Dont worry about calories at all. Focus on good quality Protein and veggies and you will do fine. I remember starting with a perfectly cooked piece of fish or chicken. You need to make sure it is moist not dry so dont over cook. One of my first meals was a chicken breast cooked just to done, not over. It was super juicy. I liked to use a low sugar spagetti sauce and a sprinkling of cheese. I could maybe eat an ounce or two and i would be stuffed for hours. In the beginning i always would make some sort of low sugar sauce or non fat gravy. But my absolute favorite was fish. My tummy loved it. It took some time for me to be able to eat beef and pork and even now, i can only eat a small amount and it has to be a very tender cut. It was probably 4 months post before i could eat shrimp but now it is one of my favorites. I ate and still eat alot of cottage cheese and greek yogurt. Just take it slowly, chew very well and did i say take it slowly?! LOL. The worst feeling is when you eat to fast and you feel a huge lump in your chest. It can really ruin a meal and that can be caused by eating too fast or not chewing well enough.

Able to eat almost anything
Mindy78 replied to carmenlw3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr had me on soft chicken and tuna a week post op soft stage 3 full liquids the first week. With that said, nothing bothered me that was on my list to try til w weeks out which was Monday everything has bothered me since except Protein shakes and yogurt. Water even bothers me. Other things seem to "get stuck" I can only describe it as chest pain after 3 baby spoon bites. Be easy on your tummy you may just not feel the damage. Sent from my 5054N using the BariatricPal App -
Food Tracking Confusion
Inner Surfer Girl replied to busybeebug's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you measure a portion and don't finish it, do you finish it later? If so, then just track the portion you ate based on what you measured. For instance if you eat 1/2 a Greek yogurt then record the 1/2 serving and then when you finish the other half record the second 1/2 (or 1/3 or quarter or whatever). -
At your stage my surgeon had me drinking milk only for a snack. Food i was eating cottage cheese, yogurt, protein shakes, cream of wheat, I was also allowed pureed meats and eggs but they did not agree with me at that stage so i live on yogurt, cottage cheese and protein shakes until i hit the soft food stage.

Snacks other than protein drink
Raynbolite replied to Roxsannalee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I love cottage cheese and salsa too. Everyone thinks I'm nuts! Those 110 calories jerky packs are great to take when on the run...I try to eat protein at meals, so I get veggies in. My body needs fiber. Baby cucumbers and cherry tomatoes are my go to. I love babybel cheese, Greek yogurt, 100 calories nut packs and hummus. Sent from my XT1650 using the BariatricPal App -
What Is Your Beverage of Choice?
cbonet replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
It's super easy and fun. I've been doing it for years now. First you get 1 tablespoon of kefir grains (can buy it from Amazon or have a friend send to you since it really multiplies hehe), you add that tablespoon to 1 or 2 cups of milk, leave it out at room temperature for 24 hrs, strain the grains off, and you have kefir. You reuse the grains over and over. I still have the original grains from years ago. To the strained off kefir, you can put it in smoothies, and use just like yogurt but it has waaaay more probiotics than yogurt, more strains to protect you from illnesses. Then with the strained kefir grains, you just add that into new milk and you do it over and over. It's easier to watch the video below as I'm not ept enough to explain it hehe. It's a great hobby too! Here is my favorite youtube video (it healed this girl from Crohn's disease): Can you do this with almond milk? -

I feel like I get up every single day and say to myself 'yep, still can't do that stuff anymore'. It's honestly day by day by day...and if I screw up one day, the next day is a clean sheet until I choose to do something to screw it up again. I realized after my surgery that I used to head straight to the kitchen to get something to eat the minute I walked in the door. And I did it just now. Of course, I haven't already overeaten all day long and I didn't get a bagel or a bowl of ice cream, I got a yogurt, but the habit is still the same. I HAVE to break it. Be kind to yourself...you didn't dive head first in to a vat of Chunky Monkey, right

So, does using a smoothie count as liquids? I use one scoop of powder, 8 oz of skim milk, one cup of ice and a few table spoons of greek yogurt. How should I tabulate the liquids for this, I am always under and hoping using smoothie will help.

Can I have regular yogurt while on liquid diet Sent from my HTC Desire 626s using the BariatricPal App Can I have regular yogurt with liquid diet Sent from my HTC Desire 626s using the BariatricPal App Check your plan or ask your surgeon or nut, since it depends on where you had your surgery. I would go with plain greek yogurt diluted with milk, add sweetener if needed. (if yogurt is on your plan) Nilla -
Yeah. That is slow. Are you sleeve or bypass? Best way to up your Protein intake is to add more powder to your shake. For one scoop of a "flavored" powder, I add an additional half scoop of an unflavored, such as unjury. So my shake goes from 24 to 35 g of protein (that's using Water not milk. Milk increases the protein count, as well, but I HATE milky protein drinks!) Add one more shake at 24 g and you're at 59g protein for the day- and around 300 calories give or take. The rest you can get with your meats, dairy, or however you choose. Remember. All Proteins are not created equally. Provided you don't have dietary restrictions, utilize a good whey PROTEIN ISOLATE based powder. Plant based are fine if you're vegan, but they are just not as readily utilized. Consider eggs- two scrambled or poached eggs - that is 14 g of HIGH QUALITY protein and 150 cal. Now you're at 73g of protein for the day. A serving of Greek yogurt like Oikos Triple Zero adds ANOTHER 15g and 120 cal. So now you're at 88g of protein for the day, and 570 cal. See how that works? You can get your protein requirements in and have room for some extra calories from things like almonds (plain!!) or some nut butters. Your veggies too. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Which brand and where did u buy it Sent from my HTC Desire 626s using the BariatricPal App GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder seems to be popular. You can mix it to almost anything. Just be careful not to heat it, since it can lose some of it's potency. You can add it to warm broth but don't put the protein in the microwave. It also mixes to cold stuff like milk or yogurt. Use unsweetened almond milk if you have problems with lactose. Nilla -

I bought the GENEPRO. I'm 2 weeks post op and using it to supplement. I'm drinking premier Protein shake, eating cottage cheese and Greek yogurt to get protein as well. I'm not sure if it's a scam as I have read both sides. How can you tell who is telling the truth. I will ask dietician at my one month post op appointment. But I figure at this point as long as it's giving me some extra protein and doesn't have too much taste it's better than nothing. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I have Soups and stir in unflavored Protein powders as well. I'm avoiding yogurt as I don't tolerate it well.
