Who Wants To Share Some Recent NSVs??
Catherine55 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't help it. . I love hearing about everyone's NSVs (non-scale victories). They are just plain inspiring. If you have some to share, please post away! Here are a few recent ones I have had: - Being able to shop in the regular department and finding out that I am finally back in a size 12 (OMG!!!); - I can wear heels all day without my feet killing me; - I can run without my compartmental syndrome (a co-morbidity) cutting off my circulation and pinching my nerves! In fact, I am going to run the Komen Race for The Cure in September! I could go on, but I really want to hear other people's! Catherine -
Who Wants To Share Some Recent NSVs??
dreark22 replied to Catherine55's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've only lost 21 pounds but just having this surgery has given me the motivation to really stick it out in the gym so that's where my NSV's feel like they are right now. My heart rate isn't going as high when I'm doing the elliptical and I'm getting in a full 45 minutes a day cardio plus weight lifting in between classes and a 30 minute session of yoga when I get home at night. Simply knowing that I've taken this big step in my life has helped soooo much. Plus, I seem to have a lot more time on my hands when I'm not constantly eating or planning what I'll eat next...who would have ever thought? Here's to a great future for all of us! -

These are so great!!! I love it that so many people had so many different ones to share so far! Kdub -- I'm doing the Susan G. Komen Race for The Cure (raising money for breast cancer research). ThereItGoes, I bet this will cure your compartmental syndrome! I can't wait to see that in your NSV list! Catherine -
The annoying new habits that came to be with my sleeve...
Indigo1991 replied to LipstickLady's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Lipstick, pmsl, could just imagine this! I love that it is all still so exciting for you and that you aren't laid back about your NSVs. I wake up every day with a smile on my face - and some days I just dance round the house cos I love my sleeve and cos I can now dance without a bit of me seizing up -

Holy smokes ... LMAO!!! Laughing so hard, coffee came out of my nose. And congratulations because these are all NSVs in my opinion. LOL..... thanks for the great laugh I needed that! -
I suppose I'm just looking to share with others in my shoes. I'm 6 wks out today. I hit the dreaded 3 week stall I assume because the scale hasn't moved in 3 weeks. That's a long ass stall! I just got home from a business trip in Vegas. My plan allows for crab meat and baked fish at this point and I figured I could share with my husband. It was SO much harder than I anticipated. I had the expected difficulties with wanting to eat steak and all the other wonderful things that got me to bariatric surgery. I did not expect that I couldn't eat anything!! My stomach is not ready for fish or crab. I tried two bites, chewed well and hurt for hours. I was so discouraged. I had protein bars packed and ate those, but I really struggled to get any significant protein or calories in. I wanted to cry. I was so mad at myself for having this surgery! All this and the damn scale hasn't moved in 3 weeks! How do you not lose weight on 600 calories a day max? Then I went to the spa for a massage. And for the first time in years, I was able to wear the regular robe out the locker. The attending didn't have to discreetly get me a "different robe." Such a small thing, but it made such a big difference in my attitude. I wish my sleeve was healing faster. I wish I could tolerate a larger variety of foods. But, I know its going to get better. And it's going to be worth it.

Hi Anne, You have done so many good things for yourself and are losing more than enough weight. Give yourself a break. You're doing great! As for your clueless friend... You teach people how to treat you. Teach her you won't allow people to speak to you that way. I have had this same issue with my mother. She thinks negative comments will motivate me. Now every time she says something stupid I call her on it. She doesn't even realize she's doing it half the time. Ugh! Brag about your victories. You have a lot to be proud of! In public is the worst. I was out to luch with the family once and spent half the time spitting my drool and slime into a toilet  To some degree, though not as bad as you mention, it should take a while for things like tuna or well chewed chicken to go down. The guide my Dr told me is take small bites, chew really well, eat about 1 cup of food, don't eat for longer that 20 min. and it should take about 3 hours until you are hungry again. With more solid foods I take a few bites and then have to wait for a small burp before I can eat more. I can tell I'm full when I start to get discomfort and often I will hickup or my nose runs. Weird, huh? My NSV: I made it to water aerobics this morning! This is a big personal victory and I'm proud of myself.

