  1. Great NSV. And great storytelling -I want to join your club - and use the men's locker room!
  2. Hello future sleevers; Sounds like you are all preop and have the jitters. You are normal in your feelings but that does not mean you should be backing out or rescheduling unless you have not done your homework or do not trust your surgeon? Do you trust your surgeon? You understand there are some risks, limited risks. Do you know that WLS is for you? If you answer yes, read on. Know why you are doing this VSG surgery. Write down the top 10 reasons you are doing this surgery so that you can look back on hard days ahead. Yes, this journey is not without bumps or a thought of "what have I done." I will start you off and you all are to add another reason. VSG surgery is for me becasue: 1. I was overweight - I had tried so many other diets and could never keep the weight off for long periods of time. Yes, I really tried too. 2. I wanted to be healthy for me and healthy to enjoy my family. My kids hug me so tight and I can play on the floor with kids easily now. 3. I wanted to walk up stairs without huffing and panting 4. I wanted to wear a skirt or dress without shorts underneath so I do not get a rash on my thighs 5. I wanted to be happier when I look in the mirror and not have to listen to the angry voice of "such a pretty face, if you could only lose some weight" 6. I wanted to reduce my risk from future co-morbitities, cancers and other issues of overweight people 7. I knew I can do this, if given a fighting chance. I am willing to change and I can conquer my bad habits to ensure maintanance weight goal. 8. No, this is not cheating - I need this surgery to save me from me. Helped me be a winner I know I am inside. Let me look like I felt deep down, beautiful. Others now see me as I was always, if they had taken the time to know me. First impressions are so much easier now. 9. I want to have better chances at so many things on vacation or dream about doing someday. A helicoptor tour (weight limit of 250), a horse back ride, a roller coaster, a ballon ride, skydive, a bike ride on the beach. Wear a normal bathing suit on a public beach without shorts and a tshirt on all the time. 10. I wanted to not hide in the back of pictures or be the one always taking the picture. Lastly - scroll down and read the NSV (non scale victory) section to inspire you. Good luck my furture sleevers. I have no regrets.
  3. I am loving this.... you looked beautiful before the sleeve, and I agree with the others, you look stunning now... congrats on a brillaint NSV!!
  4. I was asked by the hospital where I had surgery (Summit Medical Center in Van Buren, AR) to do a photoshoot for a marketing campaign to promote the WLS program. I don't have the real pics yet, but someone snapped a cell phone pic fom the side. This was a huge NSV for me. I felt like a model and it was really fun! I recommend everyone doing something like this for yourselves. You could go to Portrait Innovations or even WalMart portrait studios for very little $, but we all have SO much to be proud of! A few other pics.... My FIRST 5k!! Two legs in one! My new size SMALL workout pants! (never thought I would be in a small anything!) The before shot for comparison sake...
  5. When I was first Banded 10/31/06. I was so happy that I spread the word, because I was know 1/2 the size, and loving it. They came out in Groves ! Can't you do it yourself ? Why do you have to have Surgery, don't you have any willpower ? I heard it all. I was sorry that I opened my mouth, because of the peoples ignorance about the band. Mostly these were people that I worked with. and loved the fact that I started to looked so good, (SO THEY SAID) but then would stick the knife in my back. So this time around, I told no one ! It's none of their business how I live, and what I do. People are just amazed at the weight loss, and approve it. So they see me in stores every now and then, and see the difference, at then compared to the last time they seen me. So a lot of NSV's going on by the General Public, and Friends. I am Happy when I see the Cloths size change. That does it for me. I would say don't worry about it, because they really don't know what they are talking about. Your the one that has to tie those shoes (never will forget that..) So you know what must be done. They will get use to it, and you will also find out who your friends are. Shirley.
  6. NSV: I bought and rocked 3-inch heels... a year and 100lbs ago that would've lasted less than 5mins before ankle swelling, knee and back pain and several days of charlie horses and regret and quite possibly a broken heel.lol No more boring flats & Im loving the mall again! That is all! ;)

    Calling all A11s!!

