This sounds like what I went through!!! I hear a lot of people say the revision makes you stall on weight loss! Is it true? Did you have to work harder after your revision?? -
Looking for friends, just starting my journey!
neairheart replied to mommaMel302's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! I recently started my journey as well. I actually just had my 2nd appointment last week. Welcome to the bariatric life! I'm sure you and I will have a lot of the same questions! Sent from my SM-S906U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I lost 55 after surgery (238 on 3/21) and then I stalled at 4 months PO. I have not lost one single pound since 6/20. It is frustrating 😩
-
I had experienced a long stall this month (July), for the first time. I had lost 5 lbs in the first week or so of July but then the scale didn't budge for 3 weeks until today. I have been on only liquids since Monday and it seems the stall has passed me. I am down 3 lbs this morning and will continue with the liquid until Friday. When I resume eating, I will not be adding the processed protein (Quest bars, shrewd food puffs), simple refined carbs (pretzels), or any of the junk food (french fries, samosa, etc.) that I had allowed to enter back into my life. Game on.

I wanted to update everyone on my mock trial of the liquid pre-op diet. I had been doing full liquids for a couple of weeks and eating solids on the weekends. I discovered a couple of things. 1) Adding protein to everything you put in your mouth helps with hunger. Water, soups, shakes, smoothies, etc. 2) After not eating solids and then eating solids, I would feel uncomfortable in my stomach, especially if I ate a large portion. I do believe the tummy shrinks a bit. 3) Once I started the clear-fluids-only diet, more weight started coming off faster. I started the clear-only yesterday, and last night was the very first time I was hungry before bed. I actually had to get up at 10 pm to drink another protein shake because I could not get to sleep. 4) Liquid protein is my friend Overall I'm so very glad I did this mock trial because I tried a bunch of different recipes and combinations of things and learned what I liked and what I didn't. Taking the time to do this has calmed my mind so I don't have to worry about going into these next few weeks before surgery. I'm down 10 pounds already in July, and I hit my goal weight I wanted prior to surgery. Now I actually have more time to get lower. So now, I'm going to set it for 10 more pounds before surgery since I'm going into the clear-liquids-only stage.

Day 1 Liquid Diet
Sleeve_Me_Alone replied to MikeC19's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Day 1-3 were the worst for me. By day 4 I found a routine that worked and my body settled in. I had a very strict 2 week liquids only, which was ROUGH, but I survived and was really proud of myself for being compliant. Agree with others - use the calories you're given! Don't skimp. It'll be over before you know it! -
Good luck muffinman! Remember, this is a means to a great end! The next 24 hours will be tough, but it gets better every day after that. I'm 2 weeks out and life is a)out back to normal.

On days where I’m tired of the food my stomach can tolerate, I just bake some squash and okra with some spices and have 1/4 cup as a meal. I’ve tried a lot of protein sources at 12 weeks out that aren’t working well so in order to not die of boredom, I’ve had squash for dinner probably 2 nights in the last month 🤷🏼♀️ dietician approved and all 🥳

Shopping online for a ladder and NOT looking at the maximum weight with dread. They're all 100kg and up! I could carry three very large cats up those things and STILL be cruisin'! I could haul a child up some of them! I'M NOT AFRAID OF YOU ANYMORE WEIGHT-LIMITS! COME AT ME! 💪 -
If it helps it took them almost a month to approve mine. Yeah. They told me two weeks and it took three and a half. I was anxious the entire time and thought they wouldn't approve it for some reason. I also had Medicaid, for reference.

Been fighting for every pound, but.....

Thanks, guys Even though all of us are HELLA sick right now, it feels good to have something to celebrate. 39 pounds and I'm under 300!!! I now have less weight to lose to get to my first goal than I've already lost. That feels REALLY good to say Edited to add: I'm averaging 16.66 pounds per month lost. That's 5.55 pounds per week. Average weight loss is roughly 2-3 pounds per week, and I'm double that! When I break it down like this, it really helps me recognize and celebrate my accomplishments. Especially when it sometimes feels like it's taking soooo loooong. -
I second the safety issue which is the main reason there is a post-op diet. Your stomach doesn't fully heal till 6 to 8 weeks later. It is dangerous to go off post-op plan especially early on. I know someone who slipped early on, in the 3rd or 4th week and she ended up with serious complications.

