    Throwing up after meals?!

It will definitely get better, but you just have to train yourself to eat really slowly and stop BEFORE you feel full. Like eat half of what you think you can, and then stop for at least 10 minutes. I remember that so well. I would feel just fine, assessing my fullness after each bite.... and then suddenly WOW! TOO FULL and sick. It's hard, because we had decades of just eating fast and swallowing mindlessly. Now we have to unlearn that behavior and slow it waaaaay down. It's hard, and frustrating. But it will get better, I promise. For now, just stop way before you think you need to.
  2. Ha! It's called LIFE! And developing resilience! And perspective. My poor little daughter-in-law has 10/10 pain with a mosquito bite! No kidding! My favorite all time quote: " Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather a skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, "Wow! What a ride!" Hunter S. Thompson

DO YOU THINK THE SURGERY WAS WORTH IT?

I would, for myself, do the surgery 10 times over again for the way I feel right now- but I haven't had the complications you have endured, either. I am so sorry you have had it so rough! I hope as time goes on things will settle down health wise for you and become much, much easier. Wishing health and happiness for you... 💙

    Insurance recommendations...

My approval from Cigna was less than 10 days after my upper GI, showing severe GERD. I had the surgery within a few weeks after that. I hope yours goes as quickly and that you feel much better.

    October sleevers?????

I'm scheduled for my VSG on 10/28. Just found out my surgery date 2 days ago. Reviewing all the "WHY'S" in my head to psych myself up and not get overwhelmed. My why"s are 1) Be healthy overall once again 2) Be able to be a fun, active grandma to any future grandchildren my daughters bless us with 3) Be comfortable and confident with my appearance. My younger daughter is getting married 2/29/2020 and I look forward to not having to shop in the plus sized section for dresses!! My older daughter got married 6/17/2017 and dress shopping was almost depressing! Ended up in a size 16 or 18, and limited the selection to choose from. Plus had to wear Spanx to hold everything together. Dress was beautiful, but I still felt like I was being judged. Some relatives at the wedding I hadn't seen in many years, when I was a size 6/8. I know they were wondering why I let myself go. 4) Be able to travel and not feel like I am cramming myself into the plane seat. Have the energy to sightsee and not get tired out and want to sit down and rest, or avoid climbing up or down a sand dune or hill to get to the beach. And wear a 2 piece swim suit without hiding under a coverup! I am concerned about the 2 wk liquid diet. I will be working quite a few of the days I have to be doing it. Only a few gals know I'm having WLS. I may or may not tell anyone else. I was thinking if someone asked, I'd say I'm having gallbladder removal. Will I feel like absolute crap at work like lightheaded, dizzy, headaches, brain fog, nausea? I try to tell myself that I may be too busy at work to dwell on it, and the time will pass faster than if I was sitting at home watching the clock. I'm an RN working post-partum, nursery and pediatrics. What is the normal time off of work for those of us who do not have a sedentary desk job? When can I swim again in my new swim spa? I see the surgeon in 2 days for my pre-op appointment so I'll definitely ask. Good luck to all October patients!! You've got this!!!

    July 2019 Surgery Siblings Post-Op

Walked around Marshalls today and found a cute top on clearance. I wasn't planning on buying clothes until I was well down in weight but this one was too cute and too cheap to let go. Happy to say I was able to purchase a 1X instead of 3X, 2.5 months after surgery. That's the good news. The bad news is that last summer, after watching the Tidying Up show, I decided to get rid of all my "too small" clothes (1X). Oh, they were so nice and now I have to start over again! What I did not expect about weight loss is that my shoe size would also go down. My size 10's are slipping off and 9.5 is feeling good. Oh no! I have so many shoes! Oh well, it's all good as long as I'm losing weight!

    The Maintenance Thread

first, you might want to try to go 10 lbs or so UNDER where you want to be. Bounce back is real. It's not inevitable, but it does seem to happen to the vast majority of us. secondly, once you get there, you'll have to figure out your maintenance level of calories. Go up about 100 calories/day. If a couple of weeks go by and you're still losing weight, go up another 100. Rinse and repeat. Once you get to the point where you're not gaining and not losing (for a lot of us, it's a range), you're in your sweet spot. Then your goal is to keep within that range every day.

