    "Know-It-Alls"......bug me to no end

okay....my first newbie stupid question....I'm so excited! What exactly is PB and NSV because I've always thought it might be Post Barfing and Never Stop Vomiting. Am I right? I can't wait to know it all. I'm serious!

    "Know-It-Alls"......bug me to no end

So did I. When I first joined LBT I did ask all sorts of "stupid newbie" questions including the one about the meanings of PB and NSV. I also wanted to talk about my hair loss and I posted a new thread about this. The reason why I like to be very respectful of newbie questions is that I tend to be kind of blonde/analog when it comes to navigating the internet and websites. This is why I have found myself taking the middle - the bland - road when it has come to the recent and bitter newbies/old guys debates which have been taking place on a few other threads. The truth is that there are a number of experienced oldtimers on this site who have acquired a wealth of knowledge on band issues and who have chosen to remain on site in order to answer questions and, generally speaking, give help. It is also true that sometimes some of these folks can sound kind of snarky and impatient, a response which is invariably disturbing to a sensitive and recently hatched bandster. Of course what the oldtimer is responding to is the fact that this question, though a new one to the newbie, has been asked a billion times before and that there is a FAQ section on this site. There is also a research issue option. You want to know about hair loss or acid reflux? Well, you can type in these topics and the research engine will call up all threads which deal with these issues. But that blonde, analog Green didn't know any of this stuff when she first joined LBT. And so I posed all those same old questions but I was lucky: people gave me the answers without any attitude. This is why I try to keep my posts attitude-free. At the same time I feel that it is important that folks understand that there are many experienced folks here on this site and if attitude is sometimes given, well, take the advice, ignore the attitude, and understand that the attitude comes only from frustration, not from a lack of interest or caring. Lindata has the right attitude, IMHO.
  6. What has been your proudest NSV yet? For me, I can't decide if it was finally finding my collar bones (this weekend, woohoo!) or fitting into my pre-pregnancy clothes last weekend... Right now they're tied.
  7. Please don't be discouraged. I know it isn't easy when you don't see the progress on the scale. It can be very frustrating!! I have found that my body goes through adaptation periods especially to something new. It's been 5 weeks and your body has gotten used to what you are doing. You need to confuse it to get it going again. Have you tried different cardio to change it up? Different muscle groups? I have had stalls and when I see that the scale is hanging up, I know its time to change it up a bit. I have numerous different cardio that I do, cross country walking, biking, Zumba, treadmill, Kinect with numerous DVD workouts, numerous exercise DVD's, Hatha Yoga, swimming, occasionally canoeing, and kayaking (I live by 2 lakes and multiple rivers). I try and switch those up and rotate them often so that my body doesn't get used to the same routine, which keeps my body guessing and get it jump started. I promise that you are still transforming and most likely losing inches!!!! During stalls, focus on how clothes are fitting and also how you are tolerating longer cardio, which feels amazing when you couldn't do something the week before and the next week you can! Celebrate and focus on the NSV's (non scale victories) during stall periods. Significant weight gain doesn't happen overnight and neither does significant weight loss, although wouldn't that be awesome because it would make our journey's so much easier right? One stepping stone at a time, 1 pound at a time. Don't worry, it will happen and you are just beginning!!! Keep going you are doing great!!!

    ???????????? Fustration????????????

My doc said that when working out , it's during those plateau periods that your body is trading fat for muscle. You're building muscle which weighs more and losing the fat so it can seem as if your weight is not moving, but you'll be losing inches elsewhere. Try that (tracking your inches) and see what you get. Also, the demon scale doesn't control everything. Look at how your clothes fit, your energy levels, all the little NSVs that your body has for you.
  9. Great NSV, we take whatever we get!
  10. So today I am 5 weeks out. I have lost 42 lbs. Had a week stall when TOM came to visit but all is well now. Some of the NSV's I have encountered: Going from a size 18 to a size 12 pants and XXL shirts to L. All of my clothes are way too big now except for the ones I held on to and thank goodness I did. Not getting out of breath to do anything.... and I do mean anything. My boyfriend putting his arms around my waist and being able to grab his elbows with his hands...and commenting on it. Ex-boyfriends seeing me and telling me how great I look. I have a ton but I have saved the best for last........ And sex is so worth it now!!!! Ok, ok. I know TMI .... but it is so true.lol I hope everyone else is doing great as well!
  11. In answering this same question, someone who had GBS told me recently that they say "No I can't eat that. It gives me a reaction"....and of course I said..."Yeah, the reaction is that it makes me fat". I like the "No...I'm good" phrase. It's dismissing - probably stops the pushing - but it's nice. I like that one and will use it. Thnx. I've told everyone that I'm on a "doctor supervised liquid diet" for six weeks. It's not like that they don't know I'm overweight. I don't know what excuse I'll use for the mushies but I'll come up with something. I've watched my (as Jack says) "normo" friends and they actually eat in pea sized bites and unbelievably small portions (like 3 ounces of Protein...I mean really!). They talk during dinner and push their food around their plate. Here's a big bonus...no more spilled food down the front of you! What a great NSV....it's almost impossible to spill food if you're not shoveling it in! (which I'm sure you never did, but it was a pretty regular thing with me) Good luck to you.
  12. So for the first time in my life (57 years old) I passed out. Fainted, face planted...whatever you want to call it. I was with my sister on line waiting to purchase tickets to a show we want to see. Was doing fine...my sister, who is obese, was sweating and had to take off her coat. This is what happens to her when we're just walking quickly, which we were. Doesn't happen to me anymore. I stood on line with her with my jacket closed and not a drop of perspiration (thank you lapband!!) Suddenly I got light-headed and dizzy. Sounded like everything was under Water and told sis I needed to sit down. That was the last thing I remember till I woke up with sis in my face calling my name. The theater manager called 911 even though I asked them not to. The EMTs come running in, take off my coat, put a BP cuff on and ask me questions. I know they're checking my cognitive function. They knew I was OK when they asked me to get in the ambulance so they could do a quick ECG and I said OK as long as my sister stayed on line for the tickets. So..here's the NSV. First one...no embarrassment over this. No feeling like ugh..the fat woman is sick. She must have done something to herself. No one staring at me..only concern on their faces. Second NSV..Being able to climb into the ambulance. Never had to do that before and I know that when I was heavy, it would have been impossible. Third...no worry that the BP cuff would fit. Fourth..no worry when they asked me to sit on the 'bed' which was really just a shelf with a plastic cushion. Fifth...and truly the best NSV...the relief that my weight would not be an issue or even be mentioned. I'm normal sized now and that's what everyone sees. So I'm fine today and will wait to see if my doctor wants me to come in. I did tell the nurse what happened and she said she'd let me know if I need to come in. But that's not really the point. The point is that I felt like a normal person and was treated like a normal person in a rather unusual situation. Those of you who are/were morbidly obese as I used to be will understand where I'm coming from.
  13. glitter eyes

