I take 4 pills every night NOW. However, I have been restricted so tight that I was unable to swallow water, much less pills, so I had to ask the pharmacist for a liquid alternative. The taste was utterly horrid. Otherwise, if you can't swallow them, you can crush them and hide them in yogurt or pudding etc. However, if you have capsules, you need to make sure they are not time released and it's okay to open them. Otherwise, your pharmacist may be able to suggest an alternative.

How to stop weight lost.
foodfighter78 replied to foodfighter78's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
thank you! I'm working with both a nutritionist and a psychologist, today was good day I try to eat more, even had pasta, Greek yogurt, and finally some shaved meet with olive oil and lemon. I was able to keep it down. I need to let myself gain some weight and be ok with it. Because I had surgery to have a healthy life with my kids and husband. -
As far as restrictions, do you mean food restrictions? Basically, there were food restrictions, but from what I have heard, they were not as restrictive as some others I have heard. I was eating egg beaters, tomato or split pea Soup, yogurt by week two, and by week three I was adding on more like cream of wheat and oatmeal, and by week's end...soft fish but that was my experience with my doctor. I am going to have my 2nd fill this Wednesday, and I just weighed myself, and I have lost 29-30 lbs...(not a digital scale). Regarding any food I eat now, its basically anything but in moderate portions, I just make sure that I chew well, and eat slowly. As far as knowing how much my fill was, my doctor doesn't tell me as he doesn't like his patients to get "hung up" on how much each fill is, and now that I am going in for my second and have read a lot of these message boards and see how many people talk about "how much their fills are" I can see that people do get hung up on that so...I guess I kind of agree with him. He knows and writes in down, and that's good with me, as he is concerned with the weight numbers either. He wants to know what I am eating and how I feel and what I am doing to feel better. To him, this is about the health issue, and not necessarily the numbers...as they will come along with the rest, but too many of us get caught up in the "numbers game" and get off the idea that we are going to be doing this the rest of our lives, so what we really need to do is change our eating patterns and how we look at how we see food and exercise. I will tell you, though...getting your first fill is weird, and an unusual experience...its doesn't hurt, its just a weird experience.

GmaDiana replied to lf1227's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I went to couple Disney parks when I was 2 1/2 months out.I was able to eat salad, grilled chicken, shrimp.I did take some protein shakes to make sure I got my protein in.At Hotel had scrambled eggs and brought some of my greek yogurt. Most hotels have yogurt high in sugar.Just make sure you drink all day or you will dehydrate quickly.I know we hate to buy water but dehydrating is a lot worst..Most hotel have fridge and Microwaves so I would get some food I could eat and keep in fridge. -
Can't seem to find a protein bar I can stand
cmonk replied to jbaker5d's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Have you tried Atkins bars? I like them but I understand and agree with the density. They have one that's a blueberry yogurt bar it's not dense and is really like a granola bar, very easy to eat. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Best way to Stop Losing Weight
FluffyChix replied to Apple1's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I agree wholeheartedly! I can tolerate 1oz of blueberries, or any other dark berry, 1 1/2oz of Granny Smith apples or unripe pear, and 1oz of peaches. LOL. I eat them about 2-3 times per week with something else--usually a mixture of cottage cheese and Greek yogurt, or a string cheese + almonds or walnuts. Otherwise my blood sugar spikes to 170 and doesn't come down after 2hours! -

Did anyone else feel relatively healthy before this journey?
Recidivist replied to Chelle1007's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome, Chelle. I will first say that I did feel pretty good before surgery, although my labwork suggested otherwise. I had been obese for so long that I guess I didn't know better. Once I lost all the weight, I realized how "good" really feels! In answer to your questions: Taking meds: I did have to crush them for a couple of months and it is disgusting. Unfortunately, that's part of the process. I found that the quickest and easiest way was to simply put the powder on my tongue and wash it down with water. (I tried them in liquid, in yogurt, etc.--even worse.). After trying various multivitamins, I found that "soft chews" worked best for me. Even the so-called "chewables" in hard form made me gag. Water: It is indeed very difficult to get the full amount of water at the beginning, but it gets better over time. Bear in mind that protein shakes can count as part of the liquid requirement. Just do the best you can. I had a bottle of water with me all day long and took sips as often as I could. Liquid and puree stages: Yep, they are boring. I found, however, that I had no appetite whatsoever and had to force myself to get enough protein every day, so I didn't really care what things tasted like. If you mean "bland" as in not spicy, that is probably best in the beginning. I ate lots of non-fat Greek yogurt at the beginning, and I got really sick of protein shakes. Again, it's all part of the process and you will get through it. I've never heard of anyone having to "start over" after eating the wrong things during the puree stage. Some people talk about a "pouch re-set" when they stop losing weight, but that's more psychological than an actual physical issue. Good luck! I promise that you will look back in six months and wonder why you hadn't done this sooner! -
i found individual greek yogurt cups at sams today. i am so excited. just thought i would share.

