Incorrect integer value error?
Frustr8 replied to GettinSkinnywithit's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
Will you ever upgrade to the, point you can change and upgradebinfo on a Android or even IOS phone? I am sick of that erroneous date on my profile following me around. First and may we pray, last Bariatric Surgery was September 5 2018 not 2014 or whatever else. In 2014 I was obeses, without hope, sitting in my wide-seated armchair waiting for the Death Angel to come claim me or struggling along at Wally World, trying to convince my supervisors I could work circles around the younger employees. And did they care? Not so you notice! -
Didn't your surgeon give you a list of recommended vitamins for before and after surgery? I take Bariatric Advantage Prep vitamins and I'm pre surgery. I use the Bariatric Advantage chewy calcium citrate in caramel flavor. They're delicious. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

What is happening?!? Dumping or Revolt?
cooper's mum posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all - I am 1 week and 1 day post-op. It's Thanksgiving and as my son and hubby are enjoying dinner with family, I sit here wondering what is going on. Like seriously WTF?!?... I am doing everything right food-wise... only the best proteins and, sugar free puddings with whey powder, bariatric branded soups, and drinks with powder - absolutely no sugars & no fats. But I am having what I feel like must be dumping syndrome after anything with whey protein in it. The only thing my tummy has not rejected is fat free cottage cheese with pepper and a little salt. I was doing great meeting my protein and water goals in my first week, I tried some greek yogurt and whey powder 2 days ago and it didn't sit well. Now, I have been having a tough time getting my meals and water intake back to where it was. Maybe this is all normal and I just need to chill out... my surgeon and dietitian made sure to scare me good about dehydration so I am concerned lol. I will put a call in to the office tomorrow but thought perhaps someone has experienced this and can share some insight. Peace, love and smaller pants, Cooper's Mum -
Marginal/anastomotic ulcer anyone?
Frustr8 replied to eudys3's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Well Sit quietly and loosen it. Pain go away? As days go by, it will lessen. Away , well that I myself am not privy to. Precious Pouch sits in my chest like a little angry clenched fist, between her and her gastric/intestinal ulcer sidekicks, all 5 of them, at 11 weeks still not pain free. And it gets tedious for me, but I have not given up hope, I still believe in healing, no matter how many endoscopic interventions my Dr Noria has to do, I like her,i trust her, she is a wonderful surgeon as well as endoscopist, endoscopy is her "bang zone" something she enjoys the challenge of, but she is a Bariatric and Gastrointestinal Surgeon foremost, if she and my bypass surgeon, Bradley J Needleman MD felt I would be better served by an Open intervention I would be in their OR before I could hum the first 6 bars of Buckeye Battle Cry. And I suspect, they would scrub in together, I have become important to them both, and they both want my mystery solved. Wednesday November 28th will be my 4th at OSU, 6th lifetime, and little by little I move toward resolution of Stricture, Ulcer abatement and a pain-free or pain-deminished recovery Trying to remain placid, confident, accepting, but ,I too, shake my fist and rage at it all! -
Only 50lbs loss in 7.5 months
Jazzy1125 replied to FitLMFT's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
are you tracking your food intake? What about liquids? Also on the food, what is your intake? Carbs? Proteins? Etc. How many calories are you consuming daily and are you eating your protein first. I am still fairly new at this but all I see on the hospital support group I am a part of is the Bariatric Coordinator advises those that are in the same situation is to go back to basics. The carbs should be minimal until you are at 75% of your excess weight lost. Again, I am not a doctor and I am new at this myself, but maybe you need to re-evaluate how many carbs you are eating daily, and how much water you are drinking as well. Good Luck -
Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability
sillykitty replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
What's everyone's Thanksgiving plans? Casa SK is turning out baked goods in the predawn hours, cornbread and cheddar biscuits. Then will go over to my mom's house. I cook, she hosts, since she has the bigger house, but I am the better cook. It will be a very traditional spread, turkey, stuffing, mash, green beans, etc. Nothing at all bariatric about it. Will be hosting the extended family plus a few friends, about 20 peeps total. Making a few compromises this year because of how busy I've been coming up to the holiday. Pies have been purchased, instead of me making them. Kind of kills me, but I didn't have the time or energy to get them done this year. My mom begged me to let her buy Costco premade mashed potatoes. She tells me they taste as good as mine and don't require peeling 20 lbs of potatoes . We'll see ... -
Pro- My Bariatric Hospital does offer them on several different nights Con- Always from 6:30pm on. Con- 50 miles away Con- no longer drive Con- no one to call, swear I am the only OSU Bariatric patient in Knox County. And if you could visualize the people on the street you would know I was by far not the largest, fattest, most out of shape, most needful person HERE. 75 POUND TODDLERS, 150 POUND GRADE SCHOOLERS, YOUTH AND ADULTS 200-300 pounds. Not sure we are living the GOOD LIFE but we are living the HIGH CALORIE one! Makes me either want to cry or start preaching!

