  1. I had the sleeve in 2011 and lost 88 pounds. Then I gained about 40 and had really bad acid reflux and could not lose the weight. So I went back to Mexico in March 2016 and had the revision to mgb. I will say the sleeve was a breeze and I felt like I didn't even have surgery. The mgb was not bad, just a little discomfort. The main difference I noticed was with the sleeve I had plenty of energy and with the mgb I was really tired for about 2 or 3 weeks. I'm a police officer at a hospital/university and I walk several miles a day and frequently have to fight or restrain mental or drugged out patients. I took 3 weeks off with the mgb and I was fine. If you have an office job you could probable take 2 weeks off and be fine. My starting weight with the sleeve was 257 and it was 199 with the mgb. I'm currently about 160. My goal was 150 but I work out a lot and I've went from a size 16 to a size 8/10 since the mgb so I'm pretty happy if I stay where I am.
  2. Hi, I've been through a band to sleeve conversion after an initial band and then a revision. My band removal and sleeve surgery were done 8 weeks apart. I had my sleeve surgery 6 weeks ago. The surgery went really well even though I had to have an unexpected second hiatal hernia repair. Apparently the surgery took longer than expected. I didn't have much in the way of gas pains. My pain meds worked well and I went home day 2. The recovery was more painful than I'd anticipated so I stayed on narcotics over 2 weeks. I'd heard sleeve surgery is easier than a gallbladder removal. I'd say it was the same as my gallbladder removal. More painful than band surgery, but I'm 18 years older now so that may have something to do with it. It was really hard to bend over for a while and then voila about 2 1/2 weeks in it got a lot better. sleeping was tough bc I'm a side sleeper and I had to sleep on my back for a while. I took four weeks off from work and I'm so glad I did because I needed the time to get my energy back. Now I'm feeling great and am SO happy to have made this change. It's such a different experience physically and emotionally. Good luck to you! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    I HAD MY SURGERY YESTERDAY!

I loved my first band in the beginning until it slipped. Hated the revised one because I felt so little restriction even with a large fill. I may just be in a honeymoon stage, but I'm six weeks out and am so glad I've been sleeved. I feel better with it and don't think I'll be able to work around it like I did with the band. 4. Hello, I'm 5 years post op with band and looking to get a revision to the sleeve. I need something that has long term success. I'm just very nervous about the surgery. How was the surgery? Your recovery process? I'm honestly looking for first hand accounts of patients who have gone through revision surgery. I want to hear the good/bad/ugly. I'm doing all my research in my spare time but with that I want to hear stories from people who have already gone through it. Thank you! Sent from my Nexus 6 using the BariatricPal App

    Questions

I had the revision in September and have lost total of 37lbs since day of surgery, my sister had surgery 3 years ago and had lost 50 lbs during same time period but she had more to lose than me. My Dr told me everyone is different and with the revision you sometimes weight loss is slower, but I am happy with my progress. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Nervous

I got my band in 1996 and struggled all these years. I was revised ok April 2016. It's been the best thing I've ever done. I'm about 10 lbs away from my goal. I've had.no issues at all.

    Nervous

Hey! I didn't realize how many people had band problems either. It's been nice to read what others have experienced. I can't help much with what to expect since I'm in my pre-op for revision starting today. My surgery is on 2/13. But I'll keep ya posted!

    Nervous

Hey guys! New here and this is my first post. I'm nervous about the revision surgery to RNY because of my bad experience with the Lap Band. I had it done like ten years ago when I was a lot younger, I'm 29 now. There has been a lot of guilt and shame from not meeting my goals. I was so ashamed I have spent most of my 20s trying to forget about it because I thought I was the only one who had this experience. Recently I have learned that I was not the only one who has been through this and it is very common. This has been very uplifting and I reached out to a surgeon who I plan on doing the revision to RNY procedure. I guess I'm looking for some people to connect with and share similar issues and experiences. Also I'm wondering what to expect. I'm 6'5" a bit over 400 lbs. Thanks for reading looking forward to a response. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. Hi guys! As I am preparing for my band to bypass revision, my doctor made it crystal clear I have to stop smoking. I have been smoking for about 5 years, which is terrible for me to even say, and I know I have to. if it came down to it I know I could just torture myself and do it cold turkey, but I am asking for advice or things that people have done that has helped them. I am considering the nicorette gum but again just asking for advice! Thank you!