I'll tell you a little about me I need help

My Surgery Was On January 11, 2013 I Started With 233 Pounds. As Today My Weight Is 200 Pounds, So I've Only Lost 33 Pounds. I Feel That Not Much Progras And Really I'm Following All The Rules. I Eat Evrey 5 To 6 Hour Small Portion .Drinks 8 Glass Of Water A Day I Have My First Fill In2/26/2013 4cc Feel No Difference And I Feel I Can Eat More Than 6 Ounces Per ,Meal ,But I Control Myself Not To Eat Much Or Over Eating. my Question Is You Think I'm Good Or I Do Not Have Much Progress? After The Fill And Only Loss 2 Pounds. I'm Very Confused And I Have Much Fear Of Failure In My Weight Loss Attempt , The Truth Is That I Feel No Restriction With 4cc And I Can Eat Anything Bread, Rice, eggs, Almost Everything That Everyone Says You Can Not Eat. Like Bread Or Rice I Dot Eat But Is Because I Do Not Want. So Please ,Please Need Opinion Of You And Let Me Know If Everything Normal Ho No Tank U I had to copy and paste + punctuate to read your post. It can take a few fills to make a real difference. Are you 1) measuring 1/2-1 cup food that includes 4 oz lean Protein and a small serving of fruit or veggies? If not, then you're really not eating a band friendly diet and you're not going to be satisfied. 2) after this meal, do you feel hunger, real hunger, not "head hunger" or cravings, for 4+ hours? If you can go 4 hours between meals, you're good. Just have to deal with head hunger, go for a walk and try not to think about food. 3)Are you eating white carbs at all? White carbs contribute to cravings, cravings cause head hunger. Keep some raw carrots on hand, make ranch dip out of ff Greek yogurt and ranch mix, dip your carrots in it...high protein, low fat and satisfying snack. Even if you're hungry, eat only band friendly foods. Even eating 6 oz protein and a salad with ff dressing, you can lose and meet your nutritional needs. Hang in there... -
How is it to cook for others after surgery
Mookie_Chislett replied to Allformyson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I live with my fiance in a little flat and I cook just about every day, nothing fancy, I normally end up making what he wants to eat and then what I want. It isn't too hard to make two separate things, as long as they aren't too complex. Since August 09, I have been entertaining 5 people at my flat every Tuesday, so all in all it is 7 people on Tuesday (though I hardly count), and I have no trouble at all cooking for them, even if I make something that I cannot eat, I instead grab some greek yogurt or something of a similar sort. Or, of course, I can always fill myself up tasting the food as it cooks. -

