Terrible time with trying to get 1st fill

I am so sorry. That experience is far from normal. I've had 4 different fills with 2 doctors and they have been easy and almost painless (all in done in 10 seconds). This office is terrible and you definitely shouldn't go back. One of the doctors has patients lift their legs while he finds the port, the other could just do it instantly with no help. Good luck, you will find a good, reliable doctor, they are out there.
  3. I still feel like crap. Missing food but can't eat anyway. Having trouble drinking sips of clear liquids. Drinking powerade, broth, jello and ice pops. I still feel pain in my stomach, hate chewing the pain pills...uh liquid is avail. why did they give me pills. Will ask Dr on Tuesday. Eric trying to help out but at night when he drinks he says stupid ass things. Called me a douchbag, baby, asshole, bitch...wow this is really helpful in my healing process. Todayhe put some clothes away...not mine only his. At least he is trying to keep house clean, complaining all the way but trying. Will take Nicholas out to Taco Bell for lunch I think so will be quiet a few minutes (I Hope).

    No Patience...gah!

No caffeine!!! Geaux, seriously no Caffeine, I about died when I heard that roflmao! One thing with Myfitnesspal.com since you know how it works. If I followed their suggestion for Protein, Carbs, sodium and calories I would end up gaining weight! Almost all doctors recommend the same thing with gastric sleeve and that's 80 grams of protein, 45-75 of carbohydrates and try to stay at 800-1200 calories a day (if you exercise and it tells you to add more calories and it says your aren't eating enough) ignore it. I quit doing Desserts like yogurt etc. and I started incorporating Peanut Butter on a teaspoon. I always ate my meat first, chew like 20 times and then go for your vegetables second, then and only then eat your carbs. Also, you have to learn not to drink with your dinner. I was a "choker" especially when I went out to eat. Something about eating in public, I always end up choking on my food and I am used to drinking Water with my meal. I learned that about an hour before dinner if I drank something hot like hot peppermint decaff tea I would be less hungry. I learned once I took away my drink with dinner, I chewed slower and chewed more thoroughly. I learned to wait at least 1/2 hour after I eat to then drink my water. These are all suggestions that were given to me in my packet and I spent 6 months practicing them. Not all doctors are that thorough, but it's worked for me when other things haven't. The reason for no caffeine is that it promotes stomach ulcers and more importantly, it causes dehydration. After surgery it's a struggle to get all your Fluid intake in and your liquid Protein in. Dehydration is a real problem. It's easier to quit caffeine before surgery than right after surgery because most people have withdrawals and headaches. I waited until I got approved to quit, so I had time to get used to it before I started on pre-op shake. Surgery is a week from tomorrow. A bit tired of drinking protein shakes and I decided not to have a big Memorial Bash because truthfully it would be hard having a huge party while on protein shakes, but my parents are going to swing by tomorrow to do some wii bowling. Good luck to you and can't wait to hear how your plan is going to go. All bariatric centers are different, mine seems to be one of the strictest compared to most. After surgery 2 weeks of Clear liquids, then 4-6 of full liquids then pureed, then soft, then regular. With pre-op diet, that's 10 weeks of no real solids.
  5. Congrats on your up coming surgery but sorry to hear you will be alone. One tip get one of those grabbing things, you know the ones they show on tv for reaching things up high or behind things...they are only about 10 bucks at walmart but you will not be able to bend over or stretch should you drop anything lol came in very handy
  6. Your thread opens with, "husband is the love of my life". Then goes on to say, "I'm 5-6 weeks pregnant" (after trying for 10 years) Those two are blessings in and of themselves. Being with the person who you can publicly say without reservation as being the love of your life......amazing.....wonderful....POWERFUL. To be able to have a child together.......divinely powerful. Everything else quickly becomes hurdles to work through.....obstacles an pitfalls to navigate around. I am surely not making light of these obstacles......BUT......they can be overcome. Your sleeve will tolerate a wide ranging diet and you will go onto motherhood as you've wanted to. The timing may be far from ideal......but you know you have great love for and from your mate and that will be a source of strength for you throughout the time ahead.
  7. Do not worry. I lost about 12 or 13 lbs in the 1st 9 days after surgery, then stayed the same (up and down a pound or two) for almost 3 weeks. I get required protein in every day, not always enough water though. Today, I am about 10 weeks out from surgery (sleeved on 3/31) and got on the scale this morning and was 199.8 [emoji4] I am definitely a slower loser than most, but on surgery day was 227 so averaging about 2-3 lbs. a week. Depending on where you started and your exercise and meal plan is why so many people vary. Some surgeons give patients a couple weeks of liquids, I went home from the hospital on soft foods. Follow your plan and you will lose. Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app