To Chew or Not to Chew (vitamins)
insta_adventurer replied to lulu06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got sick of the chewable vitamin taste, too. I did them for the first 3.5 months and then asked my surgeon if there was a capsule option. She said she was fine with me switching and recommended the Bariatric Fusion one a day capsules. I take two every morning. Perhaps that may be an option for you? -
I'm sure this has been discussed before but I need some in sight on vitamin patches. What does everyone else prefer? My surgeon gave us a list of vitamins to take the rest of our lives and they where all chewable. I bought some before surgery and tried them. I had to spit them out. I can not handle the taste. So I just purchased a package of vitamin patches off of the bariatric pal site. Anyone else use patches? Do they work well? I'm just concerned I want get the vitamins I need. I'm post op day 6 and I feel weak as it is. Thanks for any input.

Chest pains, definite red flag🚩, substernal? upper chest? entire chest or one triggering point? I find it very concerning, what does your bariatric team say about it? Gas, hmmn, Uncle Si Robertson on Duck Dynasty, thought he had had gas he couldn't burp free, decided to go hunting to work it off, lucky he had some intervention, he turned out to be right in the middle of an ❤ attack. Luckily,he made it through, but will you without intervention. Depends on a wiser person than me sorting symptoms out, but you know, squeaky wheels get theirselves greased first. Be proactive with you, you are the only you that you have! Don't worry this great-grandma to death, do something for you now!

Well whether you choose Dr Needleman or Dr Noria, you will have a wonderful surgeon. Dr Needleman did my RNY September 5th and Dr Noria does my endoscopies every 2 weeks I developed a stomal stricture and 5 post-surgery ulcers, rare except on Bariatric Pal, we have quite a group here. But I will never regret my surgery, OSU is a wonderful place to go. Everyone treats you kindly, they really want to make life better for you! I was in another bariatric program, nowhere as nice as OSU. You picked a quality place to go, in my opinion THE BEST! if you have any questions please ask. I'll be only too happy to help you any Way I can!😝🚩🏣

I do the same thing. 6-8 small meals a day, low carb, around 600 calories. Still no raw fruits or veggies so the carbs are pretty low. And a cup of liquid between each meal/snack. It's like I'm eating or drinking something every hour. I had also tried the three meals a day thing which is what my program wants but I got hungry (mostly just head hungry) and tended to overeat when I did eat. Splitting it all up really helps me. I go back to work next week and it's going to take a lot of planning and prep but I plan to stick with it this way. I'm following all the requirements of the program except the frequency of meals. I did a lot of research and all programs are so so different! We have to determine what works for us to be successful. I'm not at all saying disregard the requirements of your bariatric team...I'm saying tweak slightly as needed. [emoji8] Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app

Dr Wilhelmy in Mexicali Bariatric Center
MarinaGirl replied to SThomas209's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
This is a 4 year old thread so you may not hear back from the previous posters. I’ve heard great things about Doctors Wilhemy, Esquerra, and Ungson at Mexicali Bariatric Center. People I know that had DS surgery there were very happy with the experience and have had great weight loss & maintenance results. You couldn’t make a better choice as they’re the preeminent DS surgeons in Mexico. Good luck! -

I have VSG performed at a regular hospital , but a center for excellence in surgery. The bariatric team included a nutritionist and dietician as well the Surgeon and his wonderful PA. I had an amazing experience. Counting calories started as soon as I was lucid enough to care (1 month post) but strived for water goal immediately. My diet is tailored to me (it varies depending on what I want to accomplish) because I'm notoriously difficult lol and want the best. Safe Journey!

