    Help!

I drank my protein and took my pills. I'll be out 2 weeks on Thursday. Should I be concerned?
  2. rharriet62

    Where does the restriction go?

In two weeks, you can adjust to a fill and decide if you need another one. Since it's only your second fill, I'd book another one so you can build up to some restirction. I'm in the same situation...I had a complete unfill and have had two fills...the last one a week ago...and I'm going to schedule this week to get my third fill next week because I don't have much restriction at 2.3 ccs. You know by the amount you can eat and how much restriction you feel if you need one. Rose

2 and 1/2 weeks post op

Well, it's been 2 and 1/2 weeks since my sugery. I have lost 10 pounds and 11 inches off my body. I can't see a difference yet when I look in the mirror but my clothes are fitting looser. I am pretty happy with the results so far. I do enjoy working out and it definitly makes me a happier person. I have a long way to go but I know I can do this. Good luck to the rest of you, we can all do it!!:smile2:

    Another Nsv!

I ran an entire mile without stopping for the first time in 10 years. I am three months post opt, down 35 lbs and running again. I feel so blessed.
  5. During my losing phase, my average per week was 5-7lbs. Then it kind of slowed to 3-5lbs per week for the next 4 months. That's just averages. Some weeks I'd lose 1-2lbs then the next week I'd drop 7-9lbs. It varied for the first 4 months dramatically.
  6. I decided when I started this journey in May 2015 that I wanted to live. I wanted to physically live to see grandchildren, but I also wanted to fully engage in life. I have been doing that pretty well for 60 years but I didn't want to decay bit by bit as I saw family members age with health issues. So I had surgery in late September. Part of the process was going to be a trip to Europe with my just graduated college child. She has been my biggest supporter (this morning - mom, I can Heimlich you now as she wrapped her arms around me for a hug). We just got back from three wonderful weeks in Great Britain. I climbed every one of the hundreds of steps in each castle. Walked five to 10 miles a day. Had a flat in London that was two flights up. Up and down stairs in the tube. At one cathedral I thought I had reached the top, only to find another staircase even twister and steeper than the first few. I looked up and could see no end to it. I turned away and started back down. I stopped. Did I do all this to not go to the tip-top of the cathedral? Of course not. I deserved the whole experience and that included the breath-taking view from the very top. The best though was passport control when I arrived. The immigration officer looked at my passport, then me, and said, well you've lost a lot of weight. Good job. I smiled and told him thanks. And made a mental note to get a new passport. I have many more trips ahead and although I enjoyed his noticing, I want all future immigration officers to see a face that matches the passport! Oh, and I lost five pounds!

  9. MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH

    what can I eat?

OK guys and gals. My surgery date is 1 week from this coming Monday. I am going 2morrow to buy grocries for the family and have decided to go ahead and by some stuff for myself. Only thing is, I'm not sure what to buy. I have heard that I will be on clear liquids and this is fine by me. Can someone help me out on what I can get. Can I get like jello and cream of chicken soup or what. Chicken Broth comes to mind, I can tollerate it, but I don't exactly love it. If anyone dont mind, can they give me a few ideas of what to pick up. Also, what can I drink, apple juice, is this ok or what? Help me out here please.
  10. 57lbs down just thought I'd share that ) btw I'm still losing an average 3 to 5 lbs a week! How about you?!?!

    4 days post op! Confused

I had a hernia repair as well when I got my lapband put in and I also noticed some strange spasms! My surgeon's office said it will ease up and it has I'm almost 2 weeks post op now and I rarely have spasms anymore. When you feel more restricted, I've found it helpful to sip hot liquids like tea and broth. It seems to soothe the band, if that makes any sense haha. Best of luck to you!

    out of control.

