  1. I know how you are feeling. I am on day 7 of 3 week pre-op on Meditrim and it is tough. However, it does get easier. I would say about day 6 the hunger pains lessen. Keep your eye on the big picture. My thought ia that being on the pre-op diet will prepare your stomach for what's to come and "Bandster Hell" wont be as bad as what some people describe. We are building up our will power now and the weight loss is awesome - huge motivator. I have lost 12 already. Stay strong! Mar

    Drinking. Enough water!!

i am almost 5 weeks post op and i still struggle to get enough water in. I do wake up a couple times a night with a very dry mouth and i keep a water container next to my bed. But i know i am not getting enough water by the color of my pee which is what the surgeon told me to watch. water is difficult.
  4. My approval came back within 2 weeks - good luck! :smile2:
  5. hey there I have BCBS of IL too. They have to have an answer ready by the 30th day of request. Mine took 2 weeks too
  6. I need some opinions and suggestions. I am currently in the options class and I have 4 classes left. When I started the class 8 weeks ago my BMI was only 37. I don't have any co-morbities and I am afraid that once I finish the classes I will not get the authorization to get the surgery. The nurse who teaches our class says that if I got into the options class and if I complete all of the requirements then I should get the authorization once the class is over. I am very worried and I have not lost any weight because I do not want my BMI to drop any lower. So I would like some opinions and answers about the following questions. Do you think I will get the authorization once the class is over? Should I be worried? Should I try to lose weight? All comments welcome.

    Just approved--Wooo Hoooo!

Welcome and good luck to you both. It's going to take some patience, losing weight can get a bit boring at times when the weight stalls or slows, but hang in there and it will be gone forever.
  8. Yes I had the sleeve over two years ago and then converted the sleeve to the bypass. Post op six days now. Yes I had to do the two week diet prior to surgery. The first week consisted of a Protein shake for Breakfast and lunch, and for dinner, 1/4" chicken, Turkey or fish with veggies. Second week was all liquids, including Water, homemade broths, Protein shakes & tea. Tomorrow will be two weeks that I have been on liquids and it is very hard. I am so tired of protein shakes so I've literally been drinking more of the broths and teas over the shakes. I've been able to do about 1-2 shakes a day. I feel satisfied without restriction when sipping. I can finish one cup of tea or broth without any discomfort. I've finally lost the six pounds that I gained during the surgery from the carbon dioxide and all of the fluids from the IV. I have one more week to go on liquids and then I can have my first egg. Either poached, scrambled or egg whites. I can also have lowfat geek yogurt and cottage cheese during week 3. I can't wait for that. We are almost right around the same dates for our surgery . I'm happy for you! Keep in touch. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. My three weeks will be Thursday. It sure sneaks up on you fast, doesn't it? My email is sumaireweb@outlook.com, if you care to chat.
  10. I am 6 weeks post op. I am on stage 4 and I feel like I have a lump in my throat and a pain in my chest whenever I eat grilled chicken or any kind of meat( soft meat, not steak). I'm careful to cut small pieces and chew well. Is this normal? Temporary?
  11. I have BCBSNC.... My paperwork was sent in on November 2nd. I have STILL not heard anything. When I called BCBS they said it was in 'review'. I'm also getting pretty nervous. How long had they had yours when you got approved. Its been 2 1/2 weeks so far for me. Running out of fingernails!!!! Cindy
  12. hi all, ann here. i'm on the hunt for a good vsg surgery program. i live in the dc metro area, so you'd think it would be fairly easy, but i'm really struggling. i'm going to a seminar at fairfax hospital on tuesday next week (my 4th seminar -- boy am i sick of seeing stomach pictures!) but they may only do vbg!!! i'm hoping to get any feedback about their program or any info about programs nearby in maryland (balto for instance). thanks! i know i'm going to like being here!! i hope i'll be a good member of the forum! ann :thumbup1::confused1::thumbup:

  15. Just wondering what your experiences were? I got my letter yesterday (7-17-09) that I was approved for surgery!!! :thumbup:Just wondering how long it was then before your surgery. When I met with the surgeon on (7-9-09) he said it would be at least 3 weeks from approval. Did you find that in your case? Just curious. Thanks Lori

  18. You know, while I am in a completely different circumstance than you are, I kinda ended up just like you -- My husband is a diplomat and in June we move to Paraguay in South America. I thought to myself, this would be a great time to get my weight loss surgery done. I had initially wanted the lap band. So we scheduled an appointment with the surgeon who's done the most weight loss surgeries and he said, "I don't do bands, but you can choose the sleeve or the bypass." Well, I knew I didn't want the bypass for the dumping and other stuff, but I had never really considered the sleeve. I read up on it and decided, ok, I'll get the sleeve. We went back to the doctor, and he said, ok how about in 2 weeks. Yep!! I literally had to start my pre-op diet THAT day. It was crazy. And then I went in and all is history. So, you CAN do this!! From what I've read on the boards, Aetna seems to be easier to deal with -- so go for it

