    Full liquid suggestions?

@@mollydeez for the smoothie what I would do is get some organic low fat plain yogurt and add a skinless seedless fruit in moderation along with Water. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. Full liquids are tough to get creative with, but I had a few good things. I got potato, bacon and cheddar low fat cream Soup and blended it until it was smooth and that was probably one of the best things I ate. I also got some Cinnabon flavored cream of wheat and made it with unsweetened almond milk. Cinnamon applesauce, sugar free pudding cups, greek yogurt, cream of chicken soup. It's not easy but it was a DEFINITE step up from clears.

    Possible weight gain?

Not really starving myself, having Protein shakes with greek yogurt, strawberries, pumpkin puree, carrot puree, light cranberry juice. That's only twice a day. Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App

    Sugar free... forever?

I agree with @bufflehead. I'll do real sugar if it is a small amount and it's "worth it" but I try to use other sweeteners for foods that normally are high in sugar. Overall I just avoid sweet stuff. I always hated fake sugar preop. I started trying stevia products, which I find slightly more tolerable. I still don't love it but I can deal with it for certain foods. For example, greek yogurt is such a great source of healthy Protein, but many brands have a ton of sugar! I eat a stevia or splenda version of those. However, to sweeten my morning tea, I use the real thing because I use such a small quantity. Also, I'm trying to see food as fuel, not a primary source of pleasure so eating fake sugar foods is less likely to make me want to overeat them. Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App

    Need to know.

I eat All Bran Buds mixed in with my yogurt all the time for the fiber. I also eat old fashion shredded wheat. You know the giant pillow looking thing? I just let it soak up all the milk it can hold. Good carbs are not something to be afraid of, they are necessary! Sent from my phone. Please forgive brevity and spelling.

    Why no preop diet?

My surgeon only does a 3 day pre-op diet, and I can have yogurt, low fat soup, and cottage cheese as well as Protein shakes, etc. He does a liver biopsy during surgery because most obese people have a fatty liver. I don't know if I have one now, I wonder how many people even know before surgery? Is there any other way to diagnose it?? I just googled it and it says that they can diagnose it by doing an ultrasound or MRI. The article that I mentioned in my other post, said that most obese people have it and if you don't, then you are pretty lucky. Maybe the surgeons just assume you do and do the liquid diet just in case. I'm not sure if they can tell by blood work or not. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Is it too early for eggs?

I'm only 6 days out and I'm not allowed to have meat yet, not even puréed. I'm on Protein shakes, yogurt, thinned not cereals, cottage cheese (which I'm told has too be mashed with a fork but I don't eat it anyway)and mashed potatoes.. I haven't attempted mashed potatoes yet. I thought puréed meat was around 15 days post op. Sent from my 5054N using the BariatricPal App

2 weeks post op and FREAKING OUT!

Thank you! This not only cost me a lot financially, it is costing emotionally. I really don't want to screw this up. Today, for ex I had a Protein shake for Breakfast, 2 small pieces of salmon baked for lunch, veggie/red lentil Soup, no fat and a tiny bit of greek yogurt 0% fat with frozen berries and I am up a lb maybe 2. I'm super nervous!

Do any of you vets completely ignore this rule?

