    Week 3-----Questions

I'm a little over 4 weeks. My NUT wants 3 Protein supplements and 3 meals per day. With that and trying to get Water in - it's a full day. That's weeks 3-4 and 4-5 (3-4 is puree and 4-5 is soft foods - basically the same food, just not pureed). A sample menu for me is something like this: So Breakfast is 1/2 scrambled egg and 1/2 Jimmy Dean turkey sausage Snack is a Protein shake (I might do a Health Wise hot chocolate - 15 grams of protein) lunch is 1-2 ounces of lunch meat with 1/2 ounce of cheese Mid-afternoon - protein shake dinner - 2 ounces chicken salad w/ low fat may or greek yogurt and mustard Snack - another protein shake That's about 600-800 calories - I had a day in week three that I got up to 900 calories, but that day I had a long walk on the treadmill and burned over 400 calories. I was tired and hungry. I can't tell you about exercise, because I'm still only walking. I'm going to put a call into the doc to see if she'll release me for anything more than that...I'm getting bored on the treadmill. Hope this helps!

    chicken noodle

My Dr. made me go on clear liquids for the first 2 weeks. Then the after that for a month liquid and soft food diet. Although I must admit I did have chicken noodle soup and I did eat noodles but it did hurt. So be carefull and blend - blend - blend.
  3. N2B8R, thanks you (and thanks everyone!) I had already had a 6 month supervised diet from almost 2 years ago and my medical history (i have a BMI of 40 and Hypertension) and they had the info for about a week, asked for more info ( not sure what Amy at Dr Curry's office sent them that time) but they approved me. Good luck to you! Gayle

    where's renebean?

Hi! I have been in a vegetative state for the last three days... But I am here, and I am alive... Not banded - but alive. My request for Independent Medical Review has been acknowledged by the State of California and I can expect to here something within 45 days... Something like the first week of February - by my loose reckoning. I have been busy at work, so I haven't spent as much time on-line as I was there for a while... But I do keep tabs. Thanks for asking. Everybody keep your fingers crossed that someone in the State of CA is rational and will overturn the ridiculous denial by Blue Cross. :]

    Protein Pills

I'm 7 weeks out and was worried about the same thing. Nut, surgeon, and surgeons nurse all said the same thing. The most important thing the first few weeks is to get fluids in. At this stage i'm still struggling to get 80g of Protein per day. But now i'm going to go look up this protein shot in the previous post.
  8. I had my first fill today! I've been mostly able to keep it to three meals per day leading up to this, but was still just a little hungry. The PA gave me the choice of fill or no fill. I went ahead and did it. So far I'm down 23 lbs since surgery 3 weeks ago and seem to be slowing down on losing weight. Here's hoping I keep up a good pace! Nick
  9. Had a revision surgery done on 10-16-10. Wasn't sure my band could be left in or not. But with great luck I was able to keep it. They did a endoscopy to make sure my stomach tissue was still ok. So now its starting all over again. No fluid in band now, will see maybe in 2 weeks they will put some in. Although can't eat a whole lot now anyway. Question for all banders out there, did any of you suddenly start your monthly cycle after surgery. I am mid cycle and am having a period now. Also anyone having trouble taking oxycodone pain meds? It makes me not able to focus my eyes.
  10. It was about three days ago and I am just now starting to go back to normal. I will try drinking a whole lot more when I start running again. Thanks for the input.

    Cool trick!

I have a mini crockpot that I use several times a week at work. This little thing is amazing and everyone that has seen it has bought one of their own! It plugs into an outlet and will have your food piping hot within an hour. It holds 20 oz. I'm hoping to get as much use from it post surgery as I am now. Go check it out! http://www.crock-pot.com/specialty/for-lunch
  12. Look at it however you want. Now is the time to learn all your new eating habits and drinking habits. This is a full time job for awhile. I am almost 3 weeks post op and it is still a challenge. Keep up the good work and best of luck.

    Is This a PB?

