    Halo Top ice cream

@ I have been buying Halo Top for months. A pint lasts me, 6-8 weeks. I never finish one, I end up tossing them. I weigh my portion and I have 1/2 a portion about a time, so about 35-40 calories a pop. I don't like ice cream so its not an issue to me. If I ever went nuts and ate a whole container, the whole thing is 240 calories, I struggle to get enough calories every day anyway so it wouldn't matter to me. The macros and ingredients make sense to me, and I like it. I haven't had any in about 3 months because I kept wasting it but I think its a great option. And the macros are better than most of the yogurts that people eat on here. Also with all the people that are eating pulled pork in BBQ sauce and other things. And lets not forget the trash macros of PB2. And @@Clementine Sky is right. The consistency, taste and a lot of other things about it make is basically impossible to just graze on or munch on or over eat. It takes a little work, it isn't like normal ice cream even though it tastes like normal ice cream. If I liked ice cream or had an issue with ice cream I would probably skip it. But I like having it now and then with my Protein brownies just to soften them up and for a change of pace because IMO, the fastest way to get off track of boredom with your food.

    Has anyone cheated ?

In my program everything that a spoon can't stand up in is a liquid, so yogurt may not be a cheat at all depending on what the OP has been told. I am surprised that people don't pay more attention, have a list of approved foods on the fridge, and go shopping before the surgery. My surgery is next Monday and you better believe I am going to stock up on everything I am allowed to eat. Even if I don't feel hungry I know I am going to be weak and shaky with such a low amount of calories going in. I know I am going to have to take it slow but you better believe I am going to try anything and everything my team says is okay as soon as they say it's okay.

    Update on OCt sleevers.....

I was sleeved October 3, and so far, I'm doing well. I am on soft foods (my NUT and surgeon let me pass the puree stage). I have had nausea with Protein drinks, so what I do first thing in the morning now is take my Pepcid and the medication that my surgeon gave me that says "take 15 minutes before meals" which reduces nausea. Then I attempt a Protein shake for Breakfast so that I am off to a good start first thing: 30g protein. Some days I just can't stomach it. For meals, I now eat things like rotisserie chicken, sashimi, tuna, greek yogurt, low fat cheese and deli meats. Tonight, I am making the WLS famous "Ricotta Bake" and also making a new recipe "Huli Chicken", a Hawaiian specialty. I substitute sugar free apricot preserves for the brown sugar, so it's really healthy. Occasionally, I get an uncomfortable feeling in my chest and upper stomach after eating. Its usually when I eat too fast. I am now doing cardio (elliptic) 3-4 days a week. I was OK'ed for this on my two week f/u. I love it! I sleep like baby, and wake up refreshed! Better than before surgery. I'm only weighing myself every three days, otherwise I'd go crazy. HW: 239 Weight on day I started two week pre-op diet: Sept 19, 2016: 236 SW: Oct 3, 2016 219 Current: 206
  5. Hi! I'm 2.5 weeks post op from my bypass and 3 days post op from my complication surgery. Today is just one of those days where I haven't wanted to drink any Water and don't have the urge to eat at all! Does anyone else experience these "bad days" I had NO desire to drink a Protein shake tonight so I'm having a yogurt instead? I guess it's better than nothing I really need some motivation to keep going and not let this bring me down! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Food and Drink Suggestions

@@melliecat I was sleeved a week ago and just allowed mushy food today. I have had scrambled eggs with cheese (very scrambled and apple sauce consistency) and refried black beans with melted cheese and a little sour cream. I also bought greek yogurt (low sugar), broccoli soup (Panera) that I'll blend so no chunks, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese (for ricotta bake), and butternut squash. I only ate very small amounts of eggs and beans but they tasted damn good and were tolerated. I bought Centrum Chewable Multi-Vitamin in Berry flavor that weren't bad (hated the smell of the orange ones). I have been drinking Powerade Zero, Iced Tea (Decaf), Hot tea, water, Vitamin Water Zero. I've had a hard time with protein shakes. I just ordered unflavored protein powder to add to food or drinks.

    Has anyone cheated ?

I was allowed lite yogurts an Greek lite as long as no lumps from post op day one. I did fine. Was the best part of the liquid diet...I did add milk to make the Greek go down smoother for the first week. That was not my drs order though, was my choice. Food and Drink Suggestions

I use the patch Vitamins so no pills or chewables. For liquids phase I pinned a ton of Soup recipes and pretty much tried to make my own. I added an unflavored Protein powder to them to up the protein content. I'm now on purees/soft. I like cottage cheese and I've pureed frozen mixed fruit to add to it to sweeten them up. a lot of people do yogurt (I don't like it so i've avoided it). on my plan you can do runny cereals (like cream of wheat) or baby food cereals on full liquids but it didn't appeal to me so i stuck to Soups. i find eggs are good at this stage and Beans. I'm loving hummus right now.