I am a newbie and had my surgery on May 27th and have had issues since. My surgeon said I could have flat Soda if that helps. Right after I had surgery I had no interest in food or drink and was in a ton of pain. I ended up taking dilaudid for 3 weeks and I also had mild nausea so I took zofran every so often. I finally was feeling okay again and then 2 days later the extreme nausea hit. I took my 8 mg zofran and it did nothing, I thought maybe I was hungry so I tried to eat..huge mistake. I threw it up and the nausea got worse and then the pain started. I gave it another day and when I still felt so sick I went to the ER. Just the smell of coffee made me want to throw up. I could not be around food or think about food I was so nauseous. I ended up staying in the hospital for 9 days and they did an endoscopy to open up a kink I had in the connection from my stomach to my intestines. They put a picc line in and I had to give myself infusions every night to give me fluids and nutrients since I couldn't eat or drink. I did not eat or drink anything for over a month because of the horrible nausea. I finally was able to start eat and drink a bit a month or 2 ago but I still have issues getting enough Protein and Fluid in. I am trying all different Protein drinks and powders but I'm really only able to eat a yogurt small amounts of protein throughout the day. Right now my intake st each meal is a 5 oz yogurt or 2-3 oz protein and 1 oz veggies. I had been giving myself those infusions all the way up to a week and a half ago. That was when I had my second blood infection from the picc line and landed me in the hospital again. I often read the stories of others experiences and how great they are doing and I can't help but be jealous. My surgeon assures me that this is normal and it happens to a few people after the surgery. He said it should go away after a few days or months, they aren't sure. Well it has been months and I'm still suffering. It has been a long road. I had my gallbladder removed last Tuesday and went home from the hospital on Wednesday. I was back in the ER on Saturday and am now in the hospital again awaiting results from tests to see why I am in extreme pain with vomiting... Even though I have had a really tough time I don't regret the surgery. It's saved my life. Starting weight:540 Surgery weight :480 Current weight:383 I wish you the best of luck! 12. I concur. Eat! Eat your protein! Are you tracking your Protein and calorie intake? And if not, how do you know what you need to do to get your weight loss moving again? You're at the 'easy' 65-70% of weight loss that's touted as the average loss with WLS. To get to the goal line, you've got to work harder and smarter. Your body is now complacent, and you need to shake things up. Increase protein, fluids, calories and activity. Eat ONLY lean protien and veggies with every meal and only protein rich Snacks like cheese, nuts, Jerky and greek yogurt. Get rid of the sugar and carbs. Try to steer clear of processed food. Everyone is different, but at a year out you should be at at least 1000-1100 calories and 80-90 grams of protein. You follow those guidelines, and I gaurantee you'll get to where you want to be in no time. If you really want it, you get there.
  13. Variety? I really liked hot bone broth (fairly high in protein) and would get different flavors or have my husband doctor it up and strain it. chicken bone broth simmered with a Parmesan rind; beef bone broth with a spoon of miso paste stirred in after heating (bonus probiotics); or some of the flavors like chicken and ginger, maybe with a splash of soy. He'd put it in a thermos for me and I'd just work on drinking a couple of ounces at a time for hours. If I was having a hard time with Protein, he'd add extra Gelatin to the Soup. I should have seen if the Pho place could have sent plain broth... I also liked the ... Sleepytime Peach Tea, maybe? I think it was Celestial Seasoning. It was chamomile and peach, with a little mint that soothed the stomach. No protein, but good for staying hydrated. Hot liquids were a lot easier in my stomach, though I also threw in a teaspoon of collagen powder sometimes. If you're low on calories (and it's not a gateway drug, I mean food) you can always add a quarter teaspoon of raw honey. I also liked the Syntrax nectar fruit flavors, really watered down. They're just so much thinner than most Protein shakes and more like flavored Water. I also really liked the Ultima Replenisher (stevia sweetened/no cal) electrolyte powder for getting hydrated, and would sometimes add a scoop of the Syntrax Medical Unflavored. As I improved, I added Greek yogurt with a few drops of flavored stevia (couldn't stand it that way before) and kefir, sweetened the same way. Jello was great for mouthfeel, and Eggface has great recipe where she combines it with Greek yogurt for a creamy, jello salad kind of thing. You can mix Protein Powder straight into Greek yogurt (I think I used a Nectar fruit flavor) but it was a little thick/weird. Eggface also tells you how to mix SF pudding into protein powder to get it to set up. (Seriously, her website is bomb and she has a whole section on liquids and purées.) But yeah, an hour at a time and weeks of doing nothing but eating, drinking, and moving around to get rid of gas. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

At your stage I ate a lot of soups with added protein powder. I add avocado to everything I can to incorporate healthy fat. I drizzle olive oil on anything I eat that it tastes good with. I love healthy fats and it's easy to get in calories with it. Fats are not evil if they are good fats. I add nuts to Greek yogurt and chia seeds to protein shakes and smoothies. It's easy to get to 1200 calories, even staying in plan with a restricted ability to eat. I make the calories healthy and count.