I had my surgery done at a private hospital that only does Bariatric Surgery. There are several surgeons and nutritionists. The care is intrigrated from start to finish. My plan from my nutritionist is a very simple framework. Eat 3 meals, 2 snacks, 2 hours apart. Eat these foods, don’t eat these foods. Drink X water, Get X protein, don’t exceed X fat per day (not low fat). No calorie counting. I’m not looking to compare but I am truly interested in how everyone is going about their eating plan. What has your nutritionist advised you to do? Is it helping you build lifelong, sustainable habits? ⭐️⭐️PLEASE leave all judgement of others eating plans out of your comments! Just because something works for you doesn’t mean someone else is doing it wrong.

Struggling With Vitamins
Frustr8 replied to johnsons13's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Sounds Good Alex! Ever time I think I'm up to date with what Bariatric Pal Store offers you add SOMETHING NEW. After my first order I thought you were the Best Value around, and doggone if you. don't maintain that Sterling Reputation! December I will be ordering more. Still Strictured, still on liquids, the retail around my town gets more and more limited. Wal-Mart, my local supplier, cut back to only vanilla and Chocolate protein shakes. Why? IDK, but your delivery is quick enough left to THEM, I'll order from YOU! -

Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass ADELAIDE AUSTRALIA anyone here from Australia
MMME replied to New&Improved's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My out of pocket was close to $9000 all up but I accessed my super for about $6000 of it. That figure includes band removal (anaesthetist fee, hospital excess of $500), pre-op Optifast, RnY anaesthetist fee, surgeon fees, prescriptions, pathology and dietician. My post op care is all bulk billed by my surgeon's office. I saw him at week 1 and week 4, but from then on I will be seeing the bariatric GP who works exclusively with the surgeon's patients for aftercare. I should get back another $1000 or so from Medibank, so after rebates from Medicare and Medibank I'll be out about $1000 total. -
I have been using the ProCare BariatricPal vitamins (90 capsules) for about a year now. I take only 1 a day and it covers all of my doctor prescribed nutritional needs. My many blood tests taken for my on year check up were perfect. My calcium citrate supplement is Bariatric Advantage chewy bites 3x/day but needs to be taken 2 hours or more after the ProCare vitamin. The chewy bites are really good!

I just switched to them recently... was having some issues with Vitamin D and Iron and my bariatric surgeon recommended that I switch to these. I haven't had labs done since, but it sure is convenient!

This was me. I made the decision about a year and a half ago, and my husband was not supportive. The exact words were, "Don't you just need to try harder?". I'll never forget that crushing moment. I can tell you exactly what room we were in, where we were sitting, etc. But I did it anyway. I told him, "I'm doing this with or without your support". And I did. I attended appointments and seminars and made insurance phone calls without his support (and even without his knowledge most of the time). This summer I met all requirements and told him that my information was being submitted to insurance and I would likely have surgery this year. What a change. He could see how serious I was and did a 180. He wanted to help plan for the pre-op diet, for surgery day, and post-op care. He asked questions, watched videos, and wanted to attend pre-op appointments with me. The freaking day of surgery he admitted that he didn't want me to do this because HE was scared. He was scared of surgical intervention and the risks associated with it. He never believed it was a bad idea, and never believed I hadn't tried other options (we've been married nearly 13 years- he has seen me try!). He was just scared and wished there was another way, for my sake. But when it came down to it, he didn't want me to go through this alone, and he wants me to be healthy. (He is normal weight, always has been, and doesn't have health problems.) He has since been incredibly supportive. His lack of support greatly affected our marriage. It made me feel alone and concerned me for whether or not we'd end up another post-bariatric surgery divorce statistic. But we're back on track to our healthy marriage. Maybe try to hear him out a bit. Keep going through the process, but keep the line of communication open. Wishing you the best of luck!!

Not full and very hungry
MarinaGirl replied to :::fluffy:::'s topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Your hunger could be dehydration. Make sure you're sipping at least 64 oz of water a day. At this point (1 week post-op), hydration is more important than food or protein. Another thing that could cause you to think you’re hungry is reflux. Are you taking a PPI? Most bariatric surgeons have their patients take PPIs for 3, 6, or 12 months after WLS. It could also just be head hunger instead of real hunger. Did you detox off of simple carbs and caffeine well in advance of surgery? If not, you could be going through detox and craving the unhealthy food you may have eaten prior to WLS. And you may not feel fullness or restriction while the nerves that were cut during surgery are still healing. So don’t eat until you’re “full”; instead, measure your food so you don’t overeat. Good luck - you can do this! Food for thought: Hunger is not an emergency -
