ANY DOCTORS TO explain medical terms like common channel length in bypass??
ANewStart4Me replied to New&Improved's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yeah, I’m in Victoria. Pre op I was just on 100 at my heaviest. I then decided to take out top cover health insurance and start the ball rolling. In the 12 month wait period I tried duromine, dropped 12 kilos in 3 months but the lack of sleep just made me feel crazy. Was doing good and dropped another 2 kilos off duromine. Then the weight crept back. Over about 10 weeks I went from 86 to 96 kilos. So by the time I saw my surgeon I was so glad he had me booked into hospital 3 weeks from our first visit. So far eating most things has gone really good. Only if I eat one bite too much I vomit a bit. Drinking enough is the bit I struggle the most with. Atm I can eat almost 1/2 to 3/4 of a small yoghurt now. So around 80ml. How much my taste in food changed was the biggest shock. The kids got kfc the other week, I stole one popcorn chicken, one chip, and a little pinch of skin and it all tasted disgusting, and I threw it up within few minutes. Tried a bit of ham cheese and tomato pita bread and was horrible. Things I would normally love taste vile, I really hope it stays that way forever haha. Try to have a variety of shakes and sugar, free jelly, different stuff to make smoothies when you come home from hospital. All the things I drank a lot of the first couple of weeks I can’t stomach now. They ones I switched up often I have no problem with now. -

Thought I wanted the sleeve, Doc recommends RNY
Aodhanmom replied to rglad1267's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had my consult today and the same thing happened to me! I wanted the sleeve but the NP changed my mind. She said that 10% of people who got the sleeve, who never had GERD prior, developed GERD after. Also she told me due to my PCOS, high cholesterol, & hypertension along with my BMI of 54 the RNY would be beneficial. I have amazing insurance and only need 2 nutritionist visits & a psych consult then I can have the surgery! Good luck on your journey and keep us posted on your progress! -

Before and After Pics

Yes it was a horrible feeling, actually feel queasy just thinking about it, but thanks I am good now. I start "real food" next week 10/11 and I am actually getting nervous. I am thinking about staying with my soft foods somewhat longer, I guess we just have to take baby steps. Let's compare notes after next week

Absolutely check with your doc. I asked mine about travelling 4 hours by car for a 2 night stay that was 10 days post op. At first he hesitated but when I told him it was to celebrate my daughters engagement he said ok just stop every hour or so and walk around. We made one stop going and one on the way back as I was sure to walk plenty before and after the ride as well as the stop. I packed my cooler for the weekend with my shakes, yogurt and water, I thankfully had no problems. Be well, good luck to you and thank your husband for his service.

How long before you were allowed to lift over 10 lbs, after your revision?

I was 192.8 on surgery day 6/8/19 and it will be 3 months next week I am 169. A big difference between now and the 203 start. It just seems so slow compared to others with the sleeve. I have my 3 month appt. with the surgeon next week and nervous I didn’t lose enough even though he told me to take it slow I have a year to take it off. At least at the 169 I am in the overweight category which I am very happy with for now. It is a little frustrating not seeing it come down. I am hoping I can continue losing as you did! Congratulations on your accomplishments it is something you work at every day.

I deleted and redownloaded and still can’t get it to do more than flash on the screen, then immediately close. Yes, very frustrating. I’m about to leave for another 10 hr shift and will not get to this place out til after I get home tonite late. 🤬🤬🤬

October Surgery Roll Call
Panda333 replied to Panda333's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
October folks, how is everyone doing? I was Oct 1. Did okay the first day truly wondered if I had surgery. Now I'm back from hospital and having major pain. I had to sleep sitting up last night and on my back only can't sleep on the stomach or side. I'm still up 10 lbs from surgery. I went in weighing 284 now I'm 294. bummer..I know it will go away. I didn't have any gas pain and I have 6 incisions..... -
OK guys maybe I’m just pessimistic (I stress maybe) but am I the only one who has found this surgery to be a complete B*TCH?!
Panda333 replied to HopefulonLI's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
3 days out here..not much pain after surgery or day two but today is day 3 i'm up at 4:00 typing this and in sooo much pain. They gave me only 10 pills of 50 mg tramadol and I've taken 2 already. That leaves me with only 8 and I'm trying to use sparingly. There is also liquid tylenol I know..... NO regrets on the surgey but this pain is #$#$ no joke. -

Sheribear68 replied to HopefulonLI's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn’t have hardly any pain to be honest. Just some pain in the solar plexus and really sore abs. 10 years ago I had bilateral breast reduction surgery and I woke up thinking I’d awakened in the depths of Hell because it hurt so bad. I’d rather have bariatric surgery every month than ever experience the kind of pain I had after the breast surgery. -
It will definitely get better, but you just have to train yourself to eat really slowly and stop BEFORE you feel full. Like eat half of what you think you can, and then stop for at least 10 minutes. I remember that so well. I would feel just fine, assessing my fullness after each bite.... and then suddenly WOW! TOO FULL and sick. It's hard, because we had decades of just eating fast and swallowing mindlessly. Now we have to unlearn that behavior and slow it waaaaay down. It's hard, and frustrating. But it will get better, I promise. For now, just stop way before you think you need to.

Ha! It's called LIFE! And developing resilience! And perspective. My poor little daughter-in-law has 10/10 pain with a mosquito bite! No kidding! My favorite all time quote: " Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather a skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, "Wow! What a ride!" Hunter S. Thompson -

DO YOU THINK THE SURGERY WAS WORTH IT?
FluffySaysForkIt! replied to AmbrosiaoftheGods's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I would, for myself, do the surgery 10 times over again for the way I feel right now- but I haven't had the complications you have endured, either. I am so sorry you have had it so rough! I hope as time goes on things will settle down health wise for you and become much, much easier. Wishing health and happiness for you... 💙 -
Insurance recommendations...
Orchids&Dragons replied to tarahuff82's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My approval from Cigna was less than 10 days after my upper GI, showing severe GERD. I had the surgery within a few weeks after that. I hope yours goes as quickly and that you feel much better. -
