  1. I felt terrible yesterday. Pain, nausea, and GERD. Called WLC and they guided me through the GERD. I stayed in bed all day. I'm a little better today, but very tender. Took one big nap. I feel like I've been set back from recovering. It almost feels like day 1. Anyone get sick this early?

    Michigan anyone?

I live in Flint also and Dr. Kia did my surgery. He is the best. I have had no complications and I'm 10 months out now and down 144 lbs. They do have support groups once a month. I don't usually go because of work, but I would love too.

    Band Comes Out January 29th!

Glad to hear your doing really well. It's the count down for me. Pre op is Tuesday and surgery 2/10. Did you find out why you had to have a drain? Maybe Dr. Higa does them on all his sleeves? I'll have to find out if it's routine with him on Tuesday. I've had a drain before so if I get one no biggie I guess. I look forward to seeing your progress and I'll post as soon as I can after surgery. Cheers to you!!

Less than 48 hours to go!

Had my band out in December and getting sleeved on sept 12. I had already gained most of my weight back prior to band being taken out have gained 10-15 lbs since its removal. So, basically starting from scratch! I've wondered about wl with so much time in between. I've heard revisioners often don't lose as quickly as first time wls peeps, but with so much time in between I wonder if that will still be the case?? Good luck!!
  6. I feel dizzy a lot of the times now and I have no energy. I take Vitamins and try to eat at least 3 times a day. I was 218 pounds and now I'm 125 pounds. The doctor said I should of stopped loosing weight and lost 10 more pounds since he told me that. I don't have energy to exercise. I don't want to loose anymore weight. I've been to the hospital and they couldn't come up with anything. I fear if I keep loosing weight I will look sickly. I feel sick. When I eat something other then Soup my stomach hurts. I always feel nauseous after eating. Any suggestions? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Update on OCt sleevers.....

I had surgery 10/12 and tomorrow I have my 2 wk visit and start my pureed stage. I have been doing well, very little nausea, Hardly any pain and going to the bathroom everyday. I am oh so looking forward to tasting food. I am having to crush my pills in applesauce. Yuck!!! I have already planned my meals for tomorrow!#! Lol I hope it goes well and I tolerated the texture of the pureed food. I'm thinking of trying refried Beans first and scrambled eggs. I have researched on several sites for ideas for the pureed stage. Pinterest has some really good recipes for sleevers. I am so excited. Sent from my LGLS996 using the BariatricPal App

    Time for exercise

I started my LB journey because of the pain my body was going through, just trying to keep up with basic daily activities. Since being banded I have done very little exercising, due to said pain. The years of carrying around 100+ extra pounds has left me with bone on bone knee joints. Yes, taking off 100 lbs has help, but the damage was done. My weight also was beginning to stall b/c of my slow metabolism, I needed to start exercising. 10 days ago, I had a Lt total knee replacement ( Rt is scheduled for Sept 11) and I am so excited by just what I can now do with my physical therapist. 4hrs after surgery they expected me to just stand up and then sit in a chair. I was able to walk down to nurses station and back ( I had farthest room from ns). Yesterday PT had me doing stair climbing, say what???? lol 10 days later I'm ready to get rid of my cane. Hoping for the same results on the right knee (xray said that was my worse knee) I am so excited about my new future! Thanks to the LBS for getting me there! Weight goal here I come, one step at a time.
  10. I am still not at goal. I started at 233 when I had my surgery end of Nov and a little over 5 months out I am down 53lbs and still have 30 more to loose. I have had to let go of every expectation I had and just realize I am going to get there. I might not get there by my birthday next month, or even by summer this year, but I am going to get there and after I get there, I won't care that it took longer. In my experience, only here people care, in real life everyone asks me how much I have lost and they are very happy for me. If I whine to my friends in real life that I am a slow looser, they put me in my place. Even my fitness obsessed friend said she can't loose 10 lbs in a month the healthy way. 8 if she is lucky and that is not consistent. So just realizing you will get there and will it really matter that it took you 1 or 2 or even 4 extra months than you planned?? than you will be happier and more relaxed in this journey. Just keep an eye on whats going in your mouth and enjoy the ride.

    Please help

Yes, welcome to bandster hell...it is such a miserable place to be, but we have ALL been there! You have to be diligent with getting your fills and you WILL get out of there, I promise! I have found if you call your doctor's office 4-5 days after a fill and tell them you have no change in restriction a lot of times they will schedule you to come in sooner for another one....don't be shy in asking for what you need to! Unfortunately until you get to a place where you feel true restriction you will feel as if this is a diet and it is SO not fun....but please know we are here to support you, anger, frustration...we have ALL been there and understand what you are feeling! I am "only" 10 lbs or so from my goal....but I have been going up and down 2-3 lbs for months now...which has totally frustrated me to no end! But I know it is the choices I am making in my foods and splurging too much with birthdays, etc...so I have to buckle down and get to exercising, too! Do what you can to make small changes....they will add up!
  12. I'm 5 weeks out. No problems with food but fluids nauseate me. 32 ounces a day is my max. Also about 50 grams of protein. I have multiple food allergies which make so hard. Highly allergic to soy, wheat, sea salt so almost all protein shakes and protein bars are out. This is very difficult because salad was what I ate prior to surgery with fat free cheese which only has 2 grams of protein per slice. I guess I probably only got 10 grams of protein per day prior to surgery my whole life since I ate mostly vegatables and it is very annoying eating all things I don't like now to force eat protein!!

