    Good goal?

It all depends how heavy you are. People typically lose a lot quicker in the beginning, and as their weight drops, the loss slows a bit. But I think your 5-8 pounds a month is a reasonable and healthy goal.
  2. I'm reading everyone's post on what a fantastic job they are doing- losing a great amount of weight! Yeah for all of you- but then I'm on the same week and I'm only down 28.... 8 weeks out and only 28? Really I'm so aggravated - I'm doing what the doc said.... He's happy with it but damn!!! Stalled for 3 weeks and I'm going crazy! Ok sorry I'm ranting and should be appreciative for the lose so far.... But I want better results! This is depressing!

    Tummy Tuck

Technically, you can get one whenever you want. You may want to be at least be at or close to goal for optimal results, but its not a game ender. I have read that there may be some docs who would want you to be at a stable weight for a certain amount of time...but I had 4 consults, and none of them had this requirement. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I had all my consults at 7 months post op (when I reached goal), with the intention of getting it done right away, but my chosen doc didn't have a free spot open until 6 months later, which turned out to be a good thing because I lost almost another 20 lbs by the time my surgery date came around. I'm over a year post plastics today (and weigh basically the same as the day I had plastics).

    Tummy Tuck

Yes, I had a Tummy Tuck...I don't really know what other procedures there would be? Do you have something specific in mind? Below is a Before and After of the TT. I didn't have too much hanging skin, it was more of a wrinkly cloth look right in the middle of my abdomen, as well as some lumpiness all over. After the tummy tuck (which included muscle tightening and a bit of lipo on the flanks, you can see that the wrinkle look and lumps are gone, and my little ab muscles are visible at rest (i.e, I don't have to stretch out and flex to make them show, lol). Also, the lump in my crotch area flattened out, and the hips and front of the thighs smoothed out: I am think I'm basically the same weight in both these pics (give or take a lb or two).

    Tummy Tuck

Everyone has a diff timeline on when they want to get theirs done. For me, I wanted to reach my goal weight and then keep that same weight (maintain) for a solid year. I did that and then some. I was sleeved in July 2018 and just had PS in Jan 2021. For me it was getting it off, keeping it off. I knew if I could do that then my treat to myself would be plastics. Like I said everyone has diff time lines. This is what I set for myself even before I was sleeved so I stuck to the plan. For me it worked and I’m very happy. Good luck to you and what you decide. 6. Monday, August 11, 2008 CHICAGO - You can look great in a swimsuit and still be a heart attack waiting to happen. And you can also be overweight and otherwise healthy. A new study suggests that a surprising number of overweight people - about half - have normal blood pressure and cholesterol levels, while an equally startling number of trim people suffer from some of the ills associated with obesity. The first national estimate of its kind bolsters the argument that you can be hefty but still healthy, or at least healthier than has been believed. The results also show that stereotypes about body size can be misleading, and that even "less voluptuous" people can have risk factors commonly associated with obesity, said study author MaryFran Sowers, a University of Michigan obesity researcher. "We're really talking about taking a look with a very different lens" at weight and health risks, Sowers said. In the study, about 51 percent of overweight adults, or roughly 36 million people nationwide, had mostly normal levels of blood pressure, cholesterol, blood fats called triglycerides and blood sugar. Almost one-third of obese adults, or nearly 20 million people, also were in this healthy range, meaning that none or only one of those measures was abnormal. Yet about a fourth of adults in the recommended-weight range had unhealthy levels of at least two of these measures. That means some 16 million of them are at risk for heart problems. It's no secret that thin people can develop heart-related problems and that fat people often do not. But that millions defy the stereotypes will come as a surprise to many people, Sowers said. Even so, there's growing debate about the accuracy of the standard method of calculating whether someone is overweight. Health officials rely on the body mass index, a weight-height ratio that does not distinguish between fat and lean tissue. The limits of that method were highlighted a few years ago when it was reported that the system would put nearly half of NBA players in the overweight category. A number of experts say waist size is a more accurate way of determining someone's health risks, and the study results support that argument. Dr. Robert Eckel, a former American Heart Association president and professor of medicine at the University of Colorado, said the new research may help dismiss some of the generalizations that are sometimes made about weight and health. Study co-author Judith Wylie-Rosett emphasized that the study shouldn't send the message "that we don't need to worry about weight." That's because half of overweight people do face elevated risks for heart disease, explained Wylie-Rosett, a nutrition researcher at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. But, for those without elevated risks, losing weight "might be important only from a cosmetic perspective," she said. To arrive at the estimates, scientists analyzed nationally representative government surveys involving 5,440 people age 20 and over, and extrapolated to calculate nationwide figures. The new study, appearing in Monday's Archives of Internal Medicine, used government surveys from 1999 to 2004 that included lab tests and height and weight measurements. Participants reported on habits including smoking and physical activity. In all weight categories, risk factors for heart problems were generally more common in older people, smokers and inactive people. Among obese people who were 50 to 64, just 20 percent were considered healthy compared with half of younger obese people. The results underscore how important exercise is for staying healthy, even for people of healthy weight, Wylie-Rosett said. The authors noted that fat tissue releases hormones and other substances that affect things like blood vessels, cholesterol and blood sugar. The results suggest this interaction varies among overweight and obese people, the authors said. The results also add to mounting evidence that thick waists are linked with heart risks. Among people of healthy weight in the study, elevated blood pressure, cholesterol and other factors were more common for people with larger waists or potbellies. This often signals internal fat deposits surrounding abdominal organs, which previous research has shown can be especially risky. Similarly, among overweight and obese adults, those in the "healthy" category tended to have smaller waists than those with at least two risk factors. Dr. Lewis Landsberg, a Northwestern University obesity expert, noted that the research didn't look at heart disease, and that not everyone with high risk factors develops heart problems. Still, he said, the study shows that waist measurements can help assess health.