Yeaaaaaah for your NSV! I bet by Monday you will enter Onederland! We had surgery the same day and now you are close on my heels. I was 199.4 when we left town Thurs. morning. I've been walking and eating well and drinking so I hope the numbers have moved come Tues morning when we return. My friend and I went shopping again today and I bought a LARGE, do you hear me not XL, jacket for church. It was exciting. Keep us posted on how the fill goes. Blessings, GG

    Calling all A11s!!

Thanks for the welcome back GG. I did good today, I tracked all of my food on myfitnesspal.com app I have on my phone, and I exercised for an hour. Now, if I can keep up the exercise I think I can get to onederland (crossing my fingers) by next week. I was 200.4 this morning, I am SO close...I am trying not to weigh everyday, but I just want to see the 100s so bad! My second fill is Tuesday, I am getting excited, it will be under fluro again Congrats on your NSV! I had one yesterday, I fit into an old shirt I haven't been able to fit into for more than a year...my husband actually thought I had bought a new shirt

    Calling all A11s!!

So good to hear from you Caryn. We are all happy you are OK and just busy. I have time since I am retired so I hope it was OK for me to try and keep things going. I feel the same way, a little restriction and it usually passes fairly quickly if something gets stuck until yesterday with my first PB. That was not fun but over fast. healthywoman it was like throwing up but no nasty taste and not too much because I didn't eat that much. I found that when I coughed it finally came right up. When you hurt that much you'll do most anything to get it to stop. Sorry to be so graphic but if it has not happened to you yet maybe this will help if it does. Yes, I think you had a NSV with your pants! Congratulations. Blessings, GG
  10. It's not silly at all- that's a great NSV- your shrinking! I haven't had an nsv for a while- went on vacation for 2 weeks and am having trouble getting back on track, both with eating right and excersise. Today, so far so good, so hopefully this is the start. I will hit the gym in the morning.
  11. Ooooh this is one of those frustrating NSV's that I can so totally relate to!!!! My normal size wedding ring was about a 5.5. About 6 months ago I had to stop wearing it, because it was too loose. I went and bought a "fake" ring in a size 5. Do you know how hard it is to find a piece of costume jewlery in size 5? Well now it spins around on my hand and is practically falling off as well. I'm guessing I'm about a size 4.5 now? But I've just been waiting to get closer to goal to have my wedding ring sized. But I miss it and I want to wear it. I say size it again...you DO NOT want to lose your ring again! Aaaargh...frustrating!
  12. My wedding ring stopped fitting very early out ( less than a month out of surgery if I remember). Now to clarify, I've always had small hands- they never seemed chubby to me. My ring was a 6 1/2 size. Now that I'm at goal, and figured I was done, I bit the bullet and had my ring resized to a 4!!! "Holy moly little fingers!!" said the jeweler. I was so happy. I had it sized a bit snug so that if I lost a bit more I'd be okay. Its bloody loose again!!!!! I'm a baker and I don't take my ring off for work ( I used to and lost my ring on the floor of the bakery- never to be found again- it had to be replaced) so a loose ring is a very bad idea. Now I need to decide whether to resize it a again? Or feel naked without my ring again until I'm SURE I'm done loosing ( again). Any ideas??
  13. I was in the tub today and I can now lay my hands along side myself. Before I would have to have them behind my back or laying on my big belly. Seems silly, but it was a great feeling for me today.

Question for those who like their band TIGHT!!

I like my band tight, but keep in mind there is a very fine line between "tight" and "too tight." When I reached my sweet spot it took about 2 weeks of liquids, then mushies, sliders, and so on, before I knew I was at just the right fill level for me. At first I thought I may have been too tight, but after those 2 weeks I didn't need a fill for almost a year. The weight flew off. I do have a long list of foods I can no longer tolerate, but also have a long list of NSVs, smaller size clothes and happy times. For me, "tight" means not being able to tolerate things like bread, Pasta, dense meats ........... For me, "too tight" means reflux at night that is not explained by eating too late or wrong food issues. Vomiting (including what some people call PBing and "spitting up"). Living on liquids only. Living on icecream and such. ......... What foods do I eat? I do eat a variety of foods. It is more of a texture thing with me I guess. The foods that come to mind that I eat often: Chili (green and red) Chunky Soups (not canned) oatmeal yogurt smoothies Lattes :tea: Salads (no iceburg, cucumbers or tomotoes) cheese and reduced fat wheat thins crab scallops there are many more things I eat, but those are what comes to mind

    Calling all A11s!!

