Waiting for a burst of energy!
mbrinmn replied to ren0318's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm five weeks out and just regaining my energy. Definitely sleep when you are tired...that lets the body heal itself. But keep up with the Protein shakes and your Vitamins. And make sure you start eating solid foods on the timeframe your doctor set. Solid foods with protein and some carbs in the form or vegetables are really helping the energy factor for me. I just started eating solids this past Sunday. Remember, your body thinks you are trying to starve it, so it will go into defense/survivor mode. Kind of left over from our caveman ancestors who might have to go long periods before getting their next meal. The body knows it uses less energy when sleeping, so fatigue is part of the process. And the 3-week stall is a real thing for most sleeved patients...another way our bodies take over. It knows fat is needed to keep us warm and it's easy to store for future use. Once you're past the liquids and purees...the "starving" phase...your body will balance out and know you're not starving it. Then it will go back to burning fat for energy. Get lots of sleep this week before you go back to work and just keep up with your Protein drinks. This too shall pass. -
Frustrated! What Am I Doing Wrong?

Here's a good article that explains why you have the 3 week stall. http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.html -
OK - That's IT! I am STILL not losing!
rcarter76 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok everyone, I LOVE this forum, because everyone is so positive, helpful, caring, kind and successful! But this is the third week I have not lost weight! I will be 5 weeks out on Monday and lost tons pre-op and 2 weeks post op. I know everyone says there is the 3 week stall (I am going on week 5), and that your body adjusts to eating soft foods from liquids and all that jazz. But this week I checked my caloric intake, (800 per day), my Protein is on target (60-80 g daily) and I drink plenty of H2o. I have been in touch with my nutritionist etc and we tweaked my diet a bit, but that was almost a week ago. What gives? I don't want to be negative nancy or a sourpuss, but this is depressing. I am barely eating, have been walking 1.5-2 miles every other day and am getting plenty of sleep. I would just like to know, has this happened to anyone else, does it start coming off again, and what are your experiences. My doc said that I should not have a plateau for 6 mos to a year , and I am only a month out so I am super concerned. I have my follow up with him next Tuesday, but I feel like he will give me the same old, "Work the plan, the plan will work" adage and I just want to feel good and NORMAL. Please post any such plateaus, regardless of where you hit them, how much you lost in your first month etc. I was 269 day of surgery and have been toggling between 250-253 for over 2 weeks now. Very frustrating. Any suggestions would be appreciated, along with comments, help, and stories. Thanks, Rachel:001_unsure: -
OK - That's IT! I am STILL not losing!

Thanks Ruby! IT looks like after your 3 week stall you lost another 30 in what, 4-5 weeks? That is super encouraging! This is my 3rd week to stall, so let's hope I follow suit. I have stopped eating fruits and have really watched everything and make sure I keep active. I "feel" better, but I should measure this weekend, since I have NO idea what my stats are and at least that would keep me motivated! Jkared, you and I had surgery on the same day, you are DOING GREAT! Thanks for the inspiration and tips! -
Hi! I had my surgery about 5 weeks ago too on April 4th. I still have the restrictions and can’t really eat past 2-3 ounces but I am noticing myself getting more snacky in between meals, so that is a bit concerning to me as well. As silly as it sounds I have been starting to worry that my stomach is growing back lol. In the beginning I wouldn’t feel so snacky but now I am, and not to mention the infamous 3 week stall I have hit for 2 weeks now! But tomorrow is weigh in day and I pray I broke it. i haven’t even eaten fruits yet as my diet says I can’t until like 3months, lucky you because I REALLY want a pineapple. good luck to you and I’m sure everything will be fine. Just try to track what you’re eating it really makes a difference and makes you more conscious, so even if you don’t feel the restriction you are still putting nutrients and protein in your body.

I was sleeved 6/10/15 and have lost 26 pounds since surgery day (35 pounds lost including presurgery loss). I had a 3 week stall that lasted about 10 days. Now it seems to be coming off a bit slower. I talked to my nutritionist just last Thursday and she said I should try getting my calorie intake up to about 800-1000 calories a day and this will help with the stalls. I was only getting 550-650 before. I'm trying to get closer to that 800 mark but its hard with getting enough Protein and fluids too.

Day 13. Gutting it out.
Oopsseedaisy replied to crosswind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just keep following doctors orders. You will get out of this with time. (You can remind me of this next week when I hit the 3 week stall) We had surgery on the same day and I lost 8 pounds the first week and 4 the second. I started on pureed foods on day 6 and soft on day 11. I was so glad I did not have to stay on liquids as long as you and others. Today is the first day I met my protein goal, but have been meeting my liquid goal since day 4. I sure hope it gets better for you! -
I had vsg on 3/31 and on surgery day was 227 today I am at 202 [emoji20] Sometimes I feel a little discouraged, but then remember everyone is different and everyones plan is different. My surgeons plan has us on soft foods within 2 day. Liquids are only in the hospital, I left the hospital eating greek yogurt, cottage cheese and stuff like that. The one thing I am hoping for is that since weight loss is slower but steady, maybe I wont lose much hair, lol. Just follow your dr's plan and let your tool do it's work. Just think in 6 months if you lose steadily you will be down at least 50 lbs. Dont sweat the stalls either, I had an almost 3 week stall about 9 days after surgery, that was a little torture on the mind, but it also passed. Good Luck on your journey!! 2 Weeks out and Suddenly nauseous - CANT STAND LIQUIDS!
sasicas replied to erinawol's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most people stall around 3 weeks, just do a search of 3 week stall and you will be amazed at how many posts there are. Also dehydration can make you feel extremely nauseous so you might need to get rehydrated by iv, many people deal with that too. Personally I don't think you need to worry so much about the protein shakes, get in what you can, try adding protein to jello or pudding too to get some additional protein in but your body will be fine. I have not been able to tolerate protein drinks since surgery and I did liquids for 2 weeks pre-op and about 7 weeks post op due to complications yet my labs at 3 months were fine. The MOST important thing is staying hydrated. Try different temps of water, some deal better with hot, some with cold, some with room temp, also many people use CrystalLite (sp?) to change it up some. -