OT: Anyone do the Disney Cruise?

WE LOVE CRUISES!!! I have been on 14 of them now. I loveeeeeee them. They are the BEST way to vacation! And the most bang for your buck. I have been on Disney twice. Both times I wasn't really impressed. I agree that Royal Carribean Cruise Lines is my top choice for cruising. Unless you are a HUGE Disney fan and absolutely want the Disney feel, then go to another cruise line. Disney is expensive and not really all that great. RCCL also has the best kids programs in my opinion. Your daughter will LOVE it!! The worst time to cruise in the Carribean is Late July-Mid October. Hurricane season. Those are the best rates though. It is a gamble though because seas can be rough and itinerary can change. I like cruises in April and May. January is good too. We prefer the 5-7 night cruises. 3 and 4 day cruises seem too short, 10 and 14+ cruises are wayyyyy too long. Regarding cruises: the best way to have the most fun is to GET INVOLVED! Go to the shows, enjoy the games, shuffleboard, ping pong, rock climbing, do the trivia games, karaoke, casino, bingo, go to the talent show, etc etc. There is a list of all that is going on every day in your room. Take a highliter, mark them and go to them! IMPORTANT: A MUST MUST MUST see on every RCCL cruise ship is the Quest game and the Newlywed game!!! You must not miss it, hilarious!!! Also, pick a shore excursion. There is only so much shopping and looking you can do at each port. At least one excursion is good. Remember that you will be tipping at the end of the week. It usually is around $150 at the end of a week. Enjoy the formal dinners in the grand room. I know it is a pain in the ass to have a set time to eat, but it really is worth it to go! The most important advice I can give is to have a carry on bag with a change of clothes for the cruise, swim suit and dinner clothing and lounging on the ship clothes that night!! Sometimes your bags don't get delivered to your room until late that night. It sucks to be stuck in warm weather with calypso music playing and you are in a sweater and courdoroys, no make up, airplane hair, with your parka wrapped around your waist!! I can't wait until RCCL's Freedom of the Seas!!! We are going next November!! WOOOOT!!! And I will bet you all a Twinkie I will be going on that surfing thing!!
  14. Yep I'm right there with you. I'm losing about the same - 2 lbs a week. I finally decided that 10 lbs a month was going to be my goal and I will live with it. I'm 52 and post-menopausal and I can't do major exercise because of really bad osteoarthritis in my knees. I have no cartilage left and I'm bone on bone. I start aqua arthritis classes on Monday 3 times a week so I'm hoping that helps.

    Update on OCt sleevers.....

Surgery 10/18 and started puree this Thursday and eating is freaking me out. I've tried yogurt, cottage cheese, lentil soup and Saturday I tried premade pouch tuna salad. I assumed the nausea I was experiencing was from my cancer meds but maybe it's from the surgery too. Today was the first time I didn't lose over night. Trying not to freak out. I finally found a way to get all the Protein in..... flavorless GENEPRO in sugar free pudding (1tblsp = 30g) Still in muscular pain from the surgery and exercise is still difficult but I'm building up every day. I do see the loss in clothes. Mostly shirts as my abdomen is still kind is swollen. I did make the ricotta bake but found myself eating too much. Anyone else having trouble determining full.... at first with liquids I figured it out right away. Now I can't really tell which scares me. Sent from my SGH-T999 using the BariatricPal App

    Update on OCt sleevers.....

Sleeved on 10/3, but had twisted sleeve which was corrected on 10/6. Spent 2 weeks on liquids due to swelling and nausea etc. I was going to the bathroom fine. Still on IV fluids when I can't get in liquids. This week has been great though. I have been able to keep down all liquids including soups and puree. Protein has been through protein fruit drinks like Atkins 20g and pineapple fruit drink I bought from my surgeons office 15g which is my favorite. Energy getting better and grateful I have the time to take off. Hopefully I can move to soft foods next week. My sleeved friends were right......the first 3 weeks were hell for me. Seeing the light at the end of the tunnel now and thankful for my husband who would not let me get discouraged..
  17. Hello all! It's normal to be nervous. As long as you follow your surgeon and NUT's instructions you will be fine. July 31st is my 1 year anniversary. I've lost 100 pounds. I would like to lose another 10 pounds but I'm happy either way. I feel better and have a lot more confidence. I was out of work for 2 weeks and 3 days. I had gastric sleeve, my gallbladder removed and a hiatal hernia. The health benefits outweigh the risk. Good luck ladies.
  18. Hello, I guess this is the first step that makes it a realization that I am ready for a significant change. I have been fighting my weight for about 10 years now. It was found that I had hypothyroidism about 4 years ago. (5 years after gaining all the weight.) I have been on meds. and my THS is controlled. Well, the weight still is out of control. I am right at 40 BMI and am afraid that it will not be dramatic enough for imy insurance company to cover the lap band. I have a significant family history of diabetes and cancer, and am nervous that these things might await me if my weight continues to be a factor. A year ago I was 30 pounds lighter due to excessive dieting and workouts. Also, I used Merida for extra help. Well, I stopped Merida and the weight came right back on. I have my initial appointment in a week. I guess I will see what the nurse's thoughts are regarding my qualifications. Are there others out there who were approved based on a 40 BMI?

