All kinds of NSVs over here! Loose glasses, loose rings, my work badge hangs lower, my shoes are looser. So many! -
Back to normal food? And what dose NSV MEAN?

You will be able to eat normal food in just a few short weeks. NSV means non scale victories. Hang in there. -

Even though weight loss is a "simple" equation-expend more calories than you intake - it sure isn't an exact science! I tell ya - there must be a million other factors!!! I went in for my first fill today (I was sweating on the table and the doctor had to work the needle a little to find the right spot. Fortunately, I had novicane, but still, I was so nervous!). I thought FOR SURE I had lost 5 or 6 lbs. over the past 3 weeks of calorie counting, workouts burning 500-680 calories, etc. TWO POUNDS. That was all I'd lost, 2 lbs! I remembered what I'd read on the site . . . "The first weeks are just healing, don't worry, you don't have any restriction anyway . . . " Still, it was a bit disappointing. But I can still be pleased with overall loss so far & with the NSVs! I appreciate your post today because I need to avoid having unrealistic expectations, or maybe any expectations about the number of pounds I "should" be losing. I need eat right everyday, and trust the results will follow, at their own pace and own timing! Patience is the hard part because I'm so anxious for the FAT TO MELT AWAY LIKE WAX OFF A CANDLE!

Congrats, the NSVs are as good, and sometimes better than just watching the numbers on the scale drop!

I lost a letter. For the first time since high school, there is only one solitary letter on my bra size. I was not expecting this, but after struggling to find one to fit well, tried to drop from a double cup to a single and BOOM! It fits. I suspect this means I can now wear shirts with buttons. Wonderful stuff, but kind of like when I lost a shoe size it was completely unexpected and has left me bemused.

I think the funniest NSV I ever had was looking in a mirror at the grocery store, and not realizing that it was me in the mirror! This was, also, the day my daughter looked down an aisle and didn't see me, but I was there! Karen

This isn't my greatest NSV.. but my most recent. Over the weekend my daughter and I were looking at pictures of a wedding that we were both in back in 2005 (maid of honor and flowergirl).. and I was over 300 lbs. My daughter was almost 4 in the pictures and she's almost 10 now.. so she doesn't remember me being that big. She asked a couple questions about it and said she thought I was pretty then.. but thinks I look so much better now. It was really sweet.

Oh everyone is AWESOME, I am never ever disappointed by the positivity when I need it!!! I can't wait to shop for itty bitty Victoria Secret panties!!! My want list might be long!!! I want a pair of nice jeans! I picked up my 2 year old grand daughter and she is 32 lbs and I thought, Wow that's a lot of weight to carry around!!! I can also bend over easier!!! My bra's are getting fastened on the tighter fastener's now!!! Can't wait to see more NSV!!!

Hey Guys, How about a check in? How is everyone doing this summer? How is the WL and or NSV? Are people noticing your loss? Compliments? All's well here. I've had another fill last month for a total of 5 cc's in my VG10 band. I can feel the restriction and that is a good thing. I'm down 44 since surgery in January. My exercise is intermittent...but I do keep re-motivating myself..and tomorrow it is back walking my 3 miles. How are you guys motivating yourselves for exercise? What types of exercise do you do? Lets hear all about it. Shawn

86% will regain the weight they lost after WLS
gomekast replied to Dreamin Again's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My dietician told me last time I saw her that having wls isn't just about losing the initial weight during the beginning honeymoon phase. She said that the body continues to change every 3 or so months...and it does this as far out as 3 years post op. She said that a lot of people will initially lose more than their body wants, naturally causing the body to regain to it's set point. What she said really put things into perspective for me..knowing now that I need to be vigilant for years to come helps me in so many ways. I fought to get this far, and each pound and each NSV is worth the years of diligence it will take to keep it all off. I'm grateful for the warning. Everything is all about choice. We have amazing tools in our bodies yes, but we still need to make the choice with each bite we take. No one can make the healthy choices for us. I really think that regain is just a normal part of the entire process. That said...the process, I believe doesn't end when we reach goal. It really it just beginning at that point...again, this part is just my own belief. -
This weekend I went out and hit some garage sales looking for things for my son's new apartment. I saw this very cute denim skirt. It was a size 10. Knowing that I could never wear it I bought it for my daughter....it was only a quarter. I brought it home and, just for $hits and giggles I thought I would try it on and see how close I was to it fitting. I just went from 14 to 12 a couple weeks ago...in fact some 12's still don't fit. Well guess what? That's right...THE DARN THING FIT! Seriously???? Me!?? A 10???? Me who was a 28 just 3 years ago???? Sorry, Kid. Mom's keeping this one!!

NSV-Non Scale Victory
-
Star, That's a great NSV!! As a matter of fact, losing clothes sizes may be my favorite NSV.. .no, second favorite, but this is a family forum.
-
Sounds like a good idea. I had no scale in my apt. That way I couldn't weigh even if I wanted to. Remember, you had a DS. It's a mighty surgery. It would be very hard for it not to work. Also, about 3 months out, I was going into the shower & caught a glimpse of my reflection in the mirror. All of a sudden, I noticed my waist was curving inward. I knew right then & there things were changing. It was the start. There are many NSV to be had!