I've Hit The Dreaded 3-Week Stall...ugh!
purplefaery replied to McButterpants's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks for posting this again, Butter! I think I've read it about 4 times, but it is just such a good article! Plus, I think I'm almost there myself... Sleeved on 11/21, and this was the first time I gained 0.5 lbs. I'm just reminding myself its just Water. Also, I've read a lot of people tend to lose inches during the 3 week stall, and I'm excited for that part... I'm down almost 100 pounds since my highest weight and have only dropped 2-3 sizes, depending on the brand. I am starting to get a little more frustrated with that aspect of things... Anyway, thanks again for the great article! -
7lbs in three weeks seems pretty darn good to me! As others have said, the 3 week mark often brings a slow down (search 3 week stall) and that will end. BUT it's also unrealistic to expect to continue to lose at the rate you did your first two weeks--10lbs a week is not sustainable--10lbs a month is more common. You often lose the most weight the first two weeks of any diet.

Sounds like the dreaded 3-week stall which you can find on the boards with a search. Sounds like you're doing great. Just stick to your plan & the weight will come off.

Tomorrow will be 3 weeks that I've been the same weight. Starting weight was 240 Day of surgery was 228 sleeved 1/22 Today 208........yes I'm down 32 pounds but not a single one in 3 weeks. Stalls happen and I just added Zumba to my regimen, increased my fluids, and increased my Proteins. I'm also starting to monitor my sodium more....hoping doing all that will help! -
I had my surgery 2/4. I have been stalled since 2/8, I have not lost 1 lb. is that normal this early into the process? I hear about the 3 weeks stall but mine is a less than one week stall. I am doing everything the Dr. told me.

Can you post what your food intake looks like over the course of the day? Dec, Jan, Feb surgeries
Guest replied to idk4w's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Absolutely. If you ate, say, 600 Calories on a Wednesday. And if, on that Wednesday, you burned, for example, 1800 calories, then you lost body fat. On that day, you lost body fat. And a little of other things, some protein. Not from muscle primarily like people say but from skin and intestinal lining which are high turnover proteins. The scale doesn't always reflect that linearly. You may retain water, or have inflammation. The people who say "I lost 21lb in the first two weeks and in week three I've stalled" - well, it's simple nonsense! They didn't lose anywhere close to 21lb in two weeks. It's takes a caloric deficit of 3500 Calories to lose 1lb which means that they'd have needed a deficit of 5250 Calories per day. Which even if they ran a marathon and ate absolutely nothing, is impossible. So...they almost certainly lost inflammation weight after their operation trauma, glycogen/water if their carbohydrate levels are much lower than pre-operatively and there will be other aspects too like serious dehydration. And this infamous 3 week stall? Well, all those things are largely finished and most people won't be doing the KFC buckets with extra fries in week three, so why is it? Normally increased fibre, giving roughage weight in the intestine and rehydration due to the ability to drink more water. -
So after I lost all the water weight from surgery, I lost 10lbs- all by week 1.5. Now? Nothing. I'm just past my 2 week mark now. Did I get the infamous 3 week stall early? Also sick of feeling kinda crappy multiple times per day. And who has time to eat 8x per day?? And do they really expect it to take 1/2 hour + to eat 2oz of food?? Very frustrated.

Krimsonbutterflies replied to Mello1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One thing that's true for me is the 2-3 week stall. I'm not going to get my nerves in a bundle, 15 days out and I'm 12 pounds down, I'll take it. I have my ideas for this wls journey, I'm going to release control and go with the flow. -
I had a 3 week stall at 3 weeks.lol. Hang in there and measure to see if inches are coming off then you're doing great. I feel better too but only walking 1 mile a day..being kind to my knee's. I have gone from 18w jeans to 16 and they are getting loose.YAY!! I'm still trying to work this tool but my loss is satisfactory to me:) and I'm 6 weeks out tommorrow. Does anyone know when we can start sit-ups and other exercises?Carla:confused1:

How long did your STALL last?
Kindle replied to JaneJaneDoe's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I never weighed that much so the only stall I ever knew about was a month long around 2-3 months postop. If you don't want to stall, then follow your plan and don't step on the scale. I "avoided" the 3 week stall by not weighing between 2 and 6 weeks postop. -
Nice going! Broke through my own 3 week stall and have lost about 4#. Like you, hoping the next stall is way off.

I can't seem to get past the 3 week stall. [emoji20] I'm a month out from Lapband revision with Gastric bypass. At 3 weeks, when I went to the pureed stage, hit the stall. I've increased my walking, a bit frustrated and concerned. Any suggestions or insight welcomed! Thanks for the support!
