  1. I am still surprised at how eating less food than I have ever in my life has made me appreciate the tastes of food so accutely. My husband made me one of the best meals I ever eaten tonight - it was amazing. Simple - a perfectly prepared omelet and some absolutely ripe sliced garden (REAL) tomatoes. The food tastes exploded in my mouth like I was eating pop-rocks. I just closed my eyes and enjoyed the experience of eating. I used to eat until I was numb and the food didn't even taste good at the point I would stop - I was full to the point was miserable and about to gag. The sleeve surgery has given me back the gift of enjoying food. I don't care if I ever eat a white carb again if I can keep this appreciation of a well prepared meal.
  2. Awesome thread! I had a lot of similar goals and have reached most of them through the summer. Best ones so far: Having tons more energy to play with my kids - I've been to fairs and waterparks and actually played with the kids on all the rides, slides etc. Having lots of room in an airplane seat - flew in July when I hit my hundred pound mark and it was MARVELOUS! Shopping in regular stores - goodbye plus size stores forever! While it's still a wee bit uncomfortable to cross my legs in a straightback chair, I cross my legs all the time on sofas and other types of seating. This thread is fabulous. It made me appreciate the nsv's I have achieved and look forward to more. Good luck to all of you who are at the beginning of the journey, you have great goals!

    May 2011 Bandsters Report In

Hi May bandsters. today is my 5 month surgiversary, so i thought i would check in. I have lost 70 pounds and I have had zero fills. I will see my doctor next month and then if everything is ok, i won't see him for another 6 months after that (unless i need a fill). so far, I feel amazing, i reached twoderville and still have a loooooonnnggg way to go to get to onederland. i may never get there, but i'm so happy where i am that i really don't care any more. I can eat any type of food and have never been stuck or PB'ed or had any issues really. there were a few instances early on with nausea that we narrowed down to being caused by my time of the month and i take medicine for that now just a day or 2 before my period and it stops nausea in its tracks. i hope everyone else is doing well and seeing lots of NSVs in addition to the weight dropping.
  4. Wow, where is the time going? I can't believe that I am seven months out already. This has truly been the best thing that I have ever done for myself and like I tell everyone every month, if you are on the fence or nervous about getting the surgery.... DO IT and don't look back! After 33 years, I can finally say that I have started to enjoy life and experience my life how it should have been lived a long time ago. I abused myself with food and found comfort in it but today, I look at back and think, what the hell were you doing. You ruined your childhood, your high school years and your college years because you were too obsessed with food and then too ashamed to go out in public. While yes, I was always the happy one on the outside, deep inside, I was not happy with my physical self. Today, because of this surgery, I can say I am truly happy. Yes, I still have a ways to go to hit goal but if I didn't lose another pound, i would be happy. I am down 112lbs and have hit onderland for the first time in 20 years and am weighing in today at 196lbs down from 308lbs and have gone from a size 24 pants to a size 14 and a 3x top to a xl or l top. I have had so many NSV's theY are hard to list. The best one though is that I can go out and live my life. That's my biggest non surgical victory! Thanks to all of you , I would not be where I am today withouth all of your kind words of support and also your encouraging pictures of your own success. Much love to you all and continued success on your own journey!

    ONEDERLAND!!!

I just wanted to tell my peeps that I am in onederland finally!!!! I had my surgery August 8th and I am 8 weeks post op today! I weighed in at 199.1! It feels so good to say that I have lost 35 pounds since the beginning August 1st (one week was preop). I am feeling better these days and have just starting doing aerobic classes this saturday. I am still tired some but its not bad anymore. I can eat anything but I eat my protein first. I am drinking water better these days. I am so glad to be nearly two months out already! Time is flying by! I am having nsv's like crazy!
  7. Good news and bad news. Bad new is I PB'd and slimed after only about 6 bites of food at lunch today. Thought I was going to die it hurt so bad. Now onto my good news. I had a NSV today. Got into a pair of pants I haven't worn for about a year! :)

    July 2011 Bandsters!

