I would suggest yogurt or pudding (sugar free/low fat). Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. Thanks everyone. Peanut butter seems to be going ok. I'll try some greek yogurt as well, I keep it on hand.
  3. Yogurt is good for all kinds of stomach/digestive troubles. That tends to be what I turn to when not feeling up to par.

    Crushing medications

You won't be able to do this immediately after surgery, but when you are cleared for sugar-free applesauce, it works pretty well. Same for a little yogurt or cottage cheese once you're cleared for those. Sorry, no cheerful suggestion from me for when you're on liquids only. Maybe you can mix Crystal Light or similar product into the Water. It still won't be fun, but perhaps better than plain water. Or any of the other liquids (but not hot ones). Some prescriptions should not be crushed or, in the case of capsules, opened. Check with your pharmacist about each of yours. If you get "Don't do it" as an answer, talk to your prescribing doctor(s). They may tell you it's okay to stop whichever drug for a short time.
  5. Hi all I'm still in the hospital hoping to leave later today as I needed a little attention due to type 1 diabetes and kidney failure but the thing is I'm starved. I have no trouble drinking soup, yogurt a container and even a Protein shake. After I'm content but not full and feel like I could eat again. Any suggestions Has anyone tried applesauce? Did that make you dump? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  6. As far as "fake sugars go" isnt there just as much in the premade Protein drinks, diet puddings, and other sugar free things. Sugar free anything makes me sick so I am panicked as to how I am going to choke down these Protein shakes and yogurts. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    September Sleevers!

@rososmom7, thank you. I do 2 Premier Protein shakes a day; one vanilla mixed in my coffee in the morning, then another midmorning to hold me until lunch, so that's 60 grams there from 5:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. I have a 20 oz Poland Spring mixed with Crystal light after that, so 2 shakes, coffee, and Water gets me to 50 oz of water. I really try to hit my water goal by lunch so I'm not going to the bathroom all night later on! Breakfast today was on the road, Dunkin Donuts' Wake Up Wrap (peeled off 1/3 of outer white tortilla.) Lunch was 8 oz high Protein vanilla yogurt, about 2 oz granola, 1/4 cup raspberries. dinner was a grass fed uncured jalapeño cheddar bratwurst, LOL.
  9. So my sleeve surgery is Monday but my very limited pre op diet of seven days gas been awful. I knew aspartame gave me mugraines so avoided that ingredient but got primere with sucralose and popsicles with the same as well as crystal light pure made with truvia which is stevia and a sugar alcohol My tummy has been hurting every day. I finally ate a bite of my mom's veggie omelette and was told if my blood sugar went hypo I could eat yogurt so my blood sugar wasn't quite hypo and I had nonfat Greek honey yogurt. Sure felt better but felt so guilty for cheating and like hope I'm not messing up my stomach prep for surgery Last night after crystal light pure, I threw up once with six episodes all this foamy stuff. Sorry tmi. Number two s been all the runs as well so called weight clinic nurse and they are having me quit all artificial sweeteners as they and I feel they are the culprit and allowing me Protein powder...found one with 25grams of protein and sweet with stevia which is a nature made plant and I can have it in skim milk!!!! Yay So stomach is already way happier and tge Protein Powder taste good not chalky Anyone else with similar problems... cheating, malabsorption??etc??

    First day of mushy foods

@@nikko9599 the slimies are when your mouth and throat start producing tons of clear slimey liquid like you might do right before you throw up -- but instead of throwing up, you just keep producing slimey fluid. Enough to hack mouthfuls and mouthfuls and gobs and gobs into the nearest toilet. You will also likely feel extremely nauseated, weak, and completely exhausted. It's hard to describe but when it happens to you, you know something is completely wrong and you feel miserable. People tend to get the slimies if they eat too much, too fast, or the wrong texture of food. I only got them twice -- once when I overate the yogurt I mentioned and another time when I stupidly took a mineral supplement pill on an empty stomach. Believe me, when/if it happens to you, you will never want it again!

    First day of mushy foods

No, it isn't bad at all. Don't push yourself to eat more than you want. 4 oz is a maximum, not a minimum. If I had tried to eat 4 ounces of ricotta cheese on my first day of purees I would have been in extreme agony. I used the wrong measuring spoon accidentally on my second day and ate 2 oz. of Greek yogurt instead of allotted maximum of 1.5 ounces and got the slimies as a result. When you are satisfied, stop! If you get to your allotted maximum of food and don't feel satisfied, stop anyway! Do not try to look for the "full" feeling or eat so much that you irritate your vagus nerve and get something like a runny nose or the hiccups. Stop before you get there. These guidelines will serve you well, I promise.