    So I Did It!

I'm so happy to find this thread of people in the same thing I am. Scheduled to get my band out on Feb 8. My surgeon wants to wait 3-6 months before doing revision to allow healing. I haven't spoken with the surgeon too much about which procedure to pursue--RNY or sleeve. But I am leaning toward RNY mostly because it's a sure thing. I don't want to fail again. So I Did It!

This is all so great to hear! I am scheduled to have my revision from band to RNY on April 5th. I have been vomiting 5-6 per day for the last 3 months and I found a new surgeon who is excited for me to get this revision. Since I have had such a hard time with the band I am not so sure what to expect with the bypass but I am trying to do as much education for myself as i can!

    Denied By BCBS HELP

Bcbs denied my revision two days before my scheduled surgery (I had already been on the livershrink diet for two weeks). I fought them all summer, but finally it was a combination of hiring a Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy lawyer and my surgeon doing a peer-to-peer that got them to overturn the decision and pay for the surgery. I had jumped through all their hoops- six month doctor-supervised diet, etc. Don't give up hope! Denials can be overturned.

I'm new here, and I'm nervous!

Everyone has these fears. It is natural. You have made the decision to have the surgery now have the faith that the Dr will take care of you.You will be ok.You will be most comfortable in stretch waist pants for a while.Make sure you take that to hospital.I also took my favorite pillow,in a colored pillowcase so they know it is yours and not theirs.Make sure you have some ready made shakes like Premier Protein as well as powders if you are going to mix your own.Everyone is different what their Dr tells them.I was on liquid for 1 week then added mushies foods.Cottage cheese, greek yogurt, vegetable Soup that had been blended. It will take you a while to get and keep your protein and liquids up.A portable drink cup with a lid to take with your everywhere you go. I was sleeved in 2011 and had revision surgery Nov 2016 due to acid reflux issues.I was very concerned about both these surgeries but everything worked out fine.I have had 14 total surgeries. But having surgery for weight loss was scary because I had a choice.I have never regretted y decision about the surgery.I have lost another 30 lbs from the last surgery. You lose slower after a revision .You will probably loose at a fasted rate. I will keep you in my prayers for your surgery and healing.

DS or Sleeve? Six weeks out.

You are more likely to have issues with diarrhea & foul-smelling gas & stools with the DS but it does get better over time. The DS has much better long-term weight loss than the sleeve and better resolution of co-morbidities. Your higher starting weight with, I assume, a BMI over 50, is a reason to consider the DS over the sleeve. My highest weight was 314 lbs with a BMI of 50.7. I had a sleeve gastrectomy in August 2013 because, as a nurse, I wasn't comfortable with the amount of malabsorption of the DS. At that time, there was only the classic DS with a 50-100 cm common channel. Two plus years later I was down about 100 lbs but my co-morbidities were not significantly improved. I was still on 4 insulin injections a day plus Metformin for type 2 diabetes, three meds (one was a combo) for high blood pressure & medication for high cholesterol. As a matter of fact, my cholesterol med had been changed to a stronger one & then that dose was increased. I decided something more had to be done so, in December 2015, I had a revision of the sleeve & conversion to a single-anastomosis duodenal switch (loop DS AKA SIPS or SA-DS) with a 300 cm common channel. The first 2-3 months were a bit rough with the intestinal issues but, by 6 months out I was completely off all of the medications & by 9 months my PCP has removed the diagnoses of diabetes, hypertension & hyperlipidemia. So, my personal opinion is go for the SA-DS in the first place.
  15. Yes I would definitely join as I listened to my Dr that assured me this was safe and 7 years in I have had 2 port revisions and a band revision and now it needs to come out from the damage it's done to my stomach. I don't know how they get away with selling these things. I did lose my weight and just now have gained some back but that's not the point. Health is the point and this device puts people at risk and it's a temporary fix at best. So either way we should want our money back. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T377A using the BariatricPal App

If you have any questions or would like to meet for coffee sometime let me know. I'm off Thurs., Fri, and Sat. and usually off work by 4pm. Even though I've had the sleeve and a revision, I still like to meet with people who've had weight loss surgery because it's good to share experiences.

Low carb or everything in moderation?

