How long until operation date ?
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to Dawdaw122's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It depends on if you're going through insurance. You have to meet their requirements before they approve surgery. Some insurance requires 6 months supervised weight loss before being approved for surgery. Your surgeons office has probably already ran your insurance and are aware of what the requirements are. So give them a call and ask the inurance specialist what you're required to do and ask for a timeline. They can probably help you better than we can, since it varies so much from insurance to insurance and surgeon to surgeon. Some surgeons are booked far out with their surgery dates. -

Have you tried to go back to basics and begin again, your original surgery is still there. Just because you have gained some weight does not mean that it will not work again. You will have to go back to basics and do the Reset. I have read about it in this forum -
Gas
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to hollywrites2u's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've never heard of a prescription to relieve gas pain, but there's probably one out there. After I had my band removed, I want to stress this... I had no dietary restrictions, I had no difficulty eating or drinking, so I took charcoal capsules for gas pain. Disclaimer: please do not read this if you're post op weight loss surgery and take charcoal capsules for gas pain, because charcoal can block absoprtion of nutrients, so you can end up deficient in nutrients and protein. Stick to Gas X or whatever your surgeon recommends. With that said, Holly you could try charcoal tablets since you probably won't have dietary restrictions due to a weight loss surgery being on board. They really helped me a lot. Better than Gas X imo. You can find them at any pharmacy or on Amazon. Best wishes! -
It seems it may be related to an excess of all vitamins not just B12 . A lot of foods are fortified with vitamins to supposedly improve people’s health. Everyone eats more, but generally eats poorly then they take vitamins to make them ‘healthier’. I’d question whether the weight gain is from too many vitamins or too much poor food or both. Apparently though, having a B12 deficiency may lead to weight gain. As I said in my earlier post, if your bloods show you are lacking in a specific vitamin or mineral, a supplement is a solution (as is modifying your diet to include good natural sources of the lacking vitamin/s). But if you have ample, you don’t need it. Two articles I found you may want to read: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/vitamin-b12-deficiency-and-weight-gain#deficiency https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3932423/

Not sure if I should go through with it
Tomo replied to corinne2022's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think for every person there comes a time that the decision becomes an easy one. I had no choice. I had hit rock bottom. The longer I put it off, and tried other methods, the more I gained weight. For me, nothing was worse than having comorbities and hating difficult situations like fitting in an airplane seat, rides at a theme park, getting tired from a short walk. I was nervous as much as the next person but I knew it was my last hope to live thin and healthy. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Ok. I had my 4 week check up (via phone call). I told my surgeon that I didn't feel like my weight loss was going good. He agreed that it's not as good as it should be. After talking with him. I realize I'm not getting in my protein. I've been so focused on eating 4oz of protein. I wasn't thinking of getting 60g of protein a day 🤦♀️ What do y'all eat to get the full amount in? The shakes are making me nauseous now. I'm still on soft foods. So stuff like 2 eggs only give me 12g of protein. 4oz Refried beans only give me 6g. Im not sure how to get the protein in with out over eating. This is so confusing to me. Im a picky eater so this makes it even harder for me.

What is your current weight (your info shows you below your goal right now). I would say nevermind the doctors and their pressure or sales tactics. Have you fully researched both procedures? Which has the largest success rate? Which has the lowest complication rates? Which is more affordable (if you're out of pocket)? And there's threads here for both procedures, I think. I would reach out to folks on those and pick their brains about recovery time, pain levels, malabsorption, complications, costs, etc. -
Unfortunately I put some weight back on and am considering revision surgery. I have it nailed down to a mini bypass in Mexico or a kind of newer procedure involving endobariatrics in North Carolina. I am not sure what's better for me long term. It seems like the doctors are competing and trying to sell me something.

Just thought I'd do an update!! My Surgiversary was May 18th - I'm officially 1 year post-op and LOVING IT!! PROs: I can eat literally anything and I love it. Tiny portions were easy to get used to. I wouldn't change a thing. The portion control I used to struggle with is now effortless. It's nuts. Also, I ALWAYS have leftovers and it's pretty awesome. Weight fell off faster than I could keep up. My obsession with tracking calories is optional now. That's been nice. I can RUN up a flight of stairs - or two! It feels great being active. Now I understand why it was so hard to do things when my weight was higher. I can finally function. CONs: The HORRIBLE constipation/gas pains the weeks following my surgery cannot go unmentioned. The pain meds that constipate are a special kind of hell. It was worse than my c-section BY FAR. At week #4, I was getting back to normal. Now that I'm a year post-op, The reflux is still plaguing me. It's MUCH better than the 4 post-op months. I can definitely live like this if this is as good as it gets. I go between taking 20 and 40 mg omeprazole depending on what the food plans are that day. Pretty easy to manage now. Walking by a mirror is still odd. I've changed so much that I'm still surprised. When I buy clothes, I'm still confused by the sizes I'm fitting into. Never in a million years thought I'd lose so much in the 1 year post-op. Buying/fitting bras has been a nightmare, but that's for another post. Glad I did it! I would do it again! I can run and jump like a kid again! It's GREAT!