This is kind of gross, sorry.... Yes, and as Jack said, you got off easy! Mine combine a PB and a slime and you'll find me hunched over the sink with slime coming out faster than I can spit it (and I can't swallow it because I'm blocked and it won't go down) There is intense pain, I can't talk or function - all I can do is concentrate on getting the pain to go away. Finally I feel a retching kind of feeling (not like vomiting, much less intense) and the food finally comes out in a projectile PB, all slimy and it sometimes takes me three tries to get it unstuck. Attractive, huh? SOOOOOOO not fun~ and not something you want to happen outside the privacy of your own home! It always happens when I eat something dry and especially if I eat cake...good reason not to eat cake! (but I seem to keep trying)
  15. thanks alot going to see nurse etc this week and soon the doc himself - have you had this done?

    exercise with bad knees

I also suffer from bad arthritis in the knees and I was off NSAIDS for two weeks prior to surgery. Was in so much pain that I worked from home because walking was torture. Talk to your doctor again about going back on NSAIDS. As soon as I got home the day after the surgery, I was back on the NSAIDS and got relief within a couple of days. Also...as other posters have said, use a pool if you have one available. I've joined the local 'Y' so I can use their pool. It's the only way at the moment for me to exercise without pain.

    How's everyone doing?

I'm nervous Seriously, it's not all that bad at this point - after all, I'm still at LEAST several weeks out, and I don't have a surgery date scheduled yet or insurance and financials finalized. I think that makes me more nervous in some ways than the surgery itself. How are you doing? Everything settling in well now that you're a few weeks out from your surgery, lrgandwrg? Since you had the same surgeon as I will have, anything I should know about?

    Scheduled for June 17th

I would love to have the list too! I don't get to go to the nutritionist until next week.

    Scheduled for June 17th

Hey there Jennifer, I'm a teacher too and my date is also June 17th! I could have had it done this month, but I didn't want to do it during the school year. My nutrionist gave me a list of foods I could eat pre-op and post-op until I'm healed. I have a hand-written calendar and list that I'll be typing up this weekend. If you want to see it, I'd be happy to send it your way when it's finished. I'm so list-oriented, I feel like I want a calendar and list taped to my fridge to remind me exactly what I can have and on which days. We are out of school on June 3rd, so I'll have a few weeks to fret! Donna

    Help! Am I "stuck"?????

That doesn't sound like a "stuck" episode. When I was 4 1/2 weeks out I was able to eat the same items you described. It wasn't until this last fill that I started feeling those horrible "stuck" pains. I'll bet you are just healing. Good luck to you.
  21. SML1997, I am right there with you. I just finished my Options classes in Corona a week before you did. I have my medical interview on the 20th, and just stucking in limbo until then. I am pretty confident that I won't have anything to worry about but of course it's that not knowing part that bugs but what can you do? Please let us know how your appointment goes, always good to have someone going through the same process as I am.
  22. How long has the stall been? Anything under 3 weeks they say isn't considered a stall. As far as throwing up....that WILL make you week, give you headaches and cause that 64-80 ouces of Water and that Protein to not really be at those levels because you've thrown them up. If that's the case then you're not getting in enough and that will cause the headaches too. If you're throwing up a lot, that will aggrevate your pouch and make it so you can't take in enough without getting sick and you may be throwing up because of a stricture. Have you asked for an earlier appointment? Sounds to me that switching back to liquids until your tummy settles would be a good thing but, you should really call your doc a.s.a.p. I wouldn't wait until Monday if you don't have to. I sure hope you feel better and get answers soon! hugs

    Swelling

Some people have swelling immediately following surgery and sometimes fills, if their particular anatomy is prone to that. Sometimes, people come out of surgery very restricted for the first few days, due to surgery. If you mean bodily swelling - after surgery. Nope. In fact, my severe leg and ankle swelling went away the first week after banding and has never been as severe since. Thank goodness! As for gas, I think the band is placed in such a way that it contributes to gas. From Dr Ortiz's book, it says it is for most intents and purposes, a one-way valve, which could contribute to the buildup of bodily gas and bloating, which is quite common in banding.

The last 5 days of pre-op diet

I lost 4 pounds the first week. I'll weigh myself again on Tuesday before surgery to see the total. I had lost 5 pounds in the month prior to starting the pre-op diet.

    Calories or carbs

Neither, nor do I count points, protein or anything. I have failed at diets all of my life. I don't want to spend the rest of my life on a diet. Instead, I just make healthier choices and listen to my band when it tells me it is time to stop eating. I am losing the recommended 1-2 pounds a week by doing this and thrilled with my progress.