    Day 5 after Surgery

I think alot of it just different doctor preferences. I had surgery on a friday went hom sat night. Doc told.me i could very soft foods monday. I eat chili, eggs, yogurt for a week. My check up he said i could start eatting small bites of any meat just chew very well. Ive had zero complications no sickness and 6 weeks out today and lost 62 lbs. So dont be afraid to eat little things just small bites, chew ALOT, and most importantly dont over eat Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App
  13. Applesauce may help and last night I tried with lemon noosa yogurt and it was really tolerable. Someone else said sugar free cool whip, make a hole in it and then put your crushed meds in and take one bite and it goes down. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  15. How long after u eat do u wait to go to bed? My dr said after eating anything I should not sleep until an hour at least and if I drink even a sip of Water I need to stay up for half n hour before sleeping... I've had severe gerd issues before the surgery so I'm trying to stay away from any refluxes as well... also avoid anything spicy... even if u take any medicine or anything wait for an hour to sleep and since ur having issues right now elevate ur head while sleeping... and have more yogurt ... I had my surgery on 27/09 so I'm still fresh but this is what I used to do when I used to get gerd Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    No more weight loss

Your questions are excellent. I am eating pretty much the same foods I ate before but much lesser quantity. I don't drink protein shakes anymore. Today for example, I ate a half of English muffin, a half macaroni and cheese smallfrozrn dinner and a pickle. I'm not doing very good but I think it's because when I was doing good, I stopped losing weight. I am not on any exercise program as I have a knee that is needing surgery. I have diabetes on insulin and am taking prednisone for PMR. I weigh about 170..at 5ft 3inches. I know insulin and prednisone is bad. Sent from my SM-N930V using the BariatricPal App My goodness. I'm so sorry you went through such a traumatizing ordeal. I hope you have a reputable, ethical attorney who can pursue the malpractice case. I think persevering with it is worthwhile, primarily for your own benefit, but also for future patients. Other patients might have had an excellent experience with this surgeon, but there could also be patients who've been unacceptably harmed but not wanted to invest the energy and everything else into pursuing legal action. My husband is a physician, and there's a surgeon at his hospital who'd made several critical mistakes with patients but still had a flippant attitude about it until he was sued for malpractice. At your weight you're going to lose at a slower pace than someone heavier. I started out at a lower BMI and lost very slowly, with several stalls along the way. I eventually made it to my goal. Prednisone can be frustratingly problematic for many people. I gained weight while taking it, and also felt aggressive and far more emotionally sensitive, which effected my decision-making. Concentrate on what you do have the ability to change, which is your food choices. Meal planning might be helpful, so that you're making decisions in advance rather than in the moment. If what you've listed above is how you typically eat now, it's problematic for a few reasons. You're consuming far too few calories, which can actually stall out your weight loss because your body goes into a self-preservation mode. It's also primarily carbs and insufficient in protein and vital nutrients. Frozen dinners tend to be packed with sodium, which also is a weight loss saboteur. They're fine every blue moon if you're in a pinch, but shouldn't be a staple. You don't need to eliminate all carbs from your diet, but you do want to reduce them, and more importantly you want to choose ones that offer more nutritional value. My dietician advised me to minimize the amount of "white foods" I eat - bread, rice, pasta, mayo, sugar. Have them very sparingly, rather than as the focal point of a meal. One exception is plain Greek yogurt from one of the brands that is high in protein and low in carbs. My favorite is Whole Food's brand - it has 23 grams of protein, 7 carbs, and a lovely, creamy taste. Fage is another good option. I'll have yogurt with a small serving of a fruit that is lower in carbs and higher in fiber, like raspberries, or blend it into a smoothie. My daily lunch when it's hot is to have a smoothie with yogurt, frozen fruit, and frozen kale (freezing it helps with the texture). The fruit masks the taste of the kale. The carbs are vitamin-rich, and are balanced with protein. You can also get carbs in through vegetables. I like crispbread, particularly Trader Joe's brand, because it can be used as a substitute for bread for making an open-face sandwich, and is low in carbs and has some fiber. Tracking your food through a free site like MyFitnessPal would help you to see how many calories, carbs, and protein you're getting in. I'd aim to increase your protein, and reduce your carbs to around 50-70 per day. See how you feel, and how it impacts your weight loss. If you're still not happy, you could try reducing your carbs more, and follow something like Atkins 40, which tends to be more sustainable than the really low-carb diets. As for exercising, have you ever tried Pilates? I was prescribed Pilates-based physical therapy after a serious car accident a few years ago, and it was fantastic. My mom has also been hugely benefitted from PT over the years for back and hip problems. Best wishes to you!
  17. Hi there, just a quick question. I'm 5 weeks post op from having the sleeve done. Developed a lactose intolerance when I started on my dairy, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, string cheese. Doing better if I take a lactose medication before I eat. But the last two weeks I'm constantly nauseated. If I eat, if I don't eat, and I have absolutely NO appetite. My tastebuds have changed and everything tastes awful. Has anyone experienced any of this? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Late June Sleeve Buddies?

