  1. I feel this! I went out last week on Friday to the bars and walked 4 miles and went dancing. My friend who is a bit heavier was complaining of being sore the next day and I didn't feel any soreness when in the past, my legs and knees would've been in pain. Def an NSV for me. I cheated on my Pre op

You are a whole 7 days from surgery, you will be fine, just don't go outside your guidelines again. Stick to your pre op diet like glue. Its torture, we all know it because we have done it and succeeded in shrinking our livers so the surgery was safe to go ahead. About 3 weeks ago somebody posted that the surgeon began the surgery and stopped because the patient had a huge liver. They were devastated. You can do this

What are your go to meals?

When I'm on the road, I eat the Starbucks cheese and fruit box (minus the crackers) for lunch a lot. I get a lot of chili, salads, fish, and chile rellenos. I am on the road about 6 days a week on average. If I'm home, I cook stews with chicken thighs or meals with ground turkey.
  4. We've had really extreme heat in many of the cities I've been working and vacationing in in the last month, and I've been a lot less bothered by it than before I lost 120 lbs. I can feel that it's too hot, but I don't feel cranky and miserable, and I am even able to walk outside early in the morning for a few miles. On the other hand, this week I'm in San Francisco where it's 61 and indoors I'm wear long underwear, tops and bottoms, under pants and a long sleeve shirt and a fleece... and my legs are under a blanket at my desk! So, some good some bad...

    August surgery buddies!

I just had my surgery on 7/25, currently 3 days out. I’m reading comments about the 2 week diet and it really wasn’t bad. I used to drink way too much Diet Coke everyday and stopped cold turkey for the diet. The protein shakes, protein bars, and small dinner were enough to keep me satisfied (for the most part). Each day I’ve been home has gotten much better. 3 days out and I’m not as sore and have been finally able to drink an entire protein shake. I haven’t had any appetite at all. If your feeling nervous that is understandable. I thought of cancelling mine too but then realized I’d come to far to back out.

    August surgery buddies!

One week until go-time. Having my gastric sleeve surgery on 8/4. One week into my pre-op diet. Hasn’t been as rough as I thought it would be. More mental hunger than physical hunger(thankfully the protein shakes are doing a decent job of keeping my hunger at bay). Energy levels are certainly not where they usually are. But it’s all for a good cause. I appreciate hearing everyone’s stories of how they are navigating this adventure we are all on. It’s reassuring to hear that the struggle is real, and not just in my head, and that a lot of people are finding success on the “other side”. Good luck to one and all!

    July 2022 peeps!

Hi July friends! Well, I’m two weeks and a day out from surgery today. Everything is fantastic so far. Just some very mild ache in the healing incision area when I first get up in the morning. I don’t know how much weight I’ve lost but my clothes are far more comfortable. I’ll weigh myself next week because they’ll ask at my next appointment but I’m trying to focus on being healthy and strong which works best for my personal mental health. Every food I have tried so far I have tolerated just fine. I just progressed to “mechanical” food which sounds very space-age but really is just anything you don’t have to cut with a knife. I’m going to try some fish this weekend. Chicken was just fine (I chewed it well) and cooked vegetables. Also scrambled egg and egg salad and egg foo yong made with minced chicken. A lot of eggs. For now I am not being very adventurous as I’m finishing off all the food I cooked and prepped for the soft stage. I am still drinking one shake a day to get to 80-90g protein. I can’t do it without the shake or I’d be eating all day. Hope you are all having a wonderful day and sending good healing thoughts to the folks who had/are having surgery this week. Cay
  8. I am making three months out but the protein I used to drink at first was the premier protein chocolate cause that’s the only one I liked but after a while I would throw it up. So I changed it to an organic chocolate protein which was way better. It didn’t have a diet taste to it like the premier protein did. 100% would recommend.

I can't speak on revisions but when I was deciding on sleeve over bypass everything I read told me bypass was more effective and my doctor confirmed it. As far as warning signs there aren't any, you will start to feel full and a "heaviness" and very uncomfortable. If you eat too much too fast you may regurgitate/ throw up. Your pouch will only take what it can take. In the 7 weeks since my bypass surgery I've thrown up 2x and each time I wasn't paying attention and either took too big of a bite or ate too much too fast. I also went from GERD every other night pre-op to none post-op. I'm off my Diabetes meds and IBS meds. I haven't had a single regret.

