  1. So I was sleeved last Tuesday (10/25). I feel like I was as prepared as I could possibly be. I lost weight pre-op, had no trouble following the liquid diet, researched the heck out of it and felt I had a handle on the next stage. It seems so different than I thought it would be. I have had terrible nausea but relatively no pain. I just can't wrap my arms around the inability to eat and drink. I am getting in my Water but really struggling with the Protein, especially since my surgeon doesn't allow Protein shakes. I get double milk, Soups fortified with dry milk, pudding made with double milk and Greek yogurt. It is hard!!!! They said to take it slow and I have but wow! I am probably only getting 300 to 400 calories per day and feel like that is difficult. I know it will get better but I don't think I expected how hard it would be. snacks

@@surfhudson, I don’t think there is anything wrong with snacking as long as you count it towards your daily totals and make up for it by having smaller meals. I mean, if you’re going to have 1,400 calories, for example, it doesn’t matter much whether you have three meals of 400, 500, and 500 calories, or three meals of 350 calories PLUS two Snacks each with 175 calories. As for what to have…think Protein, then Fiber, and of course filling! I always like to think about easy snacks, too, because I tend to grab whatever’s around. If nothing healthy is on hand, I am more likely to go for easy junk like chips. You might start with a protein, like hard-boiled eggs, Greek yogurt, low-fat string cheese, tuna, or Peanut Butter. Then think about adding some fiber, usually from fruit or vegetables. Have cottage cheese with fruit or veggies, dip cucumbers in Greek yogurt, pair celery or apples with peanut butter, or dip carrots into hummus. Beans and soybeans make a nice two-fer – they have protein and fiber! You can have roasted chickpeas or soybeans, or have a half-cup of fat-free refried beans or low-sodium canned beans. For something sweet, you can always do low-sugar flavored yogurt, or a Protein Bar, or fruit with ricotta cheese or non-fat cream cheese.

    Soft food

I stuck to scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, greek high Protein yogurts as well as Protein drinks initially, in the soft food phase and introduced other foods slowly. That way I could log down all the protein, carbs etc I had that day rather than making a meal and not really knowing the nutritional value of what I was able to eat. It's boring I know but I added foods one at a time so I knew what was working for me and what wasn't. It was only when I was near goal that I relaxed about eating meals that I couldn't track as much. Congrats on the surgery
  5. Yes I had the sleeve over two years ago and then converted the sleeve to the bypass. Post op six days now. Yes I had to do the two week diet prior to surgery. The first week consisted of a Protein shake for Breakfast and lunch, and for dinner, 1/4" chicken, Turkey or fish with veggies. Second week was all liquids, including Water, homemade broths, Protein shakes & tea. Tomorrow will be two weeks that I have been on liquids and it is very hard. I am so tired of protein shakes so I've literally been drinking more of the broths and teas over the shakes. I've been able to do about 1-2 shakes a day. I feel satisfied without restriction when sipping. I can finish one cup of tea or broth without any discomfort. I've finally lost the six pounds that I gained during the surgery from the carbon dioxide and all of the fluids from the IV. I have one more week to go on liquids and then I can have my first egg. Either poached, scrambled or egg whites. I can also have lowfat geek yogurt and cottage cheese during week 3. I can't wait for that. We are almost right around the same dates for our surgery . I'm happy for you! Keep in touch. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. Hey! I had a similar pre-op diet allowance, however I went to the extreme and did almost completely liquids with the occasional solid. I'll be honest, the first 3-4 days were really hard, but then it was like my body and mind kinda snapped together and I was fine. I used Muscle Milk as Meal Replacements. I know it's more expensive than just buying a thing of Protein powder, but they tasted so good and I just couldn't handle the consistency of Protein Powder drinks after the third day. Plus they have a pumpkin spice flavor that tastes amazing! Back on track, maybe have chicken and veggies once a day and do a replacement shake for your other two meals? In between meals, you can have sugar free Jello and plain Greek yogurt (bleh. Tasted gross but it curbed the hunger a little so can't really complain). And broth. I also couldn't stand chicken broth, so I just stuck to beef broth. But if you want more options, you could strain chicken noodle Soup and get that broth, or buy a bunch of ramen (whichever flavor you want) and just use the seasoning packet it comes with in hot Water. You can do this if you want to. The hardest part for me was fighting the hunger sensation. At first I felt hungry ALL the time, but then after a few days, it was like it went away over night. Now people are all different, so I won't promise it will be the same for anyone or everyone else, but when I felt like I was going to cheat or something, I kinda made a rule that I would just sit still and I wouldn't move until I knew I could get past it. The whole point of the pre-op is to shrink your liver, and I was determined to not self-sabotage. You just kind of find your anchor and stick to it. Also, and I know this sounds silly, but I have never used Twitter before, but I started one that I didn't share with anybody and would use it as a mental journal/outlet. I was honest, so when I was hungry I would complain about it like a child on there, or when I was feeling better, etc. I think that helped me mentally Sorry this post was so long, I got carried away... hope something somewhere in all this was helpful to you! Nothing tastes or sounds appetizing

Have you tried dairy? Oikos yougurt, soft cheeses, fairlife milk, or super soft eggs? I like to do a 1 part fairlife to 3 parts liquid eggs with one laughing cow wedge. It makes super soft eggs that dont weep liquid. A four ounce serving ends up at 100cals and 14g Protein. ETA - The eggs sounded better than the yogurt I had grabbed so i put it back and made myself some. HW 385 SW 359 CW 340 Sleeved 10/5/16

    HELP!