@@chycky Sounds like you're doing great! I laughed at the water/chicken/pee/yogurt/water/chicken thing...sometimes I feel like my entire diet is chicken, cheese, apples, coffee and sugar-free popsicles! Actually, that's what I ate today, along with one asparagus spears and 2 slices of boiled egg And I cleaned my closet out 2 weeks ago and got rid of virtually everything I owned. I took it all to our local thrift shop and donated it, minus some of the 'good' pieces that I gave to a friend who is planning to have WLS I was in a 16/1x when I had surgery and had been for a few years so I didn't have any 'skinny' clothes. I'm now proudly in 12/M and am rebuilding a wardrobe with end-of-season sales, etc. I've bought a couple of things in sizes 10 and 8, which BLOWS my mind, but if I lose another 50 lbs, I'll go down at least one more size, right? I wore a size 8 wedding dress and got pregnant 6 months later and have never gotten smaller than a 12 again. I'm with you in not holding on to anything big...I'm not going to make it comfortable to gain weight again.

What Is Your Beverage of Choice?

Plain Water, but has to be ice cold. I throw a couple of half-filled bottles in the freezer every day, then top them off with filtered water from the frige door when I'm ready to drink it. I have a bottle next to me or with me when I'm out and about. I'll have an occasional Cappuccino (maybe twice a week) with skim milk. Pre-workouts, I throw some Fairlife skim milk (ultra filtered, high Protein, very clean taste) in the blender with a few tablespoons of Greek yogurt, a few drops of coconut or vanilla extract, a few ice cubes and either a single frozen strawberry or a few slices of banana.
  20. @@Torriluv87 Open the capsule and sprinkle the medication (little balls) into a spoon with some liquid or sugar free pudding/yogurt (if you are allowed to have these things at the stage you're at). The medication ABSOLUTELY works out of the capsule. Your surgeon would not have given it to you if it didn't. Also, PLEASE don't rely on the posters here to tell you when you can or cannot take a pill. If you have a question, call your surgeon's office and ask them. Some people are cleared by their surgeon to resume pills in the hospital, some (like me) aren't allowed to take anything that won't fit through a straw for the first 3 months. What is right for YOU is what your surgeon tells you to do. Good luck!
  21. Hello! So glad to check back in with June buddies! So since 6/21 hw 367 cw 294.8 (Nekkid:) about 72 pounds down. I feel like been slow going but might be picking back up. I am changing up times for my Protein shakes. I do kind of have routine for liquid and protein so I still feel that weekends are hardest for me to get my Water in so changing that up a bit as well by having water after Breakfast (30 min + later) and then shake before lunch. Since I sleep more on weekends usually I have to pay attention to schedule. I have used my Fitbit tracking to keep accountable to eating and exercise. I do at least 5 days per week and have 2-3 of those days include weights. I just recently upped my level on elliptical and some weights I find it make it through the workout but not as fast as at easier level so on the machine it is saying I am burning less calories but have actually lost more since that change. Who knows. A local university has a program where they do resting metabolic rate bone density and body fat scans. It is not too pricey. I am considering doing this to help get a clear idea of what I am burning and need to burn. I wonder if my nut will be able to help or use the information on next visit, she is not most dynamic or informative sole. food wise I have had no real problems. I did buy papaya enzyme and used one time eating steak. I have red meat from time to time but really it's mostly chicken chicken chicken. My life is water pee chicken water pee yogurt Protein Shake water pee repeat. Clothing I have really thinned out closet as some items were just too big. I am still working way into items that before had been way too tight but look forward to donating all of it. I am not holding on to anything big!
  22. It has no corn syrup and is low calorie, at 40. I'd add some Protein powder and turn it into a really great snack. Is greek-style yogurt available in Canada? I never even both with traditional yogurt any more because greek is so high in protein. In the US, we can buy Oikos Triple Zero greek yogurt, it's my go-to now. I also like Fage plain greek yogurt. And despite some opinions, sugar-free popsicles are only 15 calories each and thus are a relatively harmless sweet, cold item. You can make your own with any sugar-free drink and popsicle molds.
  23. I don't know that I've had a typical day, but mostly a scrambled eggs for Breakfast, 1/4 cup cottage cheese or yogurt for a snack. A few ounces of lunch meat and a laughing cow cheese for lunch, a banana or part of a Protein smoothie for another snack and then a couple ounces of lean meat and maybe some cooked veggies for dinner. Day 5 liquid diet.

I'm on day 8 of my 2 week post opp diet. Yah it's hard. Ive been having tomato Soup and peace and ham . Just feel like it's a meal more than a shake or yogurt. Think of the long term . Your body needs these 2 weeks to heal. Good luck Sent from my SM-G925F using the BariatricPal App

    Hunger pains

In the first few days after surgery It was a struggle for me to get all my fluids in and wasn't hungry at all. I only started feeling hungry again at the end of my 11th day. Yesterday was day 12 and the hardest day of the post op liquid diet. I was so sick of vanilla and chocolate flavored everything, I started putting some spices in my yogurt and Protein shake (cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice) which helped. Today my surgeon cleared me for the next phase. I never thought I'd be happy to eat puréed foods, but oh how I am! Just had 1/8 cup soft scrambled eggs, delicious!
