Day 1 of my preop diet......

Linda, you are going to do this. Actually, scratch that. You ARE doing it! Even though I'm not on liquids before surgery, I have done this diet 3 times before, including for 90 days once (lost 80 lbs). The first 3 days are the hardest and you're two down already. As your body transitions into ketosis, any fatigue, hunger, lack of concentration, etc. will dissipate. No. 1 is to drink water like it is going out of style, staying super hydrated. No 2 is to go to crazy lengths to distract yourself from thinking about food - walk as often and as far as you can, see a movie, binge a few seasons of your fave show, read, get out of the house as much as possible, etc. No 3 is to stock your place with any allowable liquids such as sugar-free fluids, jello, popsicles, and clear low-sodium broth. Make your shakes more interesting by adding a squirt of Mio or a natural extract. Get lots of sleep. And keep the end goal in mind: you are taking compassionate, good care of your body and mind so that you have an optimal surgical outcome and a solid platform from which to spring into the post-surgical diet. In the overall scheme of life, 10 days is a blink of the eye! Hard at the beginning, but you'll persist and the rewards will be worth it. YOU are worth this.
  3. HW 337 SW (6/4/19) 329 CW 256 Lowest weight since having kids 10 years ago. So thankful for making this decision and that my journey has been mostly easy compared to some. I did eat Pasta for maybe the third time since surgery tonight. But that meant a couple bites. One breadstick instead of 3. Meatball first. I’m satisfied and husband and sons who are now eating my share couldn’t be more satisfied. 🤣
  4. i am at 8 mts. post RNY. I went lower than goal at 127 now and am trying to maintain despite knowing I will probably drop another 5 since it is hard to get higher than 1400 calories in now. I feel good where I am at, I have a muscular build and don't want to drop too low since it wouldn't look good on me. I feel like i had a saggy neck the first few months but that seems to either improved or I am used to it. My belly was saggy 15 -20 lbs. ago but now seems tighter. My legs have gotten much smaller and now I noticed wrinkles above my knees 10 lbs. ago but it seems to have stayed the same the past few weeks. My bum is horrendous and looks like a 90 year old and arms too. Ugh, i am hoping as things stabilize maybe it will improve some. I also feel like the first few months my cheeks were sunken in and now despite losing more weight i feel like it has gotten better. It's weird how your body adjusts. Did your weight shift around and settle in different areas? did your loose skin firm up even with loosing more weight?
  5. To all the October Peeps out their awaiting their surgery - you will be fine. Just got back from my veg yesterday. My surgery was 10/1. Feeling marvelous. What made a big difference was having a buddy. Lizzziee and I met on this forum and both had our surgeries the same day, at the same hospital. I think it helped a lot, plus we both had a ton of fun. Maybe it is not possible to find someone at the same place at the same time like we were able to, but buddy up with someone through personal email, messenger, whatever. I not only have someone who shares my experience, I feel I have a good friend for this journey we both will share.
  6. And I am out here in Central Ohio, my smallish- 20,000- city is called Mount Vernon- my family has lived in this area since leaving New England in the Early 1800s? Know family legend was that they traveled down the Erie Canal And down into Northern Ohio, and across my state to this area. Much farther along , 13 months today, trying to make it down the last 5-10 pounds, depending how your scale weighs-- to my goal of 175-- sounds like STILL an amount of weight? Not when YOU started at 365+ like ME and I'm 73, never gonna be Slim and Sleek unless you're hoping for Emaciation , which I am NOT. Blue, almost periwinkle blue TODAY, it gets LONG and tedious at times, but I was BORN to Triumph and I am still not ready to Give Up. So I do ❤ reading each of your Stories, 🙏pray for Each of You, keeps ME from fixiating on Myself!

    October 2019 surgery peeps?

I’m having the Loop Duodenal Switch on 10/22. Starting my pre op diet 10/15. 5 protein shakes a day. 😒. I’m taste testing some Nectar samples now so I’m not burned out on premade shakes before I even get my surgery.
  8. I had surgery on 10/2/19 and received injections in the hospital. I have a 2 week prescription of it now that I’m home. I doesn’t hurt too much to administer. I have a very strong family history. Blood clots can kill you, so I was relieved to have coverage for 2 weeks.

    October 2019 surgery peeps?

@LastChance57You are right..I should call them. I'm taking like 15 pills a day. 7 in morning and 7 in evening and it's been soooo hard. probably the hardest part so far is taking these dang pills. ... I have to wait 5-10 minutes between each pill. I wish I was giving the liquid. I will leave them a message today. It's saturday but maybe they will call me back. maybe I'll send hubby to drug store to at least find regular liquid tylenol. that might help at least. appreciate the tip.

