Do you need to lose those pounds you've gained?
LilMissDiva Irene replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well now that the weekend is over I guess it’s time to get back to business as usual! I was a bad girl this weekend. Well, for the most part… I would be good all the way up until lunch hour and then I would backslide. My scale showed it too. I ended up gaining a whole pound in that time. But… thank goodness it wasn’t more! It could always be worse is what I try to tell myself. How do I know? Well I gained almost 200 Lbs in a matter of 5 years (maybe less), that’s how! I know I was on a tear – a good one – or however you want to phrase it. I know one thing is for sure though, I WILL NEVER AGAIN allow myself to get like that. This time was different… I caught it and now I’m trying with all of my might to take a hold on those reigns and bring it back in. I don’t think I’m doing too badly, and I will definitely not let any of my setbacks end this journey for me. The journey only ends when I reach Kingdom Come! So, today I have been a very VERY good girl. J Yay me! I’m drinking all my water; I’m setting my food rations for the day and I’m sticking to it! I got my walk in already even. Whoop! I feel really good! The reason I went out so early was it’s getting so warm here in California already. I love it though, truly! I’m a Cali Girl through and through. It is also that time for me. I can feel the cravings rearing it’s ugly head. It’s no wonder I had such a terrible weekend with my eating. I do want to say this though, and it’s a major NSV… I DIDN’T CAVE IN TO THE chips CRAVINGS!! Oh and I wanted so soooo bad! You have no idea, really. In fact, we were all driving to San Francisco to see a Giants Baseball game, and someone in the car had a big bag of Lay’s Potato Chips. Hey, don’t get me wrong, I’ll eat those up too given the chance. My brain was all fired up, wanting some of those little devil creations! I could smell em too… oh my… OH MYYYYYY!!! But, I didn’t do it. I closed the bag up and threw em in the back seat. I succeeded! Normally I just eat them and don’t even think about it – but not this time! I did great as far as I’m concerned. Especially knowing that this is TOM, where usually I’m tearing em up! Well, I won’t give up and I won’t give in. So that makes today, DAY 16!! Yeah! Over two weeks and counting!!!! Right now I’m drinking my Slim Fast shake and I’ll have some jerky after. I drink my shake first so my belly gets full, then I eat the jerky so it will prevent hunger later. Here is something I’ve noticed too however and maybe I’m onto something? With those little Slim Shots it seems my entire appetite is different even. The reason I say this is, I didn’t have any on Saturday or Sunday, yet my appetite was crazy. I’m really talking about that head hunger here. But, today I took one again right before my Cereal, and the head hunger seems to be quiet today. It’s a bit strange, but I think (for me) it’s helping with the head hunger too. I haven’t felt any REAL hunger at all yet today, except for right before my cereal. Well, I guess that’s it for today. I’ll see what the rest of the day holds – and I hope it’s good! -
I went walking this weekend and when I saw my shadow it was such a marked difference from before surgery. I was amazed at the smaller size of me! I didn't expect that NSV and it was such a sweet victory. New blessings every day.

Congratulations on the NSV. Lovely picture, lol.

Hi Maria and Myband NSV stands for Non scale Victory - anything not to do with your scales eg bending over easier...clothes too big etc etc