Hello everyone...I need help. I'm almost 4 weeks post op and for the first couple of weeks I did fine. Last week I got really sick with a stomach virus and since then everything has changed. I always have this horrible taste in my mouth, I can barely eat, I try to drink as much as I can...popsicles seem best sugar free of course, and everything tastes different. I was eating yogurt, pudding, chicken, eggs, and now I can't tolerate any of that stuff. It all tastes funny. I have talked to my surgeon, and he said it will get better, but I'm so depressed. I'm beginning to regret my decision. Has anyone come across this and can anyone give me some other choices to eat. Tomato Soup with melted cheese was one of my favorites, and now I hate it. I'm 24lbs down since October 5th, but it doesn't even matter because I'm so depressed. Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks Sent from my SCH-I545 using the BariatricPal App
  9. So I had to go out of town for work for 4 days. I forgot my Protein at home and with meeting after meeting didn't have much time to eat, let alone find a GNC for more protein. I had the free hotel Breakfast (which id just grab a yogurt) and then one more meal after that for the day. So I really was getting less than 20g of protein a day. Before leaving for out of town I was on a long streak where I was losing a pound a day and I was THRILLED. I just couldn't wait to get home and weigh myself. Well, when I got home I had GAINED a pound. I couldn't believe my eyes. I ate healthy, didn't eat much of anything, drank tons of Water. only thing i did different is that I didn't take my protein supplement. So there ya are folks. It IS important. I'm getting bored

I am 2 years post-op, so what I am eating now may not apply to you, but I will share anyway. A normal day for me is an egg and 2 sausage links for breakfast. Yogurt and nuts for lunch. salad with chicken or some other Protein for dinner. I'll have a Protein shake or bar for a snack at some point during the day as well. On weekends I mix it up a little and eat whatever I want, but stay under 50 carbs per meal. Yes, it is pretty boring. Sometimes it seems like the only variety I get in my diet is changing the flavor of yogurt or protein shake. But, it has worked and continues to work for me, so I continue to do it. I just try to satisfy my cravings on weekends and ignore them the rest of the time. You will figure out what works for you. Best of luck on your journey!
  12. My Nutritionist and Bariatric team strongly recommended Premier Protein both pre and post for easy protein. The only drawback to the Protein shakes were they made it necessary for me to begin mixing in some additional Fiber to my yogurt and other soft foods. In addition to Premier Protein, I've began to also use EAS Myoplex Original with 42 grams of Protein. I drink 1/2 to start the day and then the other 1/2 later in the day. I especially like their chocolate Fudge flavor. I just had my 5 week post-op visit with my doctor and the bariatric team and I am down 64 pounds from my HW and 28 pounds from my weight on the day of my procedure.

All my pre op liquid options

Yeah what I listed is pretty much what my info sheet says and what they said in the class, I think they're just blanket instructions. Maybe I will add one yogurt like yours a day. I had a cup of decaf coffee with sugar free creamer which they approved and that seemed to help a lot. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    3 weeks out, food volume?

I made a chicken salad yesterday that turned out surprisingly palatable. I used a can of chicken, a scoop of non-fat, plain Greek yogurt, a few pecans and raisins. A few seconds in the vita - mix blender and it was done. It was good! I ate it plain. Would have been great on crackers, but I'm sticking to my plan of purees only.
  16. I was sleeved on 10/14. I have been eating applesauce, cottage cheese, yogurt, butternut squash soup, sweet potato-apple soup, carrot ginger soup, and 1-2 PREMIER Shakes a day. My biggest struggle is getting the liquids in. I went back to school after the first week ( I am in bed by 8 P.M.!) and there is never enough time to sip, sip, sip....and then run to the ladies room! Best Wishes to you.

