  1. Hi all I'm still in the hospital hoping to leave later today as I needed a little attention due to type 1 diabetes and kidney failure but the thing is I'm starved. I have no trouble drinking soup, yogurt a container and even a Protein shake. After I'm content but not full and feel like I could eat again. Any suggestions Has anyone tried applesauce? Did that make you dump? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  2. I'll be 6 days postop on Christmas. Doctor said I could try yogurt and cottage cheese by day 4, will try later today. If that goes well, would it be okay to try some thinned mashed potatoes or yams, or.. something usually served for the holiday? Would powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury mix in okay with those? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Purée Diet - I'm so lost

I've been on purees for 6 days now and I've yet to truly "puree" anything...it might help to think of it as a mushy food stage, in a way. I've been continuing a Protein shake a day (most days), greek yogurt, sugar free pudding, refried Beans with Laughing Cow cheeses, ricotta bake, oatmeal (yuck), grits, and very soft scrambled eggs (make with milk). So far I haven't been bored and it is SO much better than liquids! No one says you have to puree meat if you don't want to.

    Suggestions on what to eat?

Being dehydrated can make you nauseated. Up your Fluid intake pronto. Are you taking an acid reducer? Early post-op I had a very picky tummy. No dairy except Fat Free Greek Yougurt, no acidic foods, and no spice. No bread, Pasta, or grain. I ate lunch meat, moist chicken, greek yogurt, soy milk, anderson split pea Soup (most other cream Soups bothered me) and GNC Gold Standard whey Protein in vanilla, unjury Chicken Soup protein. I had the occasional saltine cracker. For veggies, I ate a bite of mild veggies, such as zucchini or carrots. Only fruit I could eat was applesauce, bananna, and watermelon. I recommend calling your doc ASAP if you can't up your fluid intake. Lynda

    January 2017 Sleevers!

Every pre-op diet is different. Mine doesn't allow yogurt at all or any solid foods. It is liquid only for 2 weeks

    Soft foods

Taco meat with salsa and fatfree sour cream. Greek yogurt, my wife makes a killer chicken cacciatore with the Purdue trim and fit style chicken, she puts everything in a crock pot around 8am lets it cook for about 8hrs to the point where you the meat just falls off the bone. Baked flounder or tilapia was good too

    Really need the PROTEIN

Protein shots and greek yogurt are about your best alternatives when it gets to that point. Good luck to you...I've been there. If you can't stomach the protein shot straight, add it to Water and make it into a juice beverage.

    August surgery ppl

My surgery was 8/22, and also included the repair of a huge hiatal hernia. (Huge is the clinical term...I thought they were trying to justify the extra 90 minutes and $16k.) I had some rough pain after surgery, spent three nights in the hospital, and stopped taking pain pills on day six. I tolerate liquids ok, though feel like there’s a traffic jam in the middle of my chest when I swallow anything - even water. On day 7 or 8 (Days have blurred.) I got a wicked rash across my torso and right arm. I’m fairly certain the rash is an allergic reaction to the antiseptic soap they sent home to wash my incisions. I think mostly to keep me sedated, and thus not an inconvenience over the holiday weekend, the Rx for the rash was 200 mg of Benydryl every 4 hours. I spent the last 3 days as a zombie - sleeping so much that I’m afraid I’m now dehydrated. I’d go to the ER, but, since my own doctor’s office doesn’t seem to listen to me, I’m afraid they won’t listen to me, either. I’m feeling panicky... I’m supposed to return to work on the 12th, and I’m only tolerating applesauce and yogurt, and I’m so weak, I can’t begin to describe it.

    Pre-Op Gastric Bypass

I am always surprised to hear about other pre op diets. Mine is restrictive but not liquid at all. I can have 800 calories and 80 or more of Protien. They gave me a menu sample and lots of yogurts lean meats etc .i know I will miss caffeine the most and my glass of wine with dinner! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. Kenny, apparently my surgeon doesnt use an xray or barrium.... he just makes you swallow yogurt as he's doing it & that gives him an idea of how much restriction you need. I did ask him how he finds the port & he just said that he has magic fingers. I do hope that he wont need to stab me a dozed times to find it. Eddie, Driving up to Canada sounds really lovely. Best of luck with that. The only part of Canada we're see is Niagra Falls - which we enjoyed very much. I wish we could get married here..... when our government changes (hopefully later this year).. we think that the new government might allow us to have at least a "civil union"...well it's a start to some rights. The way I look at is after 14 years together we deserve as much rights as the so called "straights"... our neighbour has been married 3 times and if you put them all together to doesn't make it as long as Des & I have been together. By the way Des' surgery went fine & he's ok & not in too much pain....finally repaying all his kindnest after my surgery. FIRST FILL THIS WEDNESDAY !! BRING IT ON BABY !!! Love to everyone - have a good weekend !!! XX

    Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)

Small update. FOOD: So last night I has some sugar free pudding, since that's on my list, and did fine with it. Today I had some Light Greek, Nonfat Vanilla Yogurt. Had about 4 ounces in about 3 minutes and felt fine. Again I worry about this because yeah, I understand not having restriction with liquids but this? I'd think since there was/is more substance to it it would be different. Hope I'm wrong. CRAVINGS: Strange enough, can't say that I've been too hungry or starving or anything, considering I've only had liquids for like 3 weeks straight now....lol, but at times I do feel hungry. And during those times I find myself craving lots of strange things. Some of it is stuff I don't even eat like steak and liverwurst. Most of my cravings have been about meats and salads. Can't wait to have both!!! SLEEPING: A lil progress. I was able to lay flat and sleep in bed without too much pain and today I woke up feeling even better. I have been icing my stomach regularly for the last two days. Wondering if that's been helping?

    September 16th surgeries

Well, I am on soft foods now, but my typical day goes like this: Breakfast: about 1/2 to 3/4 cup malt o meal, or 2 scrambled eggs with salsa Lunch: soup or rolled up lunch meat and cheese, or a little bit of chicken salad with cottage cheese or egg salad. Dinner: about 4oz of fish or chicken, some cooked veges. I have had a couple of snacks in between because I am hypoglycemic and cant go more than about 3 hrs without eating *something* so I will usually have a string cheese, or cottage cheese, or this greek yogurt called Fage, it comes in little individual servings with a tiny side of fruit and it is soo good, and bonus, has 10 grams of protein!! I also have one 12 oz protein shake in the mornings, or else have one of those 42 gr protein bullets split up in two during the day ( I mix it in a little crystal lt to kill the taste) So, thats pretty much my day, I feel like I'm eating alot, but I'm not, and I do get full pretty fast. My first fill isnt until Oct 22, but my surgeon does them under fluoroscopy so he gets it pretty accurate, so he says. And I've lost nearly 14 lbs so far, so Yay for us!!

    Dr. Oz

Watching this now and what a load of Cr@P! This woman is obviously too tight. Programs and people like this give banding a bad rep. Of course she should be eating solids and if she was only eating 5 teaspoons of yogurt then she would probably be constantly hungry and would be eating sliders far more often than 3 times per day. I hate shows like this.
  14. This is a great topic and until you posted it, I never real put much though in to it. I would now categorize myself as extreme restriction because most of the time, I do not eat what I prepare for my family. I am five months post op and still have a shake every morning and eat mostly cottage cheese, babybels, pb and apples and greek yogurt. I cannot tolerate most meats, so that is a huge downfall for me. But there are days (like yesterday) where I made my son and his friend chicken nuggets and tater tots and I ate two tater tots, because like you and many others I refuse to gain any of the weight I have lost back, I have put waaaay too much time and effort into this process. The two "meals" I have made and enjoyed are the ricotta bake and a cauliflower mac & cheese. Other than that, I eat the same things day after day.

How much you can eat ?