Thank you GG for sharing about your first PB. I've been wondering about that and have aimed to never have it happen to me. I've read that when it comes up it's not the same as an actual vomit in that the stomach isn't suddenly squeezing to move the food up. Did that feel different to you than a "normal" vomit and was it painful when it finally came back up? Sorry to be so specific but I think all of us should be aware of the realities in our new banded life. I did find out what it feels like to swallow too large a bite-achy all the way down- and started the "fear" of the foaming and PB. Nothing else happened but the achiness. Yea! Congrats on your NSV- I love that phrase. I'm so happy for you that you had such a positive experience in a clothing store. I was dreading the next trip shopping but have now changed my attitude to see what adventure I can find. I'm currently wearing size 20's that are way too baggy- I was sooo happy to notice that when I pulled them down they didn't stop around my thighs- they just fall to the floor now! I'm celebrating every little victory too, so maybe thats my first NSV! I went to the back of my closet yesterday and don't have the next size down, but it's two sizes- at first I was bummed out cuz they didn't go up past the thigh-then I looked at the size and saw it was a 16 and just laughed!! Thats my next goal- to get those brand new black jeans on -size 16. I kept most of my sizes from the last 2 years so I'm good down to the 12's for now. It's like I have a clothing store in my closet! Kauai-welcome to the group. I was shocked that you've lost 30 pounds since your surgery-congrats girl! It will continue again once you get your fills. You say you can eat whatever you want-stay focused on the good for you protien choices so when you begin losing again it won't be muscle but fat. My surgery was 8-18, and I have lost altogether pre and post 25 lbs with a six week plateau hovering at 20 lost. It was discouraging to be stuck there, but I also marveled at the fact I wasn't gaining either!! Take some extra walks to rev up your metabolism so when you get your next fill, you'll start dropping right away. We are all in this together. It's sunny and about 40 degrees here today so will set a goal to walk the dog twice around the neighborhood. Walk and Water , walk and water, my new mantra for today. Love the rubberband idea for the water bottle-thanks!! Blessings to all, Healthywoman

    Calling all A11s!!