Okay, much past due for an update, but I've been busy! Alright, well, in the last 2 weeks of November I was moving to a new place. There are a decent amount of NSV's associated with this. My old place was a one bedroom apartment on the 2nd floor. I did tons of moving and packing and running up and down those stairs, and hauling stuff onto trucks. My muscles were generally sore afterwards but my lungs didn't hurt because I wasn't huffing and puffing! I now have a 2 bedroom place with stairs in it, and i'm up and down those stairs all the time. And more often than not, I'm running up and down the stairs, not walking. Walking up and down stairs takes to long, you know? When I first started this thread I had an NSV that my class ring fits. Well, now I need to get it resized. It still 'fits' but when I wear it it never stays straight and I'm afraid it will fall off. Fortunately my engagement ring was snug when I got it, so it still fits nicely. I haven't lost weight in a while, and even gained a few lbs (but fortunately I finally got that gained few lbs off), but I swear the other day when I put my jeans on they fit different than normal and they were right out of the dryer. Usually I have to squeeze into them (not lay down on the bet to zip, but still squeeze), and I didn't the other day. It might be the gained few that caused the squeezing, but I'll list it anyway. I LOST WEIGHT OVER THE HOLIDAYS. Granted, it's weight I'd lost, then gained (5lbs), but still. That's more of an SV, but the NSV comes in the form of all the snacking I DIDN'T do. Mom made 2 batches of fudge, a half batch of truffles (just for me), a batch of sugar cookies, a batch of gingerbread cookies, and I made 2 pumkin pies. In the course of 2 weeks, I maybe had 5 cookies, and 2 pieces of pie. I did eat most of the truffles over time, and a few pieces of fudge, but that was over the course of 2 weeks! I remember before coming in, grabbing a couple of cookies, grabbing a couple more a little later, and a little later after that, etc etc.

Thanks Neenagh, My first NSV was that I came off of one of my hypertensive medications and that was only 20 lbs!!! I'm hoping that I will be able to come off of the other. My second was that I was able to fit in a pair of jeans that I couldn't before the surgery

Slowest looser ever
TheCurvyJones replied to tabithacool66's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
4lbs a week is 2-3 lbs above the recommended amount a person should lose a week. 4lbs a week isn't slow. I know it seems like a lot of people drop SERIOUS weight in the first few weeks but not all of us do. You CANNOT make your body do what it isn't going to do so, in order to NOT go insane, keep your eyes on your own paper. Look at your own history, your own journey, your own success. You're down 13lbs from your surgery date and that's fantastic. I NEVER more than 2 or 3 lbs a week after my first week post op. NEV. ER. But now I am down 102lbs. You will keep losing! You are right on track. Keep your thoughts positive, follow the rules, do the work. your sleeve is WORKING. Also keep in mind you may be dropping inches, and probably from places you don't even realize like ankles, wrists, knees. One of the first things I noticed, 4 days post op is that it no longer hurt like hell to climb the stairs. Start counting your NSV's and relax. It's working. -

Hating Myself & Afraid Less than 6 Weeks Out...Long Post...Needing Support
deedeemuffin replied to deedeemuffin's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I too find myself comparing myself to others on the boards especially. I also have been in the 380's probably at least ten times over the past 3 years. It would usually take me 2 months instead if the 2 weeks it took this time. I think I have a fear that my body won't let me go below 380. I think that when I get into the 370's it will be more real that this is really working. I will definitely keep my psych & nut appts. I have had victories. I am losing weight differently this time. The ONE pair of jeans that I own are now too big at the waist. Maybe I need to start writing down my NSV so I can look at them when I am feeling down. -
I can cross my legs like a lady! No more ankle to knee lumberjack crossing here! Knee to knee dainty crossed legs. Btw, that means my thighs are small enough now to fit together! Silly NSV but made me feel good. : )

That is AWESOME!! It's the little things, isn't it?? All the NSVs are what keep us going =) Keep up the good work and enjoy your new sitting position.

