  1. I would say yes, increase the calories. I use Myfitnesspal and when I put in my exercise it ups my calorie intake for the day in the calculation. Give it a try, I bet it kicks the weight loss into gear again,. especially with the exercising. Good luck!

    Sciatica

My situation might be more detailed and spinal related as I have already had two major back surgeries in Feb. 2016 due to sciatica and nerve compression at the L5-S1 level. I under went the second surgery about 48 hours after the first due to my spinal cord collapsing onto the right side causing further damage to the nerves and needing a lamenectomy in the vertebra above and below the original location. All that being said I now have permanent numbness in my right foot and calf. Still experience shooting pains from time to time in the buttocks with no relief. I again have been referred to a new neurologist to see if there are other options. After dealing with my symptoms and pain for nearly 6 years, going to chiropractors, orthopedics, having steroid injections and intradermal injections I still am not 100%. I am hoping with weight loss after being sleeved I may find relief. If you have to seek further treatment make sure you have a neurologist operate, not ortho!
  3. Every program is different. My doctor doesn't want me drinking protein shakes, either before or after surgery. I have to admit that I've been having some to help me get to my pre-surgery goal weight.
  4. My name is Demetra and I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I was banded on July 14, 2010 and have lost 86 lbs so far... I still have another 25 to go according to my doc. Weight loss is at a stand still right now. No weight loss prior to surgery so my starting weight was 273 and am currently at 187 give or take a few pounds day to day. Was wearing a 20/22 to start and am down to about a 10/12... Very happy with my progress. So I would love to hear from others that had surgery around that time!
  5. I'm just venting here. I had VSG on 11/12/12. Did really well the first 6 weeks. Once I went back to work in January, it's like the genie said "Poof! No more weight loss for you!" I have struggled and struggled. I am at my breaking point now. I have even avoided the message boards here for weeks because I get even more depressed reading about everyone's success. Nothing I try seems to work for me anymore. I am exercising like I should. I am eating what I should, and avoiding what I shouldn't be eating. No matter what I do, I can't seem to get beyond that one hash mark on the scale. I have an appointment with the surgeon next week and I really don't want to go to it. I feel like a complete failure when it comes to this surgery. I have lost 42 lbs. so far, but that was all before January. Since then - nothing! Granted, I haven't gained any either, but I still feel like a complete failure. I was religiously logging my food on MFP, but found that if I did that, all I did was make myself feel hungry and deprived so I had to let up on being so obsessive about that. Now, I just don't know what to do. I am about ready to resign myself to the fact that I am just going to be this way the rest of my life.

    I'm Confused?

Its not unusual to not lose weight after surgery everything slows down including your metabolism, u tend to retain some fluids from the iv and ofc bloating. I have had IBS for a long time and i know when i am bloated i lose no weight at all .. to be honest it drives me nuts.
  8. Hi, I'm not an advanced member but why are you going back to eat again after 1 hour? Try drinking water or taking a walk...the surgery is only a tool and we have to do our part...we are all here because we have a problem with FOOD either overeating/binge eating, stress eating, emotional eating or whatever the case may be. Of course eventually if you keep overeating and then throwing up and going back for more food you will indeed ruin your tool...I suggest getting help from a therapist because it seems like you are slipping back into bad habits...We HAVE to learn to "Eat to live and not Live to eat" We all want you to succeed but you have to do your part like you did in the beginning. You lost weight before so you can do it again. Get some help and take care of yourself. I wish you all the best and we are here for you. ((Hugs))
  9. Jayne Welcome. This is a fabulous support a d information site. We can do this together. I was banded march 9th and am down 15lbs since surger 25 from preop diet. I need to start working out to help my weight loss. But as long as I keep losing I'm happy. D Sent from my iPhone using LapBandTalk

    Excess skin?

My weight is distributed evenly as well, although I do have one really bad problem area - my arms! I don't think there is anything I can do. I exercise like a mad woman and they are getting better. I did buy some wraps for my arms and stomach and I can tell a difference after a few days. I try to sleep in the stomach wrap and put the arm wraps on daily. Oh well, I'll do my best but another surgery is not in the cards for me

    Medical issue

A colleague of mine had gastric sleeve in February because she had bad knees and could not have knee replacements until she lost the weight. She could barely walk at the time. I don't think they will deny you; you can stil do upper body exercise and some physical activity like walking with proper care for your you knee (brace, walker, crutches, etc).
  13. Omg the day is almost here... I'm shedding bricks!!! So excited and nervous all at the same time. I dont have a pre-op diet, but I guess its because I'm considered a "Light weight"... I weighed myself this morning on an empty stomach.. 215.5 lbs. I'm getting banded by Dr. David Davtyan in Glendale... any feedback would be nice and very appreciated Have any of you had him? Any body else getting banded on the 26th?? :smile2:
  14. I recently received a cookbook with recipes geared towards people who have had weight loss surgery. A lot of the recipes call for unflavored or vanilla flavored protien powder. I have only been drinking one kind of protien drink that is premade because I know they are good and haven't ventured past that. But it's time for a change because they are becoming BORING and I'm in the process of getting motivated again and don't want to start out bored already. Would like some ideas of other ones that are also good that I could use in cooking or making my own smoothies so I have more variety than just chocolate! thanks!

    Pre-Op Diet Tips?