There are lots of different pre surgery diets. Mine was 2 weeks keto. But generally they’re either two shakes & one meal or three shakes only. With these the first week (or there abouts) seems to be the most difficult. You’re breaking lots of habits, cravings & addictions (caffeine, sugar). Plus if food was a comfort for you this is also ‘taken away’ from you so it can be more challenging because of the emotional/psychological roller coaster. It’s all so very worth it though.

What does your plan recommend? You should be starting to try lots of different foods now. Just chose the more tender cuts & keep things moist with some sort of sauce or gravy & eat slowly & carefully. Your tummy (or tastebuds) will quickly tell you if it’s not for you yet. And if something doesn’t sit well, don’t give up on it. Just leave it for a week or so & try again. From two months I was adding beef, lamb, pork, chicken, fish, … to my menu plan roster for dinner. Mince, lamb cutlets or blackstrap, chicken thighs, steak, pork tenderloin, etc. I was also eating some vegetables: steamed green beans, cabbage & cauliflower florets. (Very little like 2 or 3 beans & a floret😁.) I was also cooking with tomatoes, carrots, mushrooms, celery, onion, spinach leaves, capsicum like in soups, bolognese sauce, omelettes, savoury mince, braises, etc. I ate scrambled eggs or rolled oats for breakfast & fish (not tinned), 1/2 a sausage (butcher’s not supermarket mass produced) or dinner leftovers for lunch. I never had another shake from week 3 purées. Just watch drying meat out to much while cooking so maybe no char grills or bbq for a little while.

I finally hit 50 pounds lost today!!!! It's exactly 3 months since my surgery and I'm down 1 clothing size, 1 ring size, and 50 pounds!!!! It seems like my body likes to do a 2-3 week stall every month and a half or so, so it's been slow going. But it FINALLY happened today. WooHoo!!!!! -

I was on the pill so periods were still regular but they were longer and I had breakthrough bleeding for the first three months. -
Sleeved on 6/6/22 so I'm over 7 weeks out. I tried salad this week. Just under half a cup. 1st try was fine, second try I had a tummy ache. So putting that off for awhile. Sent from my SM-G986U using BariatricPal mobile app

According to the benefits brochure in the bariatric surgery section an "individual with a BMI of 35 or more with one or more comorbidities" is eligible for the procedures listed. What are the specific comorbidities have you been approved with if you had a BMI between 35-40. I have had documented high cholesterol in the last year, but I am not sure it is enough. I am currently at a BMI over 40, but that was only documented at a doc visit in May, I've been over 35 for years though. Additionally, were you required to show "Evidence that attempts at weight loss in the 1-year period prior to surgery have been ineffective". Has anyone used their data from Peloton classes? I did those consistently last year, but not this year... regardless, they didn't move me below a BMI of 35. Hoping all this plus that I am now over BMI 40 is in my favor. Meeting with the doc in the next couple weeks.

Lost 80 lbs pre surgery
JourneyOfRabia replied to Stillnotsure's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I think you should get the surgery done. I was sort of in similar boat few YEARS ago. Basically I finally build the courage to go with the surgery and started my research and started to lose some weight I think it was 40lbs and then though oh if I can lose this much I don’t need surgery. I was wrong. Soon I hit a stall and to move the stall I was told to have some extra carbs and calories and then it was just so hard. I regret not getting the surgery. so few years later I’m back on researching gastric bypass and scheduled my seminars at 2 hospitals. -
Thank you! I was having issues with the band, and that's why the surgeon was suggesting the bypass. I've heard of some sleeve patients that had revisions to the bypass. I think I'm just leery of the whole rerouting. I wish you much success, you only have 4 weeks! Please stay in touch and let me know how you like the bypass as opposed to the sleeve. I have an appointment with my surgeon on September 5th. I'll let you know what he suggests! *September 1st, not 5th.

Welcome!!!! I had the sleeve in 2018 and now getting a revision to a Bypass at the end of August. Personally I wish I got the Bypass in the very beginning. I have severe GERD and a twist mid stomach of my sleeve. I started the revision process March of 2021 and now getting the surgery. It was a long process because they have a program for revision patients called "Back on Track" and it requires 12 weeks of dietitian visits.