    What soups?

I know it's not a creamy soup, but I've enjoyed miso quite a bit. I keep Edward & Sons brand on hand. Go for the low sodium kind. To make a creamy soup, I've found adding Greek yogurt and Smash (potato flakes if you're not in the UK,) to a good broth make for a satisfying soup. I'm not yet ready for my beloved potato leek or cream of broccoli soups! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Halo Top ice cream

Awesome! If you are looking for bang for your buck, go with Premiere Protein shakes or added protein Greek yogurt. Much better protein content.
  13. On day 10 of 14, and I've felt weak the last couple days. Part of this is probably due to overexerting myself this weekend as I helped my father with logsplitting. Lots of bending up and down and heavy lifting Saturday. (I do notice feeling a bit lightheaded on the diet while getting up quickly.) Anyone else experience similar syndromes? My stools have often been loose the last few days too. My pre-op diet allows lean Proteins and veggies, with limited fruit and nonfat Greek yogurt. Targeting 800-1000 calories daily. On most days I hit at least 100 grams of Protein.

    Halo Top ice cream

@@LipstickLady I'm not looking for it as a treat I was just looking at the nutritional content of it and instead of having the frozen yogurt I bought that I'm not tempted by it at all I'm on my purée phase I'm down 23 lbs and I have self control ,it was just a healthier option for me being that I'm a diabetic that's all Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Has anyone cheated ?

I was allowed Greek yogurt with no fruit. I would suggest Oikos Greek 10 10 10 in drinkable form to start. They have them in several flavors and help with your Protein. Not high in carbs either. Drink slowly. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I was also allowed yogurt as long as it was blended (like no fruit on the bottom or chunks).

  18. So I am 8 days post op and tomorrow I go to get my staples out and I cant wait! I feel like its just one more step getting me back to normal. I started my Vitamins today and ehh they are awful. i ended up grinding it up and putting it in my 2 tbsp of yogurt I had for dinner worked so much better than eating it by itself. I got the Bariatric Choice all in one multi its amazing I have to eat it 4 times a day but thats all i have to take it covers everything.Ive been craving mashed sweet potatoes (like the thanksgiving kind with brown sugar and marshmallows) so bad i may make some tomorrow. Anyhoo just wanted to share..I hope everyone has a wonderful night! Sent from my LGUS991 using the BariatricPal App

    Fluids and protein.

I was sleeved on October 3rd. I was restricted to liquids for 1 week. Beginning 2nd week, I could begin soft foods like yogurt, eggs, fish, soft vegetables. 3rd week my diet opened up quite a bit more and now I am on an unrestricted diet. I have had zero issues with Fluid (I probably get in two to three times what I am required to drink daily). Now back to your original question, I recommend to try Dannon Light & Fit Greek Yogurt (has the least amount of sugar and good Protein content) and mix a scoop of unflavored protein in with it. I really like the All Max brand due to it being one of the most pure Proteins on the market with no "fillers". As suggested by another poster, broth with a scoop of protein works great too...add a couple spoonfuls of unflavored Greek yogurt to give it a cream like texture/taste. My doc said that some people, for whatever reason, have trouble drinking Water and indicated that patients indicate that it "feels to heavy". I haven't experienced this, but he did say that to try alkaline based waters like Smart Water etc to find one that works...I drink a ton of Powerade zero and decaffeinated tea. I would certainly try the Powerade zero and see if that helps with getting liquids in. Hope some of this helps Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Halo Top ice cream

I definitely think if you *know* it's a problem food, to skip it. But there are people who didn't live for ice cream (I am NOT one of them, thankyouverymuch! I'd cut you for Ben and Jerry's New York Super Fudge Chunk) who could eat something like Halo Top and do fine. It's really not much different than a yogurt, which I can eat without going overboard. I dunno, I guess in my newbie brain, I hope to be able to eat most normal things in moderation and have a bite or 2 of the 'better' version of an old favorite, like a little high-Protein Pasta or low-carb tortillas instead of my old flour friends. I may be wrong, of course! I agree 100% on not giving up on all of the wonderful foods out there. My point was that at 2 weeks out it would be very difficult to not start that as a habit that could go bad quickly.