    July 2022 peeps!

Hi Brennan! I had the same feeling. I'm a little over two weeks out now and it seemed to have resolved itself. I know, it's a weird feeling.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

125 down is just amazing! I do get the occasional day of bad eating - not too many - but I try to get back on the horse the next day with protein first, which has worked so far. Vacations are difficult - eating goes all topsy-turvy. Good luck with the 10lbs this month - that was almost my maximum rate of loss right after surgery!! It's about a pound a week now but I'm happy with that. How much more would you like to lose in total @ForMyOhana?

    Best Protein Shake,?

Not quite what you asked but, by far my favorite has been collagen/Bone broth powder, 20g protein for 20g powder 90 calories, and unlike whey protein, it doesn't curdle at high temps. Has a very mild "dusty" flavor which you can't taste at all, I put it in everything, coffee, soups (broth, tomato, chicken), recipes with sauce like pulled pork, cooked fruit, apple sauce, mashed potato, jelly(jello), spagettios, beans. You name it I add it. 3 weeks out I was having it added to mashed potato, strained chicken noodle and broth a lot (plans vary). Protein shake-wise, not sure if you have it in the US but I like Ufit shakes a lot, especially the Fudge Brownie. Grenade is more calorie-dense but there very good. No premier protein in the UK always jealous as it's the most youtube recommended.
  13. Hi, I'm about to begin week 3 post op and need to start protein drinks. Any recommendations? I like pretty much any flavour it's more taste/texture/grams of protein I'm in need of advice . TIA [emoji4] Sent from my SM-G990E using BariatricPal mobile app
  14. Hey there, 3 months post op and really struggling with permanent cramps & burping. This seems to happen every time I have my period, however, my PMS pre surgery was never this bad. I now cramp permanently (24/7) for up to 2.5 weeks (even though my period itself only lasts 3-5 days), i’m bloated and I permanently need to burp as the gas is just extreme. Basically I feel like how I did in my first week after surgery with the gas, walking and burping. I’m in severe pain and every night I have spasm attacks so my sleep is really bad. Has anyone else been through this? if so: 1) How did you manage this? 2) How long did it last? 3) why has it happened? I have already had all my blood tests done, had an ultrasound, been to see my surgeon twice and there is nothing actually wrong with me, he’s referred me to a gynaecologist (because hormones is definitely impacting this and I have high insulin resistance which hasn’t reduced) and gastroenterologist to rule out any colon inflammation or infections. But at this stage he thinks it’s severe IBS with hormone changes. The thing is – I’M IN TOO MUCH PAIN 24/7.

    Anyone stopped losing?

It’s likely not a stall because you’ve been plateaued for so long. Stalls usually last 1-3 weeks You may have reached your body’s set point. The weight at which your body is happiest &/or your consuming the calories your body needs to function at this weight. I ate 1300 calories & maintained at 49kg for a good year. I eat 1400 calories now (because of additional protein) & maintain at 51kg. Like @catwoman7 said you could lose more if you reduced your calories (& upped your activity) but is a lower intake sustainable? Only you know that. And remember not everyone reaches a healthy BMI. (BMI should be used as a guide not a rule anyway.) it’s got to be a weight that healthy for you & your life. But, have a chat with your dietician & see what advice they can offer.
  17. Hi December surgery friends!! Just wanted to check on everyone and see how things have been going... As for me, I was sleeved on December 22 and have lost a total of 130 lbs. I am down to 185lbs and am working hard on meeting the "estimated goal" of 180 the doctor mentioned at my original consultation. The weight loss has slowed significantly (down to 1-2 lbs a week) but I've been able to incorporate exercising a few times a week when my schedule permits. Similar to @huskymama above, I got a running itch last week and decided to go on a 3 mile jog. Surprising to me, even after not running for years, I was able to do it. As for eating, I'm still not consuming bread, rice, pastas, or potatoes but have had the occasional potato chip here and there. Also, I'm happy to report I still have my love of pickles and popcorn so no taste bud changes there. I'm keeping my portions at 3-4 oz depending on the food type but have definitely learned to listen to my stomach when i'm full and walk away from the table. I truly hope everyone is doing well and making positive progress, regardless of what a scale says.