    I am OVER it today.

I have heard others experience it too, but my surgeon said it MAY go away eventually as my body heals (10 wks post-op)...time will tell
  10. I am new to VST and have found it very helpful in doing my research on the sleeve. My doctor is Dr. Yu in Houston and my surgery date is set for April 16. I am 54 and have become obese gradually over the last 10 - 15 years. I do not have any comorbidities but have decided to have the surgery to ensure my future health. My family has lots of heart disease and I know I need to change my eating and exercise habits before I develop serious health problems. My baby sister (40 yrs old) had the surgery in Dallas in January and is doing really well. She has had a pretty easy time of it - I hope it runs in the family!! I am dreading the Pre-op diet - Protein shakes are yucky to me - but I am determined to push my way through to get to the goal. Excited and nervous at the same time.

New Body Composition Testing Option: Inbody

I had the test with the InBody 720 done over a month ago at the Denver Center for Health & Sport Science, www.denverchss.com. I know Dr. Wolkodoff works closely with Dr. Snyder, yet he tries to work with the other surgeons as well. In fact, I got a discount because my surgeon recommends to him, although after the experience I would have paid the full $95 to find out all the information. By the way, I called Sally Jobe to see what a body comp with DEXA scanning would be, and the price was $279!!! First off, this test got rid of all the bad information from BMI, as I found out that doesn't work accurately with people who have been heavy or athletes, as we have denser bones and muscles. Based upon 23% body fat, my ideal weight is 148-153 where the BMI had me at where I would have been in 6th grade! Another interesting thing is you learn how much muscle you have in each area. I found out my legs were about 10-12% deficit for my ideal weight, so I was not getting as much out of cardio training as I thought, so I added in two sessions of weight training. As a result of the ideas and recommendation, my weight loss over the last 30 days was double what I had achieved the previous 30 days, so I am very happy. I think the comment about the Tanita scale is not applicable to this machine. I think the Tanita is like $500 and this machine was over $18,000. You would expect it to do a lot more with more accuracy, and apparently it does. Dr. W also explained that all these composition measurements are really very good estimations and all have a certain amount of inaccuracy. So my thought was why lay in a DEXA tube for 15 minutes if I could get the same result by standing for 90 seconds? I know someone who was measured in both, and the difference was 1/10th of a percent between the two. So, my vote was this was well worth the time and expense, and definitely changed how I thought about my ideal weight and exercise. Part of this was the machine, and part of it was the expertise Dr. W has at explaining all this and making good suggestions about exercise They do some other cool things, and soon I am going in to get my feet and gait measured at DCHSS and will report back.

    I am OVER it today.

I am over this stupid stall. 10 days gone by since I hit Onederland, only to turn around and end up right back at 200 again. I am doing everything my surgeon said to do. I have fibroids and I am seeing my Gyn tomorrow about that. I cannot stand this! It's so frustrating...I don't mind the challenges; they are making me stronger. I do mind the fact that lately this seems like I made the wrong choice to deal with my weight. I never dreamed I'd be stuck at 200 lbs!
  14. For me it was about 10 days, I had to go back to university 5 days after surgery, which was so hard, but I had to. Now I'm 18 days out and I feel fantastic! My clothes fit better, seats are easier to fit in and everyone is noticing, and moving is waay easier! I only turned 20 recently, maybe this is cuz of my age =/ but I feel muchhh better, and my energy is up, so yeah, hope that helped =/
  15. I am two weeks out and going back to work tomorrow. I work part-time though so I was able to get some shorter shifts. I am on my feet the whole time but there is minimal lifting. I will say that I felt like I could have gone back to work after about 10 days. I also had a hernia repair done. My surgeon told me that I should wait at least a week and when it came to lifting "if it hurts stop, otherwise whatever you are up to". Good luck!

