  1. I love the weekend. I am home all week, some days till after 5 pm by myself. The weekend comes and the house is full of my kids, thier friends and my husband. I have people to tlak to. Yay!! Breakfast: Poached egg with quinoa Lunch: chili mac with low carb noodles Dinner: Hmmmm, well for the family it's going to be london broil, corn on the cob and mashed potatos For me: CAROLYN'S POOR MAN'S LOBSTER 4 ounce fresh or frozen haddock fillet * Water 1/2 teaspoon white vinegar 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 2 teaspoons granular Splenda or equivalent liquid Splenda 1 tablespoon light butter, melted Garlic or garlic powder, to taste Place the fish in a deep-sided skillet. Add just enough water to cover the fish. Add the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Use this much vinegar, salt and Splenda per fillet. Boil 5-8 minutes or until the fish turns white and feels firm but isn't flaking. Remove the fish from the water with a slotted spoon. Place on a broiler pan and broil 2 minutes per side to dry out the fish. Combine the melted butter and garlic powder; serve the fish dipped in the garlic butter. Makes 1 serving Can be frozen * A 4 ounce fillet will yield between 2 1/2 and 2 3/4 ounces of cooked fish. I think I will have steamed spinach with it.

    Weight Gain

Hi, I am 5 months post op from my gastric sleeve surgery! I weigh myself every Saturday morning once a week. Since the Gastric Sleeve surgery I had lost 59 lbs. Got on the scale and it said I gaine 3.7 lbs. in 1 week since last weigh in...anyone have did happen? I did not deviate from my diet seems odd. Out of 22 weeks I have gained weight in only 4 weeks usually lose between .5 - 2 lbs per week! thanks, Rob
  3. Get in a Protein shake that's 20+ grams of protein but to be honest it took me a month to get in over 400 calories. I was on liquid for two weeks and then mushies for the next 4 with Protein shakes if needed but when I first started solids this is what I would consume: 4 egg whites (16 grams of protein) 68 calories 1/2 cup ff cottage cheese (16 grams of protein) 90 calories 1 chicken thigh slow cooked no bone/skin (14 grams of protein) 110 calories 2 cups of skim milk (16 grams of protein) 160 calories Totals 62 grams of protein 428 calories Of course check with your doctor and nutiritionist but this worked for me.

    8 weeks out!

You look great, what a difference 8 weeks has made. I had my surgery 3 weeks ago, Congratulations again.
  5. Im only two weeks out and it looks pretty good
  6. Thanks...I already am moving more than I was before surgery.....I am keeping track of the little successes....like the first week home I walked three of the 7 days. This week I have managed to walk 6 of them, AND have spent two days in a row doing laundry all day AND have packed two rooms for our move. ALL of which was more than I could even begin to do the week before surgery. Today, even tho I didn't get a chance to walk, I did spend about 40 minutes playing with my weights here at home--both my upper body and lower body. Before my RA dx, I was very active....exercise has never been my enemy till the past few years. However, my weight has been a problem all my life......I am just happy to be able to move more than I have for the past few years. Just trying to get past my mom's comments AGAIN.
  7. I have noticed in the past that when I hit the stalls (on other diets) it is usually then that by body was adjusting to the loss ithad already had & during that time I was losing inches. Have you tracked your inches, I like to do that & when a stall happens I would check them and found that this was what was happening to me. Don't get discouraged, you will start losing again.

  9. I was freaked out leaving my dh and three little ones at the hotel when we went for the surgery. I was alone (or Eric was in hell with three ages three and under in ahotel in a foreign country) for about 4 hours. Doctor Ortiz's mom brought DH and the three for a visit at about three in the afternoon. I had already been up and walking. I needed to nurse the smallest one. I took no morphine or other drugs because of this fact. I then retuned to the hotel at about 8 pm that night. So I could be with them. It was so nice and really not that bad. If I could have had them at the hospita the whole time - I would. Knowing that if there was a problem DH would be there too. I was really worried about that. It however worked out great . In regards to telling spouse. It wasn't a problem for me- dh and I had been discussing it for months- He was surprised it took me so long to get it done. I think he was really worried at first, but he saw how much research I did and etc, and he realized I was serious. I also made sure he new I had the will done and letters of intent incase there was a problem. Good Luck!!!

I told limited people and waited till a couple of weeks before surgery to do that. My kids were stunned. Worried about how risky it was and then acted as if I didn't tell them. Another family member, who never dealt with weight, stated how all she had to do to be healthy was make a life style change. People who haven't dealt with the physical and emotional pain of obesity don't understand doing this. We are doing it for ourselves. Good luck to you. Sent from my VS986 using the BariatricPal App

    March 10Th Check In

I haven't had anything to post as of late. I am still stuck in the 184 range - since the beginning of January. I went for my 6 month check up and my surgeon seemed happy with the loss and said that I am at 47% loss of excess weight. She said I may only end up losing 50-60% in total. I am not happy with that and while I am determined to prove her wrong the scale seems to be agreeing with her right now. I am still walking & exercising but haven't done as much in the last two weeks as I did in Jan & Feb. I go through periods of extreme frustration at the scale and then times when it doesn't bother me as much. I have tried all kinds of things - more exercise, less carbs, more & less calories. Not sure what to do at this point....
  14. sliming happens to me all the time... i guess i'm too dense to learn I'm 5 weeks post op... got my first fill this week. Fortunately I've been eating slowly so haven't had any issues... Sliming isn't fun.. but it's another method the band uses to teach us to eat better. Best of luck to yoU!!!