    Gallbladder

I just had my gall bladder removed at 3 months post sleeve. I lost 4lbs the week after surgery but I've been in a stall for 2 weeks now with my weight going up a bit. I have not stalled at all prior to this. The fatigue post-op was the worst but I think it's because I had 2 surgeries back to back. I am glad to have it out. The gall bladder pain was excruciating! Plus the nausea and bloating!

    August surgery buddies!

This is totally understandable. I couldn't do this diet if I had to do physical work. I'm struggling to do basic domestic stuff. I'm on day three and they say it gets easier from here. I sure hope so!

    3 Years Post Op

I did manage to lose 7lbs the first week and I didnt do anything drastic. For me the key to it all is sustainability. I am contemplating going back on the unjury protein shakes to atleast have on hand. I really liked them and they were effective meal replacements.

    June 2022 surgery buddies

I had RNY on 6/8 with type IV hernia repair and gall bladder removal. I was 223 the day of surgery. I’m thrilled to be at 183 today. I’m started to feel less tired and lethargic just this past week although, the first 2 weeks post op I was full of energy. I started my Vitamins, I’m doing the Water thing just fine, and I’m getting my protein using https://protgold.com/ I used it a few years ago after surgery and it is a miracle worker for me. I have absolutely learned that I do not metabolize artificial sweeteners. When I eliminated them, my stall ended. I also stopped the Premier shakes and began using the pro-t to meet my Protein requirements. I mix it in my water and I’m killing two birds with one stone. I’ve been craving cucumbers and I am enjoying them with hummus. No salad yet for me. I still don’t have any appetite, but my head craves  things…that just takes discipline on my part. I love Soup and the Bariatric Advantage chicken Soup is something I really enjoy.

    Mini-cheat 5 days post op

Really glad you didn't come to any harm and I totally understand that craving - I've had so many different cravings at different stages! Could you try some clear stock or bouillon when the others around you are eating proper food? Or just take yourself away from the dining room for a few weeks? It's such a short time and it's so important for your long term health, as the others have said. Otherwise - forgive yourself, you are human as we all are. We're all here to support you - all the very best on your journey - you'll be telling us about your 100lb loss in no time I'm sure

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Hi guys - we've done 8 months now, how are you all doing? I like this thread because I can look back and see my journey - never did a thread all to myself. All good here - I'm 8 months and a week post op, current weight 173 and total loss 103lbs. BMI 25.5. In the last month I have averaged a loss of 1.25lbs a week, which I'm thrilled with. Ideally I would love to lose another stone but that's in the lap of the gods. Either way I'm extremely happy to have had this procedure. Eating a bit more (volume-wise) in the last few weeks as my hunger has properly returned now - it never really left, but I had a few weeks of what I called full-hunger, when I had eaten what would have filled me up before but it just didn't any more, even if I waited 40 minutes or so, so I've been upping the portion sizes - just a little - and I'm feeling properly full again. I suspect this is going to be a pattern until I reach my new weight. I'm eating more or less all foods now - still protein first veg second most of the time but I have had occasional bread, no pasta no rice but a small slice or two of pizza etc. and it's all sitting well with me. Trying to average 1200 calories a day still but at weekends I go over that and I'm not beating myself up about it. Would love to hear from you all - or at least the people who are still visiting this board 8 months on. Hope you're having the time of your lives - I certainly am.

    Anyone stopped losing?

I have been in the same weight of 175 for 2 weeks, this is the first time since surgery, maybe not long enough to complain but the issue is that I traveled last week and I put 12K to 15K steps per day in the last 9 days. I was expecting to came home and see at least one # down, instead this morning I am 176. My restriction still works I can't eat too much at a time, but now I can feel real hunger, and it is hard to control how many times I eat during the day, I am worried because I am still far from my goal.