My first NSV- 2 months after surgery
nomorejellybelly replied to Moquarius's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good Job. I feel silly asking, but what does NSV mean? -
I was thinking....what a great NSV! I hope someone says that to me someday. Maybe it comes from them being concerned that you're not getting enough nutrition? OR in the case of someone who isn't supportive of you, jealousy? I'm still waiting for someone that doesn't know about my band to notice, and say something about my weight loss. Over 50 lbs gone, and NOTHING. Not that I care, but you'd think SOMEONE would notice! LOL!

Onederland at last! (And a few NSVs)
foxgirl74 replied to susieq's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Aww! Your post made me smile! Congrats! It sure does feel good to be losing weight, get under 200 and know it's only going to get better! Very nice NSV's!! I was told I am disappearing! LOL I said for the price of surgery I better be! Keep up the great work!! (And the dance moves) -
Mrs Husker-- big W00T for breaking your plateau! That always feels good. OH Julie--WOW great avatar pic! You look hot! And you are so close to onderland, you will get there soon I'm sure. Everyone--we are doing great at 1 year. Big props to all! I finally got into the size 8 jeans the other day, that was a big NSV for me. :clap:Running really seems to help. I can only run for 6 minutes at a time so far, and last night I did a total of 17 minutes in 4 blocks over a 49 minute session on the treadmill. It's getting better, easier (a little). About sizes, I think it's funny that the sizes we hated when we were gaining weight, we LOVE when we lose weight again. I remember MANY years ago getting to a size 10 and being disgusted that I was in "double digits". Wow, that was probably 15 years ago? I never saw size 10 again until a couple of months ago, and it was like a long lost friend. Of course, sizes are a little bigger than they were 15 years ago...(shhhh!) OK, ladies, have a great weekend and happy bandiversary to the early Marchies!

"slow Losers" And Long Term Results?
Elyse replied to Carly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Carly, I am almost 2 years out from my sleeve. I started my journey at 304 pounds and am now at 170 pounds. My goal weight is 140 lbs so I am still 30 lbs from goal and I have def been a slow loser ( or at least I feel I have) Most girls I have talked to have reached goal in less than 2 years. But I myself feel that I couldnt of lost 160 lbs in 2 years if I wanted to! I am in no rush to "get to goal." Sometimes its hard to not compare ourselves with others, but I am convinced that slow and steady wins a race. I have been in this darn stall for 6 weeks and am ready to see the numbers moving. But enjoy this journey and all the NSV's along the way. You will do just fine! -
I just got an email from the center where I exercise asking if I would be willing to be the Spotlight Member for the October newsletter!!! ME!!??? I can not believe it. Granted I have been there almost every day since May 24th but Im soooo flattered and proud and just cant believe it! 5 months ago I didnt want to go to the grocery store and now I will be in the spotlight!! So crazy! I'm sooo excited! I am working really hard and it's amazing when other people notice! Seriously never could have imagined I would be in the spotlight for a fitness article!! MIND IS BLOWN!!! Push yourselves!! This journey is AMAZING and it only gets better!! This feels so much better than french fries taste!! Feeling proud today that is for sure!

Giving Lb The Bad News...
Vicki Loichinger replied to ladyspl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
now that is great. See it is the little things that bring us such great pleasure. Just one more NSV that you will get to do. Funny how they nearly beg for your business. -
What do you tell the haters?
1gorgeousgodzilla replied to Mrs.FullerRN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are only confirming my decision not to divulge the details of my upcoming surgery with my co-workers. They already scrutinize who eats what at office gatherings, so heaven forbid I eat half a donut or something after the procedure. I know they will be waiting for some sort of failure or re-gain no matter what I do. So. . . Make your haters your motivators! I plan on being the most fabulous and toned me I can be! Every NSV and weight milestone will be my personal eff you to the naysayers. Jennifer -
No No No, Dont make us wait for updated pics! Post some NOW and 27 lbs from now! Size 16 is such a great NSV!
-
Congratulations on a great NSV and being able to shop for a normal size.

Haha, I literally just had a debate with myself today about buying knee high boots online! I've always had thick muscular calves, so boots never fit me, even when I was thin. A few weeks ago I bought a pair of thigh high boots for my Halloween costume and those suckers didn't even come close to fitting my thighs. I'm sure it is all in how you lose weight, but for me, my legs are very muscular, so short of losing all my fat in other places and then eating away at the muscle, I doubt that I will fit in the cool boots until I am very thin. Fingers-crossed for everyone that has this as one of their future NSV goals- I'm right there with you!