Well I had my first PB today. We are in the mountains of NC for 4 days and had an appointment and we were late getting back to the condo for lunch. We were and only had 15 minutes to eat lunch. I ate some leftover chicken breast and a small bit of rice and some cooked carrots. Chicken has been hard sometimes so I chewed and chewed and chewed. It just would not go down! I've been a little uncomfortable a few times before but nothing like this. So, we had to leave for our appointment and ended up stopped on the side of the road and up it all came. I was better right away but I really don't want to do that again. I wil not ever rush eating for anything ever again. It was a little scary. The moral of my story is slow down when you eat! On a lighter note I had a NSV, (non scale victory) yesterday. My friend and I stopped at the Tanger Outlet on the way up the mountain. We went into Chico's. I had been in there before and could not wear anything they had. They have 3 sizes. 1,2,&3. I pulled out some 3's and they actually fit. I evidently had a tendency to buy loose clothing so my friend made me try them on for her. She pointed out they were too large, so I got 2's! I think I will go back there when they are having another sale and get all my clothes there just to see a size 2 anything in my closet. It was great. Thanks for your kind words healthywoman & ms.lady about my posts. Got me a little teary to think I might be helping any of you. I talk about the forum all the time and my hubby knows about all of you. Welcome back Jess & budapatti. I wondered about Caryn too. Maybe she will come back. It's so good to have some new voices out there. We need to support each other. I hope all of you have a wonderful weekend. Stay on program and it will pay off. Go for a walk and drink your Water. ( I sound like a Mother don't I) We can so this! Blessings, GG
  17. One of the reason I choose to have WLS was to help me gain control of my health issues. I had Type II diabetes, high cholesterol, bad joints in my knees and feet and so on. Well, after my blood work results, I am happy to report: I am no longer diabetic. I no longer have high cholesterol. My joints are feeling better although they still twinge every now and then. I am off my diabetic meds as well as the cholesterol meds. I am reducing the dosage of my synthroid meds. I only have 2 mandatory meds I have to take that are, HRT (female hormones due to a hysterectomy in 2002) and my synthroid. Yay! It is amazing what losing 94 pounds will do for your health. 45 pounds prior to surgery and 49 after surgery. Working on becoming as healthy as I can. Sheila
  18. That is wonderful, what an inspiration. I can not wait to be sleeved!!! That is one of the many NSV's that are high on my priority list that I can not wait to experinece. Congrats!!!
  19. I was updating my blog this morning and realized that my BMI is now under 30 for the first time in probably 25 years. I am no longer obese and just overweight. I still have about 33 more pounds to lose but no longer being statistically obese is a big deal for me. My next goal is being at normal weight and out of the overweight catagory.
  20. I saw my surgeon for a fill yesterday and was down 10kg (22lb) in two months - that was a scale victory and he was very impressed. 46kg (100lb) in six months - so was I! But the NSV was when he said that he is now trying to have all his band patients work with a nutritionist - but I obviously didn't need to because I was doing so well!
  21. You may have provided excellent motivation for others to attend your class!!! I know if I came into the room and saw someone whose pants wouldn't stay up, I would be "dang, I want to do what she's doing!" And yeah, sorry, but I'm laughing my fanny off here, too, just thinking about it. But WITH you, not AT you!!! Congratulations on a great NSV!!!
  22. Okay, I don't know if this is good or bad!!!! During spin class today, in full workout mode, focused on pedal stroke and cadence while standing on the bike, I realized the back of my stretchy pants had dropped below my butt!!!!!! OMG!!!!! I grabbed them and yanked then while trying to spin..... I thought it was a bit breezy in there! :-) Luckily, I was in the back row. But, several folks had left and entered through the door directly behind me!!! The lady next to me, Barbara, saw my horrified look as I struggled to pull my pants up and said: "you're looking great!" and gave me a big smile!!! If I wasn't so happy my butt shrunk so much I would be embarrased to return to class!!! LOL
  23. Went into my Zumba class this morning. I had been gone for a week due to minor toe surgery. One gal who is always there told me I looked fantastic and how did my stomach get so flat! I was thrilled!!! Now granted, my stomach is not flat. After 11 babies, it will never be flat without surgery. But when I started Zumba earlier this year, I looked like I was 6 months pregnant. I was so flattered that this woman would comment to me about my tummy!! I told her it was Zumba. That is pretty much the only exercise I do. 3-5 times a week. I love it! Living the dream!!!, Laura

    2 month surgiversary

I have made a few mistakes on this journey and gained weight but I have learned a lot about my habits. Some carbs do not agree with me at all. Last night I tried some tuna hubby brought in and had an adverse allergic reaction. Thank God I had liquid benadryl on hand. I turned the bottle up! :-) My friend is getting sleeved sometime next month and we have already taken advantage of the sale SW Airlines is having and got tickets for a girl's weekend in January. NSV - people at my job noticed last week that I have been losing weight. LOL Its funny because I didn't lose a pound last week as I pack on fluid for TOM. I realize I am a slow loser. I killed my metabolism with all the diets and starvation attempts to lose weight in the past. I almost tried every med or herbal remedy available. So today, I am 206.8. I am hoping to get to onederland by the end of the month. My Thanksgiving goal will be another 10 lbs. I have leg surgery on the 30th (to remove the titanium rod) and will be laid up for 3 weeks. I will check back in one month from now. Thanks everyone for your support and just listening to me talk/vent at times!!!
