  1. I totally feel the same way. My dr. requires a 2 week protein shake diet and I am on day 3. It is awful. I cannot stand the shakes. They make me gag. I was only able to drink one today and it was hard to get down. Does anyone know if it is okay to just not have anything but water? I don't know if I can drink one more of those things. I left a message for the doctor's office but they haven't called me back yet.

    Doctor supervised diet

Regina, that is what the insurance lady at the doctor's office said that my wife would have to do. However, with a BMI over 50 and a good strong letter of necessity from her doctor she was approved by BCBS in about two weeks. No supervised dieting at all.

    I survived

Ron is scheduled for a fill next Friday. He could have gone today but decided to wait until next week. I will be glad because after that he should not be wanting food as much. At least I don't even think much about food. When I do get hungry, a few bites of whatever happens to be available is enough to satisfy me. He is not at that stage just yet. Sheila knows how to get in touch with me so if you ever want to call that is fine. Dana & Derrick also know my home phone number. Call anytime...Good luck.

    Extra Long Tom

I am 4 weeks out and mine did not come this month?

    Worried!

I am struggling with that very problem right now. Sometimes (the feeling is fleeting) I get depressed about not "enjoying" food like I used to, i.e., pigging out, eating as much as I want, etc. Sometimes eating post-sleeve is not pleasant, it feels like a chore to me sometimes. Having said this, I don't regret my decision one bit. Only 8 weeks out, I feel great. Being emotional eaters, having most of our stomachs removed doesn't completely address the issue. I am seeing my therapist monthly to help deal with my "food divorce". LOL -Kendra

    A Newbie With Questions

Have you searched the site about stalls? It is quite normal and common. Your body is going through a major adjustment. Just keep doing what you are doing. Don't get discouraged and don't weigh yourself very often. Once a week at a minimum. Best if every two weeks.

    Daily Miralax

My gastroenterologist told me to take Miralax every day. It's an osmotic, which means it draws Water into the digestive tract. I wouldn't recommend Smooth Move (contains senna) for long term or even regular use, but I have used it every few weeks in the past. I have chronic issues that the surgery has made worse. The only long term solution that has worked for me is a smoothly that was recommended to me by an acupuncturist. 1/2 cup papaya (I buy a whole one and cut it up and freeze it) 1/4 cup aloe vera juice 4 prunes 1/4 cup of juice (anything you have on hand. I use cranberry or apple) Blend in a blender. You may need to add a little bit of water to make it blend better. Add stevia or Splenda if it's not sweet enough. The whole thing will have about 150 calories. I love the taste of it. After 3 or 4 days you will be going like clockwork!

    Daily Miralax

This is gonna be TMI, but after a few weeks of starting the no carb diet, I had it so bad that my bum was bleeding! Drinking a lot more water has helped. I'm sorry if this doesn't help you.

    Wondering?

Call your doc. All are different in what they want you to do. Mine said, as long as you're not doing crunches, or any real abdominal workouts, go full on. He told me I could hit the gym and start cardiac the day I get out of surgery.... Will I? Probably not. The first week I think I will stick with lots of walking. But yeah, call your doc or Barbaric Coordinator, she/he should know too.

    Wondering?

How soon can I hit the gym? I do mostly upper body weight lifting and bicycling. I'm only one week out but I see the weight coming off already....heck I'm still on liquids. I don't want to sag yet?!
  11. I don't make it a habit of pawing through my own emesis, btw, I just was surprised to find solids in the bag after 3+ weeks of nothing solid.

    So Far....

I promised myself I would take pictures of my progress mainly because it is so hard to see changes day to day....below is high weight (about 230), the day of surgery(220) and today (207.5)....almost 3 weeks out. Please ignore my filthy house and scowl (oh, and the horrible house shoes in the first phot!) Little by little I am getting there
  13. Im 3 1/2 months out and for the longest time i was only able to take two or three bites...now its more than that.i just want to know how much everyone is eating this far out.thanks
  14. Just as an update it has been about 6 weeks now since my surgery and a little over a month since I started feeling the sharp pains but I just wanted to report that it does get better. What I did was I purchaed a gaus from a drugstore and wrapped that around my waist where the port is to help with the pain and to keep it from moving and kept that on for over a month and now finally I no longer have the sharp pinches or pain anymore. I still have if I move around a lot a little achyness from time to time but its not bad. As a precaution I am going to keep my gaus on for another month just to make sure and my doctor thinks thats a good idea as well. Also I just got back from seeing my doctor and he said he can see nothing wrong that it doesnt even move so it could just be inflamation that can take months to heal with some people. So I just wanted to let u know that it does get better.
  15. Only a week of schedule from my infection, not so bad. Guess what, I am hoping that my Doctors scale is as generous as my scale. Okay nothing is as generous as my scale because it says I am only 200lbs. The scale at the gym yesterday said 204.5. I check on Mon, Wed and Friday. Is Tuesday I usually have one bit of something bad for me. The Thursday, they are my splurge days, so I have a chocolate covered cherry, or a sip of a sugary drink, something small. I am trying not to deprive myself. I am happy to report that the eliptical machine has been working. So hoping the Doctors scale reflects my daily trips to the gym as mine at home does and the one at the gym does. I will let all you newbies know how the fill goes.
  16. You can be even rougher than before, trust me, after loosing my first 100 pounds I can now take on all 3 of my sons in a wrestling match and win by power, not because of mere weight (sitting on them, LOL). Yes I'm still a tom-boy at my age. In the beginning you are going to have to watch your port area. But last week one of my sons hit it and I could really feel it. It doesn't hurt too much, just feels really wierd. And it takes a while for the general soreness to go away post-op. In the next few months I'm starting Tang Soo Do and should be fine. I'm not looking forward to being kicked in the port though.
  17. Hello everyone. I 've been looking at your forum lately and i decided to sign up and post in my turn my story and some questions i would need to be answered. I am a 25 years old. Male. And have been seriously obese since my childhood. Back in 2008 i used to weigh 140 KG (circa 308lb). At that time i had decided to go for the intragastric baloon. In six months time, by doing simple one hour walking 3-4 times per week, and following a diet strictly, i have achieved to lose 50 Kg ( circa 110lb) . My doctor told me it was really a record for the stats. Unfortunately, as soon as i removed my balloon, hunger came back, and maybe more than i ever had. I ended up , today, weighing 151 Kg ( 332 lb). I was thinking to have the gastric sleeve surgery, but in my country where i live, and for having some close persons working in hospitals and clinics, they tell me i should avoid any kind of WLS. Because in time many patients come back due to some failure. Some of them even died. I just know that i can't trust the country where i live for this kind of surgery. Could you people share with me where would you suggest me to go and have the operation? I also heard that some patients looked older than they really are after 2-3 years time post op. Additionally they looked like emotionally neutralized. Not so happy and smiling as before. Does it have to do with the ghrelin hormone? I am a really happy person. I am motivated by my humour even in my most tragic occasions. It would be a shame if my mood changed in a negative way after my operation. Additionally, i read about the gastric plication. I know this is a gastric sleeve forum, but i really wanted your opinion on that. What would you suggest me? Should i go for gastric sleeve? Or plication? I'm really afraid of removing a great part of my stomach and knowing about reducing greatly the ghrelin levels. Are there any other young persons near my age who had any success ? Either with sleeve or plication? If you could private message me doctors and hospitals (in Europe if possible) it would be greatly appreciated. Please enlighten me. My dreams have stopped (for now at least). Help me continue live my life again. Thank you for walking with me until now by reading this message.

