him see me naked, we haven't made love in over a year because he makes me feel like a fat slob, so theres no way I'm down for giving myself to him in that way. I don't work, so I have no income of my own. Insurance won't pay for this, so I'm left wondering how I will pay for this without having to go to him and ask for the money. I was finally proud of myself for being selfish for once and I do view this as a total fight for my family and children. Im trying to think big picture and make a true lifestyle change and because it's not a "6hr in the gym" change HE wants, it's not worthwhile..... what to do? What to do?

    Lap band revision

I am 34 months RNY gastric bypass. I chose this type of surgery because I have severe acid reflux (GERD) prior to surgery and this is the recommended approach for that condition. I was in the weight loss phase for 6 or 7 months and then transitioned into the maintenance phase. What you are requesting, I believe is how to minimize your weight gain prior to surgery. This is somewhat similar to the maintenance approach, perhaps the following article might provide you some clues. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery2.pdf

    RNY July 2011

I will be two years out Feb. 2. I started at 358 now I fluctuate between 200-205. I feel I should have lost more but I guess my body is settling. Yes, there are time I notice weight gain. The most I've gotten up to is 210. When I see that happening it's time to do something. So, believe it or not I go back to the liver shrink diet we had to do before surgery. Protein shake and a piece for fruit for breakfast and lunch. My dinner consists of 4oz meat and unlimited non starchy vegetables. I got those extra pounds off.

  14. I have read that having your gallbladder removed can cause weight gain has anyone experienced this at all or any changes in digestion?
  15. @@Pinkberry2 I don't believe weight gain can be associated with gallbladder removal.
  16. I've gained 5 lbs. since I saw the NUT in August and my pre-op appt is this Friday. Do you think they'll cancel my surgery??? Any suggestions on how to lose these 5 lbs. by Friday? TIA
  17. I am 5 years post op RNY gastric bypass. It is common to have some limited weight gain after weight loss surgery. They call it a 20 pound bounce. The important thing is not let go beyond this 20 pounds. Most times this weight gain is due to a poor choice of snacks. Snacks should be limited to primarily to whole food options: nuts, natural nut butters, fruits, veggies, boiled eggs, string cheese, yogurt with berries and almonds, tuna pouches. Avoid processed packaged foods as much as possible.
  18. My dreams are only positive. I really want to be healthy and want to start my new journey with the band. I look at all the possibilites that will come back from years ago when I lose some weight. Not just looking better, but actually being more productive to myself and to my family. And prednisone has a way to help you breathe better but also give you much weight retention. My dearly departed wife was on 60mg of prednisone and she gained about 55 pounds. But being older and almost 5 foot 10 inches tall, she could carry her weight gain. Lose weight and you will breathe easier, then the familoy doctor should wean you off slowly prednisone. Best wishes Best wishes on your new journey.
  19. I am nervous about my appointment on s Monday! I have had a couple dreams that I get there and after talking...the doc tells me he can't perform my surgery. I have struggled with weight my whole life. Even as a child. I was bullied....which made it worse. I am tall so I carried it well as I got older. I dated with no problem. Even had really georgous boyfriends!! But in the end I was cheated on by all with a skinny model looking girl. Think that made it worse. I now have an amazing husband and 2 beautiful boys ages 2 and 4! I have lots of medical problems and have been on prednisone for 4 years. I weighed 205 this time last year. I now weight almost 300!. Can't breathe...no energy but I force myself to for the kids. I have severe RA and its gotten worse with the weight gain. I need to get this weight off so I can get my life back and have a healthier me for my family. Has anyone had nervous dreams about not getting approved? Scared

Post-op return to work and eating more

OMG me too! I started a new job a week and a half ago and now work in an office (vs. at home). I swear I cam literally see the weight gain in my thighs and love handles. When I saw this topic my heart stopped for a sec. Not sure if it's anxiety eating (I am absolutely an anxiety eater), a lack of sugar free Popsicles because no freezer or change of environment. I'm also considering the fact that I'm alone in the office (everyone else works from home or lives in a different state) but I live alone with my puppy so not much different. I look forward to reading other responses because my one year is coming up July 9th and my loss has slowed considerably. Also, the "honeymoon" period is over and my metabolism is back to slow as molasses mode. Not to mention it's been that time of the month since January 25th. I had a polyp removed in my ovaries and I'm on a new birth control that makes you irregular for 2+ months. If you made it this far, thanks for reading. I needed to vent!

    Living scale free

Yes I agree I don't have a scale I don't want to purchase one and it's simply because I've watched so many people get discouraged to the point they were in tears because of weight gain and they start to regret the surgery and it turns into a psychological thing and I don't want to deal with that and I've never been a person that looked at the scale so I don't have a problem with not having a scale Sent from my SM-G935T using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. Hello Everyone, I have a confession. I have gained back so much weight. I had successfully gotten down to 157 lbs. I exercised, but, in May 2012, I had what is called an eye stroke. This is an occlusion in the eye that causes vision loss usually in one eye. I was devastated. I was placed in a stroke clinic for treatment. Thankfully, a lot of my vision came back 70-80%. However, I have become terrified of running and most exercise. I did not have all the risk factors that usually cause this issue so, I concluded maybe it was stress. I had a cholesterol level of 188. BP 110/60, A1C. 5.2, glucose..88. So, my numbers were great. As a result I am on medicines. I also could not swallow medicine so had everything taken out. Well, Maybe not the best idea. Along with swallowing meds, I was eating everything else in sight. I had to weigh in at yesterday and it was 204lbs. I can remember saying, before fluids were taken out, restriction. No, fluid is crazy! So, I am back. Need support! Band is still the best!

    Weight gain at 9 months

Thanks for the help. Im getting really depressed. Do you ever eat oatmeal? The weight gain started around the time I started eating oatmeal. I also was diagnosed with a brain tumor and had brain surgery around the same time so I dont know what did it. I will try to reduce my portions. Thanks again

    Birth Control?

Okay so i know a lot of people gain weight being on the pill. But what about us who have had the sleeve? do we not lose weight as fast? Or do we stall? Im a few weeks post op. I stopped taking the pill because i had gained weight...i dont wanna gain weight after working so hard to lose it...so anyone have any advice on that?. I renewed my birth control its a pill called necon...the dr told me i can get other things but like i said i don't want weight gain. So whats everyone taking? Hows it working out for you?
  25. I am beyond frustrated with everything lapband related at the moment. I had my lapband about 6 years ago. I did okay at first and in all lost 62 lbs. Unfortunately that only brought me down to 220lbs so obviously I have a long way to go. With my goal weight being about 150 I still have a ridiculous long road ahead of me. That would not be a problem if my band was working for me, however, that is not the case. About a year and a half ago I was having restriction so much that I was throwing up in my sleep. Also, still not losing any weight which still boggles my mind. I went in reluctantly and had some of the fill taken out. I was under the impression that the Dr. only took a little out but I am starting to wonder. I have been back in about 4 times since to get a fill and have yet to notice ANY restriction. This is just not acceptable. The last time I went in he told me that I had the tightest fill that I have had since having my surgery. Obviously if I went from throwing up in my sleep to having no restriction at all then it doesn't take a rocket scientist OR A DOCTOR to figure out that something is not right !! The bad thing is is that I have told him that I am having problems and he has yet to do anything but want to give me another fill. Well I have gained 20+ pounds back so I almost feel like I am at the starting point again. This is beyond frustrating. Not only emotionally but add the fact that I am a self-pay patient and this has been a major expense for me. The way I look at it this was a major decision and it is what I consider a last resort. What do you do when your last resort fails miserably ? ? ? ?