I put on 10 lbs before surgery-and then had to loose 18 lbs before they would perform the surgery My Dr counted the weight I had on the day I first saw him, the weight I had to loose was initially 8 lbs but because it takes a while to do all the testing and getting approval I gained 10 more lbs. In April I had to start dieting I had 5 weeks to loose the weight by my pre op check in-or surgery would be cancelled. I did manage to loose it thank goodness

    3 weeks post op

3 weeks post op and having a drink, I am 10 weeks and way to scared to have a drink! Just be careful and enjoy
  15. It looks like from what you are allowed to eat, that the surgeon has you on a pretty low carb diet until surgery. The purpose for that is to shrink your liver so it doesn't sustain any tears or damage during surgery since they have to lift the liver out of the way to get to your stomach. My surgeon had me on 20 carbs or less per day leading for 2 weeks prior to surgery and like you, I loved fruit and needed something fresh! My NUT said as long as I don't go over 20 carbs, I can use some of them for fruit if I really want to. Every morning, I'd eat two strawberries, sliced very thinly and savored every piece. I'd have less carbs to use for the day, but doing that kept me sane. Berries are much better than apples to eat if allowed, since they are much lower in carbs per serving than an apple- pineapple, grapes, papaya etc are even higher! If you really want to eat fruit, check with you NUT and/or surgeon and ask if is allowable as long as you measure and track your carbs...you never know until you ask, but ask before doing it. If your liver does not shrink enough, they can not finish the surgery (in rare cases)- so it is definitely worth following your surgeon's advice!

    Jan 21

Jan 21, 06 -- Saw Dr. Billy on Thursday and he gave me the all clear. He and I discussed what I was doing now opposed to what I was NOT doing with the band. I am doing the Nutrisystem meals and counting my calories like mad. I am ever so gradually getting back into my exercise routine. He also wants me to start two lists. SIGH!! One list is of the "thing" that are keeping me from losing weight. Something like eating after 8p, or eating too many calories, etc. Then state how I can correct that issue. Make a plan on how to correct the behavior. The second list is of all the foods I love to eat. Once I have exhausted my pea brain of the items, he wants me to begin with the first item and learn everything I can about that food. He wants me to take a picture of the food per the serving. If chicken is my first item then get a pic of a serving (4 oz) both cooked and uncooked. Learn what the calorie and protein values are of that serving. Take the pic and the info and put it into a folder or notebook so I can refer to it. Do that with all the foods I list. Pic one food a week to learn all I can about it. This will be an exercise in diligence. And consistency as well. SIGH!! OH If I had just done this while I was banded. All in all he was very pleased with my progress while on Nutrisystem. He wants to see me in about 8 weeks. We did not even discuss my options post band removal. I guess it really is too soon to discuss that. In the meantime, I have just completed my Video for the Biggest Loser. YIPPEE!!! I will get that mailed off in the next couple of days. I wanna tweak it some.

Another before picture, taken about 6 weeks before surgery. Weight about 275.
  19. Getting excited and nervous! Surgery approved and scheduled for September 4th with the possibility they may move it to the 3rd due to a cancellation. All my pre-op lab work and testing is done and without any concerns. Same for my psych eval, barium swallow, chest x-ray, EKG, and EGD. Did all my pre-op nutrition appointments (I was fast tracked, so there weren't as many as most of you had). Did the pre-op group class where they explained my pre-op diet and what to expect at the hospital and post op. Started my bariatric vitamins last week. Purchased any food/supplies that I think I might need for the first couple weeks post op (my husband even told me to get him a new bigger TV so I can have a TV in my room the first couple days lol... and he got a 65" screen out of it lol). Today I did my final pre-op weigh in and doctor visit. Saw another doc first (teaching hospital), then my real doc. Signed my surgery consent. Too my surprise, the doc also told me that it doesn't matter how much weight I lose now, I am totally approved for surgery (before I had to be careful I didn't put myself under a certain weight and disqualify myself). YAY! I also asked him about how much time I can take off work (I have 14 weeks of sick time saved up and a supportive employer- not that I actually want 14 weeks off, just didn't take all my sick time over the many years I worked there). He said a minimum of 2 weeks but up to 8 since I do have a fairly physical job. YAY! I could probably get away with going back early, but why push myself when I have the time and support? I would rather heal, adjust to my new diet(s) over the next month or so, and slowly build a new fitness routine before going back to the craziness that is work. Not sure how many weeks I will actually take off, but good to know I have options. And then finally, I went to a pre-op anesthesia appointment. Answered all of their questions and signed their consent. So... all that is left is to call and confirm the time of my surgery the afternoon before! And how did I celebrate? I got my last meal of my favorite Indian food. Yum! And my husband is TRYING to be supportive of all of this, but he really doesn't want me to have what he considers to be elective surgery. I understand where he is coming from, especially since every one of his surgeries has had some sort of complications. But my surgeries have all been routine and without complication. And I really need to improve my health and this seems to be the only way to get me there.

