    Successful Band Stories here!

We'll see if I'm a long-term success, I'm only 2.5 months out, but I'm down 65 lbs (according to wacky home scale), from 382 to 317. (Ok, editing after I typed all that... this ended up as more of a NSV list, but I intend for it to show my "successes") I've gone from a VERY tight 32/34 in jeans to a comfortable 26. I was to the point that only some of my 30/32 shirts still fit, and when I went shopping last weekend several of the 22/24 shirts fit just fine. When I see myself in the mirror, I no longer think that I have the profile of a rubber duck. My "floatie" back fat roll (nice visual! I call it that because it goes right where a floatation device would go) pre-op would touch in the back... in other words the roll started on the sides and went all the way around and no matter how tall I tried to stand, the sides always came together at the small of my back. Now when I stand, there's a good 7 - 8 inches of just plain old back! Without pushing my shoulders forward I can see/feel my collarbones. Pre-op no matter how far I pushed my shoulders forward I couldn't find the pesky things. I have two pair of 28 pants that I had to retire in Dec. They had gotten so tight that I was afraid sitting in them would rip the seams out, literally, and the last couple of times I squeezed into them I couldn't close the button, and only half the zipper, b/c it was so uncomfortable. I put those same pants on today, fresh out of the dryer (I would normally never dryer my clothes, they might shrink!), hooked the wasitband with my finger, and pulled it out a good 5" before the material started getting taut. If my hips weren't so darned big still, they'd be falling off. I lost a lot of weight on Atkins 2 years ago and bought a TON of new clothes. Of course, most of that weight came back on pre-banding. I'm now wearing most of those clothes again. Some are still snug, but I know that in the next 20 or so lbs they will fit just fine. Because of the point above, I've been able to take on the "turned back time" mentality. When I lost the weight two years ago, I had turned the clock back about 6 years. Then I pushed it forward about 5.5 years, and now I've turned it back another 2.

NSV's are what keep me motivated!

Looking good! NSV for me..... buckling the airplane seat belt and even pulling it a bit to tighten it up. That was one of the things I used to dread about traveling for work. Especially if I was traveling with coworkers. Asking for an extender and seeing the look on the persons face that sat next to me.

    Best Nsv Ever!!

Sorry very new what is nsv
  5. To make a long story short- All my life I have been very overweight. Thanks to my band, I am smaller than I was at age 15. As a teenager and young adult, all I ever wanted was to be able to wear tall boots. I could never do so because my calves were always too big for them to even think about zipping.I had put off trying on any since losing weight for fear of disappointment. Plus, I don't see any difference in my calves and never measured them before. Well Tuesday I decided to try on some at Shoe Carnival. I tried on several and they all easily zipped!!! I was so surprised & excited. I got 2 pair-one black pair with wedge heel for work/casual and another black pair with a tall heel for "play". Even the tall heel is a nsv because I have never been able to walk in a tall heel before. I even bought 2 sweater dresses to wear them with and plan to get a jean skirt or two since mine are now too big. It's what some might consider small things like this that remind me that I definitely made the right decision getting the band. Happy Holiday's everyone. I will be sporting my tall boots this season.

    3 week stall...I guess

I also found that people would compliment me when I was in a stall...those that know (almost everyone in my life) would say that I am really losing, and I would think "I haven't lost weight in two weeks" and then I'd start losing again. I think your body needs time to "redistribute" or something, so clothes feel better, you look better, but you weigh the same. I try to focus on NSV's (Non-scale victories) during the stalls.

    Any August 31st Sleevers?

Hi! I was sleeved on 8/31, too. I'm feeling good, not much pain but I am just SO exhausted. I'm getting about 50 grams of Protein a day plus all of my fluids. I have no issues drinking - can swallow almost as well as pre surgery. I came home on puréeds but mostly just eat soup and Greek yogurt. I feel hungry 5-6 times a day and eat accordingly but haven't taken more than 2-3 tiny bits of anything. Still defending on Protein drinks for energy. I'm down 15.3 lbs since surgery morning. I tried my long-too-small wedding rings on today and they slid right on!! My first NSV

    NSV's for the Merry Losers

I have a NSV that really made me happy. I went shopping today to an outlet mall close to me. I needed a few new shorts for golf. I have already gone through my saved "smaller sizes" and was really ready to buy something new. Well, for years I have been in the plus sizes, as so many of you can relate. I cautiously picked up a pair of size 16 bermuda shorts and headed to try them on - all the while thinking "I know that salesperson thinks I will never get into them - I should be over in plus sizes." But I was shocked. They fit and were even a bit loose. Thinking I wanted them to fit for a while, I slipped backout onto the floor and picked up a size 14 just to see how snug they were. I could absolutely not believe - they fit! I can lose and they will work for a while. So, today was a red letter day for me. Thanks for the post - so I could toot my own horn. Heaven knows - it's been a long time. Down 59 lbs. and loving it. C.N.

I went and bought me a few blouses. I tried on 22/24 to big! I bought 3 blouses today size 18/20 now thats a victory

    Who's benig banded on 11/20???