Could my first fill be enough?

My doc only flouroscopes if he is having difficulty or there is an emergency for that very reason. I have to agree with him. I've had two and he hit it right on both times. He also only gives fills if you stop losing and are eating to much. If you continue to lose 1 -2 pounds a week on one fill....then that's all you get. It would be a waste of time and money to do one you don't need. If the band is working, why "fix" it? It's not unheard of, but it's rare.
  19. Hi, I'm very new here and have looked but can't figure out where to put this question so please move it if this is the wrong spot. I've decided to get the band done but not until August. we're going away for the month of July and having it done the second week of Aug would give me 3 weeks to recover before i have to head back to work in Sept. my problem is that my AF is very unpredictable because of my weight and i've never had surgery before so what happens if AF comes at the time of my surgery date? does this interfere with getting it done or do we just go ahead? sorry for the TMI and thanks for answering.

I really don't know if i will get my second fill. thought every month according to my book they gave me i should get a fill but my doctor said last month if i feel full then he wouldn't feel me so i don't know what to tell him this month cause i have been out of whack since last month , it like thru me for a loop. but i am suppose to go back to the doctor on the 28 th and don't know if he will do a fillor not i will need to gadge it closer and see what happens in the next 2 weeks and see if i need a fill. ucdep99
  21. The most helpful thing for the rhomboid pain is a tennis ball in a sock... drape it over your back till you find the spot, then work it out up against a wall. I have also been doing 50 upright rows a night with a green theraband. At first, I was getting weekly adjustments at a chiropractor, but now I am down to once every two weeks, as it is becoming clear to both he and I that it is not so much an alignment issue as a muscle issue. I am going to give it another couple weeks, and if it is still bugging me I am going to get a trigger point injection.
  22. I weigh every two weeks. But that's only because I am still 12# over the highest my PCP's scale goes! But even when I am able to weigh on a regular scale I do believe in only weighing once a week. I think you get too discouraged when you weigh every day-and some here even weigh more often than that.

    Calorie Intake

I will be 6 weeks post-op this Tuesday. I saw my Doc on Friday and, while she was pleased with my Protein numbers (75-85g/day), she asked me to up my calories from 700/day to 1000/day. I don't think I'll have an issue eating 1000 calories a day, but the number itself seems a little high for someone only 6 weeks out from surgery. I'm obviously going to follow my doctor's advice, but I also wanted to ask all of you how far out you are from surgery, and how many calories per day you are eating, or what your Doc recommends for you? I am 5'6 and 216 pounds. I have lost 26 pounds since my surgery on 6/9. I'm moderately active, and exercise 3 days/week. I am trying to keep my net carbs (after Fiber intake) under 20g. Thanks in advance!

    5 weeks post op

I'm almost 6 years post op and still remember the first bite of mashed potato when I progressed to "mushies". So feeling some restriction when you've started solids doesn't surprise me at all. It's a learning curve to say the least, chewing correctly. Not sure of your preop and postop "diets", but for me it had been quite a while since I'd had anything to "eat". You may find that whatever solids you are eating now, may cause no sensation in a week or so. Your surgeon may have left some saline in your band during surgery.... its not that uncommon. Just make sure you chew, chew, chew. Best wishes!
  25. I need some help with excercise! I am eight weeks out and down 46 pounds. My clothes are sliding right off- it's great! I am on my feet most of the day and try for 10K steps a day. My problem is my stomach is weak. In the past five years I have had a number of health issues, many requiring surgery ( total abdominal hysterectomy, breast cancer, chemo port surgeries, lab band in/lap band out, large incisional hernia repair, and now "my sleeve.") What have you veterans done to strengthen your stomach muscles? I need to start gently...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