    So....about my pee.

I am going to up my fluids even more see what happens. I drink one 30g Protein shake per day, and have a protein whip greek yogurt plus chicken, fish, and/or eggs for lunch and dinner. Still on soft foods for a few more days but I get at least 60g of protein a day per my tracking. As for weight loss, I think I am on track. I'm down 46# since pre-op diet started 09/19 and 34# since surgery 09/29. Thanks for your input.

What is on your Trader Joe's Shopping List?

TJ'S bruschetta was a staple during soft foods. They have single serving brie packages that I have to fight the kids for. Their fresh edemame is wonderful. I drink the kefir because it's significantly higher in Probiotics than yogurt. Their roasted seaweed is a delicious, low calorie, savory snack. And I adore their riced cauliflower. Their creamy tomato Soup got me through liquids. I also buy my sublingual B12 there. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

Cake or no cake? Cake substitution?

Happy early birthday! I had my surgery October 7, the day after was my 35th birthday. I get it. I'll be having a birthday celebration this weekend with family, cake free, and will probably put some pumpkin pie spice in my yogurt and call it a day. The surgery is my birthday gift to myself and I don't want to do anything to ruin it. I am looking at it as a tool to help me change my relationship with food and be healthy. Whatever you decide, I would suggest stay on your surgeon's recommended plan of what you can eat. If it'll be too tempting for you, I would ask to not even have a cake present. Maybe have a sugar free Jello or pudding as the dessert. Hopefully everyone in your circle will be supportive. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Full liquid suggestions?

So I was where you are now... I was sleeved on 10/6. I ditched all the Protein that everyone suggest prior to. I went and got the pre-made premiere shakes which were a lot more palatable and easier to get down. And one 11oz shake has 30g of protein! But you can now make low fat yogurt smoothies... you can do cream soups strained ... it's going to get better I promise. Cottage cheese... I swear I can say I was you. It will get better. Hang in there! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. Are you having any Protein drinks or shakes? Do you just keep going back to liquids? What protein are you keeping down? Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App I can put GENEPRO in my yogurt and sometimes get a premier Protein shake down(I have to force myself but it depends on if I can get my gagging under control). 20. I am 1 month post op and feel the same way. I am at my breaking point today because whatever I try to eat grosses me out from the smell. I am struggling with meat and can not eat cottage cheese or eggs which I use to love. I am snuggled in bed knowing I ate yogurt for Breakfast and a tablespoon of mashed potatoes for lunch. I attempted chicken for dinner and couldn't get through the first bite. Please say this gets better?? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. I used to love fried zucchini with ranch. I thought the parm zucchini fries with a greek yogurt ranch would be a diet friendly way to get similar flavors. Anyone try the parm fries? How did they come out? Flavor and in apperance/texture. HW 385 SW 359 Sleeved 10/5/16

    Full liquid suggestions?

There are other options for protein. Get some of the flavorless powder like Genepro and mix it with other liquid stuff you're eating, like yogurt or even Crystal Light. It works well and gives you a nice change from those shakes. I agree, after four weeks of almost nothing but shakes, I was ready to be done with them.

Depending on where you are in your program there are lots of options. Off the top of my head: protein pudding, protein shakes, protein bars, fresh fruit/berries, protein hot chocolate, Greek yogurt, etc.

    Almonds

@@PLEZ Can I ask why it's not cutting it? Are you hungry? Before my op I did my research on the highest Protein sources and I keep a list in my journal for easy reference. For Snacks I would recommend Greek yogurt, a hard boiled egg, 1/2 cup cottage/ricotta cheese, or edamame... I don't think there is anything wrong with snacking on a few nuts BUT almonds are 3.9 grams of protein per 20 gram serve which is around 120 calories. Plain low fat Greek yogurt however is 16.5 grams of protein for a whole tub and depending on what brand, is around the same calories as 20g of nuts. So you're getting 16.5g protein vs 3.9g for the same calories, and yogurt will fill you longer. *sorry for the novel :/ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
