  1. This thread spoke to me!! I was sleeved 4/10 lost 24 lbs in the first 2 weeks. I haven't lost anything in over a week and I too gained 2 lbs. I've been so upset, I knew there would be a stall but the weight gain was just devastating. I even began counting calories and working out. I was thinking what if I never loose anymore weight!?!? Is that even possible?! I'm glad I'm not alone and I hope this stall ends soon for my sanity!
  2. I am very sad for her because I have been there; not winning Biggest Loser but gaining back weight that I worked so hard to lose and the shame and embarrassment associated with that. Wonder if Dr. Huizenga will stop judging those of us who choose WLS and stop thinking we are taking the easy way out. Since Ali Vincent became the first woman to win “The Biggest Loser,” she has battled ups and downs — and struggled on the scale. After shedding 112 pounds to win the show in 2008, Vincent says she has gained back most of the weight she fought so hard to lose, nearly returning to her pre-“Biggest Loser” weight of 234 pounds. Her struggles, she revealed, have made her ashamed. “When I struggle I shut down, I feel alone, I push people away, I hide, I sleep all day, I eat, I try to feel satisfied and comforted but do nothing to allow true satisfaction or comfort.” Vincent became a celebrity during “The Biggest Loser’s” fifth season, when the 5-foot-5 champion walked away from the competition 112 pounds thinner. “I have had successes and I have had major losses,” she wrote on Facebook last week. “I have gone from feeling alone to having thousands of people reach out with support. I have experienced ultimate highs that I could have never dreamed of as well as nightmares I wouldn’t wish on an enemy. Quite frankly some of them have gotten the better of me and I have struggled. But the next year, she told NBC’s “Today” that she already was apprehensive about regaining the weight, explaining that she was worried that she would put the pounds back on unless she spent every spare minute at the gym. She said she continued to use her BodyBugg, a calorie-management system that the contestants wore on their arms, and threw away all of the junk food in her home. “I childproofed my life,” she told “Today” in 2009. “I don’t want to leave anything to guesswork when I have the tools not to.” But the weight started to creep back on anyway. Vincent recently appeared on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN series “Where Are They Now?” and talked about a low point several months ago, when she was slammed with comments about her weight during a Facebook Live chat. “I really started hiding after that,” she said. On April 15, the eighth anniversary of her victory, she didn’t get out of bed, Vincent said. “I was ashamed,” she said. “I was just ashamed. I was embarrassed. It was a low point. It was probably my lowest point. I won ‘The Biggest Loser.’ I was the first female to win ‘The Biggest Loser.’ Like, I’m Ali Vincent. I’m supposed to be strong. I’m supposed to know how to do this – I do know how to do it.” Vincent said she realized that she was headed in a dangerous direction. “If I keep going in the direction I’m going,” she said, “I don’t know if I’ll ever come back. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to have the strength to do something different.” Then, Vincent said, on April 16, she did “one of the hardest things in my life.” She decided to lose the weight — again — and announced publicly that she has joined Weight Watchers. “I swore I would never be there again, be here again,” she wrote on Facebook. “I couldn’t imagine a day again that I would weigh over 200 pounds. I feel ashamed. I feel embarrassed. I feel overwhelmed. I feel like failure.” Vincent is chronicling her latest weight-loss efforts online. Weight Watchers, which is partially owned by Winfrey, said Vincent is a not a paid spokesperson. “I’ve decided to feel proud of myself again,” she wrote. “To hell with shame. I’ve been so afraid and worried of public shame and ridicule that I’ve created more pain for myself than anyone else can but not anymore. “I know there is going to be a lot of faking it until I make it on the proud front but I’m starting with taking action.” http://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/%E2%80%98i-feel-embarrassed%E2%80%99-a-%E2%80%98biggest-loser%E2%80%99-winner-confesses-her-weight-gain-shame/ar-BBsq9yz?li=BBnb2gh

    So confused sbout birth control!