    Vitamins

It varies from doctor to doctor. Mine is on the conservative side. I take a multi 2 x's a day, Calcium Citrate 2x's a day, D3 1 x a day and B12 sublingual once a week. Pretty sure if there's a zombie attack vitamins are the least of your worries.
  21. I would like to know your Vitamin schedule and how to take these bitterly crushed pills. I was informed by my NUT that I will be taking pillls crushed for the first 6 weeks. Suffering through the bitterness of it all. She has me taking Prilosec OTC, 5 Calcium citrate w/vit D, B-50 complex, Ursodiol (for prevention of Gallstones empty the capsule), plus 5 other prescription tablets. (These are the things I have to take crushed each day). I also take 2 chewable Centrums a day and a sublingual B-12 once a week. This is my ideal day of taking Vitamins Take chewable Centrum upon waking About 2 hours later, I try to take 1 calcium citrate, B-50, and Ursodiol. After another few hours, I try to remember to take another 2 calcium citrate About 5:30 or 6:00 I take the last 2 calcium citrate and my prescription meds. About 8:00 or 9:00 take the last chewable Centrum. I have not yet figured out a way to take these without having to suffer through the bitterness. I just crush them all, make a little paste with Water in a small dose cup and try to get it down as quick as possible. I can't believe they haven't yet come back up on me after taking them because the taste is horrible. What ways did you use to get through crushing your meds and taking them?

what is your weight loss at 3 mos post op?

What I can tell you is there is no norm on what people lose in a certain amount of time. The factors already stated above influence - age, starting weight, etc. My signature below shows my weight loss the past 13 weeks. I have lost almost 50 pounds since surgery (5'7" 236 starting weight and today I weighed 187.5). I have never hit a stall, but I've consistently lost at a snail's pace. Please note it took me 7 weeks to get through the 190's!!! I started walking on the treadmill for 1-1.5 hours daily the past few weeks. While the scale isn't reporting much, my body composition is changing. Exercise makes a HUGE difference! I found that I was becoming skinny-fat. Don't just base success on what you weigh. I found I was losing a lot of muscle weight and everything was just sagging. Not anymore. Exercise plus my slow weight loss has meant I have very little sagging skin! I have learned to accept my slow weight loss. Comparing myself to others loosing 3-7 pounds per week just leaves me feeling discouraged.

    7 days out and struggling

you're down to your original surgery weight because, like most of us, you probably "gained" weight while in the hospital because of all the IV fluids. It can take up to a week for them to work their way out of your system. I've heard of people "gaining" as much as 10 lbs while in the hospital! fluids go through our stomachs really fast since our pyloric valves were bypassed, so I'd be very surprised if you could stretch your stomach from fluids. Maybe you could if you REALLY slammed them, but 40-50 oz over the course of the day isn't "really slamming" them. I've never heard of anyone doing that from drinking fluids, and we were never warned we could stretch our stomachs from that. So...I'm not sure what to say...

How Do You Journal Your Food

Initially i wrote all my food down plus my weight and how many hours of sleep and exercise. I really like being able to go back and see how I progressed and also what I was eating when I did well and not so well. I too have used my fitness pal and have enjoyed the many features. I especially like when you finish logging in at the end of the day it says " if every day is like today, in five weeks you will weigh XXX pounds". I find that motivating. Even though I like it, I am back to writing down everything as I have put myself back to basics. I have stopped calorie counting as I was getting in to the crazy diet mentality head space again. I went and bought a pretty little notebook that is the same size of my iphone and write in there so it is not a big deal to throw it in your purse or pocket. All the best to you!

    Swimming in a pool

My surgeon was on the conservative side, 6 weeks but usually once your incisions are totally healed. That way there is no chance of infection.