    Exercise works!

Exercise is amazing for our hearts, keeping and building the muscle lost with the weight loss, but technically is only a small part of losing weight. It's actually 90% diet. I have seen many people have this surgery and lose without any exercise at all. That being said, I'm a huge advocate of exercise for the reasons mentioned above. At almost 50, I'm in the best shape of my life thanks to 2 years of steady exercise. I've also managed to reduce some sagging skin a bit. I also think exercise is more important during the maintenance phase to KEEP the weight off than it is during the losing phase.

    Psych evaluation

In December I thought the exact same thing! I had finally made the decision to have surgery and I wanted it NOW. But now here I am scheduled for surgery next week, all testing and medically supervised visits done and can't believe it went by so fast! Make use of this time. Start gradually making some changes in your diet, start being more physically active and gradually build up activity. Read as much as you can and think about what your routine will look like post surgery. Make a list of the things you are most looking forward to being able to do as the weight comes off - keep this list and look at it any time you start to second guess yourself or just need a little motivation.

    Hiding behind Hubby 2006

From the album: A Trip to Health!

Just as soft and out of shape as I can be. My blood pressure was high and my knees replaced in 05. Now I needed fluid taken off the new knees. Hubby just learned to cope with all my issues and loved me through them. Not happy to be 56 and unable to get in and out of our pedal boat on the pond. I kept trying new diets and not getting any real weight off. Needing to make a life change but no idea where to turn. Feeling like I had to do something.
  12. I am sharing my story here in hopes that someone can share information that can help. Three years ago I had revision surgery and converted from a lapband to a sleeve after the band caused an ulcer. I lost 120 pounds with the band, but once it was removed - I regained 100 fairly quickly. After the sleeve, I lost 80 pounds and then got pregnant and plateaued. I ended up miscarrying with that pregnancy but my weightloss never restarted. A year later, I ended up getting pregnant again and gave birth to a sweet baby girl 2 months ago. I gained 40 pounds with my pregnancy and lost 20 within the first 2 weeks, but now I have plateaued again. I am 60 pounds from my goal weight and have never experienced the same success with the sleeve as I did with the band. I feel like the band ruined me. I'm a new mom and want to be the best I can be for my daughter and husband, but I don't look great or feel great and am very frustrated.
  13. I jumped on the scale this morning because I'm obsessive. I had to re-weigh myself 3 times because I am at the lowest weight I've been in 5yrs. Which is kind of sad considering this morning I weigh 309.4lbs I'm looking forward to being under 300 for the first time in 8yrs soon. Oh and for congratulations sake.... December 2010 I weighed 351lbs SW Aprill 22nd 2011 I weighed 331lbs 1 Month out I weigh 309.4lbs For a Grand total of 41.6lbs lost since I started this journey and 21.6 lbs lost since surgery Maybe I'll make my 30th birthday Goal after all. 49 more pounds for that one!

    Any one ride horses?

Kindle I doubt he will go too far, I know he goes to Miami to deliver to feed stores, he just happens to live around the corner from us.. very good people have always helped me. When my husband passed away they came over and made sure my hay was put into the barn. yes we are very lucky to have family close . I really am careful about lifting too much weight mostly for my back (I have osteoporosis.) I had band surgery and was told to limit my lifting to 50# . sounds like you are plenty strong but be careful.

    Hit A Goal Today!

Just wanted to share this. My surgery was 6/26/12. My progress has been slow but steady. I have set small goals for myself and I hit one today. I have lost 40 pounds exactly!!!! My preop weight was 362, and I'm 322 today! It's moments like this that push me to conquer my next set of goals. My next goal weight is 312 for 50 pounds lost, then 299 to put me under 300. I can't remember the last time I was under 300 pounds and now that is within my reach! I'm so happy I could cry!