I have used Depo and it made me soooooo depressed. It also tends to make you crave carbs, hence the weight gain. If neither is an issue for you, it was effective. I currently have Mirena, and it is great!
  4. I had my sleeve on 7/21/2018 and I started losing a pound in a half a day. I was 350lbs pre surgery and I have STOPPED losing weight and I am stuck at 313lbs. I weight myself every morning and noticed this morning I was actually 316lbs. This is super discouraging and so I wonder that is happening. What should I be doing differently? I recently started walking and swimming on a daily basis. Trying to walk always 30 minutes of some exercise a day. Nothing seems to work. I feel like these last 16lbs are taunting me! Some help ease my mind :-)

    Weight Gain or Nah?

Thanks for quick reply that's what I was thinking HBP pills usually a diuretic which could explain the weight gain...I started to take half a pilly was getting light headed on full pill! thanks, Rob
  6. These past five months have gone by fast...it seems like it was just a few days ago that I decided to start this journey... A gal at work got gastric bypass and was telling me about it. The WLS skeptic in me still thought "there's no way in hell I'd ever do that...I can lose the weight on my own..." I told the gal from work that there was no way I could fathom the idea of having my intestines rerouted and there was no way I was getting a band...all the complications and potential removal were just to much for me. She said "why don't you have the sleeve?" "the what? What the hell is the sleeve? Hmmm?" So I quickly googled the sleeve and if I were in a cartoon I would have had a damn lightbulb over my head...the sleeve sounded amazing to me...sure cut out a hunk of my stomach...it's only caused me more weight gain...no band, no port, no rerouting, no tiny stomach pouch! So I started my research and found NWWLS in Everett, Wa. It's a center of excellence and on my insurance. I called for a consult and got in to see Dr. Robert Michaelson. The staff that I met is great...most have bands/weight issues themselves and they make you feel comfortable, you aren't just the fat person in the waiting room. Dr. Michaelson is great...he said I'm the most informed patient he has had. (gotta love the medical assisting diploma and my yearning to be a nurse!) I wish that my family was more supportive. Some people just tell me I need to exercise more or eat better but it's hard...they have no idea. My mom lost 100 lbs but now she drinks...ALOT. It makes me sad when she harps on my weight and when I bring up her drinking its a different story. My sister in Las Vegas is supportive! Love you Ash! I don't really have a dad since he was abusive and I think he helped me become the obese individual that I am. Granted both my mom and dads sides have a high rate of obesity...he was an a*****e. Even when we were younger he would tell us we were fat and if we could pinch an inch we needed to lose weight. My mom was abused and she drowned her sorrow in food. My sisters and I learned the behavior and for me it all created a weight monster. When I started puberty I started getting boobs and hips and my dad called me fat even more. I decided to take matters into my own hands. When we were at the grocery store I secretly bought this weight loss book...you know the little ones by the checkout counter...and I had calories and fat content memorized...I barely ate. During 7th-10th grade I starved myself. I would do exercise in my room for a few hours and I would run down our road...I looked at other gals at school and was envious of how skinny they were...I saw a pic of myself that a friend posted on Facebook and I can't believe how tiny I was. I WAS one of those skinny girls. My collarbones were sticking out...I weighed less than 100 lbs and I was almost 5'4. I'm still 5'4 and often wonder if starving myself stunted my height...I guess I'll never know. I didn't eat Breakfast, for lunch I had a soft pretzel and a lemonade, for dinner I ate rice with some margarine on it. I would eat fruit in season. I think when I met my hubby I was probably 130-150 lbs...I was 19 and I think I ended up partying to that weight. Gradually I think I got comfortable with him and I started eating again. I think my body was in shock and kept on everything I ate...I'm now 319 lbs and ashamed of myself! I have a sedentary job...my boobs have always been huge so its truly hard to exercise!!! Even when I starved myself I wore 2 sports bras and it didn't help. I was the gal running in gym class with my arms up in front of me trying to stop the pain... I'm just so ready to start new!!! I want to have babies...2-4 I hope. I got pregnant when I was 23 and had a miscarriage. I tried after that but it never happened. I think I started eating more after that as well. The doctors I went to always told me it was my weight. So I'm hoping that I'll have babies soon! I have the symptoms of PCOS and my sister has it. I want to run marathons, get out and play games and sports with my friends and family, get my nursing degree and get a job where I'm not sitting all day. I want to... Ride on a plane without a seat belt extender Sky dive Bungee jump not get winded walking upstairs not have achy knees Have my boobs bigger than my stomach Wear regular sized clothes Buy clothes off the rack and not at a specialy shop Buy cute bras and undies Not be so self conscience about mysel Be happy Etc etc lol
  7. @ That's really interesting, thanks for posting it. Does anyone else find it a relief to see more medical research referring to elements of weight gain that are out of the patients control now? I mean, of course I know there are many things that are IN our control that we can do to keep our weight down, but hearing more about the hormones and genes that influence our need for food takes away some of the crippling guilt I have been carrying all my life. Birth Control ?'s