I definitely feel your pain (and all the other unpleasantness). I got a C. diff infection about 5-6 weeks after my VSG. Mine was a result of the clindamycin my dentist put me on for a tooth abcess, but having a teeny tiny tummy definitely hindered my ability to stay hydrated. You said you "most likely" have a C. diff infection. Did your doctor test for it? If not, I recommend the PCR test rather than the ELISA as the latter has a higher rate of false negatives. A positive confirmation may qualify you for any number of ongoing clinical trials for C. diff treatments. A was asked to participate in one, but the infectious disease center was located 60miles away and I just couldn't fit that much travel into my work schedule. Here are the posts that describe what I went through and what I eventually had to do to clear the infection. Good luck, I sure hope you have an easier time than I did. Feel free to ask any questions as I became kind of a C. diff expert. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/296042-possible-c-difficile-bummer/ http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/297327-diarrhea-is-back/ http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/300646-calling-all-poop-donors/ http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/303173-fecal-transplant-scheduled/
  20. My nutritionist is having me follow the post operation post liquid diet. And I do have to say it's working. I have an apple and a cheese stick in the morning for breakfast. I have a low cal/carb high protien shake for lunch with some veggies. And for dinner 4-6 oz's of chicken/fish/game. Even if I make a casserole I can have a cup of it and some veggies. The basic breakdown is 30 carbs for breakfast, 30 carbs for lunch and 30 for dinner. 0-15 for a mid morning snack and 0-15 carb for afternoon snack. The veggies I love are "freebies", like radishes and cucumbers. And even three cups of popcorn is only 15 carbs, and 3 cups of popcorn is a good size snack. I haven't been too hungry and it's been really easy to follow. If you would like some more foods that you can eat on this just let me know.
  21. Hello everyone, I'm so glad I fell upon this site. I'm currently going through the process for the insurance company and I'm into this since August 2010. THe insurance company changed its criteria a month into it so now I'm another month behind but I'm cool with that. I'm looking at all this paperwork and appointments that I have to make and the diet after surgery etc and honestly, I'm quite overwhelmed and terrified at the same time. I love to eat...and not that I love to eat so much that this is why I'm in need of surgery. If you look at my habits I don't think they are much worse than some skinny people but for some reason my bad habits love to stick to my butt and thighs. I'm not a huge over-eater, I don't endulge in a ton of sweets (although I do have my moments during that time of the month) but I do love my Mt. Dew and McDonalds Sweet Tea...yep, hard for me to give those up but I'm doing well. I'm afraid that I will lose my love of good food....I'm scared to give up food??? Does that make sense? I love the festivities around the holiday dinner, I love to cook etc. how did you deal with not being able to eat!!! I can't even imagine. At least on a diet you can splurge once in awhile. I'm scared that maybe this is the reason I'm not ready for the surgery. I desperately want to be healthier (skinny is not my goal...healthy is my goal) because I don't want to be an embarrassement for my son, I want to be around to watch him grow up and I want my husband to be proud to call me his wife. he has NEVER said anything to me about my weight...this is all on my, but my son is 2 1/2 years old and we hardly have any pictures together because I'm embarrassed. Perhaps that should be motiviation enough to stop eating???? How did you deal with the changes? HOw did you adapt to 6 weeks of liquids, pureed food etc.? How do you adjust to a normal life with the lap band? How are the fills? Does anyone regret this decision? I'm not looking for instant gratification and I know that by-pass isn't for me - - I don't want my insides re-routed - - I'm scared of the post-op life????? I told the doctor that I'm not looking to be a supermodel thin person. I'm looking to lose about 80 pounds and I'd be happy. If I could have a final weight of 155-170 that would be great. I don't want to have to shop in the chubby-chic stores anymore. Can you feel the port under your skin? That kinda freaks me out. Advice, stories, words of wisdom are welcome. Thank you in advance.
  22. You're going to get a lot of great advice here. You've found an excellent resource. I'm still pre-op for a few more weeks, but this is what i've learned: Keep reading, study everything you need to understand, and really think about what it is you're thinking of doing. Set a goal for yourself that's real and attainable, and keep that in mind. Everything else is just details you can adjust along the way. It helped me to sort things into groups. There is the Pre-op time, which includes referrals, appointments, diets, and lab tests. It ends with a surgery approval and scheduled surgery date. That was one goal I set and achieved. Second goal is surgery day. Getting ready for it, preparing what is needed to make it successful, having things ready for after surgery, and being mentally prepared for the exciting and fascinating rest of your life. Post-op life is the next goal. Learning to live with the band, how to work it to your advantage, new diet, exercise, and learning how to listen to your body. Managing things to best advantage. In between, ask questions here. There are a lot of folks here who are in all phases of this journey, and who are willing to share what they have learned. Most important, know you are not alone. Good luck! Dave
  23. Hi, everyone here is so inspiring and helpful. I have been reading peoples post for weeks now while I have been going to all my doctors appointments and have been getting some great advice. I even had to get my gall blader out and I didn't care because I knew after everything I was going to have my surgery. Now I finally have a date Nov 1 and I'm having second thoughts. Even my family are saying things that aren't very helpful. I think deep down I know I really want to do this but how come I'm feeling so upset about it? I also already miss my comforting friends; pizza, vanilla cake, and wine. I'm I crazy? Please I would love some feedback, Janine
  24. Thank you for everyone's advice, I did listen to it. I bascally let people who were being negitive know I was doing this, I'm excited and I do not want to hear anything that was going to upset me. It worked! I think I can deal with not having certain foods for a while but I need to know once in while I can treat myself. I read one women's post said she has pizza once a week, that's will be me. Thank you again, everyone here is so amazing and helpful, Janine
  25. I suppose this goes away after a while but does anyone know when? I am also very week today! Is this normal?
