    8 weeks post-op

Morning all! I'm chronicling my journey here so it'll be easy for me to find haha. Tomorrow will be 8 weeks since surgery. I woke up this morning to 271 on the scale. HW: 353 (June, I've been higher before), SW: 327, CW: 271, GW: 210. That's 56 since surgery and 82 overall. I'm pretty dang happy with that. Weight loss is slowing down and being sporadic - last week it was almost a pound each day and then I stalled for 3 days and woke up this morning to a 3 pound drop. I just hope it continues at 2 pounds a week or more so I can make my weight for Hawaii! Need to be at 250 for a bunch of the stuff we wanna do. I had a rough week at work last week and had my first true test of my normal habit of going to food for stress. I worked out instead. I don't know that it helped me or made me feel better but I did it and didn't let food do any damage. I feel like hair loss is starting despite taking biotin, collagen and using the Nioxin system. I'll let my barber take care of it next month. Anyways - keep it up out there!
  3. Good evening everyone. This is my weekly check in. I've been on this weight loss journey now 16 weeks today and down 107lbs. HW 322 CW 215 GW 185-195 Feeling good still mostly on shakes everyday but starting to try little solid things here and there to work out what I can tolerate. I'm 7 weeks post op today but 16 weeks since starting my diet. Feeling positive about the future just got some loose skin mostly under my arms & armpits.. Will need to get into some kind of resistance or weights soon but here in Australia Its summer and heatwave of 100 all week 😭 so not in any mood to workout right now Thanks everyone again for your support MIKE.

    Post Op 1 week today

I knew that there was a possibility that I would have my gall bladder removed at the same time of my sleeve surgery but I got an unexpected curve ball. I also had a Hiatal Hernia that did not show up during my pre op testing. So I had three procedures done altogether. I am thankful though. Was in a lot of pain when I woke up but thank God for pain killers. I am home now and I have no more nausea like before my surgery. I am still having mild heartburn early in the morning time but I am guessing that is still gas from the surgery. Trying to walk as much as possible in circles to heal quicker and get rid of this gas buildup, The only pain I actually start having yesterday was pain generating across the top of my stomach. Called the nurse and she said it could be scar tissue from me trying to heal, don't really know. Only had to take my liquid Hydrocodone once today. Have already lost ten pounds. For some reason I got sort of depressed today, I do not know why, Is this normal?
  5. Since apparently no one will give out this secret, and everyone will tell you to just be patient (not likely!) Stay the course, work your plan, just wait, etc. I thought start a thread to help anyone really desperate (with a great sense of humor) 😬 Please add your ultimate (yet unlikely to work) Tips on breaking a stall👏
  6. Is it normal to stall for three or more weeks at around the eight month mark? I was 360.8 the day of surgery and I am down to between 244 and 248 now. (I've been fluctuating between these weights for the past three weeks). I'm going to be re-introducing swimming in addition to my walking, but the stall still is starting to worry me.
  7. Hey everyone, I am 8 weeks out from VSG surgery. I can eat normal. I work with a nutritionist but I dont see her until my 3 month follow. So I am a little confused how many calories should I be eating. My doctor said 800-1000 calories a day. My sister who is a nutritionist is saying that is not enough and I am depriving myself. I have very slow weight lost, like a pound a week. I dont know if I am doing something wrong. How many calories are you guys eating this far out? What does a day of food look like for me? Anything helps! Thank you! Sent from my SM-G973U using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. Just feeling a little down. And I knew this stall would be coming, my nutritionist warned me and I’ve seen stuff about it all over Facebook. I’m about 3.5 months out from surgery and have been stalled for almost 2 weeks. It’s so frustrating. I keep food journal diligently and I meet protein and fluid goals (the vast majority of the time). My nutritionist recommended upping calories to 1100-1200 but I’m scared! I’ve gotten to 1100 a few days over the past couple of weeks, but mostly still in the 900 range. I’m already a slow loser so the stall just makes it feel like I will never get the weight off. I just want to get into the 220s so bad!! I’ve been at 232 for 2 weeks. Any tips on what you’ve done to break through stalls? Or do you just ride it out?
  9. To feel full/satisfied. I’ve been packing my lunch and one item I pack us a Greek yogurt I’ve been eating for breakfast (soft phase). I’m 8 weeks past surgery and my doc said I should eat 2-3 oz , 4 times a day. But that leaves me hungry. Today after eating my yogurt I realized it’s 5.4 oz. that seems to be the amount of food that gets me satisfied. I don’t want to start this lifestyle on the wrong foot. How many ounces you guys eating at 8 weeks? THANK U
  10. I've been dealing with major gas and bloat since graduating to eating soft mushy foods. Even with chewing thoroughly and eating slower. I find myself belching often and it doesn't stop even if I use prescriptions and gas x. Makes it so annoying to eat sometimes. Sent from my REVVLRY using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. I’m kinda new to the site, I am starting my 4 weeks and last week of course it was thanksgiving and I had a tablespoon of potato salad and about a spoon of the dark more moist turkey. It went down smooth and my nutritionist said I can start my one solid a day thing. Do you guys think it’s a good idea I mean what were you guys eating at 4 weeks?

