NSV = Non Scale Victory Even if the scales aren't moving, we still have good things happening to us as a result of our previous weight loss. It's the little things that make you notice you really are making progress. -
1. I can touch my toes. 2. I have knee caps again (verses rolls of fat). 3. I have ankles again (no edema). 4. I cut my blood pressure medicine in half. 5. I can actually buy clothes in regular stores now (2-3x). 6. I bought scrubs from a scrub catalog who's scrubs have NEVER fit me before! 7. I lost a shoe size (go figure). 8. I can do aerobics now! 9. I enjoy sex again! 10. My husband can't keep his hands off me (well, he never could, but now I like it). 11. People are finally telling me I look good. 12. My back doesn't hurt as bad! 13. I'm running out of clothes that fit me. 14. I can shave my legs without looking like a contortionist. 15. I can drive my car in comfort now (the belt doesn't choke me). 16. 10/10/05 My Step-Mother told me twice yesterday that I really looked good! (this was unheard of & by far my best NSV to date!) I'll keep thinking & add more! I have to get back to my housework! updated NSVs 1/4/06 17. I can wear jeans again - size 25 18. I can wear boots again 19. I'm having to replace my wardrobe 20. I actually takes clothes back because they are too big! 21. I have a neck again 22. When we were in Branson, the weekend before Christmas, I actually walked up all of the stairs after getting off the Branson Belle, without stopping or getting out of breath! When I got to the top I realized I was alone (everyone else had to stop midway). That was a moment of enlightenment (wow! I did it!) 23. I was able to work 16 hour shifts in a nursing home where i was on my feet for at least 14 of the 16 hours. 24. I can bend over & tie my shoes now. 25. My youngest cousin, who is 8, climbed onto my lap Christmas eve & proceeded to turn around with a suprised look & exclaimed, "Jessie you have a lap now! Look everybody, I'm sitting on Jessie's lap!" I think this is my favorite NSV so far! Happy New Year everyone! Hope it's Happy, Healthy (or healthier) & Prosperous for everyone! :Bunny update 1/20/06 26. When I went for my fill on the 18th, I noticed that I actually had room on the gurney! On both sides of me! I didn't have to rest my arms on the side rails! I had to add this one before I forgot! :clap2: update 1/23/06 27.I noticed last night that I am no longer like the hoover dam when I take a bath. Yes, the Water goes all the way around! 28. I have lost 12.25 inches from head to toe since January 5, 2006!! :faint:

Sorry to be dense, but what is NSV? It sounds like a good thing... -
@ Jenn1214 congrats on the NSV!!! @ roeroe I absolutely agree plus size clothing is expensive ( I can't afford to remain fat.....lol). I often think about when my size actually does change (its taking forever to go down even one size) how I am going to afford to buy new cloths, as I am currently in a financial bind. I think they charge us so much because of the extra material?!?!?!?

What are NSV'? -
I have always shopped at Lane Bryant or the Avenue for the past 20 years, today I went in and the smallest size fit me comfortably. I was sad though(weird because I always wanted to get out of that store) I talked to the sales girl who suggested I try NY and Co because their sizes go to an 18. I went there and bought a sexy top in a Large and pants in a large as well (ok they have a bit of strech in them but I didn't need the XL they carry) yay! This was the first time I have have shopped in a "normal size" store

I had a plethora of NSVs this week that I totally didn't even realize! It's probably a good thing since the scale hasn't been moving much (almost 5 weeks out). I need any kind of victory I can get! 1. went off the (low) diving board at a public pool for the first time in years! I have a torn meniscus and was always afraid I wouldn't be able to get up the ladder. I also had fears of snapping the board in half! lol 2. I went out to dinner for the first time since being allowed real food and stayed on the plan. I actually went out twice, got chicken once and seafood once (all baked or grilled)... had maybe two bites of the accompanying mashed potatoes and rice (forgot to substitute my sides). 3. Went out bar-hopping with college friends and didn't drink a single drop of alcohol! These friends do not know about surgery and I want to keep it that way for the time being. I had to get very creative since there were many toasts to the newly engaged friend and to my weight loss (ha ha- the irony). An 8oz bottle of Water fit great in my purse for my trips to the bathroom! lol 4. I actually went to bars both nights this weekend and made it home without stopping for fast food. I used to be the queen of 4th meal- Taco Bell, Wendys, McDs. I was ssoooo tempted (this was the hardest NSV) on my way home because I was actually hungry. Instead, last night when I came home I had a few salami roll-ups and tonight had some milk. 5. I finally joined My Fitness Pal and started tracking my food. It's definitely not as difficult or time-consuming as I expected (the reason I put it off). 6. I went to see my psychologist for the first time since surgery. I was seeing her long before surgery and she was actually the biggest advocate of this for me and facilitated the discussion with my mom because I was too terrified. Anyway... she didn't recognize me! Legitimately, she wasn't just saying that. I was wondering why she didn't say hi to me when I saw her sitting outside the building! Whoo hoo! As always, thanks for all the support! Love this place!