Central Florida here. I'm 48/female - surgery date 10/01/2019 Surgery = Gastric bypass
  13. Found this little space to start posting random thoughts, feelings and experiences to document this journey Surgery Type = Gastric bypass Age = 48 Highest weight = 307 1st date with surgeon 05-09-2019 Weight - 302 June, July, August, Sept - went through pre-op stuff diet and insurance hell Surgery Date 10-01-2019 Weight 284 10-02-2019 - Weight going home was 294 Hospital care impressive, bariatric program impressive. I was sent home with all the knowledge and material I need. Nurse called me on 10/03. I had red tinged phlegm coughing and she said that was normal. Today, 10/05/2019 I'm home and still sore. I don't think I was given enough pain meds so trying to use them sparingly. Lots of vitamins and meds to take it takes me about 30 minutes to take them (morning and evening) due to the stomach making me full. My main goal is to get 60-80 grams of protein and 60 oz of liquid. I've almost made it each day going to try today. I'm still happy I made this decision. Trying to walk at least every hour around the house and will i'm sitting I do ankle twists. I've take some short walks outside with the dogs. Things that are bugging me - I have 6 incisions and 4 are horizontal along my fat roll that 'bends" when I sit making it uncomfortable. Dr. filled out form for me to go back to work on Oct 17 I think i will need longer, will address at first preop meeting on the 16th Lower left abdomen hurts internally, is that where one of the stomas are? I know I'm still pumped with fluids, not weighing myself yet but I must be losing weight. entering everything in my fitness pal...always under 400 calories. Ordered a cheap fitness tracker on e-mail since my fancy one broke. I'm sick of store bought bone broth...will try to get some yummy from a local asian restaurant. ... 10/05 - had my first Bee Em sans miralax This is all more expensive than I thought it would be.

    October 2019 surgery peeps?

Hi Cherylmilla, I had my gastric bypass surgery on 10/2/19 with hiatal hernia repair & gallbladder Removal. It’s nice to meet you! Horrible gas pains (even in my chest and shoulders), per Hospital, and soreness where gallbladder used to be & hernia site. I’ve been taking Tylenol - with codeine for pain and walking around my house a lot. I froze a lot of my protein water (20 gms) at 4 oz a pkg but was only able to get 2 down when I came home from hospital yesterday. I woke up early today to start sipping my 1 oz of water - which has been hard when I fill my new stomach up. Regarding the horrible gas, I saw a post where their doctor approved otc Gasx. Hoping it will be a viable option for me.

    Post op

Same here. On 10/2/19 I had gallbladder removed and hernia repair. I came home and slept but I don’t have a lot of pain either.

    Starting over

Me too. My surgery is scheduled for Oct. 21, 2019. Good luck!
  20. I went to my first Obesity Conference today (10/4/19). I was sponsored and was able to attend at no cost to myself (blessings), I only attended today and opted out of tomorrow. One of the sessions I attended addressed various attachment issues and styles, this correlated to our relationship with food and how we feel about ourselves. We started with a brief exercise to bring you present and a few cleansing breaths. My other favorite part was all of the goodies in my swag bag, I'm ready for surgery now (the free samples saved me some money). I have so many protein samples, vitamin samples and etc. Just a few of the vendors included, Bariatric Advantage, Premier, Unjury, Celebrate, Fusion, Barimelts, LaBrada and etc. I also went to the free clothing exchange store, got a few items for after surgery and one really cute Michael Kors blouse for maybe one or two months post op. I meet some amazing people who have inspired me to keep going and believe that this wls is truly life altering if you allow it to be. My words for the remainder of the year are: inspired, rejuvenated, focused and grateful. I also shared how great my support group is on bariatric pal.

Here I am on October 4, 2019 thinking back over my Lapband journey and how I thought I would be banded for life. Unfortunately, I have been sick for some time, and am on medications; and well my weight has constantly slowly increased. I was 225 pounds when I had my Lapband surgery on Dec. 17, 2010. At least my weight hasn't reached 210. I have been fluctuating between 202-206. For that, I'm grateful. I'm just excited to be able to have another tool to assist me with my weight loss journey. I'm not looking forward to the liquid stage, however.

      SabrinaGoddess

I was unbanded because my band eroded. (2013) I have struggled since having it removed and I went into a huge depression. So now I have decided to do the sleeve. Praying I can get my date in early December (self pay)

  22. Thank you for sharing your honest experience. @chula313 I just had surgery on oct 1 and really relate to you. The cost has been eye opening, I'm so glad I have a bunch of cheap amazon dresses to wear and a bunch of large size panties from walmart. I'm only wearing flip flops right now. My pain has been significant too..but sounds like yours is worse, I'm so sorry. My doctor only gave me 10 pills of trammadol and no refills so I'm using those sparingly. Four of my six inciscions are all along exactly where my fat rolls when I sit down, sooo painful. I am thankful for this board and I know it gets better!!

Day 1 of my preop diet......

Yeah I figured it will be easier as the days go on. Initially it was 14 days but I lost weight and they made it 10 days. After surgery it's only liquids for 2 weeks. Everyone is different as well as every surgeon so preop and postoperative meal plans seem to all be different. Good luck on Tuesday. I go in on the 14th. I can't wait it's been a long 10 months of preparation......

Day 1 of my preop diet......

It's a lot easier now than it was the first few days, but I'm over it. Ready to get this done. Surgery is on Tuesday at noon, and it can't come soon enough. As for how I'm feeling, I'm doing pretty good, just a little tired from the lack of calories. Also peeing constantly. I've lost around 8 pounds over the last 10 days.
