I didn't have to cheat. I was allowed (smooth no fruit) Greek yogurt doing my full liquid stage. Add some fairlife milk to make it a liquid?!!! -

Yogurt (regular and greek smooth, no chunks) was included in my list of approved foods for the full liquid phase. You should have been given a list of acceptable foods for each stage. There are medical reasons for the process to advance your diet, so it's more than just "cheating" at this stage. Each doctor has a different diet advancement plan, you need to stick to what your doc has advised. My doc had me advancing much more quickly than most of the other plans people have discussed here, so what was on my plan might not be OK with your doc. -
I had yogurt 4 days after the surgery. No chunks and one little cup would last me an entire day. You put it on your tongue and let it melt. I could not have broth and it was either that or nothing. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

There is a reason it's called the liquid phase and soft foods. Yogurt is thick. You stomach is very swollen right now and the opening is very small. Even liquids will cause a backup in the esophagus. Eating something like yogurt will take longer to dribble into as well as out of your stomach. I understand the cravings, but honestly; is a yogurt really worth setting a precedent in your mind that it is ok to cheat already? -

@FloC I had my RNY on October 18 so we're at the same place. My surgery went really well and I was discharged on Friday the 21st. I've been so worried about becoming dehydrated that I have forced myself to sip, sip, sip constantly and I always have something in my hand to sip. I've managed to take in roughly 68 oz a day. You are so close to your 2 liters! Just keep sipping along. Maybe add Crystal Lite or something like that? Not easy at first but quickly has become second nature to keep sipping. I got to start pureed foods today which I was so excited and ready for but it's kinds of thrown me off my drinking schedule :-( For breakfast I had a scrambled egg and it was delicious! I had 6 bites (using a "sample" spoon) and I stopped when I thought it was time. In a short time I knew I had eaten too much or too fast. food just sat there in my chest. It took about an hour before I started feeling better. I've decided that at least in the beginning I'm going to stick to Protein shakes for breakfast and maybe lunch, too, and then pureed food for supper and drinking my liquids in between. I'm trying to get all my Vitamins and supplements scheduled in to my day as well. It kind of feels overwhelming but I think if I write things down it'll start to fall into place. As for foods to eat? Mayo Clinic Rochester Nutritional Guidelines recommends: Scrambled eggs, Soups (some may need to be strained or pureed), mashed potatoes, yogurt, refried Beans, pureed lean meats, pureed soft vegetables, cottage cheese, pureed lean meat, fish, poultry, lite/light frozen yogurt and ice cream, no-sugar-added/sugar-free pudding and custard. I agree that the term snacking is somewhat vague. Like many of you who already posted, I eat about every 3-4 hours, Protein "meals" which consist of about 2 ounces of yogurt, sliced turkey, cheese or Protein shake or maybe chicken. Usually fish for "dinner", again 2 or maybe 3 oz.

I am allowed 4-6 small meals a day - 3 hrs apart. No "snacking" really. If you're going to snack - be sure it's protein (cheese, a slice of chicken, cottage cheese, greek yogurt). Try not getting into the habit of grazing.

I took my prenatal and a multi. Plus my other vitamins as usual. And biotin. As far as eating goes I just ate the same as I would normally eat. Protein!! Eggs. Gree k yogurt. Chicken. Make sure you take your iron too. -

Full liquids are tough to get creative with, but I had a few good things. I got potato, bacon and cheddar low fat cream Soup and blended it until it was smooth and that was probably one of the best things I ate. I also got some Cinnabon flavored cream of wheat and made it with unsweetened almond milk. Cinnamon applesauce, sugar free pudding cups, greek yogurt, cream of chicken soup. It's not easy but it was a DEFINITE step up from clears. -
Not really starving myself, having Protein shakes with greek yogurt, strawberries, pumpkin puree, carrot puree, light cranberry juice. That's only twice a day. Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App