After talking with my doctor I opted not to get the depo. She said the average weight gain is 5lbs a year and she said she didn't want to set me back. I ended up with the lowest dose of hormone pill available.
  9. Hi everyone, So just want some feedback as I weighed in today and started pureed food 1 week ago. I have 6.2lbs back of the 11lbs I lost the first 2 weeks. Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong? As anyone else experienced this?
  10. Ok first off I had to have two surgeries for my band. After the first one the band was too tight and nothing went down. 2nd surgery fixed it... I went for my follow up last Friday and dropped 32 lbs since Dec 3rd. Also my doc said that they may not even have to do a fill because the band should still be tighter than most people. I'm already eating people... Lol and I have gained 5 or 6 lbs... Is that normal? How do u know when to stop eating? I can't really tell... Although I'm not eating near as much as before the surgery I think its a substantial amount. So, I'm thinking I need a fill and that appt is not scheduled until 2/12... I'm thinking of bumping it up... Is this weight gain normal?
  11. Hello All! I have been looking into getting surgery for years now. I have a job that covers the surgery so long as I meet the requirements. I have Cigna and one of the requirement is that I follow a weight management program for >89 consecutive days or 4 visits. I have my last visit on March 13th and I am nervous because my surgeon advised not to gain weight. I gained 2 lbs my last visit so now I'm working towards losing those 2 lbs I gained plus an extra pound or two. My question is did anyone go through the weight program with Cigna and gain and still got approved? They don't specify whether you need to lose during this time or you will be denied so I just wanted to ask others on here to see what your experience was.

    Help On Weight Loss

You weight lose sounds great, I on the other hand have lost 50.4 pound since 4/11/12. The docs are happy but he tels me not to worry about the weight lost because the goal that I want should be reached in a year. He tells everyone the weight gain did not happen over night. So look at your inches and the weight on thescale make sure that you are eating health beause it helps with the changes. This way you would not put the pounds back on. Good luck on your journey
  13. I’m glad I saw this post. I’m feeling really depressed over my weight gain. I’m 3 years out from surgery and up 20 lbs and 2 dress sizes. I keep obsessing about what people are thinking also, when I know I should not care.

Do what's best for you and don't worry about anyone else. It's so easy for people to voice their opion. But if they are not in your shoes it does'nt matter. I would have asked the granny, well what did you get banded for,I thought the cut-off age was limited....I think that would have closed her mouth...I am so glad to hear that you are doing so well,I havn't had my surgery yet but from what I have read that the weight the first week was water weight gain from the liquid diet that you guys are on so don't let that bother you,It will leave and you will be shocked as to how the weight will come off,,,,you take care....and have much luck with your band