    Any one here from Mi

Congratulations! My surgery was12/19/12. The last three years flew by, and I'm so happy I did this! Good luck!
  18. I swear my scale has a sick sense of humor. Today's weight loss would put me over into my first 10%, so I was super excited to weigh. But my scale gave me three different weights 2x each. 347.4 (gain of 0.6), 346.8 (even) and 345. The first 345 blinked and shut off so I did it again and came back the higher number and I was thinking WTF, so I weighed again and its the mid mumber. I try a couple of more time trying to get the same number twice in a row... no go. I give up. My scale is a jerk. HW 385 SW 359 Sleeved 10/5/16

    133 pounds, size 4

You look amazing, I know you are so proud to be that small. I will never see a 4 because of my bone structure, but I am hoping for a size 12 soon, in a 14 now. 10's would be the elusive dream size tho.
  20. Megan- Wow--this post really hits home for me. In fact, I could have written this post last year. I was banded in October of 2002, and I started (or re-started) counseling in May of 2002, in preparation for this journey. Everything you just said, I would have said. I didn't talk about my emotions--ever--but I loved talking about other people's feelings and what they were doing! I also was a comfort eater--that's what I turned to instead of talking through my feelings. And like your therapist, mine had me start working on new outlets right away. Now, things are so different for me. Really, I'm amazed all the time at just HOW different they are. I always thought I had a group of good friends--but I never knew how great they were. I never let them be there for me. I limited those friendships, because I didn't let them share *me*--I only shared them. When I started opening up, sharing with my friends, and family, it was like a whole new world opened up to me. A world where comfort eating is, while not completely gone, a rare occassion. What am I afraid of now? Not much. I feel so in control of my life and my weight. Now, I'm not done with my journey--I've still got a long way to go. But I just feel good--good about me, good about my journey, good about the possibilities before me. I hope that gives you some hope for the future! Janeen 10/18/02 Dr. Ren, NYU Medical Center 306/225/206mg/165g
  21. Hi everyone. I was banded on 12/19 so this is my second day. I was working so hard before my surgery that I didn't have time to get registered and read the posts. What I would like to know is 'should I still be in so much upper and lower belly pain?' I really thought I would be able to move a lot better than I am. Can anyone tell me their experience with the pain and how long I should expect to be down? Thank you.
  22. I'm in Colorado Springs, not too close, but would love to have a buddy. I'm RNY too, but still need WLS friends!! my surgery is scheduled for July 19. Sent from my SM-T230NU using the BariatricPal App
  23. I was banded on July/7/ 2011, pre-op I lost 10 lbs, then in about 3 months post op another 10 lbs, then after ward I stareted gaining back slowly but surely and now I am back to my pre-op weight. I don't feel a great restriction, although I have some and with some food it is greater than others. I have 5cc in a 10 cc band already which was done very gradual 3-4 fills. Is it possible that I have streched my pouch somehow? I just started exercising. Zumba for about one week and a little more concious of my food intake. since then I have gianed about 2 lb. any suggestions. thanks

    I Am Starving

My doctor told me that feeling hunger sometimes is normal and also to eat every three hours. I am 3-1/2 weeks post op and the hunger was strongest after about 10-14 days post op. After about day 17 or 18, I really haven't felt much hunger, but I am eating every three or so hours, albeit in very small quantities. I am starting to believe that the Gherlin hormone has something to do with the hungry feeling, and once it is reduced in the body, the hunger has subsided. Frankly, I think feeling a little hungry is a normal part of life. The feeling is how our bodies are programmed to remind us to eat. We should be eating, just in smaller amounts.