Thanks to some genetics and my weight, I have rather bad knees and back problems. The result was I would get really tired just going up one flight of stairs - and would try to avoid them whenever possible. I couldn't walk more than 5 minutes without getting winded. I couldn't even stand in place for 5 minutes without breaking out in a sweat. Then I had VSG. Today - just 2.5 weeks after surgery, I was moving some stuff into my new apartment. I totally forgot about the stairs. There are 4 steps up to the front entrance, then 8 more down to my floor. I did all 12 steps at least 8 times today (both ways - so 16 times total I suppose)! I also unpacked my trunk twice taking stuff into the apartment and putting it away immediately. For me, this is a MAJOR NSV! Boy am I tired now though. Oh, and because I forgot to pack my lunch, I stopped at Big Boy for lunch (plus I wanted to sit in air conditioning for a bit - my apartment has air, but no furniture yet). I ordered the Grilled chicken dinner that came with 2 sides (I chose cottage cheese and baby carrots). My eyes are still bigger than my stomach. I barely made it through the cottage cheese (which was about 1/2 cup). So, I asked for a box when the waitress brought my meal and immediately packaged up the chicken and the carrots that turned out to be glazed carrots. I left the roll on the plate. My "doggie bag" will be at least 3 meals for me - I just have to puree it first. So although I'm really tired, I am proud of myself today. Now to rest up a bit (my back is really bothering me right now, so I'm resting) and then re-pack the car with more stuff for moving tomorrow. At least tomorrow my furniture will arrive at some point in the afternoon, so I'll have a chair to sit on!

Nice bikes, Betty! You don't know any good single Harley guys do ya? lol My brother and his wife ride too. He has an Ultra Glide and one of my mini goals/NSV's was to get on his bike with him, which I did back in June. My sister in law has her own bike too. She thinks I need one, which I would love, but since I take coumadin, probably not the best idea. Thanks for the pics!! It's so nice to put a face to these words that we become so attached to. Pretty lady.

I have decided that more journalling might help me keep my butt on track. I get gold stars for going to the gym again, last night. DH is still not coming with - but he has promised to make an attempt this weekend. Seeing me go without him is guilting him out a bit. This weekend promises to be a busy one. Scarborough Faire starts on Saturday and I am all excited about it. It would be nicer if the weather was a tad warmer - but hey - it will still be fun. NSV - I now fit into the bodices that they sell at Scarborough Faire... and I plan to buy one! While I made a chemise and skirt for Halloween, (Gypsy costume) I never have gotten around to making myself the bodice I need for the faire, so I think I may just buy the first one and maybe use it as a model for any future attempts. DH's costume is still just a spark in my sewing machine. We have had other things to do... So, for this first trip out, we are going in street clothes. Maybe I will find a shirt for him when we go. Heck - maybe I will visit the Queen's Corsetier this year, too. They have big-girl sizes... and I am so happy to be getting back to the point where at least I can shop at more than one store! :biggrin1: This weekend, we also need to get a freezer so we can empty the one in the fridge without destroying all our food. Although, it is good that we have been digging around in there - cause we had some great stuff buried! Having an extra freezer will be great. We also have to do a bunch of shopping for basic staples. We are out of flavored water and other stuff - so a trip to Sam's is in order. I am thinking we will have to shop on Saturday and Scarborough on Sunday. Since Sunday is Easter, most stores will actually be closed, I think. Plus, the sky is supposed to open up tomorrow - and DH really doesn't need to be hanging out in the rain after his recent illness. Well, let's see. I need to give myself a pep talk for the weekend. 1) exercise - see yesterday's journal entry. You LIKE this stuff. Go to the gym. 2) food - no pouch packing! You have formal permission to eat one good thing each day - but NO pouch packing, no matter how great it is. If nothing else, I will get some exercise walking at the stores. Yeah! So, I am off! My office has *cough* generously allowed us to take a half day off - if we use vacation time. I guess I can't complain. They are paying me to surf LBT these days.... TGIF