    What am I doing!?

Thanks so much for your reply! I understand this stuck incident but what is really weird is that I don't feel any kind of restrictions at all. I never bothered asking my doctor either if I have any fluid in my band. I'm able to eat like normal and drink like normal. Am I supposed to feel this way at 10 days post op?

How exactly is "excess weight" figured?

I'm sorry if I confused the issue for you, Somethingelse. My point was only that you shouldn't put too much weight (so to speak) on what the statistics say. My "goal" weight is somewhere between 150 and 180, according to the charts, so when I started I had about 160-190 lbs to lose. 50% of that is 80-95 lbs. I've lost about 120-130, so by all accounts I'm a success. But MY goal going in was only that I would get somewhere below 250, 230 if all my dreams came true. (That was my lowest adult weight, reached for 10 minutes back in 1990 after starving for four months.) I wanted to get healthy, be able to chase after my kids, be able to not worry and obsess about every bite and hate myself for not being able to exert control. If all of that happened and I was unable to get below 260 or a size 20, well, at least I'd no longer be GAINING. And once I discovered how to live with the band, getting to a really normal size turned out to be possible, much to my surprise, and I'm absolutely thrilled with a weight between 210 and 220. Why? Because it's staying there. Someday, maybe, Jachut's exercise high will hit me and I will turn into a fitness fanatic, but for now I'm content. My point is don't throw away the idea just because the statistics are less than miraculous. Look at your relationship with food and see if an internal brake that helps you stop eating is something that will help you. Because that's what the band is, nothing more, nothing less. It flipped things so that instead of constantly trying NOT to eat and beating myself up about every bite, I was able to plan meals and eat small amounts without being hungry. Sure, it's possible to eat around the band and get in more calories than we should, but the band gives us a huge hand in the battle--if we want to take it. I miss my band and hope to get a new one in July. Until then, I'm re-living the dieting life.

    1000 Jumping Jacks A Week!

You do 10 reps of 100 each day? So 1000 a day... not a week? Or am I reading it wrong? Congrats on the .8! I am going to try this.

    Pissing off my boss

LOL. I loved working bedside as a nurse, but I have to say that the management to nurse relationship sucks rotten eggs. I was a mid-life career changer to nursing, from I.T. and I have never had the levels of disrespect in any other industry that I had as a nurse. I gave my supervisor and the scheduling person 6 months' notice of my wedding. I needed three shifts off, and had the PTO built up. We only got our shift schedules about 10 days before the start of the next schedule, and that's when I found out they only gave me 1/2 of one shift off, and it wasn't even on my wedding day. I had 4 out of town guests in my own home before the wedding, and a dozen people coming from out of town. I'd already re-scheduled it due to scheduling conflicts as well as not being able to get off for it several months before. I worked in the ER. Came in one night with what I thought was just allergies, but by a couple of hours into my shift, it was clear it was actually pinkeye. Was told they didn't have anyone to cover, and I had to finish my shift. WITH PINKEYE IN AN ER. Short staffed for a shift? Does management come in to cover? Nope, they just add more patients to the nurses' loads. I worked in one ER where I carried TWICE the recommended load for patients, and they didn't adjust for when I had super sick patients for the entire shift because the ICU was in overflow. That same ER when I hired on told me I was to work weekend shifts 1 out of 3 weekends. Then they proceeded to schedule me 5 weekends out of 6, and told me to suck it up. And I had it much better than floor nurses. Hug your nurses, they need it.

    I am OVER it today.

@@Armygalbonnie ME TOO! It's like I could have written that. I'm over waking up in the morning and feeling ALL THE GRAVITY pull me down as my fat settles into place. I'm over the pain in my feet that I feel with every step. I'm over looking at myself in store windows as I walk by and think "frick, did I really get that big?" I'm over my mother telling me I'm going to die of a stroke because I'm overweight. I'm over feeling ashamed for being fat and I'm over being ashamed for not being more body positive. I'm over feeling hungry all the time as I lose weight in this stage. I'm over people saying "you aren't even that big" when I talk about surgery. I'm over self-esteem, ugly clothes, and poorly constructed shoes. Mostly, I'm over my son pointing out every diet/weightloss commercial and saying "you should do that, mommy." I love this kid but he sure can be brutally honest for a 10 year old. Gah. So over it.