    8 weeks post op...

Remember that each of us starts in a different place. Even if we were to find someone the same age, gender, height,HW, and SW, you STILL wouldn’t be able to compare yourself because there are so many many complicated factors and biological systems involved with weight gain and weight loss. I guess about the only people who could compare themselves would be identical twins, and even that could be dangerous. As of today I’ve lost 88 pounds PO and my surgery was 2-6-19. I know many in my February group who’ve blown me out of the water in number of pounds lost, but I’m less than 4 pounds from GW and couldn’t be happier with my progress. My progress was “slow, and steady”, but I’m almost there. I won’t quite hit GW by Saturday, and the story of this entire process for me has been falling short of monthly weight loss goals (I think in the 8 months PO, I’ve only hit a goal on time just ONCE) but I’m going to keep plugging away and working the plan. Guys, this is a marathon, not a sprint bc it is something that will have to be managed for the REST OF OUR LIVES.

    Im hungry

I didn't have to do purees - went straight to softs. But in my full liquids phase here is what I thrived on. It helps with hunger to keeps carbs to 20g or less per day. Swearsies. 1. Cottage Cheese or ricotta (ricotta bake from WorldAccordingToEggface blog) 2. Foil wrapped tilapia and basa filets with lemon 3. Chicken or tuna or salmon salad blitzed to a puree (pate) consistency with lots of Greek yogurt and dijon mustard to make it super creamy and smooth. You can even lighten it up with ff Fairlife Milk. 4. Cream soups with extra protein powder added to them. (Did this A LOT!! Made every flavor you can think of: pizza, alfredo, mexican, asian, etc.) 5. Blended soups/stews to a puree. 6. SF jello with yogurt (still love it) 7. SF popsicles 8. Protein pudding (SF jello pudding made with Premier Protein and FF Fairlife Milk) 9. Green smoothies made with protein powder, frozen spinach, frozen blueberries, peanut butter powder, liquid stevia. 10. Roasted Smashed Cauliflower puree with greek yogurt, nutritional yeast, and herbs. Same thing with canned pumpkin.
  16. I had RNY on Feb 5, 2019. My hair loss started mid May and ended about mid July. I already had thin, fine hair to begin with so the loss was very noticeable (to me at least). Now here I am in October, 80 pounds down, and my hair is growing back! The pictures are of my bangs because it’s so noticeable there, but I have inch long hair all over my head. It makes my cowlick more obvious so I’ve been wearing a lot of ponytails to try to control it. My hair looks pretty awful with the little hairs standing straight up all over, but I’m thrilled it’s growing!

I only went to the hospital twice before my op. The first one was when I discussed the idea with the surgeon and made my decision. The second one was when I went to see a nurse a week before the op: she weighed me and took some bloods. I was in and out in 10 minutes! It sounds quite abrupt, but I did have good support afterwards: I can speak to a bariatric nurse whenever I want to.

I cant believe how far I have come..

Congratulations! We had surgery 10 days apart! It’s an amazing tool!
  22. Hi, I'm 2 months post OP and so far i'm down 35 lbs since surgery. I'm hoping to lose another 31 lbs by the end of the year for a total lose of 100 lbs.since January. I'm currently averaging a loss of 2 lbs a week with little exercise. I'm working on adding more excercise to my daily routine. I'm currently working 13-15 hour days. I'd much rather be at the gym but when I get home I am just so exhausted. I know I need to cut back my hours and soon. Hope my July surgery siblings are having success losing!! Weight loss goals

I have 2 goals. 1st is the doctors goal. He said I should be able to get down to 160. I was 226.8 when I first say him and 205 the day of surgery. I am 5'4". I think 160 is way too high and I am certain I can get below that now that I have this new tool. My goal is 135. For BMI... I could go well below that, but I look too thin if I am less than 130. 135 was my healthy weight 10 years ago. Hoping to get close to that. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Any September Sleevers?

Omg so happy to hear that. Everybody talks about the gas pain being horrific. That is the part that has me nervous. Other then that I'm excited to begin the journey it's been a long 10 months to get to this point. Where you able to take something for the constipation?