Hi, all! I, too, wanted to check in and see how everyone's doing! I got my third fill last week and I think I've finally found the green zone. I'm able to eat very small amounts of solid food (1/2 a cup on a good day) and am making sure I get my protein by adding one or two shakes every day. I've discovered that I'm a VERY slow loser, but have (after some minor frustration) come to terms with it, mostly. My weight will regularly drop several pounds, then bounce back up, then finally settle out at a net loss of a little over a pound a week. But better than that are the NSVs. I'm back to exercising regularly. I take yoga classes several times a week and have actually started running again--or rather, I had started running, but hurt my knee. So now I'm using the elliptical machine every day and doing the low-impact equivalent of running. I've dropped several clothing sizes. I'm able to keep up with my toddler. I LOVE MY BAND!! How's everyone else doing?
  9. I am feeling SO much better. My left side incision finally released and the pain I have been experiencing in that side is finally gone. I feel like a new person. I have lost 16 lbs since 9/6 surgery and about 16 inches overall. I have moved from a 22 to an 18 in clothes and I feel so much better about myself already. I am finally in the mushies stage and eating canned chicken, tuna, baked fish, Beans & cheese, eggs, etc. I picked up some cottage cheese and greek yogurt to try out tomorrow. I am walking alot and trying to make sure I get my fluids in. I have been on a stall for the past 12 days so I am hoping it ends soon. In the meantime, I am counting my other NSV's such as my blood sugar and blood pressure being normal for the first time in over 5 years. I know this surgery was the right decision for me.

    My NSV

So I am at a plateau, now adding in more exercise (joined the YMCA yesterday and burned 699 calories yesterday alone!!) and trying to eat less at each meal and stay below 1200 calories....the scale isn't moving much these days, but I have new reasons to celebrate..... Last week I had to go get new bras....the old ones were super loose in the cups....so loose that I had to cut off the excess material!!! But today was the REAL NSV!!!!! I measured myself...something I haven't done since surgery day... I lost 3 inches in the waist 3 inches in the bust 4 inches in the hips nothing in thigh....might have to re-measure that one! 1 inch in the upper arm!! Went from a size 42DD bra to a 40C...first time in over 10 years and 3 kids that I've been a C!! I've gotten rid of my size 20-22 clothes, now working on getting through the 18's.... went to a wedding last night and wore a size 16 dress without busting out of it!!!! It fit great and felt even better!!! I even danced in HEELS!!! I'm not a dancer by an means, but danced longer than I ever would have even thought of pre-banding!! Woot woot!! If I can figure out how to add pics before and now I will do so.

    Clothing NSV

    Congrats! Quite the NSV.
  12. I did the BIG closet purge today . . . cleaned out ALL the 3x stuff (HURRAY!!) and organized everything else by size. I was previously wearing a size 24 jean and I got into my old size 20s . . . and they were LOOSE!! I also put on a dress I wore when I first met my husband (I think I was around 200-210 then) and it fit . . . snugly, but it fit. I'm SO excited!

I don't know what I'd do without it! But I have a question: what's NSV? Don't laugh at me!

I had to sit down and CRY!

OK, this is the LAST time I am going to try and update my blog! I have written this three times, and each time when I hit the "Post" button, it disappears! If it doesn't work this time, forget about it. I have been saving my loose change since Christmas, and took it to the bank last week in anticipation of flying home earlier this week. ($320.00!!!) As soon as hubbie picked me up at the airport, I told him I wanted to go to The Blond Genius. It is a retail store in West Des Moines, IA that specializes in fitting anybody in jeans and making them look good with a great fit. They are pricey, but they always look good. Their slogan is "We Can Fit ANY Body!" So we headed to West Des Moines, and I went in ready to spend my cash. I told the sales clerk I had lost about 80 pounds recently, and didn't know what size to try on, but maybe to start with a size 16 or 14. She brought four or five pair into the fitting room and I started to try on jeans. She asked to see each pair, and finally she said "these are all to big on you, let's try something else." She brought back a bunch of jeans and I tried on size 12s! I thought "never, no way, no how". But guess what? They zipped up easily and looked GREAT! I was so thrilled, I had to sit down right there in the dressing room and cry for joy! (Am sure the sales clerk thought I was Crazy, Nuts!) I don't think I have ever worn a size 12. I went from children's sizes to a size 16 womens with no pause in between for smaller sizes! A 12, I can't believe it! How great is that! I am thinking of making a sign that says "I wear a Size 12 now!" and hanging it on my back just so the world will know! When my husband came to pick me up at the airport, he drove right by me, he didn't recognize me at first! Had to back up the car when he realised it was me. I have to say, my sleeve is the best thing I have EVER done for ME! Anyway, all you VGSers who are in a stall or not loosing as fast as you want, hang in there, the (NSV) rewards are SO worth it!