I had the sleeve, not bypass. I do carbs in moderation. I have not had bread since July because I just haven't wanted it but have had Pasta once or twice and I eat lots of fruit which has carbs. I also have sweet potatoes once in a while. There is almost nothing I deprive myself of completely. I've lost almost 80 pounds since July and am about 10 pounds from my the goal weight I set at the beginning...though I am revising that down another 10 pounds or so based on how I look. 18. @lisylooby. I've had band to bypass two seperate surgeries. Two years of herendous complications forced removal of band. All was going well with bypass till week six when I started throwing up everything including water Ended up in hospital with stricture. Now three months later I've had five dialations I'm holding on till last minute as it's closing again next step is stent. If that doesn't work. Revision Hang in there There is a fix good luck
  19. Hi there! I am having my band to bypass revision April 5th 2017!
  20. Daenerys Targaryen

    Why did you choose bypass?

I revised from lapband to bypass because 1) I had reflux and sometimes sleeve patients have to revise to bypass due to reflux. I didn't want to have another surgery down the road. 2) bypass is the gold standard with the best success statistics and longest history 3) I have a lot of weight to lose and needed the biggest bang for my buck. I've lost 109 lbs since my revision surgery day six months ago. I am happy with my decision.
  21. I'm considering a revision from a lapband/plication to a bypass. Did your surgeon do the revision at the same time he removed the band? Are you happy so far?
  22. I recently had a revision of a gastric sleeve from a Lap band January 16th with the Bariatric Pal team. OH MY GOSH what an awesome experience. I live in Missouri and it was pretty hard to get the right flight in to fit the time schedule but they were amazing to work with me and helped me get a hotel to stay the night before. The surgery was very easy and Dr. Illian was so kind and sweet and listened to any fear and concerns I had about getting revision surgery, about the scar tissue, about not losing as well, about the size of my tummy all of it.. he was amazing and smelled good too!!! LOL I felt NO PAIN at all. I can’t say that will happen to everyone but the nurses were on top of it and I never felt once ounce of pain.. NO gas either.. Sure I was sore and I still am a little but it was amazing how little pain I have felt from MAJOR surgery. I was walking all over the places chatting with other patients and staff. So I was supposed to stay 2 days in hospital and two in the hotel but I only stayed in the hotel one day and they let me go home early due to a health issue with my mother. They were accomodating and so caring and kind. I was treated very well and having so many doctors to come check on me every day besides the nurses and the valet was always close by. Honestly, I got better care then in any regular US hospital. The hospital was as good as any hospital in US and the staff were very professional and treated me well. I loved my own room too.. that was a blessing and the Shower heads were great.. LOL... The hotel is beautiful.. the staff accomodating and the entire experience there was fabulous.... the shower there was great too! LOL I done self pay and it was well worth the price to ensure my health... Thank you Bariatric Pal Team- all of you for giving me my life back.. I will forever be grateful and in debt to you for saving my life.

    So I Did It!

hi all! I am now a gastric bypass recipient. So far the difference between the band and the bypass is night and day. No "stuck" feeling, no nausea. It's so different, and in the best way. I am only 1.5 weeks out, but even in this small amount of time, the bypass far exceeds my hopes already. the band sucked, was unhealthy and really not manageable for me. I thought about the revision surgery for 2 years after I got my band removed and gained any weight lost back. Finally went for it ,and I am glad so far. the only fly in the ointment is head hunger. I just keep telling myself that the feeling of wanting something will pass, and its just a feeling, not a biological need. if a scaredy-cat like me can do it, probably anyone can do it! ask me anything, or PM me, I am happy to share my experiences so far. and thanks for being so positive and supportive during my journey, from 2009 to today. Cheers!
  24. I had my band removed Monday and revised to sleeve in one surgery. My surgeon said my greatest source of pain would be the port area and he was right. The pain was awful and only starting to ease a bit. I wish I had done the sleeve 3 years ago instead of band. Can't even feel the sleeve incisions. I hate to complain because I know this was all my decision but I don't how everyone handles the liquids only diet so well. I don't start puréed until Tuesday and I'm so hungry. I need some advice and support. I don't know how I will last five weeks on puréed. Thank you.
  25. Hi. I had bypass on 12/05/16 and located in queens. Mine wasn't a revision so I don't know if there are differences but it's been great so far with one exception.