I thought he looked too lean and tall to be a purebred. Are the 'seers really that different body-type wise? I haven't seen too many pics of them but they always "looked" like a regular newf, just different colors. Have you been able to get Tug asleep long enough to measure him? Maybe YOU have the biggest doggie!!! Post pics of him, 'kay. Please!!!!! Compromise and communication are biggies in our house too. I just offer ALL of my best wishes to you in this. Still nothing? Dang! I was hoping you'd have good news by now! I'll keep praying for you and that new job! Hi!!! Glad you're having a good weekend. Congrats on the NSV!!! I can tell you are having SO much fun with all the clothes!!! Best wishes to your DD in whatever she decides. I know that you'll do all you can to help her and guide her. Still praying re: the job! Kat, hope you had a great weekend with the kiddos!!! ~~~~~ Okay, so was posting on another thread tonight when I heard a huge bang outside. The dog is throwing a bloody fit and heading to the kitchen side of the house. I turn on the front porch light and head for the kitchen door. It's got a window in it. This is important here. There is an outside light at that door that's on a sensor. Well, it's not on but the dog, who HATES going in the kitchen, is practically at the door! So I'm standing there, open up the shade and am flipping the damn light switch off and on to get the dumb thing to come ON!!! It finally does and Oh CRAP!!!! BEAR!!!!! Not FOUR FEET AWAY!!!!! It looks at me and dummy me is clapping my hands and telling it to go away. Ummm, yea, like it's going to LISTEN to me!!! So I turn to go get the camera b/c it's flippin' RIGHT THERE!!! And when I get back, it's gone. I am thanking GOD that I didn't do what I normally do and throw the door open to go see what was up. The light never came on b/c he came in on all fours so was too "short" to trip the light on. What I normally do is throw open the door and walk out to the garbage can (that sits right by the door) waving my hand up in the air to trip the sensor. I would have WALKED RIGHT IN TO HIM had I done that tonight!!!! GOD stopped me from opening that door. Since the light didn't come on, I would have no reason the think something was RIGHT THERE!!!! He'd knocked the can over and managed to get the lid off. I know better. I cleaned out the fridge today and locked the lid on it to keep the raccoons out but should have put it in the shed. Just didn't think about the bears. And the campgrounds are closed for the season so they're moving in to the neighborhoods to go after the garbage cans. So I know better. Lived here for 30 years! I should!!! Anyway, it stuck around for awhile, probably eating whatever it took out of the can b/c the dog was still freaking out for awhile. She's calmed down right now so he's probably moved on for tonight. He didn't make a huge mess but it'll be huge by morning. The 'coons will get in to it next and spread it all over kingdom-come!! But I'm not going out there TONIGHT to clean it up. It can frickin' stay there for now!!! On another note, I'm still sick. I hate being sick!!!! Oh man! It's 12:30, I'm going to bed! 'Night!!

What have you learned to love since WLS?
JustWatchMe replied to dhrguru's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Crossing my legs. Kale. Balsamic vinegar. Water. Blouses that button in front and stay closed when I sit down. Walking my dog. Sitting between people in the back seat of a car. Food as fuel (sometimes). Being satisfied with one Hershey's Kiss and having no desire for a second one. Or even the first one, really. Shaving my legs with ease. Reading about NSVs!!! -
I'll start with the good news! I went into Dress Barn the other day and the store is basically separated by "regular sizes" on the left and "plus sizes" on the right. For the first time in years, I didn't have to stay on the right side! I'm pretty sure I still could have fit into the smaller stuff in the plus sized section, but being able to fit into the "regular sizes" was too darn crazy for me to walk away from! Bad news is I haven't lost an ounce in the last couple of weeks. I consistently wonder if my calorie intake is too low (between 700-800, I'm 3.5 months post-op) but every time I try to see if I can increase it, I find I simply can't ingest any more food. The only thing I can think of to have more calories in the same volume of intake would be to up the fat content, but my NUT has me scared away from eating over 30 g of that a day. I'm frightened of carbs all on my own, so that never goes over 50 g (some will still say that's too high, I know.) I really should up the exercise a bit, but I doubt that's the main contributing factor--it's not like I've been sitting around doing nothing! Sigh, I wish I had more guidance, since they only seemed to give me any in the liquid and smushie stages. I just hope this snaps soon. Oh well, at least I have 3 cute new dresses, a cute new shirt, and cute new black skinny jeans!

Well Lisa, you certainly beat my "spin" picture. Ridin the bull is gonna be a hard one to top. I think you're inspiring me to get back into losing mode so I can come up with a photoable NSV to top that! YeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeHAW!

Anyone else scheduled for April 16th?
myturn2bhappy replied to scoobydoo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I totally agree with you on food being a day to day thing. I think it could be hour by hour for some. From what I've read, if you have a band problem you would know it. It sounds like it's very painful and NOTHING stays down. NSV for me- my jeans are baggy!! Now mind you they are the largest size I have worn. But who cares, because they are loose!! -
I am losing weight sort of like @@OutsideMatchInside - from the top down. I just posted two days ago about my helmet I wear for work fitting looser, especially around my cheeks. I just hope the loss continues, and rapidly. I would hate to end up looking like a pear. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/384197-i-guess-i-really-did-have-a-fat-head-nsv/