    Weight Loss Stall

I’m about 5 weeks post-op and for the last week and a half/2 weeks my weight has stalled. Has anyone else experience this? Any recommendations? Thanks!
  13. My surgery is scheduled for December 4. I’m having a gastric bypass. I’ve lost 15 lbs in one week on the liquid diet which seems like a lot. Yesterday was the worst day so far. I’m exhausted and didn’t sleep well last night. I had to get up at 3am to eat a sugar free jello because I was so hungry. I’m allowed 5 protein shakes a day. Along with sugar free jello and broth. I do not feel well. I’m constantly drinking water and constantly peeing. It’s like I can’t catch up with the dehydration. I know I have only one more week but I feel terrible. Thinking of calling the nurse practitioner on Friday - I know I should be hungry but I feel off. Any insights or advice? Thanks
  14. Hi there. I am a t 3 weeks post op tomorrow. I am still in the liquid phase as I have not been able to transition to full liquids or soft foods. Anyone further along in the process that has had the same experience?
  15. Im new to this, i havent spoken to anyone about my surgery. I am currently 24 days post op. Im worried because i have not lost weight in 2 weeks. I have followed the diet, with a few slips here and there. I am constantly having the feeling of feeling hungry. I eat, feel full, then an hour later i feel hungry again. I have incorporated some solid foods into my diet here and there. Is this normal? I am worried that the surgery did not work. I am always drinking my crystal light.
  16. Tomorrow is 3 weeks since I was sleeved. This weekend has been miserable. I feel like I have mono (which I had 20 years ago). I have zero energy and feel very sluggish. I just want to go back to sleep. I am getting in my liquids and at least 60 grams of protein. I started taking vitamins last week. I am eating 350-500 calories a day. My urine is pretty clear so I don't think it is dehydration. I felt strong urges for carbs to get some strength. I had a pretty busy and stressful week at work and I think I may have overdone it. I also started eating non-pureed salmon and chicken on Friday. I just started taking iron on Friday night (40 mg). Not sure if this is just my body telling me to take it easier or something more serious. Any thoughts welcomed.
  17. My two week post-op date is this Monday. Feeling very good and doing well on full liquids, but I definitely feel like I’m ready to move onto the next phase. My doctor recommends waiting an extra week, but I’m curious about what everyone else has experienced. When did you move up to soft foods? What were your favorite specific foods during this stage? How long did you wait until moving to the next phase? What’s the best way to start integrating new foods? All advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
  18. So, today I am 11 1/2 weeks post op and my weight loss has significantly slowed/stalled. I am lucky at this point if I drop even 1 pound in a week. Day in and day out, the scale fluctuates up and down by 2 pounds, but mostly does not actually drop below my last low. Can't remember exactly when this started, but probably about 3+ weeks ago. Still following docs orders, although I admit I am bad about measuring and recording. I also still struggle to get in all of my fluids. So much so that last week I had to have a medical procedure done... and couldn't eat anything for 8 hours before a procedure at 1 pm, which really meant I couldn't eat anything since before bed the night before. By the time I got to the docs office, I was VERY dehydrated and asked the doc to give me extra fluids. But before they did... they had to fight to find a place to start my IV. Took the anesthesiologist to get it because the nurse couldn't get it. And when she did... I actually fainted from dehydration. Seriously. Needless to say, they gave me the extra fluids I asked for. And yay for me, they didn't get to do the procedure afterall do to another complication... which means I get to do this again LMAO. Back to my stall... I am sure some of it has to do with the fact that I am still not getting enough fluids and calories. I am not doing terribly, but I am not doing great at it either. But at the same time, I am doing so much more activity. I walk a lot, whenever I can. Today I did 6 miles, last weekend I did 9. And my body IS drastically changing. I was a size 16/XL. My abdomen was very protruding. I quickly dropped to a 14/large. I bought size 12 pants when they were tight on me to go back to work... and when I did at 9 weeks post op, they fit perfectly. Then I bought a few mediums because I would be able to wear them in a couple months. I also received an XL shirt that I ordered ages ago at work that arrived last week... and I switched it out to a women's medium thinking it would fit me "soon". I tried that shirt on last week and it was too snug to wear. Since I have so few work clothes, I decided to try it on again this week... and it fit... and looked a little LOOSE! Then I ordered 2 pairs of hiking pants to shrink into soon... a size 10 and a size 8... the size 8 arrived first so I tried it on for fun.... it is tight... but I was able to get them on and zip/button them! The size 10 is perfect though I don't think I will be wearing them for long. And the fact that I could squeeze into the size 8 is just so exciting! Seriously, that means I am just about half the clothing size I was when I started. Anyhow... just wanted to remind all of those who are 'STUCK" to pay attention to their clothing sizes/body shape... just because you aren't losing weight, does NOT mean that you have stopped losing inches! And for those who are much more active than before, remember: Muscle weighs more than fat. You are gaining muscle which offsets the "weight" loss... but building more muscle will help you lose more fat!