    NSV

Hello everyone, Like most people I did great my first month (lost 20 pounds), but this second month has been a struggle (gained and lost the same 2-3 pounds, twice!). Today I was hoping to be down at least 21, 22 pounds....and although I was down 1 pound, still 20 pounds total! I was getting a little frustrated. However today is October 1 and on the first of every month I said I would take some pictures to track my progress (3 profile pictures in 4 different outfits). I almost didn't take them today and was telling myself, "you haven't lost anything just take the pictures next month". But oh my goodness, I'm so glad I did this today! I really didn't think anything changed over the month because of the scale issues. But the pictures tell a different story!! I could really see a difference between last months pics and today!! So feeling good and proud of my progress, although a little slow and the scale didn't show it this month, there was progress! Thank you pictures! And holy crap, comparing today with August 1....wow, I can't believe the difference!! I did start working out again two weeks ago as well....so maybe that has effected things too! I hope everyone else has been taking pictures
  17. So many NSV's lately, it's hard to remember them all. Fitting in the "goal jeans", running/walking 4.96 miles in under an hour, etc. I LOVE MY SLEEVE!!

    Sept 2011 bandsters

I can see a change in my face as well. Not quite as round as it was. I am down about 23 pounds since the beginning of my preop diet, Sept 1. That is a lot of weight to lose in one month!! I am having all kinds of NSVs. Back in jeans for the first time in forever. I had refused to buy any larger AGAIN after ridding myself of the 24s and above the last time I lost it. So I just had to wait to get back in my 22s that I outgrew this time last year. My shirts that were tight are beginning to get a bit too lose as well. I love this part of losing weight. Also, I am finding it easier to shower and can reach parts of myself that had needed assistance. I may just retire the back brush in a few more pounds. that may be TMI, but it is a real NSV in my book.

    my first nsv!

    What r nsv's???
  21. NSV- fit into my size 15 levis jeans today.. scale is stubborn but I will conquer it..

    my first nsv!

Thank you so much for sharing your NSVs! There have been so many times that I've tried on jeans and haven't been able to pull them up over my thighs -- it would be fantastic to be able to try on those same jeans and zip them up. Very inspirational!
  23. Big NSV-- just tried on my leather boots which were tough to zip up last year. Not only did they zip easily, but there was plenty of room in the calf. Now if it would only get cooler.....

Okay it's time to celebrate some good things since surgery!! Today I went into a store called Anne Sez . The highest size they carry is a 15/16, but I figured I could fit into their tops. I tried on the jeans anyway and they fit perfectly-no muffin top, no squeezing, just prefect!! I didn't buy them, but I may go back! This is so exciting! I also tried on a size 14 coat because they didn't have a 16-and it fit too! It was a little tight around the shoulders, but not too much so-I was really tempted to get it because it was so cute and I figured it would still fit when I lose more weight-BUT it was over $200. I still might get it! lol People are starting to notice my weight lost-I love that! My husband now says how nice I look when we go out I carried in a 20 pound bag of dog food and it was SO heavy! Just to think this time last year I was carrying 2 of those around each and every day-no wonder I was tired all the time! I have so much more energy too! I have a skort that I didn't fit into last year and now it slides right past my hips! I haven't weighed myself in a long time so I am thinking maybe I should-I don't feel like I lost any more weight but who knows? Oh-today I drove through McDonalds and order a chicken snack wrap-grilled. I didn't eat the wrap part and the chicken inside was perfect for lunch!! Under $300 too! So today I decided to celebrate the small things! I even postponed a fill appointment because I don't think I need it. I NEVER thought I would say that!!