I'm just over 3 months out and eating about 600-800 calories a day. I've had a couple 1000 days this month but it was two days that I ate things I shouldn't over my birthday weekend. How much I can eat is depends on the density of the food. Solid meats ensure that I will never get to any vegetables. I always eat my protein first. I can eat two eggs for breakfast but only one if I choose to make a slice of bacon. I have good restriction and have zero hunger. If I didn't eat until I was hungry I would go all day without eating. I never feel sensations of hunger. I plan breakfast and dinner and eat lunch when I think about it but most times I end up just snacking. My favorite snacks are Greek yogurt, cheese sticks wrapped with a piece of ham, almonds, walnuts, or protein shakes. I'm halfway to goal with 40 pounds to go. My weight loss is slow compared to others but I am happy with how things are going. With all my stalls my skin has had a good chance to bounce back. And at 50, my skin needs all the help it can get:-)
  16. Oh my, I would love have loved a lean cuisine at the beginning. My diet consists of 3 protein shakes per day, up to 2 "snacks" (like 1/2 cup plain greek yogurt or 1/2 cup low fat cream soup, 1/2 cup no-sugar-added applesauce, or, if I'm feeling particularly famished, 4 oz pure fruit juice), and unlimited sugar-free, zero-calorie liquids (like crystal light, broth, Propel Zero, etc.). I go to clear liquids the whole day before surgery, and then on the day of surgery just water from midnight to 7am (my surgery is at 11am). So far I'm surviving. When I remember to have my 3 protein shakes per day, and space them out at regular intervals, as well as take advantage of the two snacks per day (yogurt is the most filling) my hunger is much better controlled.

    December post ops

Wait, we can eat pasta? I thought that wasn't allowed. I am so confused on what to eat. Like I eat protien only....I never have room for anything else. Like dinner tonight I took 2 slices of lean turkey from the deli, mixed it with some plain greek yogurt, sprinkled some garlic powder, dried onions and some shredded cheese. It was decent...but that was it....a 1/3 of a cup pretty much. Breakfast was one scrambled egg and lunch was greek yogurt with protien powder mixed in....am I eating right? So confusing!!

3 Weeks Out. What Were U Eating?

I'm 3.5 weeks out and just experimenting with soft food. Yogurt is good and oatmeal. Also tried mashed and sweat potatoe. For me it's the portion. 1/4-1/3 c. That's it. My mind says more because it miss the taste.

    Breakfast

What's your go-to breakfast in a hurry? I can only do so many shakes and protein bars and on weekdays cooking breakfast isn't an option....I've about Greek yogurted myself to death lately.
  21. While I am not vegan, i do have crazy food allergies that has made it difficult post op. (I was sleeved on 2/8/17) I am highly allergic to cow's milk, whey, yeast, and a few others. These allergies have made it difficult because I can't eat cottage cheese, cheeses, puddings, traditional yogurts, hummus, etc. So while I am not officially vegan, I am eating like one due to allergies and where i am at in my healing. And frankly, I am struggling a bit to get in my Protein. I drink Vega shakes twice a day. (40 grams there) I eat eggs, and have eaten Almond Milk yogurts (tough because there is only max 5g protein in a 6 oz cup). I've even mixed some Protein powder into my tomato basil Soup. (which was a bit weird because of the vanilla taste) While I enjoy my Vega, Orgain, and PlantFusion Vegan shakes, I don't necessarily want to drink one every day for the rest of my life. However, it may be a reality because I can't eat/drink all the protein waters, bars, wafers, Snacks, etc that are out there for quick protein. My one word of advice, is plan the foods you can/will eat at each stage of recovery (Clear liquids, full liquids, puree, etc). I didn't. I thought it would be pretty easy to incorporate what I'm already doing. But it's really not.

    KETO

I will be doing a variation of keto in that I have no intention of eating any fruit since I don't care for most of it and I don't want to trigger any sugar cravings. I also have gluten sensitivity and don't eat any gluten containing products (wheat/barley/rye) or the gluten free crap they sell at the store. I do make my own almond bread which I do not plan to have until much later. I love almost all vegetables and I am the queen of cauliflower. I absolutely adore chicken or shrimp fried "rice" with cauliflower as well as other recipes. I plan for this to be my ongoing weight loss diet. I do not purchase any fat free stuff and use small amounts of regular unsalted butter and/or EVOO. I did get some plain, reduced fat FAGE greek yogurt for my current postop period but not eating much of it (2-3 ounces per day) Protein sources of chicken breast, salmon, shrimp, fish, black or red beans. Not a big red meat fan. Love all types of cheese but will have very little, more like a garnish. I dislike sodas and juices so no worries there. My downfall are the candy type protein bars (atkins and others) and sugar free chocolate stuff that taste so good that it is hard to eat a reasonable portion so those are out. Swearing off all alcohol until football season at the very earliest. Hopefully by then I will not want it.
