  1. I’ve always entered a room, store, get together, etc and felt like everyone was staring at me because I was so heavy. It was constantly in my mind. Now that I’ve dropped from 2-3XL sizes to M-L sizes, it’s never a concern. It feels like a “weight” has been lifted and I’m free from the paranoia.
  2. I had my vsg in April 2016, I lost 90lbs in 5 months and found out I was pregnant. 😶 Everything made me sick, but when I started eating terrible food, it made my addiction come right back. 2 years after I had my oldest, I had my youngest. Now she is 3 and I have gained just about all of my weight back and its brought back its problems with it. So now I am starting my journey back. Im more conscious about my eating and exercising, and start my nutrionist appointments in June. I want the revision from sleeve to RNY, but we will see how things progress, my husband isnt on board with me getting another surgery, but I am trying to just get myself together the best I can and work my way until I am able to schedule, then see if I can get his support. Im just nervous about how it will all turn out. I have GERD terrible, and PCOS and my doctor is putting me back on metformin. I wanted to have surgery originally to have kids, but I know if I had another chance at being healthy and getting myself back I'll know how I got myself into this situation again and be able to prepare for it not to happen again. Plus I dont want anymore kids.

PCOS and vsg pre op diet

I have heard of some people that didn’t lose weight on the pre op. As said above as long as you are following the plan you will be fine. The main goal is to shrink the liver not to lose weight.

    Blah...my first stall...

Yeah, everyone defines a stall differently. Personally I use at least “1 week of consecutive days of non-weight-nor-inches loss” as a definition. I mean, I could drop a good 2 lbs with a nice poop (i pooped every 3-4 days - sometimes even longer than that - back in weight loss phase, so that made sense) …and yes, I used to weigh myself before and after poops cuz it was fun for me 😂) What some people consider stalls, others call daily fluctuations. But however you define it, just keep on trucking, and aim to keep the anxiety at bay. Remember: stress (i.e., cortisol) has a positive correlation to weight gain (i.e., increased hunger and over-eating) Good Luck! ❤️

    6 weeks post op depressed

I had this explained to me when I crashed in a crying mess. It was a wonderful medical explanation but I have lost the post. The basics was, As our fat cells melt off us they expel the hormones that are inside then. Loosing weight we have all these extra hormones floating around. No wonder we feel like we have been mixed in a blender. It does pass quickly, keep going on, you are doing great
  6. Yesterday, I had to go get a medical test and was filling out the forms. When I got to the weight part, I wrote "385" and was going to move on to the next section, before my brain synapses fired and I realized I wrote the wrong number and needed to change that 3 to a 2! I've written that 3 in front of my weight for so long, it just became a habit... one I need to break because the 300s were 15 lbs ago. It was very satisfying to scribble out the 3 and make it a 2. 🙂

PCOS and vsg pre op diet

as long as you're following the plan, I wouldn't worry about it. There could be a number of factors affecting your weight loss (hormones? Constipation? Water retention?). The goal of this pre-op diet is to shrink your liver, so you're good..

    Blah...my first stall...

Well given that I was consistently losing 2-4 pounds a day and for 3 days I wasn't losing at all and ended up gaining, it seems like it's the beginning of a stall. I'm not going to be weighing myself much now that it's started.

    Blah...my first stall...

I've not lost any more weight since my first weight in at my drs on May 5th. It's hard to knowing most people lost their weight in the first few months after surgery. And here I am at a stall this soon. It's crazy how our bodies are so different to the surgery.
  10. My VSG is in 11 days 05-31 and I am on the pre op diet. On the 1st of May I started dieting in general to prepare for the pre op. I only lost 2 lbs. Now I'm on day 6 pre op diet and haven't lost any weight. I do have PCOS and didn't know if that's why or what I'm doing wrong. For pre op I can have 2 protein shakes a day and 1 meal of 4oz protein and 1/2 cup non starchy veges I've been super strict and don't get why I haven't lost weight this month so far. Is this the same for others with PCOS or even non PCOS people?? Sent from my SM-G970U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Let’s talk about… skin

Unfortunately, you can’t prevent loose skin & you can’t control how much you end up with. You can’t even predict how much you end up with. If you’re young & still have lots of elastin in your skin it will bounce back some. If you only carried the bulk of your excess weight for a short period of time you may not have as much. If you’re blessed with good genes you may not have as much either. Where you carry your weight can affect what you end up with too - more in your abdominal region then you will have more loose skin there. The only way to get rid of it is through surgery. I don’t have much (more than a pinch but less than a handful) & decided it wasn’t worth surgery. I can hide it very successfully under clothes even in fitted body con dresses without need of any support garments. I feel I’ve earned the loose skin after working so hard to lose my weight. Rather have some loose skin that may flap a bit than my fat body.

    Blah...my first stall...

I saw that I hadn't lost anything in 2 days, and then on day 3 I gained a pound and said "yep, it's a stall. Time to stay off the scale for a while".

