    Non Scale Victories

I'm still 8 days pre-op, but already 8 kilos (approx 20lb) down in the last 2 months as I cut out carbs and then started VLCD 2 weeks ago. Already had to retire my old PJ pants as they were so loose on my legs they'd ride up above my knees overnight, and today one of my pairs of pants was too loose in the waist for me to be comfortable to wear them in public (I dug out my old size 22 work pants from 2 years ago and put them on instead). I'm looking forward to many nsvs, including being able to cross my legs properly!

  6. So I'm just finishing up all my pre-op requirements for submission to insurance. I just wanted to share some happy news. I've been following a low carb diet since Feb. My entire adult life I have had high cholesterol and high triglycerides. Well....today I had bloodwork done....and they are both NORMAL! I've never seen them normal! I'm just over the moon about it! I'm looking forward to what else is to come once I do have my surgery! Thanks for listening!

    March Gastric Bypass Group

Hello fellow MGBG-ers! I've been out on travel for work so haven't had time to post any updates. Big NSV this week - had to fly to Tennessee - I not only fit into the seat comfortably (not "hanging" over and impinging on my neighbor and feeling uncomfortable the whole time trying to lean away from him/her) - but the seatbelt FIT! It not only FIT - but i had to TIGHTEN IT!!! OH IT FELT SO GOOD! This morning I weighed in at 220 pounds - which according to my Baritastic tracking ap lowers my BMI to 38! (Although my ticker here still says 39, so I'm assuming it's like 38.9 - but it's still 38 and heading down!) This was the first trip I have made since January - where I was at my high weight - so people definitely noticed and commented. We did a lot of tours with a lot of walking with a lot of uphills/stairs/in and out of small spaces - and I never got winded nor had to rest nor fell behind. My energy level was great! We also did a construction tour where we had to wear reflective vests for protection. The last time we were there - I remember distinctly - we posed for a picture and the vest they gave me wouldn't zip so I left it hanging open. This time it zipped up and I had room to spare! Also we did a tour of a lab and they said we had to wear lab coats - one of the guys was handing them out and said "here you go - you look like a medium" - I was VERY nervous because I'm used to being at least a 1X or 2X - but I put it on and it snapped up! It was snug - but not tight - and didn't pull at the snaps - so I wore it proudly Lots of eating out for business meals - but I made excellent choices the entire time. Luckily a lot of restaurants now offer small plates, so it's easy to order something right sized for me where it's not apparent I'm only eating about 1/6 of what a normal person would. I also steered clear of wine - which is also a bit part of the social aspect of business meals - and just ordered water. A great trip - today's a great day - and I am going to remain committed to the plan until I reach my goal! I hope everyone is doing well - Roxine

    February bypass buddies?

Stats first: HW 427.4 (Jan. 2) SW: 413 (Feb. 15) Last week: 369.2 Today: 366.4 So, down 2.8 since last week, 46.6 since surgery, and 61 overall. Wish I were moving a bit faster in terms of weight loss (I miss those first three weeks of averaging 10 pounds a week, but I know that was mostly water weight), but it's still going down more steadily than I ever have before, so I can't really complain. Still using the elliptical for a few minutes a few times a day. When you're as out of shape as I am, even just a few minutes makes for noodle-y legs! Working on building up my time. Have been working on expanding the types of foods I eat because variety = less boredom = success. Am borrowing my mom's boyfriend's MASSIVE air fryer this week to see if I like it. Any suggestions? Tried a wrap from Subway for supper the other night and it was GREAT. So much texture. I got the spinach wrap but only actually ate half the whole thing and the bare minimum of the wrap needed to hold it together (so less than a quarter of the spinach wrap in one sitting). Turkey, bacon, spinach, cucumber, tomato, and light mayo = YUM and CRUNCH (that was always my favorite combo before surgery, but in a footlong on the wheat bread). Ate the second half of the wrap for lunch yesterday. Went out to eat at Cheddar's with a friend on Sunday and had lemon pepper chicken, corn, and broccoli. It came with rice, but I didn't bother with that. $12 (including tip) for about four meals of food. Only downside was I forgot my debit card in the receipt folder, so I had to go back (an hour drive each way) last night to get it! Another good texture/flavor combo: stacks of hint of salt NutThins, garlic & herb Laughing Cow cheese wedge, and turkey pepperoni. That's what I have packed for my lunch today, along with a clementine. Oh, an NSV: I realized yesterday (when getting out my ID to get my debit card back) that I am more than 30 pounds below the weight on my driver's license. I hadn't looked at it in so long, I couldn't remember what it said. It expires in December, so I'll be able to get a new pic and new weight listed on it!

    Poll: What is your goal?

My 2nd time around I started at a HW of 242 at my revision consult. Which was actually heavier than my first wls back in 2010. SW was 226 on 8/8/17. My program never asked me to set a specific goal. If I went by the BMI chart, I should be 142. I had exactly 100lbs of excess weight to lose. My personal goal would be to get to 150. Just at the top of normal on the BMI chart for my height. As of this morning, I have 9lbs to go. My first NSV that really stood out was being able to wear riding boots that weren’t wide calf. Now I can cross my legs easily and even double cross my legs. Also, I tried on jeans on Sunday and was able to put on a size 8 without issue.
  14. Kahkeetsee

    Poll: What is your goal?

I'm 5'3" HW was 412 and CW 357 (still pre-op). My goal is 150, but like someone else said, getting off meds, and walking better are most important. I haven't been under 300 in 35 years. NSV would be increased ability to move around. Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Poll: What is your goal?

I’m 5’1 and my goal is 130 lbs. I’ve got a little over 40 lbs to go! Best NSV- wearing size 10 jeans. I was wearing a tight 24 before surgery. HW: 282.2 lbs SW: 256.4 lbs CW: 173.2
  17. BostonWLKC

    Poll: What is your goal?

