  1. Today I got a phone call from my insurance advocate. She said that she was submitting my info to the insurance company today. I'm so happy! Apparently I don't have to wait to do my 3 month supervised diet because I've been a patient of my surgeon for years. My doc and her say that my insurance is one of the best that they almost always approve for revision sugery, especially when it's due to the Lapband. She set a projected surgery date of March 1st!!!! I am super excited. I'm praying that everything goes well and that I'll be able to have all my finances in order by then. This is something I have been living with for years and I'm just so relieved to know that this horrible band will be gone soon. And I'll be on the road to a happy, healthy person. Anyone else having surgery in March? Sent from my SM-J700T using the BariatricPal App

    Weigh In Question

Once you are approved, you are approved. I am also under the BMI with comorbidies and getting a revision from band to sleeve on Feb 8. If they deny you have the surgeon do a peer to peer, that's what I did and I got approved right away.
  3. I recently had a revision of a VS to mini gastric bypass surgery in Jan (three weeks ago). I live in Los Angeles so I drove in and stayed the night before at the hotel they use. The surgery was very easy. For me going under is not a scary prospect as I’ve been around this rodeo before (this would be my 11 time going under). And it was very easy. I felt NO PAIN at all. I can’t say that will happen to everyone but I happen to be blessed with a high tolerance of pain. Even the gas they put in your stomach for the surgery seem minimal to me. I was walking all over the places chatting with the sweet receptionist up at the front of the hospital. So I was supposed to stay 3 days in hospital and two in the hotel but I only stayed in the hotel that one day and was bored to death. I wanted to drive home so I left one day early. Dr. Flores said I was good to go. I was treated very well and having so many doctors to check on my condition every day besides the nurses. Honestly, I got more care then in a regular US hospital. The bariatric pal staff was amazing. I think the only shortcoming I see, which is minor, is to give add a page in the nice patient book they give us on what kind of vitamins supplements we need to take after the surgery and how often and what type of blood tests we should take when we see our own physicians. The only other issues I had (again it’s minor) was there should have been a cleaning crew to pick up the dirty towels and empty the trash. I had to request them to do this. I talked to Enrique about my concerns and he told me he had a meeting with the staff and hospital discussing this and other issues. Again minor issues. The hospital was as good as any in US and the staff were very professional and treated me well. Also, the hotel has a casino in it and it is pretty noisy so bring some ear plugs. The rooms are very nice otherwise and the staff at the hotel was great. I had no issues with eating and on my third week and eating regular food albeit very little of it and I chew well. No dumping yet. I am being good for my diet. I am a gourmet cook so I am making a lot of the low carb recipes. To me the surgery was easy-peasy. I should have done this a long time ago. The price is the best for TJ bariatric surgeries and the hospital was great! I was watching a lot of Netflix shows there too. I would do this all again in a heartbeat. My only regret is I should have done this a year ago!

    Band to bypass complications

I'm a little late to this post, but I haven't been on the site in quite some time. My cousin had the issue you are concerned with.......her intestines wrapped and got tangled. She was very sick for a long time, but once they discovered it and she had surgery to repair, she was fine. Thanks for replying! What kind of symptoms did she have? Is she doing well now? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I haven't talked to her in a few years. She lives far from me and is actually a cousin through marriage. Anyway.....as I recall, she was very sick, but I don't remember the specifics. But I DO remember that it ended up being the very issue you're concerned about. There is a lot to consider when choosing WLS. I'm agonizing over it myself, because I'm considering a band/plication revision to bypass. I don't know if I will go through with it, but I'm reaching out to everyone I know, including coming back on this site, to get all the info I can. I'm 61 and don't know if putting myself through it is a good choice. Then again, blowing up again and having all the weight related health issues isn't a great thing either!

    Having a bad night

A lot of the back pain can be from lying on the operating table.I had a revision and was on the table 3 hours.I had a lot of back pain. The gas pains that take a while to go away and the back pain was made better by walking around to relief the stiffness.