    Post Surgery Workouts?

I was working out 6 days a week but I also was 2+ yr out of Lapband surgery and have lost 100 lbs. I had my revision to the sleeve on 5/23 after my band slipped. I know that's why I am so eager to get back to my routine because I feel better when I'm working out and sweating, also I have a feeling my pain levels were next to nothing because I'm numb from my belly button to my very upper thighs from my skin removal/abdominoplasty. You'll feel like working out when your body is ready - it helped me a ton with the loose skin!
  16. Really having a hard time of it right now. Yesterday I went to see my parents who have been sick since the weekend before my surgery. I had my two weeks and one day ago. Since beginning my journey in February I have already gone down 5 pants sizes (from barely squeezing into my 26's to easily zipping and having room in my 18's now). I have lost 30+ lbs--15 of which were in the last two weeks. I am barely getting in 400 calories a day and choking down my Protein drinks......and my mom asked "are you sure this is going to work?" Mind you this is the woman who has been after me to have this surgery for the past 10 years. Now that I have actually done it and can't go back she is like "are you sure you aren't eating too much?" "are you sure this is going to work"........ I went from feeling great about myself and my progress, to feeling like a complete and total failure once again. I can't avoid her as she and my dad are very sick and need us three kids to step up and care for them. It has been bad enough that I can't be there to help her in and out of bed since I have had surgery and can't lift more than 5 lbs. I guess I am just looking for someone to reassure me that Yes this does work. That yes, if I follow my dr's rules and move more and eat less I will lose weight. That my mom is just being her usual critical self and it isn't about this surgery--that the surgery is just the most recent thing for her to pick about. You would think that by the time I am nearly 45 I would be over her nit-picking......but I"m not..........
  17. Hi, I am scheduled to start the pre op diet around the last two weeks of April. I am trying to figure out how this works. As I understand it, for two weeks I am only having shakes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and a cup of either vegetables or fresh fruit. No carbs or starchy veggies. The written instructions say "if you need it" I can have a snack of a piece of fruit. Now, after surgery, there will be no fills for at least 6 weeks. During that time I am mostly going to be on liquids and towards the end soft 'mushies". So that is two months of starvation with no assistance or restriction. If I can not lose weight on my own, how am I supposed to get through this? I was recently following a normal carb counting diet for diabetics and every night I went to bed with sharp hunger pains in my chest area. I kept thinking that the pre op diet is going to hurt worse. Herbal tea helps but really, I just dont understand how this works. Does the smaller pouch cause less hunger pangs??? I really need an answer because I am wavering and do not want to change my mind about surgery.

    1 week Post op.....

I thought I was in the clear with gas pains being I was 6 days after surgery. That is until last night, when it all seems to hint my, my shoudler has been killing me. I haven't had to take my pain meds until last night. I am surprised by the delay. Once I eat anything it starts hurting even more. AAHHHHH

  21. I had my lapband surgery done 3 weeks ago and I self-paid. I tried to use my insurance but they found a bunch of little reasons to turn me down and sent me a 2-page letter on how to resubmit. One of their reasons was that my doctor did not validate that I had been overweight for at least 5 years. (She has only been my doctor for 4 years, PLUS I have had the same insurance for 25 years so they should know how much a I weigh.) I didn't want to wait any longer so I paid for it myelf. Anyway, your question about the psych exam... Basically they just want to know that you understand that the lap-band is just a tool, that you still need to watch what you eat. They are interested in finding out if your know what triggers you to eat - - i.e. do you graze from dinner to bedtime, do you have to eat when you watch TV, are you addicted to ice cream, or potato chips? And what are you going to do to change that behavior since none of that behavior is due to hunger? All they are assessing is do you have the mindset and tools to be successful. In my exam there were questions about whether or not my family would be supportive or try to undermine me. Mine is supportive but if you do not have the support they help you understand that you will have to get it from somewhere else because this is life changing and you can not fight your way through it with a family that tries to make you fail. It's all the basic stuff you would expect them to ask. They are just trying to make sure that you are really aware how your life will need to change once you have the procedure. Good luck! I can honestly say that this was the best decision I ever made.

    it's happening...

Advice: "No food tastes as good as skinny feels." I was told that pre op. And I tell you, every pant size and shirt size I go down, I'd trade a week of fast food for in a heartbeat.

New here, but I am just the wife

Hey there!! I think this is awesome that you are on here to learn everything you can and are so supportive!! I'm only 5 months post op and have been married 5 years, however having your spouse supportive is a must in my book! I have been extremely lucky in the sense that I had an easy recovery and life was back to normal completely for me after 2 weeks (after the first 4 days, things got way better!). Feel free to ask any questions on here and people are more than willing to help! Good luck to your husband!
  24. Okay just checked calendar and last nutrition appt is potentially 11/25. Can insurance get approved in time for a surgery within 2-3 weeks? Ideally my drop dead date for surgery would be the 20th which is oddly enough my bday! Lol. But would prefer the previous week. Is that doable? Sent from my SM-T567V using the BariatricPal App