I am 5’6 and I think my goal is 150 - which is about the top of my weight range for BMI . Greatest NSV so far is crossing legs comfortably and not having to scooooch up my pants waist to sit down - to cover stomach comfortably in pants [emoji849] HW 242, SW 236- (Bypass 12/20/17) GW#1- 199 [emoji736] (2/11/18) GW#2- 180 [emoji736] (4/2/18) GW#3- 160 CW 175 5’6”
  18. TakingABreak

    Poll: What is your goal?

I am 5'4 and I started at 332. I am currently 256lbs. I would love to be down to 140-150, but ultimately somewhere in the 1's would be great! My greats NSV so far has been having more energy and not having to blink an eyelash when I go to pick out an outfit in my closet. It all fits, most of it too big now!
  19. MsTipps

    Poll: What is your goal?

I'm 5ft 3in. Heaviest weight was 292lb. I was 262 on surgery day on January 12th. Today I'm at 208. My goal is 140lb as it's the heaviest i can weigh with a healthy BMI. My goal may change further into my journey. So far my NSVs have been things like tightening up my belt on a plane, being able to rest my head on my knees, being able to shop in something other than the plus size section... I can't wait to see what else the future has in store. ☺
  20. I’m curious! What is your goal weight? How tall are you? How much weight do you have to lose? What is your proudest NSV? For those of you who have met your goal weight: How many pounds have you lost? How long did it take to reach your goal? I’m 5’2”, starting at 240ish pounds, with an ultimate goal weight of 130

    February bypass buddies?

So I weighed in today at 327.4, I finally broke the 2 week stall this week and down about 3.5 pounds so far this week! NSV so i took my daughter to pigeon forge for her birthday and wanted to do more activities with the family. I got to ride the mountain coaster. AND. Fit with my 5 year old!! I haven’t been on a “ride” in several years due to concerns of my hips fitting and seatbelts! This was glorious for my soul! I also took a bath this week which I haven’t been able to do in a normal sized tub for a couple of years! God is good Hw-378 Sw- 363 (2/27/18) CW-327.8
  24. Eager to post some photographic evidence of my progress so far!  This week will mark the beginning of my fifth month post-op.  The before photos I weighed in at 280.1 the night before my surgery.  The after photos were taken today at my current weight, 229.8.

Some new NSVs include being a size 0 in Torrid dresses and finding my newly purchased size 18s are getting looser and looser.

  25. Update: 7 Weeks Post - 198.4lbs (-24lbs from SW of 222.4lbs--hey, that's 3.4lbs/wk--I'll take it!!!) Basic Macros for 6 Weeks: 450-550 cals; 60-65g protein; <25g fat; <20g carbs Food Volume: 1/2c by volume ALWAYS. I go by volume first. That's about 1.75-2oz protein; 1/2-1oz veggies (no more than 3.5oz by weight) Wow! Big things happened this week, not least of which were doctor appointments that resulted in changing up medications and also discontinuing a medication! Yippeee!!! The cardiologist took me off one of my big time BP drugs and started up a diuretic again -- a different one though. It seems to really help. My BP looks better than before and I'm slowly losing my cankles. Thank you sweet baby Jesus! And my pulmonologist said we should try to discontinue an asthma drug I've been on since about 2000. It's an inhaled steroid and there can be weight gain associated with it. So far, so good on both changes! And the happy miracle is that this week, I've lost about about 8lbs. Now, before everyone goes all sappy. Let me just remind you that most or all of that is fluid. Not real fat loss. But hey, carrying around 8lbs less fluid is grrrrrrEAT! Haha, see what I did there? I also had a NSV! I appropriated a pair of jeans from Mr. No-Hiney himself. They are too big in the waist, but I fill the hiney just fine. They make a great pair of boyfriend jeans. And that means, I can just borrow them and not have to buy anything. Yay me! It's the first time I can claim being more than 25lbs lighter than him since we met! In fact, I haven't been this weight since about 2000. Wowza! I still can't admit that I feel like I'm actually gonna make goal. I'm working on that one. I know it "will come" with time and continued success. But I look at the scale at 198 and think..."Gah! I can't wait until I'm 160lbs again." That was the weight I was when Mr. F. and I first met. And I felt sorta kinda like "all that and a bucket of fried chicken too." I thought I was Miss Thang! Cuz, you know, I was only 10lbs more than my high school weight. LOL. OMG. So weird. I'm still eating repetitiously of the same foods I know I can tolerate (which is a pretty broad food list!). At 6 weeks I'm still eating 1/2c by volume. And I try to limit the weight of any meal to about 3 to 3.5oz max by weight. I honestly don't know if my tummy is talking to my brain. Mainly cuz I think 1/2c volume stretches my tummy, but it doesn't stretch it to top/full capacity. So I'm just abiding by the set volume and knowing that I'm probably safe with that quantity and will do no harm. I'm not gonna test it to see if I can actually eat 3/4c of food by volume. You know? I'm getting about 60-65g of protein in each day and most of that is coming from foods. I look forward to the day (God I hope I don't regret this thought...) when I CAN eat 3/4c of food because I'd like to add in that 1/4c of low carb veggies. So far, I'm staying very low carb, less than 20g per day total carbs. I'm eating protein, a TINY bit of fat from spray EVOO, and eating about 1/2-1oz (weight) of veggies per meal. That leaves me with 1.75-2oz (weight) of protein per meal. It's right on target with the amounts my RD has in the BIG BOOK OF BARIATRICS. LOL. My calories still average between 450-550cals/day. I'm getting in all of my water each day with a minimum of 100fl oz and often going as much as 120fl oz. So all in all--a good and productive week. I'll be back next week to report more.