Am I Being A Pig Already?
BettyBoop replied to happy1957's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Early on after surgery, (although I am still less than 3 months out) I ate a fat free light yogurt. The whole thing! It FREAKED ME OUT! But then later I read about slider foods. They do go down easy for me. So I am careful with those. My NUT was surprised that I had no problem drinking my Protein drink in one setting. It's not like I guzzle it! But it seems to go down just as easy as Water. However it is different with meats. For me, it is important to weigh my foods and count calories and keep a log of what I eat. I started it before I had surgery and I will always do it now. It's habit. So I am on MyFitnessPal.com every day. Keeps me on track. And everyone and every surgeon/NUT is different. I was told to get in between 70-80 grams of protein a day. So that is what I do. I think you're doing fine. However, for me, it seems your protein level is to low. BUT, you gotta do what your NUT says and what is comfortable for you. -
5 Months and 94 pounds down (caution, underwear pic)
mom2five replied to mom2five's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Oh, I forgot to answer the question about meal planning. I don't really do that. I should. I have every intention to but I'm a procrastinator and I leave everything to the last minute. I wish I could be like those people who prepare their meals on Sunday and freeze them...but I never do. I just try to make sure that I have things available that I can eat. I make sure we have plenty of beef Jerky, cheese, lean meats, eggs, tuna, chicken, cheese, yogurt, etc. so that when it's time for me to eat, I have good choices. Lately, I've been eating pork rinds as a snack. The BBQ ones that I buy have 80 calories, 8 grams of Protein, and 0 carbs per 1/2 ounce serving....and I can eat the whole serving...so, to me, that's a great snack and it satisfies my craving for chips, and crunch! -
Feeling like I was Banded and kicked to the curve. I'm lost ;(
enjoythetime replied to Ms.Vickie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Every Dr. And nutritionist has their own " rule book", but here's what mine told me to do. Again everyone is different and I'm not saying my plan is right for you but atleast this will give you some guidelines. Daily Gummy multi-Vitamin Daily gummy Calcium supp 64-80 oz if water-shoot for 80 60-80 grams of Protein per day 1200 cal. Per day Your plate at each meal should contain: 3-4 oz of protein 1/2 cup veggies 1 serving of carb, like 1 slice whole wheat toast, 1/4 cup brown rice or fruit. be careful some people have a hard time with rice because it swells (I personally never eat it). Now there's an order to how you eat what's on your plate. ALWAYS, ALWAYS eat your protein First, then your veggies and then IF you still have room eat your carb. I try to limit my carbs to once a day and some days don't consume any except for what's in the veggies and fruit. Do not drink anything while youre eating or 45 min.-1 hour afterwards. Always stop eating BEFORE you fill full, only eat to satiety. Watch for soft stop signs, they vary from person to person like runny nose, burps sneezes anything you notice that happens consistantly etc. You should stay away from soda and all carbinated beverages. Stay away from sliders like ice cream, chips, Cookies. Basically anything that slides through and doesnt fill your pouch up to give you that satisfied feeling. Don't drink your calories. I always watch my sugar intake as well, no medical reason to its just not good:) You should feel/stay full for 4-5 hours after each meal. If not and you find that you're starving in between meals and its TRUE hunger and not head hunger then feed your body with a nutritious snack, like a 100 cal yogurt, fresh veggies etc. If that still isn't doing it then it maybe time for a fill. If you're having problems with eating certain foods or are productive burping (pb) or can't keep food down call your doctor, you probably are too tight and may need a slight unfill. If you have any specific ??'s let me kniw and ill do my best to answer based on my journey. You'll do great!! Best of luck!! -
May 28-31st Sleeve Week!
WhoKnows replied to lylabelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, after being cut on the 28th, I'm home now! I was discharged yesterday and I feel pretty good. Incisions still suck, but I'm able to get in all my liquids and I can do purees. I'm getting way sick of Protein drinks though; some other people mentioned being fed up with sweet stuff, and I hear that! All I want is something savory. My last day in the hospital they gave me mashed potatoes and it was truly awesome. Of course, that's not the sort of thing I'll be making for myself at home, but it was nice! And @@hrhlaurie, you're not the only one who didn't get a leak test. My surgeon said he does the one while before they stitch you up, but doesn't do a swallow test because of the two leaks he's ever seen, one happened too soon to be caught by the test and the other happened too late, so he just doesn't see the point. Fair enough I guess. I mean, I wouldn't have minded doing one, but I trust his judgement, and since I'm feeling so good (relatively speaking), I think I'll know if something is wrong. I also had my first BM today (yay for bathroom talk!). It was teeny tiny, which doesn't surprise me, since I've eaten probably less than 1/4 cup of actual food since Tuesday. But today all I want is something savory and not made from instant powders like at the hospital! So, I'm gonna make some black bean Soup and puree it, then mix in some pumpkin seed protein, and instead of sour cream I'll do a dollop of quark (something common here in Germany that is sort of like Greek Yogurt, and tend to be eaten on potatoes; also very high in protein and low in fat). My surgeon said for now I can eat about three tablespoons at once, so I'll just freeze the rest in ice cube trays, and I should be set for food for a while, even if I half the recipe. I'm gonna save a bundle on food! -
Hard time getting protein in!
Kiara5244 replied to Kaggin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
invest in unflavored protein powder..usual has low calories fat and sugar. Plus its easy to add it to everything. I add a tablespoon of it into my gravies, soups, sauces, yogurt, pudding etc. At first it wont seem like a lot but throughout the day it adds up. Just be careful not to add too much at a time or else you'll end up with a gross unbearable meal! -
How Much Weight Did You Lose On Your Pre Op Liquid Diet??
jaejae79 replied to ashleey921's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
2 weeks- 15lbs. 2 shakes a day and one protein meal, a snack of cottage cheese, yogurt, or fruit and all the veggies I wanted (minus the starchy ones- corn, potato.. etc.). -
Today is my week out as well. I can't wait until yogurt tomorrow. Other then 3 protein shakes a day I am on clear liquids for 2 weeks, adding yogurt and puddings only tomorrow. Feeling okay other then some tightness in the chest from hernia repair. Planning to return to work next week. Keep up the good work, it will be worth it!!