Taking some Time... It’s a crisp, sunny Wednesday here, 68° and I am going to take a little personal time while at work and spend a few minutes with all of you. I’ve kept up with all the posts on this thread even though I haven’t written in a week. I hope everyone who hasn’t been writing is doing well. A Month Out I can’t believe that tomorrow (for many of you) and the day after tomorrow (for me) will mark one month since we were banded. This is the biggest change in my life in many years, no doubt about it. So much has changed that I can’t believe it’s only been a month, after years and years of basically hitting my head against the same wall. I truly feel that I have been given a new lease on life. Here are some of my NSVs: I eat much, much less than I did before the operation. I stay full for hours, rather than having a bottomless pit in my stomach. I no longer binge at nights, something I did every night for years. Consequently, I no longer spend my morning hours trying to function and put up a front while recovering from the physical and emotional devastation of the previous night’s binge. I have binged once during the day (more on this later) this month, rather than bingeing at least once every day for years. I no longer obsess about food all the time. My body feels like a whole lot of air has been let out of it. Any kind of movement– walking, bicycling, standing up, sitting down, scratching my back, tying my shoes, and performing various sanitary and hygienic functions – is accomplished much easier than just a month ago. I’m also no longer out of breath all the time and don’t sweat all the time. I no longer obsess about food all the time – in fact, most of the time, I’m oblivious to it. I Don’t Eat Clay I have to add here that I work in the reception center of our guest rooms, where we serve homemade cheesecake, apple pie, and chocolate chip cookies, ice cream, milkshakes, omlettes and grilled cheese sandwiches. I love my job, but it has been a nightmare trying, and consistently failing, to stay clear of all that’s available here. But for the last month, I have succeeded in doing so. The analogy that has come to my mind is that of a potter, who works day in and day out with clay, but never thinks of putting any of it in his mouth. That’s what food is nearly always for me now – just clay, just something that’s part of the work or home environment, nothing worth spending any time thinking about. Paying for the Party My one binge was last Friday; we had a big party at work and I was meticulously abstemious – I really didn’t resent, either. But, when I went home for lunch, I lost it – just kept eating, nothing that I couldn’t swallow but a lot of soft stuff. My wife, who rarely has commented to me about my bingeing, told me the next morning that she was worried that this was just going to be another phase, another failed solution. That really was hard to hear – especially because, of course, it’s my own deepest fear. It doesn’t surprise me that all my “reasons” for not indulging in this behavior again didn’t work – that’s the nature of the beast. But I know that every day of eating with my band will reinforce new behaviors and a new physical reality which will make my binges less and less frequent until I just don’t do it anymore. I know that one thing I could’ve done at the party was to just have a little bit of ice-cream so I wouldn’t feel “deprived”, but there are some foods which have such powerful associations for me, like ice cream, that I just don’t see myself stopping with such a small amount; I’d rather have none. I can’t defend this thinking, but that’ s the way it is for me right now. What’s on the Menu… Anyway, since then, everything’s been great. My meals this month have panned out something like this: I have a glass of buttermilk in the morning, a cup or two of soup in the evening (no cream or milk based soup, no noodles, just veggies) and for lunch (the main meal here) a salad sized plate of steamed vegetables, in between 2-3 oz of chicken, fish or beef and tablespoon sized dollops of salad, and hummus. I don’t drink for an hour before or after meals, and suck on sugar free candies to help get me by. That's all for now - hope to write again soon - lots of love and encouragement and good luck to you all,

    Who's benig banded on 11/20???

Hi Friends, Sorry I've not been around much lately. I've been swammped with Girl Scout Cookie Sales & other Kid Stuff. The Cookies have not YET been delivered, so there's been no temptation from them (but they get here on 2/20 - I AM NOT STORING THEM AT MY HOUSE). I also have my kids trained to hide 'naughty' food and not keep it in the pantry. My goal is to not eat a single GS Cookie until I'm at my 1/2 way goal. Well, I'm down 28 lbs so far (72lbs left to go). I was really getting hungry again and went in for my 4th fill. I'm at 5cc's in the APS 10cc band. Ate some chicken from the top of a salad & I'm full! I hope this lasts a bit longer. But, as my fellow Potter Fan (Bandpal) says: "but we are putting in the work, going for our fills, learning how to eat all over again through trial and error and maybe even seeing some NSV's or a little movement on the scale." And that's what counts. This is going to be a long process and we just need to hang in there & find what works for us. Bandpal - I'm glad you're finding ways to make it work in your personal environment. 37 lbs down is TERRIFIC! You're finally out of that MORBIDLY OBESE catagory. Doesn't it feel great to be on the road to health? I love your quote from Joshua. I think I may just put that quote on the fridge as a reminder! And just think - You are a terrific Seeker, so therefore that Golden Snitch will not elude you for long, my friend! Just keep an eye out for a Bludger, ok? Ovahkummer - Hang in there. Keep that scale hidden for the time being. Just continue to eat well & throw in some walking when you can. I had my first fill 4 weeks after surgery. If you're hungry, get it filled - that's what it's there for! Towens - Wow 7.5cc's! I bet you're getting some terrific restriction. How much have you lost so far? How much are you able to eat at a sitting? Skinny Jill - Sorry about the Superbowl. Well, 18 out of 19 ain't bad! You are doing sooo well on your weight loss! I't terrific your down 35 lbs! I'm so glad you're doing well! Longhorn - OMGosh - You've got only 34 left till goal? Wow - that's inspiring. Well, I'm off to walk on that dreaded treadmill (can't wait for it to get warm enough here in Ohio to walk outside for a change). Love to you all & keep me posted on how you're doing!