I agree with @bufflehead. I'll do real sugar if it is a small amount and it's "worth it" but I try to use other sweeteners for foods that normally are high in sugar. Overall I just avoid sweet stuff. I always hated fake sugar preop. I started trying stevia products, which I find slightly more tolerable. I still don't love it but I can deal with it for certain foods. For example, greek yogurt is such a great source of healthy Protein, but many brands have a ton of sugar! I eat a stevia or splenda version of those. However, to sweeten my morning tea, I use the real thing because I use such a small quantity. Also, I'm trying to see food as fuel, not a primary source of pleasure so eating fake sugar foods is less likely to make me want to overeat them. Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App -
I eat All Bran Buds mixed in with my yogurt all the time for the fiber. I also eat old fashion shredded wheat. You know the giant pillow looking thing? I just let it soak up all the milk it can hold. Why no preop diet?

My surgeon only does a 3 day pre-op diet, and I can have yogurt, low fat soup, and cottage cheese as well as Protein shakes, etc. He does a liver biopsy during surgery because most obese people have a fatty liver. I don't know if I have one now, I wonder how many people even know before surgery? Is there any other way to diagnose it?? I just googled it and it says that they can diagnose it by doing an ultrasound or MRI. The article that I mentioned in my other post, said that most obese people have it and if you don't, then you are pretty lucky. Maybe the surgeons just assume you do and do the liquid diet just in case. I'm not sure if they can tell by blood work or not. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -

I'm only 6 days out and I'm not allowed to have meat yet, not even puréed. I'm on Protein shakes, yogurt, thinned not cereals, cottage cheese (which I'm told has too be mashed with a fork but I don't eat it anyway)and mashed potatoes.. Thank you! This not only cost me a lot financially, it is costing emotionally. I really don't want to screw this up. Today, for ex I had a Protein shake for Breakfast, 2 small pieces of salmon baked for lunch, veggie/red lentil Soup, no fat and a tiny bit of greek yogurt 0% fat with frozen berries and I am up a lb maybe 2. I'm super nervous! -

I am a newbie and had my surgery on May 27th and have had issues since. My surgeon said I could have flat Soda if that helps. Right after I had surgery I had no interest in food or drink and was in a ton of pain. I ended up taking dilaudid for 3 weeks and I also had mild nausea so I took zofran every so often. I finally was feeling okay again and then 2 days later the extreme nausea hit. I took my 8 mg zofran and it did nothing, I thought maybe I was hungry so I tried to eat..huge mistake. I threw it up and the nausea got worse and then the pain started. I gave it another day and when I still felt so sick I went to the ER. Just the smell of coffee made me want to throw up. I could not be around food or think about food I was so nauseous. I ended up staying in the hospital for 9 days and they did an endoscopy to open up a kink I had in the connection from my stomach to my intestines. They put a picc line in and I had to give myself infusions every night to give me fluids and nutrients since I couldn't eat or drink. I did not eat or drink anything for over a month because of the horrible nausea. I finally was able to start eat and drink a bit a month or 2 ago but I still have issues getting enough Protein and Fluid in. I am trying all different Protein drinks and powders but I'm really only able to eat a yogurt small amounts of protein throughout the day. Right now my intake st each meal is a 5 oz yogurt or 2-3 oz protein and 1 oz veggies. I had been giving myself those infusions all the way up to a week and a half ago. That was when I had my second blood infection from the picc line and landed me in the hospital again. I often read the stories of others experiences and how great they are doing and I can't help but be jealous. My surgeon assures me that this is normal and it happens to a few people after the surgery. He said it should go away after a few days or months, they aren't sure. Well it has been months and I'm still suffering. It has been a long road. I had my gallbladder removed last Tuesday and went home from the hospital on Wednesday. I was back in the ER on Saturday and am now in the hospital again awaiting results from tests to see why I am in extreme pain with vomiting... Even though I have had a really tough time I don't regret the surgery. It's saved my life. Starting weight:540 Surgery weight :480 Current weight:383 I wish you the best of luck!