I am on my 5th month of my physician supervised weight loss program that the insurance requires and have one more month to go. I have also started losing weight before the surgery and I am now down 25 lbs since April. I found myself eating a lot of cucumbers and onions in vinegar and water. It's crunchy and salty and has very few calories. I also eat a lot of watermelon and strawberries. I just need to get better at vegetables. Anyway I am so nervous and so excited at the same time. I just hope I am making the right decision. I am just tired of not being able to move and enjoy life. I just need some encouragement to keep moving forward
  16. Hi all! I am currently in the process of losing the 15 lbs my insurance plan requires before my surgery is scheduled. Since I am working to lose the weight anyway, I figured why not start making the lifestyle changes that I'll be making post-surgery? So I've been working on things like eating a more protein-forward diet, not drinking with or for 25 minutes after meals, etc. I thought maybe all of us in the same situation could share some things that are working for us here! I'll start! Meals aren't really such a problem for me personally, it's more the Snacks that I find to be a challenge. Here's a few high(er) Protein snacks that I enjoy: Lowfat or Fat-free cheese Stick Fat-free cottage cheese mixed with a few cut-up olives Fat-free plain Greek yogurt mixed with PB2 and Splenda (this has a TON of protein and tastes like Peanut Butter pie!) A couple of slices of uncured turkey lunch meat 2 Wasa crispbreads with lite laughing cow cheese, sliced tomatoes, and herbs (Ok, this one isn't so high-protein, but it's soooo yummy!) Hardboiled egg with mustard (I call it poor man's deviled eggs!) What is everyone else doing to adjust to our new life?

    Love my band :)

Hm. Well I'm not here to defend my decision to you (unless you want to know because you care, not because you want to convince me I'm making a mistake and want to convert me), and more importantly, this topic is about the information you posted. So I'd rather focus on that, if you don't mind. What irked me about the post is that the whole tone is very misleading. If you are here to offer your experience and insight and possibly help others, then great. But you just posted a study summary that, after reading it, didn't pass my sniff test. I assume you downloaded (paid for) this entire study and didn't post just some vague conclusion about the lap band being inferior to the sleeve to explain why you made the choice to switch after a poor band experience. (which, by the way, is not everyone else's experience) I approach scientific data with healthy skepticism, and I'm happy to keep an open mind. So here are my questions on the abstract and results: What is gastrointestinal quality of life? What does it mean - how is it measured in this study? Are we talking good and bad bacteria, number of bowel movements, rate of intestinal distress? What is food tolerance? What does it mean - are we talking what variety of foods are able to be eaten? Quantity of food? This is most interesting to me because the band's primary purpose is to keep food tolerance low. I'm not sure why, otherwise, it would be part of a study. That's like measuring the light and heat from the sun and declaring that it's hotter and brighter than a lamp. lol. How significant is "significantly lower" did the AGB score? What do the numbers mean? Does it mean that because of these parameters, AGB patients had less long term weight loss? Lower quality of life? Less complications, less revision rates? Worse overall health? These things would get my attention, and cause me to look into my options again. Don't get me wrong, MsMaui, I wouldn't wish complications on anyone, I don't want the whole world to be banded. It's for specific people. And sometimes even good band candidates have a crappy surgical experience, like perhaps yourself. And maybe me, but I'm not convinced yet. As for me...My band has failed, yes, but for logical reasons. There is no reason to think it won't work again once replaced with a newer model and the port located to a less stressful place. Also, I am opposed to permanent surgical alteration, and will do everything in my power to avoid it. The band is still good in my eyes, especially seeing the results personally.
  18. Well after being sleeved in November I had managed to keep things trucking a long really well. No typical 3 week stall, good strong weight loss, etc. Well it's now been 2 weeks since the scale moved. I really can't complain as I am down a lot (over 100lbs) which isn't bad for 4 months out. But I've still got 24lbs to goal and I wanted to get there by my birthday in late May. I know it's still achievable but I really had hoped not to deal with the stalls. Strangely even though I'm 4 months out my sleeve is still pretty tight, I don't think I'm clearing 4 oz per meal, well I know I'm not. Diet is about the same it was 6 or 8 weeks ago when I was still losing pretty rapidly. Honestly I went into this figuring if I even lost 60lbs I would be happy, and I'm well past that. I feel good and look pretty good where I am now, but after cruising along thinking I'm almost to goal it's mildly frustrating.
  19. I am so very annoyed right now. My first visit with my surgeon last month. I gave him records from WW, proving that I had tried to lose weight for 6 months. He had told me that this was acceptable for bypassing the 6 month monitored weight loss. So I had huge plans to have surgery in September after I got all my tests done. I have been rushing to have all these tests, have an appointment basically on all my days off except for this coming Tuesday, which now my boss talked me into working. Only to get a call today, saying those records are not acceptable and I have to do the 6 month monitored weight loss. I am so pissed off. I have had 2 sessions already, so that is only 4 months left, but that still pushes me into November to have the surgery, or by the time my insurance approves it, December. This completely ruins everything I had planned.
  20. OK SO, i HAVE BEEN EXERCISING AT LEAST TWICE A WEEK FOR A WEEK NOW AND JUST STARTED ON FOOD. I HAVE GAINED A FLIPPIN POUND !!!!!-SINCE TUESDAY AT MY POST-OP APPOINTMENT.... I AM SO FRUSTRATED AND ANGRY. WAS THIS ALL IN VAIN ??????