Hello, My name is Jeanne. I live in rural Central Oregon, USA, with my husband, two cats, two goats, a Scottish Highland steer, and a Basset Hound. I had my first appointment with the surgeon in January. For insurance purposes, I need to go through 6 months of Nutritionist appointments - my last one will be in August. I know that I do qualify for the surgery, so it's just a matter of jumping through their hoops. We are planning the RNY. Hoping for surgery this fall! I am 51 years old and 5'6". My highest weight was 245. When I met with the surgeon I as at 233. I'm currently at 219 - on Ozempic. Goal weight is 150.

I just had my 1st post op appointment 5/24/22 and the nurse told me to try and avoid the scale at all costs. She said that my metabolism will be doing all kinds of crazy things to adjust after the surgery. She promised to just follow the dieticians plan and get in some walking and weight will continue to fall off.

Blah...my first stall...
acopas replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I'm still in pre-op, but I swear my scale remembers my weight occasionally and doesn't move. I can weigh with clothes on or off and it'll still just show the last weight. I will have my youngest who is 3 get on the scale to "reset" it with her 29lbs self. -
My surgeons office says it’s normal for weight loss to be slow to start and sometimes even a little weight gain until week 6. If you are frustrated with it, can always switch something up. Eat more calories, workout a little longer, do a different workout entirely. I’ve been hiking with my dog the last few days for longer than our usual neighborhood walk and the scale is trending down. I’m out of the week 3 stall now it seems. The different elevation is probably helping me too—our usual walk is very flat, this new route is a little hilly.

Thank you....I have been reading some of the comments on the forum, I have gotten inspiration from here. I am trying to stick to a low carb diet so that I can loose a little extra weight before surgery, but I continue to struggle. I never go over my original start weight but I can't seem to go lower than 142 and then go back up. It's so frustrating! Sent from my SM-G981V using BariatricPal mobile app

So, did anyone else “stall” on week 2? I know about the 3 week stall, but I stalled when I switched to full liquid - even though I’m still under 500 cal per day. I actually gained a pound after the first day of full liquids. I am now day 13 post surgery and at same weight as day 7! I’m getting 60-70 G protein, struggling a little with water, but managing 50-64g and most days having around 420 - 450 cal/day. I am also doing 30 minutes on elliptical 4-5 days/week since Day 5 post-surgery.

Metabolic syndrome
Arabesque replied to imaginegirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If your high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high sugar levels were caused by your weight gain & food choices (the higher your weight the higher the levels rose) then yes, if you lose weight after the surgery, change your eating habits & maintain the loss & changes, the symptoms should not return to their previous high levels or will at least maintain at a lower, healthier point. If these issues have a genetic predisposition (occur in your family & are not weight related), they will always be something you have to watch. E.g. type 1 diabetes is genetic which you can manage but can’t change but type 2 is caused by lifestyle choices like obesity which you can do something about. After my surgery my cholesterol went from borderline high to the low end of the healthy range. My blood pressure was normal before surgery & now it’s low all the time. (Didn’t have sugar issues before but I know I have further reduced my risk for diabetes greatly. But talk to your surgeon & doctor for the best information especially as your medication contributed to your weight gain. -
Period Irregularity post surgery
Arabesque replied to Sunshine Princess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oestrogen is stored in your fat & as you lose weight, the oestrogen is released into your blood stream & messes up your usual cycle: heavier, lighter, more or less frequent, more or fewer PMT symptoms. It may continue for a few months. Plus the stress of the surgery can throw things out of whack too so you)43 being hit from two directions. . PS - the extra oestrogen can make you extra fertile too so some surgeons recommend doubling up on contraception. -
You’re not alone in this. Cravings are emotionally driven so you will need to identify the feelings, situation, etc. that are behind the craving. It’s not real hunger.Your body is not wanting food to function. Your head is wanting comfort. A lot of people gained weight over the past two years during the pandemic. People experienced more anxiety, fear, frustration, anger, boredom, etc. then ever before & they ate to comfort & soothe themselves. Were you referred to a therapist during your pre surgical process? If so, I’d reach out to them & ask for their help to support you to identify what’s really driving your cravings & discover ways to manage them. If you weren’t, ask your surgeon for a referral. All the best.

I'm on day 8 of my stall, and it's really annoying me. I stopped gaining weight several days ago (gained 4 pounds) but now I'm just sitting here not moving at all. Hoping it's over in the next week. I've seen a few people on here say theirs last 3 or even 4 weeks, and that would just freak me out lol -

DS or bypass after sleeve?
SleeverSk replied to TryingAgain2's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
A lot of people look at revision surgery due to severe Gerd and reflux. Many report that don't get a lot of extra weight loss. So I was thinking if it's just weight loss for you why wouldn't you try to go back to basics with the tool you already have ( your sleeve)? -

I'm watching a video given by a bariatric surgeon. Now I see that the surgery can get rid of things like high BP and heart disease. Good news! My only question is that, as long as you don't regain the weight, will these symptoms come back?