    Metformin for PCOS

Hello Everyone! I just wanted to share this information with anyone else that may be suffernig from PCOS. I saw Pulmonary the other day and they suggested I try metformin for PCOS. He said he was afraid that seeing PCOS causes weight gain, that I may have trouble keeping the weight that I loose from the surgery off, he said Metformin would help me do that. So I brough the name of the medicine to my Primary and she liked the idea and prescribed me 500mg once daily. In addition to letting you all know about it, can anyone else who may be on it tell me how it is working for them? THANK YOU!
  20. I was prepared for the three week stall. I have read numerous threads about it and know it happens to everyone. I weigh myself once every few days, sometimes up to five days. I last weighed myself on Saturday. I was 270. This morning, I am 271.4. I am still on a liquid diet, getting about 75 to 80 grams of Protein. I drink about 50 ounces of Fluid, working to get to 64 ounces. My goal is to have a lymphatic massage to release toxins and detox. Is weight gain also normal during the stall? Sent from my SM-G360T using the BariatricPal App
  21. I recommend logging every that you eat, specifically calories. If you do, then what does it look like comparing the two months? When I get frustrated because of weight gain, for example water weight, I am aware that I can easily fall into the old habit of feeling defeated. Now I look at my calorie intake and determine whether it is real or just water weight. It is a way not only to make sure the weight will continue to come off (or maintenance in my case), but also, keep me sane from self-defeating feelings. and actions that usually follow Like if I am eating 1300 calories according to my journal, week to week, and one day I gain 5 lbs., I know there is no way that the 5 lbs. I gained is fat and it must be water weight. So it gives me guidance, accountability and more importantly, peace of mind.

Hi All Im New To This App.

The sleeve is different from bypass, but welcome here just the same! Some weight gain could be from moving. I read that the stress of moving is equivalent to losing a love one (who knew) But I completely agree, go back to basics. Go to the website "5 day pouch test" and try that diet. It takes you for 5 days, 1: clear liquids, 2: full liquids, 3: mushies, 4: soft and 5 regular. That may help getting back on track. Good luck!

Anyone with PCOS? And/or BMI <35?

SeeMeBeMe2: :wow2: You have been through a lot. I'm glad that you were able to find a good doc to treat you. I was diagnosed with PCOS last May. I don't have the cysts or a lot of the other symptoms but no periods and weight gain. Anyway, I was put on birth control. 2 weeks before banding in March, my surgeon told me to stop taking the pills for a month. Well, my period has come on its own since then. I never went back on the pill. I have a gyn appt coming up next month so I'll see what she says. I have a lost a little over 5% of my weight. Even with that small amount its doing a body good!!!!

Anyone with PCOS? And/or BMI <35?

I was diagnosed with PCOS in October 1996 and have a number of surgeries, medications and a long line of other treatments for this disease. I too struggled with having a regular period and went almost completely absent of any menstruation for 4.5 years. When it came time for me to try and get pregnant there was a lot of discussion about IVF, but my Reproductive Endocrinologist gave me an injection of Ovidrel and I became pregnant 2 weeks later! I had the band implanted in October 2005 and it has its pros and cons. I have lost approximately 40 pounds since then and it has assisted in controlling my weight gain since I became pregnant. Fortunately, I am 21 weeks pregnant and I have only gained 6 pounds. I have had a number of complications over the last year and a half from the band, but overall I am glad that I did it. I would happy to talk more with you about any of these topics if you are interested. :Banane43: Ms. Jaime Z. Banded: October 27, 2005 Lost to date: 40 lbs. Current fill level: 1.5 cc (Was 2 cc before pregnancy)

    Spouce Issues: Input appriciated

Gummie, sounds like your husband has a little passive-aggressive thing going with his weight. Do you think he might be trying to punish you for losing weight? Some guys do get insecure when their wives do something to make themselves more attractive, so instead of trying to make himself more attractive he does the opposite. Then he can blame you if anything happens to your marriage, because you couldn't put up with his weight gain even though he stayed with you when you were heavy. I'm just doing some totally untrained and probably misguided psychoanalysis on him, and could be way off base. Anyway, I don't think you can really do anything to stop him other than go on with your life, avoid any enabling behavior, and don't let him see he is getting to you. He may straighten out if he sees you are happier and healthier without the extra weight, but still not about to leave him. You can't talk him into doing anything about his weight; he needs to decide himself that he would be better off without it. By the way, you don't need to be 100 lb overweight for a lap band that I know of. Is that your doctor's rule or your insurance's guideline?