I weighed in for week two and I'm at 288. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little let down since its only a pound, but I'm also not surprised. I've been having a hard time adjusting to eating on a schedule and eating consistently. It seems like my metabolism has completely shut down, which makes sense. The other thing is that I haven't been active at all. Between school through the week and work all weekend I've been giving myself an awful lot of excuses to not work out. I have a treadmill so at the very least I can be doing that. Hopefully I can settle into some sort of routine. No pain or discomfort at all this week. I have noticed I keep feeling my port. I don't know if its just a nervous habit to run my hand over it or the sheer fascination of being able to feel this strange object in my body but I do it a lot haha. My appetite is back, but still in a strange way. I'm having a really hard time trying to tell if I'm hungry or if I have the urge to eat. The urge to eat (and overeat) is in my head. Other than knowing its 'time' to eat, or knowing that i need to eat something I'm not sure if I'm feeling hunger. But when I do eat, I want to eat a lot. I've been trying to limit myself and have been doing a decent job but I definitely need to drinking my shakes more. I've ventured into new territory with my soft foods, I've been making chicken salad and chicken with bbq sauce. Does anyone else feel like by the time they add all the stuff to make it 'soft' they've added a ton of calories? I've been using miracle whip instead of mayo (which kills me lol), and substituting Greek yogurt in anything I can get away with (because it still tastes like sour cream), but still- it adds up. Any tips? I haven't really pursued vegetables except for potatoes (again-super starchy! help!), but thats on the to-do list for this week. In other fun news, I just booked my first real vacation ever! I'm going to North Carolina in May when school lets out to visit my best friend. I'm so excited because I feel like that's enough time to make a big difference. Since she doesn't see me everyday, it'll also be interesting to see her reaction. Plus ya know, beach ocean swimsuit blah blah blah. Should be quite an adventure!

Is 7 cc enough for a 10cc limit band, and what you have? Much love :)
illuminationlady replied to Rose7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm proof that it's different for everyone. I have 5.9 in a 10 band and I have great restriction. I eat eggbeaters with cheese for breakfast, a salad with chicken breast for lunch and 1/2 chicken breast or fish with 1.2 yam and veggies for dinner. I usually have one snack of Greek yogurt with honey dribbled on top. No more than a cup of food at a time and 64+oz. of water a day. Hope this helps...Best wishes!!! -
Whats been the hardest thing for you to give up
Jachut replied to Lovinglife24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didnt think I'd given up much, so a few months ago, I would have said that. But I've been unfilled for four months now and what do I go nuts on? salad, fresh fruit, berries, yogurt. All those cold crunch foods which I could eat but which I just stopped enjoying. They made me too full, caused me discomfort, were difficult to get down, etc. And toast. I am on strict instructions to eat bread (I have an ileostomy and chronic diarrhoea with it) to thicken things up, so I do eat toast for Breakfast again and man, its sooooooo good. I ate all those things with restriction but they werent as enjoyable. But seriously the hardest thing was (and still is) just learning not to eat out of reflex. Like its 4pm now, I've made a cupppa, kids will be home soon and I've cooked all afternoon for their Snacks, cleaned out and reorganised the pantry, been for a run and I had chemo yesterday. I'm damn tired and feeling a little sick. Its my automatic reaction to treat myself with a couple of sweet biscuits, or one of the cakes I've just made. But I'm truly not actually hungry and I just dont need to eat it. That's hard. Its not even a craving, just an automatic reaction and its still hard. I also find it hard to finish eating when my stomach says satisfied but my head says, that is delicious, keep eating. I find it hard to allow myself a glass of wine and not have the chips with it. Unlike others, my body doesnt seem to hate carbs so I never gave up Pasta, rice and bread. And now, I eat a carb based diet to manage my ileostomy, and will have to continue to do so once the ileostomy is reversed. It hasnt affected my weight at all, in fact I'm skinny as skinny at the moment.