    Not feeling much restriction

Yes you can definitely stretch your sleeve!! I just got the results of my Upper GI results 15 minutes ago and it reads: 1. LARGE AMOUNT OF GE REFLUX. 2. DEFORMITY OF THE GASTRIC FUNDUS. CORRELATION WITH THE PATIENT'S GASTRIC SURGERY. My doctor said my sleeve has stretched. It did not stretch back to regular size and shape...but it has stretched. I eat the same amount now as i did prior to my surgery 2 years ago. My metabolism is jacked up and I am 18 pounds away from my surgery weight from before. I fell into old habits listening to people tell me that my sleeve would not stretch and that it was the end all to my weight problems and now im right back where i started, except worse. Now, im in the process of trying to qualify for a sleeve to bypass revision to help with the persistent GERD and daily nausea. ???? Road to revision

Same band story here. [emoji1327] Banded in 2008. Couldn't tolerate fills. Hospitalizations. Lost 90 lbs but gained it back plus some. Reflux. Complications. I revised to bypass July 20th and have lost 109 lbs in six months.

    Questions

Do people that had revision surgery lose weight more slowly. Also I am 4 weeks out and still having trouble with food. Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App
  12. Hi all! After 3 years of suffering with my band, today with my first visit with a new doctor I already have a surgery day! I thought I was going to have to fight tooth and nail to get a revision, I can't believe how fast this process went. My surgery day is April 5th 2017. Now I have to quit smoking and lose 7lbs. My insurance required 1 month of a weight check in but I have 6 month worth of documented check ins from within the last 12 months. I am getting a band to bypass revision and now I am on to educating myself more about the bypass. Any tips, food suggestions or any other advise is GREATLY appreciated! 13. I just saw my doctor today and discussed having my band/plication revised to a bypass. Same reason I see in many revision posts.....due to horrible reflux. I had my band/plication done in March 2013 and did very well for about a year and a half. I've put back about 30 of the 70 pounds I lost, and I'm nervous that I'm actually considering going through another surgery. My band has been empty for about 6 weeks and I'm also nervous that I will gain all my weight back. I haven't been on this site for a long time, but thought I would login to hear from and about others that have done this particular revision. My doc said that he would remove the band and do the bypass at the same time. I've read various schools of thought on this, but he doesn't seem to think it's an issue. Also, more simple when dealing with insurance.
  14. I'm in SoCal and actually discussed a band/plication revision to a bypass with my surgeon today. My doctor is Helmuth Billy in Ventura. He is great! I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet, but after close to 4 years, I'm having horrible reflux issues and I've gained back close to 30 of the 70 pounds I lost. I don't know what he charges for self pay, but I can tell you that he's a great surgeon. Here is the link to his website http://www.drbillybariatrics.com Good luck!
  15. I'm also a revision. My surgeon wouldn't do it in one step so I have the final part of the revision on Monday. I'm nervous and excited. I did great with the band for a while but then I started having some bad problems and in the end it had to come out. I'm ready for the next move though!
  16. Hello!! I'm a band to sleeve revision on Feb 2nd, I'm excited to be able to at least enjoy food again, of course the proper food without my band issues!! Excited to find the me that's inside here somewhere!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    BCBSIL Insurance questions