Well I had one set of smaller size clothing set back having gotten rid of all my previous sizes. Pre-op I was in a 52 pants and they were just about cutting me in two they were so freakin' tight. I had a few pairs of 46s and wore them till they were almost comically baggy. I finally went shopping for new britches a week ago Saturday. I tried on a 42 and they fit about right, a little loose but not too loose around the waist, I then tried on a 40 and they were kind of snug. So I ended up buying 2 pair, the 42 and the 40. I ordered a pair of jeans (I like a certain brand - Deluth Trading) in 40s thinking it would be OK to wait a week or two till they were comfortable. Well I wear my pants for 4 days M-T (please no comments I work in an office and just don't get them dirty, EVERYTHING else gets changed daily) and jeans on Friday. By Thursday I noticed the 42s were getting kind of loose. The size 40 mail order jeans came Thursday so I washed 'em up in order to try them on Friday morning fully expecting to have them NOT fit yet. To my shock they fit fine and the legs are a little baggy at that. In 4 months I've gone from a TIGHT 52 to a comfortable 40, that's 12 inches lost around my waist! I've been a cheapskate and refused to get a new belt. My belt goes around me and then again about 30% almost 16" stick out past the buckle! Jeez, I love this sleeve!

Back in Onderland...barely! LOL

199.8 this morning. LOL scales definitely aren't "flying" downward like I hear with some new sleevers, but that's (mostly) ok. I think we all want to lose weight as quickly as possible, even when it's not realistic. If I weren't still trying to stick to full liquids/puree (essentially the same thing with my docs office), I wouldn't feel like I had a sleeve at all. No difficulty drinking, haven't had trouble with anything that I've tried, no nausea, soreness, etc. I'm hungry, too, but I'm hoping that will change once I start eating solids. On the NSV side of things, my pants have definitely gotten looser! I worked a big bike race yesterday and although it sucked to be in full police uniform directing traffic for 12 hrs, it was nice to have loose pants while doing it. No complaints (so far and knock on wood!) about the sleeve! I didn't weigh at home before going to MX, but I'm guessing I've lost 12-15 lbs since surgery (2 weeks ago). I've NEVER lost an average of 6 lbs in one week before and now, the scales will be going back in the closet! LOL I'll weigh again in 2 weeks, maybe a month, or, if I can stand it , 6 weeks. Until then, I'll try to make the best choices I can with soft foods (start those tomorrow) and keeping the calories down, but emotionally, I do better without those scale numbers. Cindy -
NSV. this afternoon there were two techs in the back hallway when I was walking through. one had her leg up writing on paper with her thigh as the surface to write on. the other gestured for me to go on through and I said, I can't fit through there! they both said, yes you can! I said to the one girl, put your leg down and she said - no, I promise you will fit just fine. well. I'm astounded. I walked right through there like it was the grand canyon. do you all have any trouble with judging how much room you need?
-
I was sleeved on 9/30/15 at my highest weight of 205. As of yesterday I've lost 50 lbs and am down to 153.8. I still have 27 pounds to go to reach my goal and I'm hoping I get there by my one year surgiversary. Even as a kid I remember being too self conscious to wear shorts. I ventured into the juniors department at Belk today and tried on these pink scallop shorts. I'm still not 100 % comfortable in them but I'm hoping I will be by summertime Sometimes the number on the scale doesn't move and sometimes it's so easy to get discouraged. Celebrating non-scale victories helps me keep everything in perspective. What are YOUR favorite NSVs? (cross posted in post op forum)