    You won't believe this NSV

Glad you are ok!! Totally get the NSV aspect of the situation. It is a good feeling to be "normal size" and not have to worry about the small things. Take care your yourself!!

    February Surgeries

Thank you ClaireC. I have been practicing my post op behaviors now so when it's real it will be second nature. I am quite ready to be thin and healthy again. Next week I have a follow appointment with the NP and dietitian. Just by being mindful of my eating, according to my him scale I have lost 10# since my first appointment sept 23. I have many post op nsv's on my bucket list. Thanks for the encouraging words. Hope to talk again :-D Bear
  15. I went shopping today for a new top and bought a large....so excited!! I am down 32 pounds...and counting. Hoping to be in Onderland by February 1st. Only nine pounds. I can do it....and all without a fill!! Sorry for all the exclamation marks but I am so excited to start 2013 as a new me!!

    An exciting NSV!!!!

This was size 18s!!!!...I am such an idiot sometimes! I can wear size 16s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kira, a fellow bandster, gave me some of her 16s yesterday and I thought that maybe I would be able to get into them in a couple of months. So I finally had a chance this morning to try them on and I got into every single pair!!!!! I can't remember the last time I was in a 16...maybe in in 8th grade!!! Omgosh...I am so excited and pumped! Thank you and a big hug to Kira!!! I will post a picture of the two of us together a little later.

    Happy with Six Months Out

Pumpkin, I wish the media would mention the Sleeve more often too. It is still not in the cultural lexicon the way the gastric bypass is. I think that time will fix that as more people get it done. Certainly, by then we will have more info on the long term. BTW, another cool NSV: I just looked down and noticed that my legs were crossed naturally by themselves. Way cool! Pen
  18. OK...it has been awfully quiet on this board lately. I miss my Nymph friends. I love reading about all your successes. So...how are things going? What have you been up to? Are you enjoying the beautiful weather? Especially in New England. How has your weightloss been going? Any NSV moments? Just plain anything to talk about. Things going pretty good here. I am on a small plateau but happy with my weightloss. I cleaned out my closet this week and had 8 bags of clothes that don't fit anymore. I have finally hit the lowest size in my closet (size 24) which means I need clothes. I have been buying a few things but still waiting until more weight comes off. I tried on a size 22 bathing suit because I am going to do Water aerobics at the "Y" and I looked pretty good. I got it home and was jumping up and down to see how things would work while in the water and to my surprise the girls found their way out of the bathing suit. Needless to say I do not want to put on a show at the "Y" for everyone. LOL! So I returned the bathing suit in search for a more respectable one for water aerobics and to save myself more embarrassment since the pants falling down episode. Would love to hear some stories from my Nymph family! Tag...your it. Cindy

    March 2014 Sleevers

NSV: Zipped up a pair of size 16s today! I started out in a tight 22. Might wait until I lose another 10 lbs or so before I wear them out in public though as the muffin top is really bad (as you can tell!)

    An exciting NSV!!!!

Miracles happen.....dreams come true! YOU are what inspires us newbies and wannabies. NSV ?? your victory has everything to do with the scale! Congrats, sweetie!
  22. Today went to cardiologist who hasn't seen me since the VSG surgery in May 2015. After her mouth dropped open at my weight loss, she said you are the picture of health because your blood pressure is normal 120/88, your pulse is ridiculous at 53 bpm, your EKG is normal and she thinks I also look fabulous! ????no meds necessary- see me in a year for a check up. Now how does it get any better than that? She also added that because my blood pressure was very high and uncontrolled at the last visit with me back in April ( before surgery)she honestly thought I was headed for a stroke or major heart attack. She was the one who suggested the surgery and I gave her a big hug today for saving my life????I'm celebrating with a swim tonight.
  23. I learned just the other day to begin appreciating the "little" NSV that will happen and you won't even realize it until you do it. For the first time in I can't remember how long, I was actually able to bend over and tie my own shoes. I have worn shoes that slip on for as long as I can remember, but that day I put my sneakers on and tied them myself. I almost cried.
  24. Thinkingthinner1109

What NSV are you look foward to?

New clothes, new coats, new shoes, cute underwear. Lol. Met my goal last week and need a second job to support my shopping habits. My big goal was to wear a pair of Ms Me jeans. I now have two pair. Bought a new Malibu to celebrate. It's sporty and yes I am one of those "old people" who drive a car that's a little sporty. Now my challenge is to stop losing weight. Harder than I thought it would be! Good luck fellow sleevers on you NSV's.