I sure hope they get your paperwork corrected ASAP and you can get your revision, it's so frustrating!
  18. It is a stall!!! That is the good news! 3 women in my family have been sleeved and all 3 have stalled 1-3 weeks out for 2-5 weeks! I was a revision from a band and I stalled at 1 week for 2 more weeks. I have since lost 10 lbs in 8 days once my stall stopped! Both sisters have been successful with the sleeve. 150 lbs and 70 lbs lost by each. You may double check and look at your calories. Once I started eating more Protein and veggies (I was on any an all foods at 3 weeks!) and exercising (which you are already doing!!) then I dropped it! Keep on going. If you are following what the dr says with food, Water, protein, exercise, then you should be golden. Research the "3 week stall" because it is supposedly a thing. It has happened with 3 out of 3 sleeves in my house! Good luck! You have got this! Banded 2010 weight:327 Sleeved 12/28/16 weight:253 CW: 230 GW: 155 Heather in Texas
  19. 9 lbs a month is good. 1lb in two weeks is nothing to panic about if you eventually get a drop. I revised to rny and I was told it would be slower that newly wls folks. I'm losing faster than expected and they were shocked. My current rate is about 9lbs a month and I expect that to really slow very soon. I think your dr may need to come on here and read the thousands of posts about the week 3 stall. That he told you to start jogging is absurd. Please check out dr. Matthew weiner on YouTube if you are looking for reasonable post op diet and exercise recommendations. He also talks about why people lose at different rates etc.

    BCBSIL Insurance questions

i have BCBSIL and i saw that about not having to do the 6 month diet, which is true. HOWEVER, i have a lap band and im trying to get it removed and revised to the sleeve. i have been denied twice, basically due to paperwork. they first said my paperwork didnt show it was medically necessary to have my band removed, then we submitted with more paperwork. Now they are saying they thought my band was removed in July so they denied me again!! Currently they are reviewing my paperwork AGAIN!!! So i would just advise that all the documentation they request is submitted correctly!!! Best wishes to you!
  21. They don't stretch like they used to, no. When people say they have stretched their sleeve, most likely they have weakened the pylorus and food is getting pushed out of the revised stomach. Sent from my phone. Please excuse brevity and spelling errors.

    Signs of a stretched sleeve

Umm... what? Yes they do? It's normal for them to stretch to some capacity as you get further out from surgery. If it's stretched too much, some have had to have revisions done. It just can never stretch back out to what your stomach was once before. But if you fall into the old habit of overeating constantly, it will stretch. @@ryan_86 4oz isn't a whole lot with how far out you are, but I also know everyone is different. Sometimes I can eat 3oz of something and be stuffed, other times I can eat 6oz and be content. Snacking is okay as long as you're making smart choices. I limit myself to one snack per day, usually during a stretch of time where I go the longest in between meals. When I do snack, it's typically vegetables or something whole grain and nutritious (I personally limit these because carbs are my mortal enemy). No, they don't. The stretchy part, or fundus is removed during surgery. My surgeon told me they don't. Also, check out Dr Matthew Weiners videos about it. You're new to surgery. You'll learn. But don't act like you know everything because you don't.
  23. I'm a month out and in the same predicament. Mine wasn't a revision, so I'm really discouraged. At two weeks the scale hadn't moved at all. The last two and a half weeks I've been going to the gym three times a week and I'm on soft Proteins. That's when the ten pounds have come off. Then again, I'm having issues with my gallbladder now, so... Sent from my SM-G900P using the BariatricPal App

    Failed psychological evaluation

@Georgia_gal24I hate to tell you this but theres probably a good reason your doctor failed your psych. I had a friend who failed her psych the first time. She went to a different doctor and they passed her but she was NOT ready for surgery. She does everything she should do...drinks while eating, still drinks pop, eats out for every meal. She was not ready for the psychological issues that go along with surgery. It is a mentally taxing thing to go out with friends and watch them enjoy a meal and you can only take two bites and then you're done. You need to be emotionally ready to understand that you'll have stalls and your friendships may change or you may even lose friendships or your family may not understand. I know its frustrating but your insurance company wants to make sure you will succeed at this because if it doesn't, they'll be paying even more for you for revisions or other medical services. I'm sorry but good luck and keep going! Be strong! Feel free to check out my blog. I write a lot about being emotionally ready for surgery.

    Why did you choose bypass?

Also bypass for all of the reasons above. Mine was a revision from a lap band.