    May 2022 Surgery Buddies

How is everyone doing, I am 12 days post op, feeling good, getting the hang of not drinking immediately after eating, and down 37 lbs from highest weight. If I hadn’t worn jean shorts and left two middle incisions uncovered things would be even better. I irritated those two incisions and have to use triple antibiotic and keep them covered for a week. I will Definately cover them from now on!! 🤷🏼‍♀️
  15. I had RNY to RNY revision surgery on 12/21/21. I thought I was fine, slowly recovering, until 10 days later when I started coughing up blood. I was airlifted back to the surgical hospital with a perforated jejunum at the anastomosis and SEPSIS. I had emergency surgery and was close to death for several days. I was in the hospital for 7 weeks and in a rehab facility for 3 weeks. I was discharged with a 15 cm long open surgical wound which is still not entirely healed 3 months later (but getting close). I resumed normal activities after returning home and have no pain from the open surgical wound. I have volunteer nurses who come to my home to do dressing changes, now every other day. Because of three necessary endoscopic procedures looking for leaks or abscesses my anastomosis is stretched and I have no more restriction than I had before the revision surgery. I had lost 70 lbs prior to surgery by cutting out all sugar, flour, rice, white potatoes, processed food. I've lost 25 more since the revision. I've been told to get 90 mg protein daily and to limit my calories to 800--which is VERY difficult. To add insult to injury I'm starting to lose my hair, too. I'm really struggling with cravings in the afternoon and night. We are now considering a prescription for CONTRAVE. Do I have regrets for having the revision surgery? Of course! I wish I had left it alone. I wish my surgeon had aborted the revision when he found I had dense adhesions. However, I'm well now and am approaching a 100 lb weight loss.

Anyone denied AND they meet ALL criteria/co-morbidities

I totally misread this as you were denied. Oops. But for those with employer sponsored health insurance: Read the denial letter. It will give you information on why you were denied and next steps. Common reasons for denial: 1. Missing criteria 2. Not a covered service under the plan (employers can exclude bariatric coverage from their plans or it’s not offered at certain market sizes such as under 100/small group plans) 3. Alternative treatment/step therapy required such as nutritional counseling, medically supervised weight loss 4. Procedure not covered; alternative procedure covered Example: duodenal switch isn’t covered but the sleeve is 5. Age -either too young or too old All denial letters will give you next steps to take action and appeal the decision. I suggest work with your provider to file the appeal. I’ve been in health insurance for nearly a decade and i have seen these denials before.

    Let’s talk about… skin

It depends on a lot of factors, your age, your size, how you carry your weight, etc. Some people have plastic surgery after their weight is stable and some don’t. Some of it is personal preference. Some people also have problems with rashes and stuff under hanging skin. I’m sure some of those who have had plastic surgery will respond with their experiences and you can always do a search on the forum.
  18. I knew it was coming and yet it still bothers me. Now that my weight hasn't gone down (and I actually gained a pound) in the last 2 days, I'm going to not weigh myself for at least a week. I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing, keep exercising, keep watching what I eat, and try not to think about it too much. It's not easy, because of course it bothers me that my progress is stopping, but I can't let it get my anxiety going. So....fun times....
  19. I suffer from body dysmorphia too. I'm under goal weight and still feel huge. Physically it does feel great. I don't feel tired walking long distances or going up stairs. Stretching and working out is so much easier, my comorbities are gone but my head is where the problem is. I still see myself as someone who needs to lose a lot of weight. I will stand next to someone who is heavier than me, and not see them as fat at all. It's all how I see myself.

    Ist weigh in! [emoji3061]

We cant tell you that. Every program and insurance have their own requirements. So you need to check to see what yours is. BUt very doubtful. Wear a weight belt when they weigh you lol
  21. At one time, I was highly interested in FatLossTroubleShooter. I listened to her podcasts and was inspired to lose weight. I also, of course, use bodybuilding.com as a guide to exercise, nutrition, and just how to take care of your body.

    June Surgery Date

I've already kind of started with soft food only and liquids for breakfast and lunch. A d I definitely am getting in 64 ounces of water or more a day. I was already planning g on doing liquid for at least 1 week before my surgery date. So I think I'll be ok (hopefully). My main concern is that even though I'm walking and dieting, I'm still going up and down on my weight. 1 day I'll be at 244 the next day I'm back up to 250. It's just frustrating. June Surgery Date

Your BMI is up there at 47ish. I would think you would be on a 1 week liquid diet but your surgeon knows best. I sure dont lol. But just because your surgeon said 1 day. Does not mean you cant do a week if you want and get a jump start on your weight loss... I have seen some on here start their pre op diet a whole month in advance. (which is not easy)
  24. I doubt it. It's using electrical signals from your legs and can't accurately predict your trunk, so just 3% off is pretty good. I have a DEXA scan every three months and that's what I use (and, oddly, since I lost weight, the DEXA scan is within 0.5% bodyfat of the little throwaway hand-held electrical impedance thing every single gym has.)

    June Surgery Date

that all depends on your BMI and surgeons. Some do only 1 day. Some do none, Some do 1 week or 2 weeks or a month. The whole point of it is to shrink your liver. Many of us who are overweight have lots of fat around our liver, But not everyone. What is your weight and height?