February Sleevers.... Check in!
HumanMerelyBeing replied to Lulah's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello February Friends, I was sleeved on 2/4/14. I'm also on soft foods and tolerating everything pretty well. I'm just a bit bored with no variety and trying to think of things to eat is tough. I do get hungry, but am satisfied pretty easily. I usually take in about 600 calories, very occassionally go up to 850 or so. Tuna, lunch meat, lite cheese sticks, scrambled eggs, turkey kielbasa, Soup, Protein shakes...that's about it. For a special treat, if I'm hungry at night I'll have 1-2 graham cracker sheets. Not sure if this is cheating or not. Otherwise, I don't have any carbs really. I've been walking, stationary bike and even tried 20 minutes of the Jillian Michaels Fat Burn workout - whoa!! NSVs - had to dig out some old clothes (luckily I have clothes in every size, so it will be a while before I have to shop!). My rings are fitting better. My face looks thinner. Exercise is getting easier! I had a long 2 week stall and like the other poster in this thread couldn't understand how that math works: taking in so few calories, exercising, working full time, taking care of 2 kids and not losing for more than 14 days. Sigh. But it's over and I'm back to losing 2-3 lbs a week or so. HW 283 Pre-op Diet 270 DOS 255 Current 237 -
Weight loss stall so early into the game...feeling let down
gowalking replied to Wendydarling19's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wendy, Wendy, Wendy...have you not read posts about just this very thing? Of course you lost alot of weight on liquids. But you can't be afraid of food. And you can't obsess over the scale. I mean it....put it away. Just focus on eating well, portion control, and exercise. That's all it is. The weight will come off...give it some time. If I've said it once, I've said it a million times...you didn't gain it overnight, and you won't lose it that way either. Stop putting so much pressure on yourself. Follow your doctor's instructions, and don't look at that scale again for at least a month. Oh, and look for the NSVs...you'll find plenty, I guarantee it. Good luck! -
This week I realized I had 2 NSV. The first one is my 8yr old can hug me (at my thickest belly part) and reach his arms all away around me. No more half hugs here! I almost cried when I realized he can now fully hug me, not just part of me. My 2nd victory is being able to have a regular shower towel wrap around me and cover all my bits. No more need to use a beach towel! I might be at a stall right now, but these NSVs are encouraging me! Sent from my VS995 using BariatricPal mobile app

Nsv... I Went From 5:45 Am To 5 Pm Without Using My Wheelchair...
Lissa replied to tjmom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
An occasional day of rest is required to let our bodies heal when we work out... and you're doing an amazing workout every day that you go without the chair! Don't take the rest days as setback. Instead use them as days to allow your muscles to heal and grow stronger. When we lift weights, we're supposed to give our bodies a day of rest in between. You ARE doing the same with forcing your legs to work... I'm totally thrilled for you and proud of you! You're determined to reach your goal and I have faith that you will reach that goal. I've figured out how you could do a ticker, too. You could either track "days out of the chair", using a 6 or 8 hour "day" and log each one as you complete it. OR you could track how many miles/feet you've walked and pick a destination. I believe Lil Miss (Stronger) Diva did that with her workouts. As she racked up miles she listed how much closer to a specific town she'd come. Maybe you should do something like football fields or the local mall that have specific distances. Even if you don't do a ticker, it's still a HUGE NSV. If you do, maybe it will be motivational for you on days you don't want to walk. You're doing great! Keep up the good work!! -

Nsv... I Went From 5:45 Am To 5 Pm Without Using My Wheelchair...
tjmom replied to tjmom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This weekend is going to be mind blowing for me. I asked my husband to take the motorized chair out of the house... I have found if I see it, I want to give in and use it. I don't need it. So bye bye chair!!! Another NSV : I pulled weeds for the first time in 15 - 20 years... I took my walker for stability walking on rocked driveway... So, put brakes on walker - stood up - walked to flower bed - pulled weeds - stood up - walked back to walker - sat down on walker - rested - drank some water I brought with me - moved walker - *** repeated for 3.5 hours *** Man that felt great! (I left the weeds on driveway and my husband picked them up and carted them away..) -

Congrats! Great NSV! -
Ling, Tere & Thin- Congrats!! Thanks so much for sharing your NSVs. I'm so happy for all of us! My NSV is that I can see the weight loss in my face. My clothes are looser but unfortunately they were really tight to begin with. I don't expect to change sizes for another 20lbs or more. But that is ok because I don't have money to spend on clothes. Though I am looking forward to shopping in my own closet in my "skinny clothes" section.