    Any one ride horses?

I'm just learning about the sleeve....pretty excited! I'm 250 and not riding my horse right now......except for bareback in the arena for 5-10 minutes every once in awhile He's only 14.2 hands and even though he can carry me, I'm not going to make him. I do take him for 3-5 mile walks with me and my BFF, tho! He loves it! One of the reasons (besides my health and apnea) I want to lose this 110# is because I'm planning on entering the Clinton Anderson Academy to become a clinician.....and I can't do that at 250# Someone else mentioned her balance on horseback is much better since her weight loss. I used to do a LOT of riding....mine and exercising others' horses. And I can definitely tell a huge difference in my balance and whole riding posture, etc. Looking forward to getting to know more of you here! I'm going to my first meeting with the doctors tonight.....woo hooo!!!!

    12 Hours To Go

Congratulations! Surgery must be over by now and you are on your way to feeling better. You will soon be telling us how good you are feeling and how much weight is just melting off of you! Let us know when you can how surgery went.
  19. Steph, I have UHC too and am on month 4 of the 6 month Physician supervised weight loss. My UHC has just recently added (for my insurance plan) a 6 month support group component, which I am now in month 2. I am not close enough yet to estimate a surgery date, but I imaging it will be near yours.
  20. Juniper, I’m in the exact same place. I had severe reflux and had all the fluid taken out of my band. I quickly gained 20 lb over the 40 I had gained back over the last 2 years or so. I am approved for revision to bypass and am hoping to have it near the end of Feb. I had the exact same question . I would get stuck with the band and could either tough it out or eject the stuck item. I often chose eject and am wondering if you can do the same after bypass.

    Waco, Texas area people

My husband will be having the surgery first, possibly Sept/Oct. This will be my first major surgery, had wisdom teeth out, but nothing this invasive. I know what you mean about the outcome and getting excited again. I have been making a list of all the things I want to do after I lose the weight. I get so excited when I think about it.

    Will i need PS?????

i worry about needing a tummy tuck and a breast lift/augmentation. as my doctor was going over things pre-op with me he said to be sure to give myself at least 18 months from surgery before i consider any additional surgeries. he also said that to help the skin be sure to exfoliate (sp?). he said to scrub problem areas very well to help skin to renew. dont know how well that will actually help, but sure isnt gonna hurt to do it! my plan has been that if i do need any surgeries i have to maintain my goal weight for one year before i get it/them. its the deal i made w/ myself and w/ my dh. cant wait to get there!
  23. What is the DS option? I had sleeve 7 years ago and am now struggling. Have "only" gained 20 of the 150lbs I lost, but everything just feels so different. My relationship with food feels like it did pre-sleeve. I now crave food all the time, am never satisfied, and am really struggling - like the fat person I was before surgery? I am afraid of the bypass, and (maybe) would entertain a sleeve tuneup if such a thing exists. Yes I do have terrible stomach pain/ heartburn, but not reflux? And that is well documented, yet they say that I do not have hernia...?
  24. I have GOT to buy myself a measuring tape.. I'm upset with myself that I haven't yet. I was measured at my doctor's fitness center before my surgery and I have not been measured since. I KNOW I have lost inches, I can see it and feel it. However, I am only down a few pounds on the scale... it's weird how you can feel like you are different yet don't see much on the scale, that part of it is driving me nuts. I am going tomorrow to get a measuring tape because I know I will be happy to see what I've lost in inches.. and I need to stay motivated with my exercise. I'm definitely ready to start seeing a change on the scale. It's really starting to get to me. One day I am thrilled with myself and the next I feel like I should be doing better. I hate the rollercoaster of feelings but I know I have to deal with it.. there are always going to be good days and bad days. Plus, my weight fluctuates SO much in a day. I know this is normal but I never know what I really weigh. My weight in the morning is getting lower and later in the day its 4-5 pounds higher.. ?? Oh well.. as long as I am feeling the difference and feeling better about myself, that is the most important thing.

    Band to be Removed

I had my band removed March 1, 2009 because of a slip. At that time I weighted 163..only 8 pounds away from my personal goal. I have gained 30 lbs. since then and am totally disgusted with myself. :cursing:I am going to have the band put back on Feb. 11. I am keeping the same surgeon that put it in the first time. It was not his fault that it slipped. He is amazing. I am so thrilled to have this second chance. I hope that you get better with your band removal and have different results than myself. It is totally a personal decision what you do from that point on. Trust me, you will have lots of people giving their opinions about how they feel about the band, your weight loss, etc. I am so tired of hearing it that I have only told a select few that I am having it replaced.