    December's Chat

Good Afternoon! I have been baking Cookies all day long, I am getting ready to clean up and put things away. I have to admit that today things went well! Cindy - I agree, I don't want my band too tight. It sounds like you are doing great with this fill! Have fun on a unexpected day off! I wasn't cracking up about the Protein bar riding with you just in case, I was cracking up because of you thinking to take protein! Now be serious, before you were banded what would you have grabbed? Patty - Sorry to hear your day went so bad, hang in there it gets better. You are probably getting a good case of the nerves! Sorry about the job! Eileen - Yes, I am feeling much better, thanks for asking. Right now though a good hot bath would feel real good! Not that I need it ( I have so much sugar on me) but my feet hurt from standing all day! Hmmmm, come to think of it that is a good NSV, last year I would not have stood all day, the chair would have been holding my butt up! When did you say you start your vacation? Jan - Hope you don't catch that cold! Boost up your Vitamin C's! Beanie - Did you get the stuff all in the mail? Is it time for me to cross everything? Zan - Where are you today? Hope you are tied up in cold weather. Last night it took my DH 2 hours to get home from Dallas. Usually it is a 30 minute trip at the longest, needless to say he wanted a beer the minute he walked in the door! Well, going to go take a break before it is time to cook supper. Later!
  15. I have 2 wonderful NSV this week and I wanted to share - I need a couple of pairs of jeans - my old ones are WAY to big so I took them to the consignment shop and was down to 2 pair that fit - OK. I decided to go ahead and shop for a couple of pairs of jeans to fit me on my way to goal. Right now I am wearing mostly 12s and I thought I would try to find a pair of jeans - a fun trendy pair so I tried on these brands: Miss Me, Big Star, MKE, Buckle, Silver etc. I was trying on anything from 33 waist down to 31. I am taller an need 34 length - not always easy to find. I was SUPER happy that I decided to run into JC Penny and spotted a few A.N.A> brand jeans that were cute so off I go to the dressing room with 5 pairs of size 12 to try.........none fit. To ....baggy!??? I ended up buying one pair of size 10's and the best part was they were only $27 - whoot. I really wanted 2 pair so I headed to the Buckle store and must have tried on 20 pair of jeans..... ended up spending WAY WAY to much on a pair of Rock Revival jeans ($168-eek!). But decided this was my gift to myself for losing 52 pounds to date. And they just really made me feel so good when I looked at them. I am going to ask my honey to take a few pictures for my progress file later today and I will post. They are 31 x 34 and I love them....!! Shopping is getting way to fun. I must slow down on that until I make goal! I love my sleeve!

Down 2 Pants Sizes And So Excited!

NSV non scale victory DH? Dear husband, anyway on WW
  21. I just had a rant and I want to counter it with some positivity. I know a lot of ppl were sleeved fairly recently and I've seen a lot of new "stalls" threads pop up. I'm avoiding my scale so I'd like to focus on some NSV's to help boost morale. Previously tight clothes are now comfy. Some pants that didn't fit now fit snugly. Bittersweet: bras fitting better around, but alas, looser in the cup. Saw my dad on Easter and then a week later and he was impressed with the "obvious" weight loss in a week. Hubby says clothes fitting me different and he loves "the girls" even tho they're shrinking.

    Feeling Defeated And Depressed

I'm 4.5ish months out as well (7/3). I've lost 79lbs. It's been small steady amounts with some weeks w 0 loss. I think we are still in a good range. I know it's frustrating to not see that scale move but try to focus more on NSVs like how your clothing feels, your energy levels, coming off RX meds, and your overall mood. Hang in there. We can do this!! Prayers :-)

    Back to Exercising

I started exercising 5 years ago in an attempt to lose weight. I exercised like a mad woman, weight training, tons of cardio and could not lose any weight. That was when I decided to get the band. I found out that I could get off my anti depressants for the first time in over 20 years because when I left the gym, I felt so good. The dr. wanted me to go back on them when I was going through all the stress with my dad these past few months because they are also supposed to help with anxiety but I knew one of the side effects from those things is weight gain. I went back to the gym today for the first time since surgery and I am really glad I did. I miss working out when I don't go. I feel grumpy. I was afraid when I was in Arizona that I was going to lose all the muscles I have built up in my thighs. That was a great NSV when a guy at the gym a few months before my sleeve surgery asked me how I got my legs so toned.

OMG 1 Week Post Op NSV

I had a similar experience. I came home sat on the couch and realized my feet were thin for the first time in years. It had been so long since they had not been swollen I didn't realize how small they are. Congrats on your NSV and here's to many more to come.