  19. I feel like I'm the only person who was instructed to not consume protein shakes my first week post op. I'm 4 days po and feeling pretty good. Maybe a little dehydrated getting about 2/3 if my fluid intake but it's all I can handle lol. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
  20. I am one week out from my sleeve and I'm going strong. I've lost 19 pounds post-OP so far and 60 pounds total. It's a great feeling. But it's been kind of tempered by two things: 1. I can't sleep to save my life - I'm up to 4 or 5 hours now, but it's broken in half with an hour or more awake in between. My doctor told me to add melatonin to my routine but it seems to just leave me drowsy, not put me to sleep. I'm walking a lot - I hit 9k steps yesterday. I've even been working on crafts when I'm resting, to keep active. I dont know what to do. 2. I feel like I've lost all my weight in strange places. For example, my breasts are definitely smaller, but I think my hips are almost exactly the same size. I can see the weight loss in my face, but my upper arms dont seem to have shrunk. How am I supposed to wear clothes like this? Anyone else notice the weird, uneven weightloss? Any advice on the insomnia? Anything at all will help.
  21. Hello, I got the procedure done 3 weeks ago in Mexico. I’m back in the States and still feeling very full and nauseous all the time. I’m vomiting every evening before going to bed. I started with the liquid diet for a week, then the bland diet, but now had to go back to the liquid cause my stomach can’t take anything else. Has anyone had this problem? Does it last for much longer? Any tips on how to handle it? Any input would be greatly appreciated! **I've lost 15 lbs so far.
  22. Hi everybody. I started the weight loss process... well, probably about 20 years ago when I first joined weight watchers. But I started the surgery process in July. It was a rocky road, staying on diet has never been my strong point. But I lost 40 pounds to prepare for the surgery. I kept telling myself, "Just a few more weeks, just a few more weeks." Until it was time for surgery. I was sleeved one week ago today. When I woke up post-OP in the hospital and I was in pain and confused I cried. I thought, "what the hell have I done to myself?" It took a few days for that feeling of dread to dissipate but doubt keeps welling up. What if I end up hurting myself? What if I undo everything at the end of the first year? No lie, the first night I was at home I dreampt I found m&ms in the chair cushion and ate them all! Right now the doubt is held at bay by the pretty consistent weight loss - down more than 14 pounds in 7 days... but I thought maybe a community presence would help me keep my resolve when the weight loss slows down. Anyway, I'm new here, but look forward to meeting all of you. I have a lot to learn and welcome any guidance you can provide.
  23. Hey everyone I'm feeling great. Been a big journey but I'm losing weight consistently. On average of 7lbs a week which I think is great. Seen surgeon yesterday he's very happy with me. Don't have to see him until 3 months post op. So far 12 weeks since I started my diet 88lbs gone. Surgery was 3 weeks ago 22lbs gone since then. I'm still mostly living off protein shakes with a little yoghurt not in an hurry to start real foods yet and the surgeon says that's fine take your time if you like. Fluids go down easily; water and shakes and a few cups of tea a day. No real issues at all I think I've been very lucky. Well for those who care this is my latest update. I'm planning to hit 100lb goal by Xmas Thanks again for all your support and encouragement. MIKE.
  24. I am 1 week post op and am following the liquid diet but don’t ever seem to feel full or satisfied. Not sure if I’m not drinking enough or what. It can be excruciating at times. The paperwork sent home with me says to consume no more than 2oz at a time of broth, yogurt, etc. Does this sound like correct portions? Any suggestions?
  25. Hey guys. I’ve been all over this website and it’s been helping a lot, but I have some complications I’d like to go over before I see my NUT and nurse practitioner this Tuesday. Originally I thought my new blood pressure meds had been making me feel faint and week, but now I’m thinking it’s a deficiency of either iron or protein or even both. So bad to where I was doing great walking after surgery up until I started feeling like this. Now I hardly do anything besides lay down. I mean I still try to walk around the house or do whatever I can but even standing up I feel faint and have a racing heart. It’s just frustrating. I had my surgery 17 days ago if that helps. But now the more this goes on the less I am eating. Im trying very hard to get in protein but nothing’s cutting it. Eggs were doing well but ever since the other day anything I put down is a struggle. I want to get shakes down because it’s the easiest way but I take a sip now and it comes right up. I think it’s just being on the liquid and soft diet that’s making me like this. Hopefully the more i advance it all comes back into play. I don’t even want carbs or sugars, I just want to be able to sit down and eat some meat or whatever and that’s that. No getting sick or anything. I know that’s a lot to ask for only 17 days out and I CAN wait. But I need to find some way of getting in protein right now. Tuna was another thing I reuse but the mayo and the tuna itself was just uncomfortable to eat. I can’t fathom getting behind anything puréed so this is gonna be tough 😕 And before anyone says anything about it, please don’t mention puréed food. I just cannot do it. I’ve tried and the second it hits my mouth I gag horribly. The same way I would with the shakes. If anyone has been through the same please tell me it gets better I’m only 20 years old and weighed 375. Now I’m down to 315. I love the results, but I feel so week and sick