    Looking for August sleevers

I had my surgery on August 3. I get most of my Protein from fish---mostly broiled tilapia. Sometimes I will have a lean cut of steak or a grilled pork chop, but I tend to stick with fish. I eat sugar free yogurt for protein, too-----and when I have those moments of where I am just starving, a piece of low-fat mozzarella string cheese seems to take the edge off. I'm actually able to tolerate quite a bit of different types of food, but I have to be very careful with rice. TMI here, but the few times I have actually vomited, rice has been involved. So, I tend to stay away from that. Except for a few moments in the couple of days after surgery, I have absolutely no regrets. I love my sleeve and have been able to stop taking medication for Type 2 Diabetes. My blood pressure has been great---sometimes I feel a bit tired, but I think that is just my body adjusting to not consuming the amount of carbs that I was before. Also--my gastric sleeve surgery was my 4th surgery this year, lol. In a time span of 8 months, I had a hysterectomy, removal of my gall bladder and an appendectomy. 2016 has been quite a year!

Thank you for your replies. Yes they've done a culture. I wouldn't be so concerned but I had this issue prior to my surgery. I've been eating some yogurt and I drink the Protein shakes once in a while. grannyof6
  19. I'm just about 6 weeks out. I eat my few bites and stop. I'm not *stuffed* but I feel full. I wait the 30 minutes and I'm still feeling full and adding a sip makes me nauseated. I am very thirsty but obviously I am not going to make myself sick so I wait. I cannot drink until about 1.5 to 2 hours later. If I have something like yogurt, I only need to wait 45 minutes to an hour. It's frustrating. Do any of you have or had this issue? Does this wait time cut down as you heal better?

@@bellamia1359 my doc said no to vitamin patches. After the first month, I switched to Flintstones Complete chewables and life was much happier . When I was fresh out of surgery, I dumped the contents of my Calcium pills into my drinkable yogurt. Didn't even know I was taking them and the yogurt went down great. Take your time moving onto new foods, it takes a while for your tummy's inflammation to go down. I found that Fage yogurt mixed with a little Stevia, melted cheese mixed with some low sugar marinara sauce, and string cheese eaten VERY slowly were the only "solids" I could stand for a while. My bad on being late everyone!!! I'm buying a house and the lender has me running like a chicken with her head cut off to find all my records! I completely lost track of time. So, today is October 28th. I had my surgery July 22nd, which makes me almost exactly 14 weeks out! Stats: HW:180 SW:173 CW:136!! GW:125-130? On September 28th I have my weight recorded at 142.6 and today I've got 136.0, which puts my month 3 loss at 6.6 pounds! Again, I have to say I'm thrilled with this number. If I lost 6.6 pounds next month, that would mean I made goal at week 18 post op!!! I don't foresee that though. I'm very close to goal and am now starting to lift heavy weights to create more muscle. I will be very happy with a 3 pound loss next month. Right now, I'm paying more attention to measurements and body fat. I started at (I'm pretty sure) 41% body fat, and am now down to 21%!!!!! The ultimate goal is under 20%. hair Loss: None Loose Skin: None Scarring: 2 "big" scars next to belly button are visible but still shrinking. Boobs: Gone lol Energy Level: Through the Roof! Calories: 700-800 Vitamins: Flintstones Complete 2x a day; Calcium/Vit D 2x a day; B12/Folic Acid 1x a day, probiotic 1x p/ day Protein/Carbs/fats: 90+/ 10 or less/do not count, eat full fat everything Fluids: 64+ (regular coffee, propel, Vitamin Water zero, water at the gym...I still hate water). Stomach Capacity: still about 2 oz of meat. I can eat 18 raw oysters during a 2 hour restaurant meal though . Normal food in a day: 7:00am Coffee mixed w: Premier Protein (before gym) 10:00am Quest Protein Bar 1:00pm 2 Suzie's Thin Cakes with 1/3 cup melted cheese and 70 cals worth of guacamole on top (YUM!) 5:00pm 2 oz of something raw - salmon sashimi, tuna tartare, oysters - or 1 serving of almonds. 8:00pm 1 Suzie's Thin Cake with Smart Balance Butter and 2 tbsp PB2. If I feel extra hungry (like during cycle), I'll take a Fage yogurt and mix it with PB2, 10 almonds and a little stevia for the world's most creamy, crunchy & delicious Peanut Butter high Protein treat!! Enjoying my sleeve so much!!! But, like I always say, this process is soooooo not about getting down to goal, it's about STAYING there! So, reaching goal is only step 1 in this process!! I'll attach pics in my next post and will try to do better in getting my November post on the 22nd!! Congrats to everyone on this journey & good luck to all making their decision about moving forward with the sleeve. More surgery

Luckily, I've already had my gall bladder removed prior to my sleeve. But I did just spend a week in the hospital trying to pass a rather oddly shaped kidney stone. Doc said that it was directly related to being dehydrated and all of the greek yogurt I had been consuming (calcium and protein!) But, I'd still do it all over again to achieve what I have in the past 3 months!

    Sleeved and healing well

I totally skipped pureeing anything and just did soft mushy food... Lightly scrambled eggs, yogurt, grits, grilled tilapia, cheese, tuna with light mayo, sliced peaches... I just chew chew and chew.. I cannot drink food. It seems a lot of people on here did the same thing... Lolololol
